Beachfront vacation rentals in Kehena Black Sand Beach

Our family of 5 had the most relaxing yet entertaining stay in a very clean and inviting home away from home. The location is well worth the get away from town and with a black sand beach, spa, hammock and the sun rising out of the horizon at your beds edge in the master bedroom on the top floor the vibes this place gives off is so special! Kitchen well equipped, big spacious layout open beam ceiling in master with the gorgeous ocean view blew us away! Great responsive hosts that were admirable examples of Aloha! Will definitely recommend and come back to stay. Ps. Bring your fishing gear because if the water is calm your in for awesome cliff shoreline fishing!

This Airbnb is an experience in itself. After 20 hours of travel to get here, we were met by Howard. He was warm, welcoming and congratulated us on getting married. During the course of our stay, Howard checked in to offer AMAZING advice and recommendations on where to go, and made sure we had all the things we needed. He lent us beach chairs to hit the black sand beach down the street (literally walking distance), high quality snorkeling equipment, and even set us up with a cooler/ice for our venture to the other side of the island. Howard was kind enough to invite us to a local community event down the street (ft. fire dancing, food, drinks and live music!) Uncle Robert’s on Wednesday, and a friend’s cocktail party on Friday. The experiences we had were so much more than a tourists typical trip. We felt immersed in the community and everyone was SO KIND and welcoming. This is 1000% worth it, our trip was more amazing than I ever could have imagined!! Thank you Howard! -Elizabeth

Beautiful location at what feels like the end of the world. We slept well and enjoyed both the sounds of nature and the beautiful and unique surroundings. While there are plenty of neighbors in the community, everyone seems to keep to themselves. It was extremely quiet and enjoyable. The firepit in the pictures is not operable, which we found out after booking and really the only downfall for an otherwise great stay. A rental vehicle is required to get there and we were grateful to have rented an SUV. Highly recommended as the roads are rock/gravel with some small hills and quite the drive, but the closest town is about 15 minutes and will have anything else you need. Bring drinking water! The pictures do the cabin justice; it is open air but well maintained, comfortable, and worth the stay. Overall very good experience!

One of the nicest places I’ve ever stayed. Janice was so kind and communicated great with us. The view is even better in person and the house was bigger in person too! Everything pictured is better than you can imagine. We saw turtles from the cliff every day! Hot tub was fun and so were the games. Neighborhood was great for walks and everyone is so friendly. We did not want to leave!

Kapalana Beach Haven is a gem of a home, perfectly situated just a two-minute stroll from the ocean. The proximity to the water offers the soothing sound of crashing waves against volcanic rock, creating a serene setting for morning and evening walks. The outdoor space is fantastic, and we spent many evenings on the deck, enjoying the fresh air and the vibrant chorus of frogs and birds. The house itself is beautifully designed with thoughtful details and a comfortable, lived-in feel that sets it apart from typical rentals. It’s clear that a lot of care has gone into making it a welcoming place to stay, with plenty of amenities that made our visit extra special. Nearby, a five-minute drive brings you to a unique, clothing-optional beach with big waves, and a 30 min drive to the Puna Trail offers a secluded spot to swim with turtles. Overall, it’s a fantastic place to unwind and connect with nature — highly recommended for a memorable stay!

We had an unforgettable experience staying at this beautiful cliffside Airbnb near Kehena Black Sand Beach. The house is perched right on the edge of the cliffs, offering absolutely stunning, unobstructed ocean views. Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of waves crashing against the rocks was surreal. The rooms were clean, well-maintained, and stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We specifically chose this place for the views, and it exceeded all expectations. Amber was a fantastic hostess—super responsive, thoughtful, and made sure everything was perfect throughout our stay. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape with jaw-dropping scenery and the soothing sounds of the ocean, this is the place. Highly recommend it—we’ll definitely be back!

I wish we could've stayed longer! What a wonderful place to relax! Sitting on the patio or in the pool, and listening to the waves on the shoreline, was amazing! Sonja and Alex were so friendly and helpful - it felt like staying with family. They thought of everything to make the accommodations perfect! We will definitely be back!

Yan Ming was very responsive when reached out to. He also checked in on us from time to time just to ensure things were going smoothly. There was an issue with the ceiling fan and immediately took action to correct the issue. I was in town for an event so I couldn’t address some things that came up right away but I believe if I had notified the host about it and given them the opportunity to rectify it, they would have. I did make them aware of it after our stay and it was acknowledged and plans were made for resolution for future guests. Mahalo for the stay Yan Ming!

Great location for sightseeing on this side of the island. Good view of the ocean while sitting on Lanai. Beautiful area with lots of beautiful coastline along the road. Great experience.

Lovey decor, beautiful flowers, great location!

We loved our stay at Marlyn's place! This was our favorite place we stayed so far! Very peaceful surroundings, great views of the tree tops and ocean, very clean, comfortable bed, kitchen had everything you needed, and outdoor shower was great! Peaceful star gazing on the lania at night was rewarding. 10mins from Black Sands beach, roughly 20mins to Pāhoa, and 40 mins to Hilo. Not much else to do in the immediate area but thats what we loved! You're with nature and beautiful surroundings/fruit/that's all you need. We will be back here!

We enjoyed our stay. Beautiful ocean view. We even heard the whales at night! The location was convenient to Hilo and Volcanoes National Park. It was a treat to be here when the volcano started erupting. A bonus! Well apportioned and clean. Thank you!

Beautiful house across the toad from Kehena Beach. The rooms were beautiful and the bathrooms were immaculate. Kitchens were stocked with dishes, glasses and utensils and much more. Loved sitting on the lanai. Beautiful view of the ocean. Walking distance to the drum circle on the lawn. Just a fantastic stay!

Jim’s place was AMAZING! View was spectacular & home was so clean and cozy. Looking forward to the next time I visit Hawaii just to stay here again! Highly recommended. My family can’t stop thinking about our stay here. 10/10!!

A fun place for Hilo side! Just a short distance away are amazing black cliffs to enjoy the sunrise from, and you are greeted with quiet nights and all sorts of stars! Loved the outdoor shower.

First time on the big island and this location will hold a special place. The neighborhood of Pahoa offers a perfect peaceful retreat to enjoy the peace and culture of the big island. With this airbnb being located walking distance to many great overlooks to enjoy a beautiful sunrise. Richard is a great host who was able to answer questions not only about to location but also giving great insight on local attractions as well. Would recommend this listing to anyone who is looking to take a moment and appreciate the beautiful things in life.
