San Juan Bautista Vacation Rentals

Just booked in San Juan Bautista

My place is close to art and culture, restaurants and dining, great views, family-friendly activities, and the beach. You’ll enjoy my place because of the ambiance, the neighborhood, the people, and the outdoor space. Great for couples and business travelers.
the view, open space, easy freeways access.
  • Pat's place is in a highly scenic, rolling hills country area but close to the freeway as well though the freeway noise becomes a white noise. We arrived late and in the rain but it was such a comfort to enter the warm, heated room, with couch, TV and welcoming faces of Pat and Nora. We did find that the restaurants in San Juan, which is some miles away, close early in the winter, no matter what it says on their websites, so it would be best to arrive in plenty of daylight if dining in San Juan Baptiste is in the plans. Pat has a unique house/renovated barn with swimming pool and a lot of privacy for guests. The private bathroom is downstairs right under the bedroom. We would stay there again.

  • The hosts were very pleasant and quick to respond. I don't know why we were not provided the address prior to our visit. The link that was provided by Air B&B gave an address on 5th street in Hollister. That is not the correct address. Guests should know that the pool is not available for guest use. We came back early anticipating a swim and were disappointed to hear that is was not an option. The pictures are misleading. Aside from this, it was a lovely spot and priced well. We found food at the "Beer and Brews" about two miles away to be quite good.

  • Pat was a great host, he was clear on his location and his place had all of the necessities we were looking for on this trip. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area.

    Abraham2017-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • Pat greeted me as I pulled in the drive. He gave me a tour of the property which is a Swiss chalet! The bathroom is huge and I had it to myself as well as a kitchen where I had access to a refrigerator and stove for cooking. The room was plenty large and I loved that it had a couch! The bed was comfortable and full of an assortment of pillow types so anyone would be accommodated. I really enjoyed my stay and both Pat and Nora made me feel so welcome! I will definitely stay here again!

  • Pat and his wife Nora were incredibly kind and accommodating. Pat showed us around, gave us some tips on where to eat, and even left us water, soda, and coffee in the private kitchen that came with the room. Thank you Pat!

    Robert2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Pat's place is super peaceful and serene, and actually quite conveniently located to San Juan Bautista. It's literally just a few minutes by car to go from the Airbnb to the Mission or downtown. The rolling hills offer a lovely view, and it's nice to pull into Pat's gated property. Feels very garden like. The pool inside wasn't heated during our stay, but I imagine it's lovely. We were in town for a wedding and needed a place for 2 of us. This was a welcome respite from the traditional hotel room craziness. Pat's recommendations for places to eat (Vertigo is *awesome* coffee) were spot-on. The bathroom is on the ground floor and the bedroom is upstairs, so keep that in mind in case mobility is an issue. Pat was very welcoming and provided not 1 but 2 irons for us to get ready for the wedding :-) Good host!

If you are a Basque youth backpacking through California--this is the perfect location. Back to the original creation of airb&b , we have a Basque Restaurant, and , at one time, had European backpackers coming thru our centrally located Mission Town.

This is a cozy little unit that serves as my remote office and as a guest house for visiting friends.
We recently renovated this mobile office/living unit so that it matches the rustic feel of the Mission Farm property in San Juan Bautista. It Features a full kitchen, comfortable living area, and a small work desk with computer.
San Juan Bautista is a quaint historic Mission town with more antique shops than you can shake a stick at. It's a quiet and mostly rural community out here, but we are close to Monterey Bay, Santa Cruz, Silicon Valley, the Central Valley and Salinas Valley. There are a variety of restaurants in town and a great secret farmers market that locals only know about.
  • Kurt is very nice, friendly, and accommodating! He was very attentive and made sure our check in process went smoothly and that we found the place easily. The major downside of the cottage is that it gets VERY hot and there is no AC. Our stay at the cottage was in the middle of June. Kurt is very generous to provide a few fans which worked somewhat well during the evening; however, during the day the cottage was overwhelmingly hot. The campground the cottage is located is very cute, quiet, and filled with friendly people

  • An amazing stay! My wife and I had a great time exploring the property and making the most out of our stay. The pool is absolutely gorgeous, I almost wish we had checked in earlier so that we could enjoy it during the day! The animals on the property are the cutest things ever. We spent so much time with the goats and their outdoor cat Jane who showed us around. The dogs are SOOOO cute too. We checked out feeling so happy! The room was awesome with the spacious bed, and we were so glad that they had Direct TV so we could tune in to Game of Thrones on our Sunday night haha. Loryn and Rich were extremely accommodating to our schedules and did their best to make sure we were comfortable! Breakfast was amazing... like really I'm just so in love with their house and wouldn't hesitate to stay again if I was passing through.

