Ocean-View Retreat in Kona Countryside

SteffenRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We had a wonderful stay at this peaceful and well-maintained home. The ocean view from the balcony was stunning, and the house was tidy and comfortable. Communication with the host was prompt and friendly, making the experience smooth from start to finish. It’s a great base for exploring the island—just keep in mind that having a car is essential. Thank you for a beautiful stay!

Oceanfront Home, Kealakekua Bay - Hale Hoʻolana

NicoleRating, 5 stars1 month ago
First of all, the area was amazing!! Manini beach was literally a 2-3 minute walk down the road for great snorkeling (gear is provided, if you need it) with a path for some amazing sunsets. There are a couple of fruit stands in the neighborhood, which was great for my mother’s daily banana stroll. You can see the bay from the amazing lanai that we spent so much time on to watch the snorkelers, kayakers and dolphins. The house itself was great! Split into half, with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom on either side, separated by an open concept living room and kitchen. The dining room is outside…where else would you want to sit down and eat? There were A/Cs in the bedrooms if you needed them, but the ocean breeze was usually enough for most of my party. There were lots of spices in the cabinets for cooking and some staples leftover from past renters. The long, winding and narrow roads make some great scenery, but also make your trip to anywhere else a bit long. I would definitely stay again.

Enchanted Volcano Forest Escape 3BDRM Rental House

StephenRating, 5 stars3 months ago
Lucky to grab this location for a few days. Accommodations were great for three parties of folks. Especially great one couple could bring their dog. Unfortunately, we missed the volcano eruptions, which started the day we checked out for home. They seemed to have everything you might need and super cozy, including the reclining couch sections were comfortable enough to sleep in!!

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful home atop a hill in Kona. The ocean views and vibrant sunsets were breathtaking. The home was spotless, well-appointed, and offered a peaceful, private setting. Friendly neighbors and excellent bird-watching added to the charm. The host was hospitable and quick to communicate, making the experience seamless. Highly recommend for a serene getaway!

Charming Country Home Pa Hau'oli Home

RobinRating, 5 stars2 months ago
Noelani’s house was the perfect home base for all our Big Island adventures. We loved having the main house space and attached guest house for travelling with our 3 kids for their week long school break. The space was beautiful decorated, Hawaiian themed and had everything we needed to enjoy our time on the Big Island (beach towels, beach chairs, etc). It’s easy to see why Noelani’s house books up fast and glad we were able to call it home for the week! Thanks for sharing your home with us! Aloha until next time!

Beautiful, Relaxing, Eco Friendly Tropical Retreat

LeahRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Definitely one of the better AirBNB's we've stayed at. Location was in a quiet area only about 12 minutes to downtown Hilo. There were lots of little extras that made our stay stand out including the Japanese toilet, good quality towels, and the loofahs provided. Things were well labeled in the apartment and it was very nice to have access to laundry. Apartment was very clean too.

Ualani Retreat. Private Ocean View Cottage.

ArielRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Absolutely beautiful property. It was perfectly away from the hussle and bussle, but close enough to cute little towns, resturants, beaches, Hana HWY, the National Park. It was also nice to have some great amenities and extras for activities while we stayed. Having our own 'home' while on vacation without breaking the bank. We ran into John while he was outside with Grace (their adorable fur baby) and she was the sweetest as he was as well as my boyfriend asked questions and complimented on the property. They were respectful to not barge in on our time or hover. They gave great insturctions/recommendations posted on the fridge for pur stay as well. Would definitely stay here again if when i visit maui in the future.

Quiet Oceanview in Heart of Poipu

SusieRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Our family of four had the most wonderful stay at this beautiful home in Poipu. From the moment we arrived, we felt at ease—the location is unbeatable, just a short drive from the beach, making it effortless to enjoy the stunning Kauai scenery. The house itself was everything we could have hoped for. The pool and spa were a fantastic way to unwind after a day of adventure, and the fully equipped kitchen truly made it feel like home. One of our favorite highlights was picking fresh bananas from the garden and using the Vita Mix blender to make delicious smoothies every day—such a special touch! The bedrooms were equipped with air conditioning units which ensured we slept comfortably every night. It’s clear that every detail in this home was thoughtfully considered to provide an exceptional experience. If you're looking for the perfect island retreat for your family, this is it!

