Island Pearl (3 Blocks to beach)

TimothyRating, 5 stars6 days ago
A clean and convenient 3 bedroom & 1.5 bathroom house, with a friendly and responsive host. Perfect for a middle aged couple with a dog. Quiet neighborhood. Only a few blocks from 25th street beach access entrance. Beach is very dog friendly, including specific times for dogs to be off leash. Beach restaurants are a 30 minute walk (includes a stroll on the beach), including several dog friendly restaurants. Good sized fenced in backyard for a dog to roam, with an exterior rinse off station for humans and dogs. Typical AirBnB kitchen. A short drive to anything you need, with Charleston only 30 minutes away.

This cottage on Seabrook Island is a gem. It was beautifully decorated. The furniture and beds were comfy. We loved cooking in the updated kitchen. Each morning we enjoyed watching wildlife in the backyard, including several deer. This place had everything we needed. We would definitely return!

Boutique Home & Resort Pool ‘Nantucket’

ShelbyRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Wonderful bachelorette trip for 7 of us!! This apartment had a cute porch, 2.5 bathrooms (small), bedding was comfortable and very clean! Cleaners knocked on the door right at 10:01. The listing has multiple houses on the post (check Google maps for an accurate picture). Lyft was CHEAP to kings or you could easily walk! Coffee shop Bad Bunnies and Holey bagels were 10 minute walks (highly recommend). If you have a group of 8, the pull out is small, 7 was perfect amount of people. We did Publix delivery for food or went out to dinner. The door lock was annoying at first because it takes a few tries to figure out when the door locks. We had a wonderful time and felt very safe.

Pet friendly Lowcountry home on a creek with dock

AidanRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
We decided to take a babymoon to Charleston for a long weekend. Kathleen's Airbnb was amazing! The views and sunset's were stunning. Kathleen would proactively check in with us to make sure we had everything we needed in the house and asked if we needed any help. We are already talking about booking again. Thank you for the great weekend!

Trendy Townhome Close to DT and Beach! New Reno!

DennisRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We rented Kathy and Todd’s place for our daughter’s engagement party. Based on hotel prices - this was a steal. Kathy was a great communicator from start to finish. Two king suites was exactly what we needed. Location was close to everything we wanted. Shem Creek was five minutes - awesome restaurants and bars. Downtown Charleston was less than 15 minutes and 20 to the airport. Ubers were easy to grab. It was a quick two night trip - glad we stayed here.

Cottage by the Sea

KyleRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We had the most wonderful stay at this beachfront Airbnb! From the moment we arrived, our host was incredibly accommodating, making sure all our needs were met. The house was exactly what we were looking for – a relaxing, lowkey getaway for our family by the beach. The location was perfect, just a short walk to the sand, and the home itself was well-equipped for a peaceful weekend. It had everything we needed to unwind, from the cozy couch to the backyard for evening hangouts. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quiet beach retreat!

Coastal Farmhouse Comfort

AllysonRating, 5 stars4 weeks ago
We had a great stay at this Airbnb! The location was incredibly convenient for everything we wanted to do, and the setup was perfect for our two dogs — especially the yard, which gave them plenty of space to run and relax. Brandon was wonderful. Super responsive and answered all of our questions in a timely manner. He even went above and beyond by letting us check in a little early since we were already in the area, which we really appreciated. The only downside was a musty scent in the house that was a bit off-putting when we first arrived. It didn’t ruin the experience by any means, but it was noticeable. Overall, a very positive stay with an attentive and accommodating host. We'd definitely consider booking again!

Simply Sunny Fun! 4BR Close to DT Chas & Beaches!

JamesRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
We, four retired guys, were in town for a multi-day event at Patriots Point. Paula’s property is a short drive from there and close to shopping. We enjoyed meals at home, including grilling in the backyard, as we as in the general area, all short drives away. We met Paula on our first day, of six, as she allowed us to check in early while she was finalizing the house for our stay. 5 stars.