    Cynthia2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed the home and and the area. Loryn and Rich shared information about the area and sites to see. We are farmers so enjoyed the various animals and the stories about them. The breakfast every morning was delicious and the things were clean.

    Dorothy2017-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic home, beautiful property, and felt very comfortable. We'd love to stay again, and we may stop by just to visit the cows even if we don't stay overnight!

    Matt2016-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • With one of the most comfortable beds we've encountered in any airbnb home, a hot tub under the stars, an array of animals, and a beautiful, warm, inside pool, Loryn and Rich's place makes for a lovely getaway. Add to that a delicious breakfast prepared by Loryn and the congenial and welcoming hosts themselves, and you've got a great location from which you can explore the historic town of San Juan de Bautista or take day trips to the coast and elsewhere.

    Amanda2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Thr house a very nice secluded feel to it. It's the perfect place to relax and recharge. The land is absolutely beautiful and the animals are so sweet. Loryn was wonderful and spoiled us with a beautiful breakfast. The hot tub is amazing also!

    hannah2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Loryn and Rich's! They were the nicest people who were very easy to talk with. The property is wonderful and the pool is second-to-none. They really made us feel at home. I would recommend them to anyone and hope my girlfriend and I can make it back sometime!

    Cade2015-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I greatly enjoyed our stay with Loryn and Rich. What gracious hosts they were, keeping us informed before we even arrived via prompt email, giving us a warm and welcoming tour of the amazing country house and grounds complete with a host of very dear animal friends. What a great getaway between Gilroy and Paso Robles if you ever need one.

    mary2014-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • Loryn and Rich go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcome. They provide a great breakfast and the house (although remote) is very interested and beautiful. Loved the private setting, the farm animals and the quiet! Enjoyed our stay!

I provide bedding for the beds, if you bring 8 more guests you will need sleeping bags... but there are extra pillows. There is no A/C... the heater, when switched off blows nice cool air from under the house. There are stairs on all sides of house, outside. Spacious floor plan, large kitchen with everything you need to cook or BBQ on the 400 sq ft deck...relax, enjoy the view, watch TV (3 plus DVD and Netflix and Karaoke)... sleep in peace and quiet there are blackout curtains in the bedrooms)...take walks in the country on our 25 acres… take an 8 min drive into the quaint historic town of San Juan Bautista for authentic Mexican and Basque cuisine, or eat a variety of delicious hamburgers and fries at JJs… walk around and shop for antiques and take a trip through the old west in San Juan's mission district that includes the Mission de San Juan, Plaza Hall and many historic exhibits (see photos) BUT...should you seek even more family fun… you are 25 min from Premium Outlet Shopping in Gilroy, movies, Chuck-E-Cheese's and Gilroy Gardens… 60 min in all directions gets you to Pinnacle's National Monument, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Pebble Beach Golf Course, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Pajaro Dunes, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Natural Bridges, Marriott's Great America, San Jose - Silicon Valley and 90 min north is San Francisco! Catch a plane from Monterey to L.A. and San Diego. Make a home base at my place and take day trips… much better than packing and unpacking!
The "neighborhood" is a country road with houses. Very quiet and private. Neighbors have complained of speeding... please drive slowly on School Rd. And very slowly up our driveway.... never know when someone else or deer/wildlife is using the driveway also. ☺
  • This lovely house was remarkable in that it was spacious, bright, and had incredible views of hills and valleys from almost every room. Rooms were well organized and sparkling clean. The view was breathtaking and memorable for us. Deer were observed munching grasses under nearby trees. Country sounds were enjoyed by all. Our family sleeping requirements were perfectly met. It was obvious that music, art and family are appreciated by the owners of this home. It is definitely best to arrive before dark in order to make your way up the long private drive way and enjoy the beauty of the rustic route to the house and the countryside in general.

    Paul2015-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • The house was very spacious and clean upon arrival. Very big and provided much more room that what we really needed for 2 couples and 1 baby, but definitely not a complaint. For the price, it was well worth it. Huge deck outside is great for relaxing and taking in the beautiful hillside. Lots of animals present including turkey, deer, and quail. Unfortunately, the morning following our arrival, we found approximately 3 turkeys pecking at our car (black car)...looks like the scratches will buff out though. After we chased them off once, we didn't experience any further encounters. Seems like the AC was having a bit of a hard time cooling the house down? Could've been user error... Not really a big deal as the house has lots of windows, so we opened most of them and there was good flow. House really cooled down after dusk too.

