Cowboy Bunkhouse in North Scottsdale
Escape to this rustic Mexican hacienda and its western-themed bunkhouse on two acres in North Scottsdale near Cave Creek. Unwind in the hacienda's authentic bell tower with sweeping views, cantina seating, and 40" TV, then stroll on over to your private cowboy bunkhouse with outdoor fireplace and fun decor. The bunkhouse is a unique and casual place to stay...sort of like a cowboy museum, only better because you can cook and sleep here. Sleek and sophisticated it ain't, but it's clean, comfy, and lots of fun! No weddings or events per City of Scottsdale. Max 6 adults. 21439932 city lic:2023751 Our 900 square foot, two-bedroom, one bath bunkhouse features a master bedroom with king-size buzzard bed, plus a smaller second bedroom furnished with a bunk bed equipped with a twin bed on top and a comfy full-size futon mattress below. There's also a roomy bathroom with shower (and a small 14 gallon water heater so you can take a really long shower if you want to, but yer gonna be cold as a trout by the end), along with a small galley kitchen with electric range, microwave, blender, crock pot, Keurig coffee maker, full-size refrigerator, and everything you'll need to whip up a panful of tasty vittles. We provide coffee pods, assorted teas, creamer, sugar and sweetener, bottled water, microwave popcorn for movie nights, instant oatmeal packets, paper towels, napkins, foil, plastic wrap, sandwich bags, paper plates, and dish soap (there's no dishwasher, so yer gonna have to wash them dishes by hand). Bathroom amenities include shampoo and conditioner, body wash, bar soap, toilet paper, towels, and a blow dryer. You'll also have decent WiFi, a 40" Smart TV with Netflix and DIRECTV, USB ports for charging electronics, plus a small stack-style washer and dryer with detergent and dryer sheets for doing laundry. And if you're totin' a baby along, we've got a Graco Pack n' Play and highchair. Outside the bunkhouse you'll find assorted seating, your very own fire pit and firewood, plenty of cacti, maybe a snake or two, and loads of free off-street parking, including pull-thru access for RV's or horse trailers. A small charcoal grill (with charcoal and lighter fluid) is available. There are no stairs inside or outside our handicapped accessible bunkhouse, which is located near the property's main house (also our residence). Smoking is allowed outdoors. Due to the wildlife in the area, and in consideration of guests who may have allergies, we regretfully cannot allow pets. Our backyard reception area, located behind the main house, can accommodate 50 guests and is perfect for weddings and other events. When we sold our family's 8,500 acre Colorado cattle ranch and moved to Arizona in 2010, we brought along many of the authentic western furnishings, family photos, and antiques you'll find inside the bunkhouse. In 2016, we purchased Lone Mountain Ranch, a beautiful property in need of many repairs. Restoring the main house (our residence), bunkhouse, and grounds is a huge, but highly satisfying project and ongoing labor of love. We hope you'll enjoy this amazing property as much as we do. Guests are welcome to explore our 2-acre property. The main house (our residence) has two outdoor fireplaces with cozy sitting areas and guests are welcome to light a fire and make themselves at home. A favorite Arizona past time is scorpion hunting, which is best done at night when it's hot outside; you'll find a purple UV light in the bunkhouse pantry which will make those critters glow bright green. Happy hunting! Interaction with our guests is minimal, but we're always happy to make recommendations, give directions, or simply sit and visit a spell. We’re just minutes away from the towns of Cave Creek and Carefree, the Mayo Clinic, and Desert Ridge shopping district. Nearby you'll find a plethora of dining establishments, high-class watering holes and rustic saloons, golf courses, hiking trails, bull riding, ATV rentals, museums, riding stables, movie theater, shopping, and more to explore. It's a short drive to Old Scottsdale, Salt River Fields, Kierland Commons, theTalking Stick Casino, WestWorld, and loads of other fun places. Starbucks, groceries, Uncle Louie's Italian restaurant, and banking are within easy walking distance, but guests will need a car to go much further. However, Uber and Lyft are readily available. The bunkhouse is located about eight miles north of Loop 101 and Scottsdale Rd. and 3 miles south of the towns of Carefree and Cave Creek. Though we're located in North Scottsdale and just a stone's throw from The Boulders and the towns of Cave Creek and Carefree, there are still plenty of desert critters to be found here: scorpions, rattlesnakes, bull snakes, kangaroo rats, tarantulas, lizards, rabbits, javelina (similar to wild pigs), road runners, coyotes, and bobcats. While you may never see any of these creatures during your stay with us, rest assured that some make their home here on our two-acre spread, while others occasionally pass through. Coyotes crisscross our property on a daily basis and bobcats are shy, but frequent visitors who enjoy napping on our back patio. Javelina forage mostly at night; they can be aggressive and should always be avoided. We encourage our guests to enjoy our property and the wildlife here, but for your safety, never attempt to catch, pet or feed any of the creatures you may encounter during your stay with us.

Your guide to Scottsdale

All About Scottsdale

Desert living comes with an air of sophistication in Scottsdale, with more than 200 area golf courses and 50 luxury spas. Located in Arizona’s Sonoran Desert at the bottom of the McDowell Mountains, the city sits in the center of the area’s cultural hubs: a few miles south of Paradise Valley, six miles north of Tempe, about 13 miles northeast of Phoenix, 20 miles southwest of Fountain Hills, less than 20 miles southeast of Glendale, and 30 miles south of the Western town of Cave Creek. With upscale dining in North Scottsdale, shopping centers in Kierland Commons, vibrant nightlife in Old Town, and plenty of natural wonders to explore — whether it’s hiking Camelback Mountain or driving the Apache Trail — every Scottsdale experience comes with a distinctly Southwestern flavor.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Scottsdale

With 330 days of sun a year, it’s always the right time to pack light clothing for a Scottsdale visit. The sizzling desert heat reaches triple digits in the summer, with average highs above 100 degrees Fahrenheit and lows in the high 60s and 70s from June through September. Winter days remain warm with highs in the high 60s to low 70s, but lows can dip down into the high 30s and 40s, so always carry a jacket or extra layers. March, April, and November strike a balance, with highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s — the perfect months for outdoor adventures without the scorching heat or the chilly night air.

Top things to do in Scottsdale

Old Town Scottsdale

Downtown Scottsdale is better known as Old Town, but it's filled with contemporary Fifth Avenue shops, local coffee shops, and boutiques with a dose of Southwestern spirit. Turn back time in the Historic Old Town section around Scottsdale Road and East Main Street, where the buildings date to the turn of the 20th century. Stop by the Little Red School House, built in 1909, now home to Scottsdale Historical Museum.

McDowell Sonoran Preserve

With more than 225 miles of trails on its 30,550 acres, the preserve is a protected desert habitat filled with cacti forest, geological formations, and wildlife.

Taliesin West

Tours are available through the architect’s winter home, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage site and also a working architecture school.

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park

The 30-acre park offers rides on the Paradise and Pacific Railroad, as well as the vintage carved Scottsdale Charros Carousel from the 1950s.