Gorgeous Ocean View Condo at Magic Sands Beach!

StanleyRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Place was a great location. You can see the ocean from the balcony. Parking spot was very convenient which is a big thing in Kona. The building is mostly made of concreate and that makes for a very quiet condo. I don't think we head anyone the entire time. Pool area was nice with plenty of seating. We enjoyed our stay here.

Manolo is a very helpful and proactive host. He made sure that we were okay and had everything we needed. House is pretty, with a beautiful yard. Manolo has snorkeling equipment, flippers, boogie boards, etc. House is close to the restaurants of Paia Bay (10 min walking), which is great because parking is always a problem in Maui.

Your guide to Hawaii

Welcome to Hawaii

What we see as the eight islands of the Hawaiian archipelago are in reality the visible peaks of a sprawling oceanic mountain range that first erupted into existence more than 65 million years ago. Today the resulting tropical landscapes outlined by some of the world’s most breathtaking beaches host millions of visitors seeking warm weather, brightly colored sunsets, crystal-clear waters, and maybe even the occasional whale or sea turtle sighting against the backdrop of paradise.

But what makes Hawaii particularly special is the opportunity to discover your favorite island specific to your interests. Island hopping is easy and reasonably affordable, so whether you prefer the cosmopolitan luxuries of Honolulu, the laid-back vibes of Maui, the rugged landscape of the Big Island, or the breathtaking biodiversity of Kauai, there’s an opportunity to mix and match should you want to wander.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Hawaii

A year-around temperate tropical climate buffered from trade winds means almost any time is a good time to stay in one of the many scenic vacation rentals on the Hawaiian islands. That said, each island hosts a multitude of microclimates and localized weather specific to its unique geography. This means it’s possible to experience all four seasons in one day, especially across the biggest island of Hawai’i, where 11 out of 13 climate zones can deliver both sunburns and frostbite if you’re ill prepared. The windward (north and east) sides of islands tend to be wetter, while coastal regions along the south and west sides can be so dry that cacti can be spotted growing along hillsides. Pack layers in preparation for a surprise rain shower or a chilly welcome at the top of a volcano. And be sure to bring high-strength sunscreen, as it’s easy to burn under a tropic sun.

Top things to do in Hawaii

The Road to Hana (Maui)

Traveling Maui’s 64.4-mile stretch of winding coastal cliff-hugging highway and one-way bridges can admittedly be a white-knuckled experience, but the journey rewards with unforgettable sights along the way: waterfalls emptying into emerald pools, empty stretches of beaches, and black sand beaches where local kids build sandcastles. Most visitors turn back after reaching the sleepy town of Hana, but those who continue to complete the loop will take in a surreal and sometimes barren landscape shaped by volcanic forces still slumbering underneath.

Alakai Swamp Trail (Kauai)

Walking through the world's highest rainforest can be both disorienting and magical. The boardwalk trail is often blanketed by a swirling layer of fog, slowing your pace to a shuffle. But this is all to hikers’ benefit, provoking visitors to stop, listen, and look around more carefully than if the path was easier. Unusual accumulations of moss and fruiting mushrooms can be found all along the way, with rare endemic birds often heard but rarely seen, masked by the dense vegetation. The hike ends at Kilohana Lookout, where on a clear day you’ll look out onto the depths of Wainiha Valley all the way out to Hanalei.

Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park (Hawaii)

For most of us, walking upon an active volcano crater might be the closest we’ll get to visiting another planet. And indeed, the landscape of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park frames an otherworldly geological scar — a hot, steaming, hissing wound stinking of sulfur dioxide gas. For those hesitant to get that up close and personal, the 11-mile route known as the Crater Rim Drive allows you to take in the view safely from your car, or at various lookouts or observation decks from a distance.