  • Great place, great size for fellowship. We had a great time staying at this country home. Lara is great and very accommodating. She answered all our inquiries and really prepared us for our trip. She gave us specific instructions on how to use and to enjoy the home. Because of its location, we were able to go to several places including Gilroy outlet, Monterey bay, Carmel by the sea and Pebble beach.

    Ray2016-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • The house was large enough to fit the 8 of us with 4 kids and 4 grownups. We were able to eat outside one evening and enjoy the great view and moonrise. The second night was a little too chilly and windy but the leaving room had plenty of space too to accommodate all of us.

    Luc2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lara was very easy to deal with. Her house has amazing views and was very convenient for us to go to the garlic festival and the coast. He house was clean and spacious.

Enjoy the privacy of this secluded get-away nestled in the Canyon of San Juan. Visit the quaint mission town of San Juan Bautista and stroll into the past through the many galleries and boutiques. This cottage comes with a private bedroom, a pull out sofa in the living room and a complete kitchen to hold your favorite treats.
Feel free to bring your bicycles, hiking gear, and swim suits. Monterey beaches are nearby, Santa Cruz Boardwalk as well as Fremont Peak and the Pinnacles. You will not find internet, however, you will find Direct TV with the NFL package in both the living room and bedroom with DVD players. There is a "Redbox" and a market conveniently located at the bottom of the mountain for those last minute needs to make your stay complete. Enjoy a welcome basket of fruit and coffee/tea for your stay.
Have fun being a tourist! Make each day special. Go to Monterey (shop, 17 Mile Drive, Monterey Aquarium), Santa Cruz (Boardwalk, Mystery Spot, tide pools) and even San Francisco (walk the Golden Gate Bridge, drive down Lombard Street, go to the opera). There is so much to do and see! We are centrally located off of highway 101 and 156.
  • What attracted us to this listing was the fact that there's no wifi and no cell reception—a real getaway! (No worries, you can drive 2 minutes and be back in contact with the world!) There is a path up the hill behind the house to a very quiet and tranquil clearing. No traffic sounds, just hawks and songbirds. Up the road is Fremont Peak State Park that also has great birding and amazing views. Maria + Lou are so welcoming and helpful. Our 2 night stay was nice and we drove the short distance back to the Bay Area recharged.

    Helen2017-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Maria and Louis were great hosta; very warm and welcoming. Their cottage was a great place; home away from home. We had a great time.

  • We were heading to see our children for 2 weeks. This was the first time we used airbnb. Maria and Lou could not have been nicer hosts. They were very accommodating and made our stay very comfortable. The cottage was plenty big enough for a stay that long and the location was very pretty and very peaceful.

    Barbara2015-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Maria and her husband were fantastic. Welcomed us with open arms. House was clean and (URL HIDDEN) was terrific

    Alexis 2015-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Maria was an amazing host! She immediately welcomed us as if we were family. Can not thank her enough for being so accommodating and generous. The casita's pictures do not give it justice. It was perfect for my love and I. We will definitely stay here again if we are in the area. Thank You again Maria!

    Kevin2016-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Maria & Louis was fantastic! They greeted us with a warm welcome and were helpful throughout our stay. Whether it was a flashlight to watch the stars or a pan to cook dinner, they were eager to help . They also stocked the house with bagels, fruit, coffee and even left us special Valentine's Day sweets! The photos accurately represent the space and it was perfect for us. Would love to stay here again!

    Jonathan2016-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • This little cottage was perfect for a short work trip, and it was very quiet. It had everything we needed and Maria was very welcoming! Make sure to check out the beautiful Madrone growing just up the slope from the cottage. It's one of the biggest I've ever seen! I would definitely come back for work or for fun!

    Sheryl2016-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Maria is one of the nicest airbnb hosts and she goes out of her way to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. The cottage is just as it looks in the pics and has everything you need for a remote get away. Bed is really comfortable and the location is super quiet. We had a good time during the day hiking in the local National Park. It's a real break from the city life, and without cell or internet you can really disconnect. One thing to note, the water in the area has a strong sulfur smell, so we ended up bringing bottled water for cooking and drinking.

