Architect-Designed Suite in a Historic King William House

The Studio is perfect for a single traveler or a couple who are looking for a comfortable, intimate, beautifully-designed space to call home. The bedroom features a mix of original and new wood, while the unique bathroom features plaster and copper piping details. The design is definitely unique among any room you have stayed in before--we had fun with these rooms! The queen-sized bed has nightstands, lights, and outlets on either side of the bed. On the opposite wall, the amenity shelves have all the essentials: wifi, Roku TV, mini-fridge, microwave, coffee-maker, and basic glassware and dishes. In one corner is a full-height wardrobe with room for hanging and drawer storage. The bathroom has a spacious stand-up shower, toilet and single sink with mirror above. The ceiling fan will do a lot to make the space comfortable year-round, especially when combined with open windows on a lovely day. However, on hot summer days and cold winter nights, a new minisplit on the wall opposite the bed will do the heavy lifting to efficiently heat and cool the space. The room features 100-year-old long-leaf pine on the bed wall, all of which is original to this 1907 house. The hardwood floors are also original. New white-washed pine boards line the other walls (and serve as the backdrop for some of our architecture drawings). The east-facing windows get beautiful morning light, which can be softened with translucent white curtains. To bring daylight into the bathroom while maintaining privacy, we installed a frosted sliding glass door. The bathroom itself has a distinct palette of custom plaster, rich floor tile, and custom wood shelves (also made from long-leaf pine harvested from the house). We hand-made the vanity and mirror base with backlight. The plumbing is all new with custom-design exposed copper piping. Don't forget to enjoy the private porch--perfect for relaxing outdoors under the trees, with great street/people-watching views from the right angle. The Studio and its porch are private to you during your stay. Your room is on the ground floor of a larger main house, but it is not accessible from within the main house. The Studio is accessed by a side porch and door, which is off the well-lit driveway that runs alongside the main house. There is another separate back unit at the end of the driveway. You are welcome to share the outdoor non-porch spaces on property, especially the shade of the enormous pecan tree that towers over our backyard. Generally, we have one parking space available for the studio in the back area. However this is not guaranteed depending on the occupancy of the main house. Guests always have access to the driveway to unload and load at the studio and street parking is also readily available. Even at busy times (like First Friday), we generally find parking within a block or two of the house. We are happy to be as interactive as you like. Ryan will handle communication and check to make sure you have everything you need. The house is in the King William neighborhood, right between the main boulevard, the river, and the bustling activity of Alamo Street. Many restaurants, bars, and shops are within a 10-minute walk. The famous Riverwalk begins 15 minutes upriver. Walking is a great option! Once you arrive, you need not get in a car if you are happy using your feet to explore the local areas and downtown amenities. B-cycles (short-term bike rentals) are available nearby for a leisurely river roll or local brewery tour. A well-stocked grocery store is only a short walk or ride away (half mile). A beverage store is even closer... San Antonio's public transportation is also good and reliable. Buses and trolley cars run frequently on Alamo Street, minutes away from the house. Minimalistic studio LESS THAN 1 MILE FROM THE ALAMO! Located in #HistoricDiggyHill, on the near east side of San Antonio, just outside of down town. Take an Uber or scooter into the city for less than $10. This guest suite has a kitchenette with all cooking essentials provided as well as a completely private entrance attached to the back of our forever home.