Quiet Beach, Dog Paradise, Breathtaking Views, 4bd/3bath

StevenRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Donald is an excellent host! The house is advertised as a "dog's paradise" and it delivered. The fenced in backyard was well received by our dogs and the screened in porch made it easy to keep an eye on them as we enjoyed the amazing view of the expansive salt marsh. The location of the house is great too, at the tip of the island with not much traffic and just steps from an amazing beach. We love Folley Island and would definitely look to stay at Donald's Marsh House again.

The place was perfect for our trip to Charleston. The location couldn’t have been better, everything we wanted to do was walkable. The door latch broke part way through our stay and they fixed it right away while we were out - it was super convenient and quickly handled.

Old Village- Near Alhambra, Beach, & Charleston

NicoleRating, 5 stars1 week ago
This beautiful home was 10 minutes from the memorial site on Morrison Dr where my daughter was killed by drunk drivers on 4/28/24. We were so grateful to find this place so close to where we needed to be on the 1 yr anniversary. It was quiet and peaceful and a perfect home base. It was also a short distance from downtown Charleston, Folly beach and anywhere else we wanted to go. Grant was very accommodating when we asked for a later checkout time and quickly responded to any question we had. We have many more trips to Charleston ahead and we will definitely look to stay here again.

Arctic Palms is 2nd row with OCEAN VIEWS!

BrianaRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
We absolutely loved Maryellen’s home! The pier, restaurants and shopping are walking distance. More amenities than what’s listed. The home is pristine and just like the photos. It felt like we were the first ones to ever stay there! We had gorgeous weather so we spent most of our time outside, but the home is the kind of place where you wish for a rainy day, to be forced to enjoy and relax at home. Would most certainly stay again :)

Coastal Family Getaway, Heated Pool

KristenRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We had a perfect stay at Bo and Mary Mar’s adorable house. The decorations were so tastefully done, which delighted the two art majors among our group! We had our yearly high school girls trip for the five of us. The pool was heated, clean and so very conducive to all the catch up time we could have hoped for. We ventured into Charleston, Shem Creek and Sullivan’s Island as we had to sample the good eats of the area. Hosts were very responsive, house was well appointed, neighborhood was safe for running…basically, this was the complete package. Highly recommend!

Your guide to Charleston

Introduction

Charleston’s present is rooted in its past. In 1931, the city became the first to set an ordinance establishing a historic district. The result is an extremely well-preserved pre-Civil War downtown area, plus about 2,800 historic homes in the region showcasing eight architectural styles seen in the Lowcountry: Colonial, Georgian, Federal, Classical Revival, Gothic Revival, Italianate, Victorian, and Art Deco. The quintessentially charming Southern seaport city is also within easy reach of diverse communities, including South Carolina’s largest island, Johns Island, about 10 miles to the southwest; the fast-growing suburb of Mount Pleasant, 10 miles to the northeast; the barrier island of Sullivan’s Island, 10 miles to the east; Folly Beach, best known for its pier, 11.5 miles to the south; the oceanfront community of Seabrook Island 23.7 miles southwest, and the delightful small town of Summerville, about 25 miles to the northwest.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Charleston

Spring and fall are the most enjoyable times of year to stay in one of Charleston’s vacation rentals, when highs are in the mid-60s to 70s Fahrenheit and lows stay in the 50s and low 60s. March through May are especially popular because of all the blooming plants, especially the magnolia trees. Summers can get stifling, with humid highs in the 80s and lows only dropping into the 70s, plus rainfall is highest from June through September, hitting a peak in August. Winters can be a pleasant time in the city, as highs are in the upper 50s and lows tend not to dip below the mid-40s.

Top things to do in Charleston

Fort Sumter

The first shots of the Civil War rang out at this fort in 1861. It’s accessible only by ferry boat, departing from the Fort Sumter Visitor Education Center in Charleston or Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant.

Historic District

The historic district sits on the peninsula where the Ashley and Cooper rivers meet, and mixes cobblestone streets and lowcountry architecture. Stop at the Charleston City Market, one of the country’s oldest public markets, established in 1804, and also explore King Street, which runs from uptown to the Charleston Harbor, passing through the Design, Fashion, and Antique districts.

The Battery

On the southern end is this picturesque waterfront stretch of historic mansions, as well as Joe Riley Waterfront Park, home of the Pineapple Fountain.