  • Jacqueline is a warm and welcoming hostess. We drank wine on the deck at sunset and I felt very comfortable in her kitchen so I made appetizers, which we shared and had a nice time. This place is more au natural than my house but that is why we travel; to experience new things and different ways.

  • My husband and I had a wonderful stay with Jim! The cozy camper is located on Jim's lush property, which he shares with 3 horses and two cute pups. We were supplied with a space heater, access to a kitchen and bathroom, clean linens, a lantern, and fresh coffee and biscuits in the morning. As a seasoned local, Jim gave us the excellent suggestion to check out the breakfast with the Aromas Grange on Sunday morning, and we had a lovely time there dining on locally made fare. Thanks for the wonderful time!

Home is close to Beach (20min), Santa Cruz (30min), Monterey (30min), San Juan Bautista (10min). Quiet country home close to all of Monterey Bay. Good for couples and families.
The home has a wonderful view of the country from the rear deck. And if you just want to relax and watch a movie there is a small collection of DVDs to choose from, as well as full lineup of channels on Directv.
The street that this home is located on is great for walks any time of day.
  • We had a lovely four-day stay at the Aroma house. There was a good area outside where the kids played. The three bedrooms were spacious and all the amenities needed to make us feel welcome. The kids loved the toys and games that were available (some hidden in the closet which made quite the surprise when found).

  • Great spacious place with an excellent host. Quick drive to Monterey and a super market 10 min away. If you are looking for a fun spot to escape the madness of the city life you cannot beat the value or location. We had six in our party and everyone slept great! If you plan to bbq, make sure to bring charcoal. Will stay here again! Thanks Jeff!

  • Our recent stay at Casa Roja was really great. Jeff was an awesome host ready for immediate assistance but otherwise invisible exactly how hosts should be. • Anna and her fiance were very welcoming during our stay and their home had beautiful country views. However, we found that the accommodations could have been a little cleaner. It was unclear whether the unit had been cleaned prior to our check in and we ultimately bought a new shower curtain because the one provided was ripped and moldy. The mattress and pillows provided were also yellowed and stained.

I like the great outside view (in early morning) in both room and deck. Jack made a great breakfast with muffins and egg scramble that was awesome. We enjoyed in their place and to chat with Jack.

  • Staying with Jack and Stacy was great! After passing the test of their lovely dog Lena, we were given a thorough tour of our accommodations. The home looks exactly like the pictures and is very spacious. We were given lots of help on fun things to do in the area and an open invitation to ask questions as they came to us. The breakfast in the morning was the cherry on top to this amazing experience. The homemade jams and delicious teas were so good! Jack is a wealth of knowledge and was a joy to talk to every morning. We really appreciated them letting us stay in their beautiful home and would definitely do it again next time we are in the area.

  • Jack and Stacey were excellent hosts - this was our best airbnb experience yet. They are kind, warm, and very welcoming. We felt like we were visiting family! The home cooked breakfast (with homemade jam and biscuits!) was just icing on top of the cake. We would definitely recommend Jack and Stacey and plan to stay with them again if we return to the area.

  • Very quiet, ideally located to visit the Pinnacles National Park either to the west end off of Hwy 101 or more popular east side, San Juan Bautista or spots in Watsonville. The town where their home is located is a bit remote so if you are arriving late be sure to allow for time to eat in Watsonville. Accommodations are clean, spacious and the breakfast that is included is more that just coffee and a muffin, it is a gourmet meal!

  • Jack and Stacy were the warmest, the kindest, and the most hospitable hosts we ever had on AirBnB. They welcomed us to their home with tea from herbs grown right in their backyard. We had a great evening chat with the couple. And in the morning they made us a hearty breakfast from eggs from their farm and break freshly baked at home. They also gave us a great tour of their garden and let us sample their fruits and vegetables. My gf and I had an amazing experience and frankly that's the sort of personal touch are what make AirBnB so attractive alternative to commercial hotels. I highly recommend Jack and Stacy to anyone looking for a great farm type experience in a rather beautifully furnished and comfortable home not far from SF.

