Downtown Sunset Kayak with 1.5M Bats!
Welcome to Austin's #1 booked tour! I can say with confidence this is the best group on the water.
March 24th, 2023 Update: The bats were super epic tonight. Cool planets lining up next week!
Let's meet up for an epic night of kayaking. It's 4 incredible trips in one. 1st you paddle the length of downtown during the day, then we catch the sunset over the water. The bats are the main event and we end with downtown paddle at night! Add in a full moon or bright stars occasionally and this trip is one not to miss!
If trip is sold out, ask if I can fit you in.
Book through me because: I'm a traveler and Airbnb host as well so I know what you want out of the trip. On top of bat facts, i'll give you more freedom to kayak, make sure to take great photos of you on the tour, and make sure you meet other like minded travelers in the group who can share their tips or even join you for a night out afterwards. I've got good travel stories for days and lots of local insight to help you build out the best plan for the rest of your stay. Bad weather = full refund. Float the Canyons of the Rio Grande
Imagine floating thru the epic canyons of the Rio Grande on a full day, fully guided, fully equipped trip. The Rio is mostly flat water for a scenic adventure. The river has class I rapids that is perfect for our first timers. Come learn and/or work on your boating skills. The water levels fluctuate and can influence what boats we take: rafts (we can row you down the river or everyone paddles), canoes, or kayaks. Throughout the winter season, the river is usually not more than thigh deep.
Riding in a raft with all your favorite people makes for some fun pictures. We can row you down the river in a raft or if you/some/all want to paddle raft that is a great option too. At lower water levels we like to canoe and kayak. The canoes are 2 seaters with the option to ride smaller kids in the middle. The kayaks are single or tandem sit in or sit on top and are totally lots of fun. Weather also can influence what the choice boat would be.
We meet up in the morning and then drive down to the river. Included is all gear and dry bags. Please bring your own food and beverages. A cooler to put your lunch in and ice water is provided. Wear shoes you don't mind getting wet.
Other things to note
We will meet at 9 a.m. central time (check your clock) at the office of Big Bend Boating & Hiking Company. Pack a camera, snacks, a lunch, water bottle and big smiles for a great day
Ring make-and-take with local artist
We'll get comfortable in our studio barn/workshop area, where you'll grab a glass of wine, a local craft beer, or glass of fresh spring water from our bar before we get started. After a brief tour of our little urban farm, I'll do a quick demonstration to show you the techniques and procedures for making several different styles of rings. Then you'll get busy working hands-on with different tools and materials to create your own custom, unique ring exactly to your liking. I can provide as much support as necessary to help you to feel comfortable with the process and to create your desired outcome. We'll seal/finish your ring if necessary and you'll take it home with you at the end of the session.
Other things to note
We have free-range chickens and a free-range cat. All are friendly. :) If you aren't seeing the date or time you'd like available on the calendar, feel free to send me a message and we'll try to work something out if possible!
Boozy Lazy Tipsy Tubing in Austin Area's Spring Water
Are you a single traveler looking to meet some friends while visiting Austin, or are you planning a fun and unique experience for your bachelor/bachelorette party or large group? Look no further! Join us at Cosmic Coffee and Biergarten (121 Pickle Road) where we will kick off the festivities and then take a short 25-minute drive to San Marcos, home of the crystal clear, spring-fed waters of the San Marcos River. Unlike the murky waters of the Colorado River in Austin, the San Marcos River is a refreshing oasis where you can enjoy a lazy tube ride down the river for 2.5-3.5 hours (depending on your preferred timeline). There will be plenty of time to soak up the sun, enjoy local wildlife, and, of course, have a little party on the water.
BYOB, so bring along your favorite beers and seltzers (NO GLASS CONTAINERS, please!), and leave the rest up to us. We'll have a small cooler for everyone to share. Whether you're planning a bachelor/bachelorette party or team-building event, this is a great activity for all. Private bookings are available, just ask us for details!

Austin Unlocked- A Speakeasy Tour
Go on a walking, cocktail tasting, tour of downtown Austin! We'll stop and talk about several hidden-face speakeasy style bars - some stashed inside parking garages, behind bookshelves, down alley ways, pass-code and password protected, and private clubs! We'll get you into three where we can order drinks!
Meet downtown and we'll sit and chat for a few minutes at introducing ourselves and what it means to call a bar a speakeasy in Austin, TX.
Then, we walk to the first bar. All the bars are located downtown within a few blocks of each other. We'll spend 30-45 minutes in each of three bars, having drinks, learning about the place, and appreciating the aesthetic.
Throughout the night we will continue on past a total of seven hidden-face speakeasy style bars, stopping in some and just stopping to talk about others. The night ends once you get into the third and final bar and get your drinks ordered.
We do not to include drinks to give you a lower price and more choice. We will have a group tab which can be paid for via cash, Apple Pay and Cash App. Prices vary by venue but $15-25 per drink (including a 20% tip) is a good ballpark.
Horseback Tour of Private Working Ranch
On horseback you will be guided by a 4th generation rancher through sections of Chihuahuan Desert in Far West Texas. This tour offers a rare opportunity to visit a 3,200 acre private ranch, operational for over 100 years.
On this 1/2 day long tour, we will meet at the ranch gate where I will lead you to parking and the horse pens. At the pens you will get acquainted with my 3 seasoned quarter horses: Cactus Jake, Seis, and Flash. Once acquainted you will have a basic riding lesson before we head off to the prehistoric Kockernot Mesa trail on horseback.
This trail originally carved out by Native Americans hundreds of years ago and in more recent times by the cavalry during the civil war will be our gateway to learning about the history that has transpired in this area how the land has been used in the past thru present.
We will break for a small, provided snack before we head up the winding hillside path to our destination of several Native American sites. Once near the site locations we will dismount to wander off the beaten path on foot. As you gaze upon these prehistoric sites, you are welcome to collect rocks such as geodes and flint, take photos and look for arrowheads. Once we have taken in all the sites we will remount and head back to the pens for the closing of our trip.
Before we say goodbye, I will be happy to answer questions about the land and its history.