  • We booked the home for a weekend getaway from the Bay Area, planning to visit Pinnacles on Sunday. We never got to Pinnacles, and we didn't want to because we decided to spend more time at home with Jack and Stacey. It was a blissful retreat. The evening before started out with great conversations, exchanging stories and learning more about the town of Aromas, before a wonderful strawberry/rhubarb pie-baking session with Stacey. As young adults, it was nice to learn from someone so experienced, or as Stacey said "handing over of art from one generation to another". She walked us through the recipe step-by-step with a genuine curiosity on different techniques that were used in other parts of the world. The pie was delightful, and true story - I thought about sneaking up at night to have more. Next morning, Jack whipped up eggs and elk sausages with the best home-made biscuits we've ever had. The home, modeled like a modern mini-ranch, is set back in a hilly country setting, something you'd imagine in a Lord of the Rings novel. We saw a hummingbird, played with their dog, got some organic vegetables from Jack's garden, and enjoyed the warmth of their fireplace. The bedroom was cozy, the bathroom was spacious, and the living room was great for doing some work. All in, we had a fantastic weekend and we couldn't have asked for a better break than to spend time with Jack and Stacey. We look forward to returning. Thank you!

  • It was a pleasure meeting both of you. Your warm welcome & hospitality made us feel like family. Beautiful scenery, accommodations & respecting our privacy was awesome! Thank you for the great breakfast, coffee & preserves. We hope to visit again soon!

  • Jack and Stacey are the gold standard of hospitality. They were kind, generous, and accommodating. If you're looking to retreat and enjoy peace and quite with beautiful scenery, this is the home for you. It's an ideal place to escape to especially after a day of travel or touring. This lovely couple goes the extra mile to make sure their guests are comfortable. In addition to providing a clean and cozy boarding space, Jack and Stacy also make breakfast suitable for their guests. I have a plant-based diet... not only did they accommodate that but they food was scrumptious and filing. Furthermore, they invest time in getting to know their guest. I'll definitely stay there again in ever in the area.

  • Christiona and Ewan were fantastic hosts who made us feel very welcome - they offered us tea, coffee and even some free breakfast (which we unfortunately couldn't take as we were in a rush). They also gave of great advice on where to go and visit (I would recommend Carmel, Pebble beach and Monterey). The house itself was very nice, with two spacious rooms that were kept very clean. Overall, a great place to stay in a good location!

  • Clark went above and beyond to make sure that my husband and I had a pleasant stay. He was very communicative and provided great local recommendations. His home provided a peaceful place to rest after a day exploring the Big Sur area and driving the 17-Mile Drive in Monterey. We would definitely stay again.

    Stefanie2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay in Clark's guest suite! Although we were only there for one night, his hospitality and suggestions were truly exceptional. The suite itself was gorgeous, and the fire pit right outside was the perfect place to relax and make some s'mores after a fun day in Big Sur. His great movie collection was also a plus. I will definitely recommend it to other friends and family traveling through the area! It was a very easy drive down to Monterey, Carmel, and the coastal highway. This was my first airbnb experience, and it surpassed all expectations!

    Alexis2015-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a beautiful and comfortable place to stay, stop looking and book with Clark- pronto. His property is beyond gorgeous: lots of trees, night sky visibility, and a really cool fire pit. The room itself has a private entrance, very cool bathroom, super comfortable bed, and tv stocked with great movies. There is also a great selection of teas and K-cups, and breakfast muffins! Our original booking in Monterey was cancelled 24 hours before our arrival, and we were in panic mode. But thanks to Clark's very prompt response time, we were able to relax and know we had a place to stay. He gave us a great recommendation for our anniversary dinner and was very considerate and accommodating. From helping us with our bags to starting a fire for us to being so responsive, Clark is a dream host. The next time we come to Monterey, we will be planning our vacation around his availability! Amazing suite, location, and host. Out of 10, we would give him (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) x infinity.

    Alexander2015-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • He warned me, and now I'll warn you: you will wish you had gotten there sooner. The view and surrounding hills are ethereally romantic. Clark was humorous and accommodating. 10/10, would do again.

    Alexandra2016-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful place, tucked away at the top of a hill underneath the trees. We loved the private, quiet peace of the place. Clark met us at the car and walked us around to our room through the "secret garden". We had an event to go to in the evening and when we came back Clark had made a fire in the fire pit. So peaceful under the stars, out in the country. The suite is beautiful and elegant, well supplied with anything you need. We will be back!

    James2016-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Clark is an amazing host! He was very flexible with our arrival time. Right away, he even helped us with our bags. At night when we came back from dinner, he set up the fire pit for us to make s'mores. The view of the stars was beautiful. The room was fantastic. It had everything we needed including shampoo, conditioner, coffee and even muffins! Thanks Clark! We had such a great time! You're an awesome host!

    Ian2016-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • I had the absolute best experience staying with Clark. From the time I booked he was incredible, constantly going the extra mile. He first reached out and offered a negotiated rate for multiple nights, which I appreciated, and provided recommendations for his area. His guest suite was incredibly clean, private, nice (comfy bed), cutely decorated and exactly what we needed. His house is also in a gated community so I felt really safe, and it's beautiful. The fire pit was awesome and Clark really made it feel like a hotel, cueing up the fire ms taking our bags etc. Aside from that, Clark was just an all around nice guy and treated us as if he's known us for years. It was such a pleasure to stay with Clark, and I'd strongly encourage anyone traveling in the area to do so. You can't find a better Air BnB host.

    Danielle2015-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Clark was a great host! He communicated well and was very accessible. The private room was great, very clean, and comfortable. My favorite part was the cozy firepit outside! Definitely would recommend this airbnb.

  • Michelle and Corwyn were great hosts at their beautiful home! My son and I took a hot tub after a busy day on the coast and then all of us including my wife hung out for a few hours having great conversation and a few glasses of wine. They have a private room for guests with a huge 60+" TV, plus 2 more TV's, plus pool table, plus a bar and treadmill. If we had more time I would have holed myself up in there all day. Next time!

Your stay includes a lovely Coastal Sea Life bedroom with mountain views and private bath. Hot Tub is located on a secluded part of the patio. Guests enjoy a complete Continental breakfast including my own Coconut Blueberry Protein shake. Under the stars or on a foggy night, the hot tub will soothe and relax you. Enjoy the lounge chairs on the patio. My home is a gateway to both the Monterey Peninsula and Santa Cruz areas. A warm welcome to Strawberry Hill!
I love my country home on 5 acres with Oak, Redwood and Australian Silver Dollar Eucalyptus trees and interesting varied landscaping around the home. Relax on the patio overlooking the view. If you play piano or guitar feel free to play or you can relax in the hot tub in a completely private setting. This is a private hideaway vacation spot. Your coastal sea life room awaits....
I live near Elkhorn Slough Wildlife Preserve where you can walk on trails along the bird preserve areas. The Pacific Ocean meanders through the natural formations and the water is brackish. The wildlife is protected; no hunting or fishing is permitted. By car it's about 8 minutes from my home. Local free newspapers will detail restaurants, hot spots, parks and scheduled events while you're here. It truly is an embarrassment of riches here. My home is less than 30 minutes to Monterey, Carmel by the Sea, Pacific Grove, Carmel Valley or 30 minutes north to Santa Cruz, Aptos, Capitola, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, UCSC. People who live around here are on acreage with fences and gates and we all place a high value on privacy. It's very important that you call me at least 1/2 hour before your arrival so that I can give you detailed instructions how to get here since some GPS's do not work right around here. If you need to call me my cell phone is always on when I'm hosting and will answer your call. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
  • Not only was her place amazing with wonderful views of the Santa Cruz mountains, but Barbara was a pleasure to talk to. When we weren't enjoying the surrounding area, she kept us entertained with stories of her travels. We arrived to a bottle of local wine and chocolates... And breakfast was an endless healthy feast!

    Andrew2016-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara is by far one of the nicest, most considerate hosts I've ever stayed with, just based on her welcoming spirit you should stay here! The place was very clean with a beach decor and nicely well managed. There was a view you would let believe, a hot tub and a very very comfortable bed that'll give you seconds thoughts about getting out of in the morning. Barbara served had a bottle of wine waiting for and even cooked us breakfast! If you're looking for a spot in between Santa Cruz and Monterrey to get away from it all, this is it.

  • We had a fabulous time at Barbara's "Old Town" during our weekend get away - Her place was nice and very well kept... Barbara is a sweet host and took good care of us while we were at her place. Beautiful neighborhood and great view from the room, felt very welcoming.... Will definitely return!

  • This place is soul-nourishing, and I can't imagine a photograph capturing its essence, though David and I could not help but take dozens of pictures. It is definitely a nature-lover's paradise, but offers plenty of luxurious pampering and romantic settings as well. We were greeted immediately with wine, an open kitchen, suggestions for nearby activities and restaurants, and a breathtaking view of the mountains. We had big plans to dine in Monterrey or Santa Cruz, but feeling like we'd come home, we fixed ourselves and early dinner to eat on the hilltop deck, wind chimes and birds lovingly providing us with soundtrack. This was topped with a very private moonlit soak in the hot tub. We ended the night by drifting into the luxurious bed that Barbara so thoughtfully provided. This place is the PERFECT place to explore Elkhorn Slough. It's a 10 minute drive to walk along the shores of the slough to see an uncommon array of birds or enjoy the reflection of the sunset on the wetlands. Stunning location. We drove 20 minutes to Moss Landing and rented kayaks to view otters, sea lions, seals, and birds we've not yet identified. And Barbara. The best host I've met. Hands down. She is as helpful or as unobtrusive as one wants her to be. She aimed to please in every way, and welcomed any desire we had for privacy or sharing stories. A gem of a person too! We loved hearing the history of this beautiful place, the people who created it, and her experiences as a soprano singer. This is not your typical rent-a-room-in-a-house experience. This home has two wings, and Barbara is on one side and her guests the other. Thus, if privacy is what you want, just say the word. I loved how excited she is about Airbnb. Unlike some hosts that are more jaded, she is thrilled at the prospect of meeting people and providing spaces/experiences for others to enjoy. While I wish her great success and am happy to share the magic of this place, I hope that there will still be availability for us to return whenever we need rejuvenate.

  • Barbara's place is a peaceful and cozy spot perfect in order to explore all the area around from Santa Cruz to the Big Sur! Barbara and her cute Roxy cat are perfect hosts! Thank you for the relaxing chats and suggestions!

  • A nice spot with beautiful views and friendly hostess! It is secluded so keep that in mind, but that is not a drawback! The host was very helpful in suggesting places to visit etc. and great dinner place. Note, there was a cat with run off the house.

  • Barbara's house is a magical getaway. I stayed for one night with my boyfriend and had a wonderful time. Barbara gave us some chilled wine upon arrival (so so kind) and made sure we were comfortable. She also has a very sweet kitty named Roxy that was very affectionate during our visit. She has a hot tub which is fantastic, and I wish we had had the time during our quick trip to use it! Next time, because we'll definitely be back. A very caring host; very traditional Bed and Breakfast style. A rare find.

    Gabriela2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara is a wonderful host, the breakfast she prepared was a real treat. She had some great advice on places to visit, with some good 'local knowledge' on how to get the best from the visits we made. Cell phone coverage was good, so no worries in getting in touch when you contact Barbara for final stage directions.

Remarkable Reader’s Retreat in a quiet country location, halfway between Santa Cruz and Monterey. Sited in a large country garden with herbs, historic fruit and citrus trees. A farmhouse kitchen with cooking fireplace and antique oak floors. The library is a lovely retreat, with leaded glass windows, Turkish carpets, and treasures from a lifetime of travel. Located along a beautiful country road with great walking and biking. A quiet oasis retreat, guarded by red-tail hawks and hummingbirds.
This is a unique and magical retreat in a lovely valley amid rolling hills and agricultural fields. It was designed for maximum privacy and quiet at the edge of the property--so no one will drop in on you--but I and my family are available to give help and advice about the many nearby attractions, from the Monterey Bay Aquarium to antiques shopping at Moss Landing, to buying fresh fish and how to cook it in the fireplace. We also have a great barbecue grill in the back yard. We usually live with all the doors flung open to the garden. There is such a lovely quiet here that just spending a day in the sunny kitchen and in and out of the garden is a vacation.
While we are in a rural location on a quiet country road amid rolling hills, large oak trees and agricultural fields, we are not remote. It is a 20-minute drive to the local beaches, to get fresh pie at Gizdich farms, or 30 minutes to either Monterey or Santa Cruz. We are an hour and a half south of San Francisco Airport and an hour south of Silicon Valley. This is great place to stay if you are on coming down from San Francisco, and on your way to Monterey or points south.
  • Some quirks and a little fussy to care for so maybe don't come with kids but very beautiful and peaceful. Very clean, comfortable and well stocked. Nice fireplace :) Definitely recommended.

  • Nice and cozy cottage. Very rustic. Close to Santa Cruz and Moss Landing.

  • Lori's cottage is an enchanting place. It is not often that you enter a place and feel that it is full of spirit. We had a most wonderful time staying at this very unique cottage. We just wished we could have stayed there for ever.

  • The Remarkable Reader's Place is a magical place to stay! Lori was a great hostess. The house is very comfortable with an amazing garden. Highly recommend.

  • I almost don't want to let anyone else know about this wonderful secret location near to Monterey. It is so magical that I want to keep it for myself! The Library cottage feels remote, yet is within easy driving distance of anything you might want to visit in the Monterey area, including some lovely walks. We arrived to the the music of frogs singing in the night and woke to the sight of lemon trees outside our windows with the backdrop of hills and woods beyond. The house itself is cozy and welcoming, full of some of the most interesting books you are ever likely to find in one place, and so comfortable and quiet that you will want to nestle down and stay a month. Lori even put up a fully decorated Christmas tree for us as we were staying over the two nights of Christmas. Lori was on hand for anything we might have needed and was even waiting with her flashlight in the lane when we arrived. Thank you Lori for making this one of the most memorable family Christmases we have had!

    Rebecca2016-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lori was a fantastic host! Her home is beyond gorgeous, quiet, and close to the amazing cities around. Definitely recommend spending time in her garden sippin' on your morning coffee!

    Jessica 2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lori is a wonderful hostess. Her mom Brenda lives next door, and is so gracious to let you tour her beautiful garden and she gives you a little history lesson. This cottage is not just a home, it's a piece of art. Words cannot describe it, you have to feel it. Walking up to the cottage surrounded by beautiful foliage and the apple trees and herbs, hearing the sound of the water fountain at the door. Then, you open the Dutch doors to walk into the artisan inspired kitchen and you are welcomed by a cooking fireplace an old carpenters table island in the middle of the kitchen, the natural sunlight filling the room. You then walk into the reading room, visually tricking your mind into being in a labyrinth like library that extend on and on. In the sleeping nook, waking to birds singing and sunlight peeking through the flowers and trees just outside. In the morning sipping coffee looking out the Dutch doors overlooking the garden and lake outside, ahhh so relaxing. Cooking on the Bridge and Beach antique stove, gives you a feeling like you have stepped back in time to simpler days. Eating dinner in the cozy nook with sunlight filling the room, helps bring your soul back to savoring your meal, not just eating your meal. Breakfast outside in the garden, trees, flowers, lizards and birds joining you while you relax. Building a jigsaw puzzle at night with the fireplace ablaze in the back, what a way to finish the day. Lori directed me to the book in her library, A Pattern Language, which helped me really see her vision and her concept so clearly. I wish I could re-create her masterpiece, but no, I'll just have to visit again and experience its wonders again. Still so many nooks and crannies and details to find hidden throughout her cottage. Lori and her family, have wonderful place. It's a jem!!

  • Lori has built a dream home. We felt so comfortable and cozy in this amazing cottage. There are beautiful windows, amazing beams, a gorgeous garden, and a plethora of books to enjoy by the warm fireplace. Lori was a fantastic host and truly welcomed us into her magical cottage in the country.

  • We booked the accommodation for one night and Jocelin replied very quick. The communication in advance was very easy and helpful. The house is such a wonderful place with an amazing view. Everything was so clean and the breakfast was very delicious. It is really worth to stay at her place. I highly recommend it :-) Thanks again

  • Jocelin and her husband were very helpful, they gave a lot of advise for our next stop in Big Sur. And their breakfast was so great. We really felt very welcome, offered us a very delicious piece of applepie, And arrange a second night for us, so helpful! great!

    Ellen2016-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • TOP NOTCH Super Friendly Service and Beautifully Maintained HOME in a SAFE neighborhood. Jocelin's AirBnB offering is pair with any of the Five Star Bed-N-Breakfasts that I have stayed in over their years. As host my son and I could not have asked for a more welcoming environment and yes she cook. Our over easy eggs and rice (my request), fresh fruit and coffee provided the energy that we needed to take in the day! This spot is a GO!

    Millard2017-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely well kept home. The grounds and interior are spotless and tastefully decorated. We enjoyed total comfort and exceptional hospitality. This property is a short drive from the coast, but the setting is peaceful and lovely - the best AirBnB deal I have found!

    Joan2017-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is hands down thee best airbnb stay we have ever had. Jocelin not only has a beautiful, scenic and cozy home but besides all of that she is definitely the cherry on top. Jocelin is kind and thoughtful and definitely goes above and beyond to make you feel at home. I contacted her about a month and a half prior to our stay and she was efficiently responsive. I had inquired about taking a dip into her jacuzzi as a surprise for my girlfriend for valentines weekend and she 110% supported my ideas and filled the house with roses and candles lit making it all a valentines theme, including her cute scrumptious pink pancakes for breakfast. On top of that, she took the time to call a mechanic to fix the light in the jacuzzi so that we could have the red light on during our stay to set the mood. Everything was perfect. We were bummed to leave so soon as it was such a treat getting to know Jocelin as much as we did. We cannot emphasize it enough how lucky we are to have met Jocelin. We are so excited to refer her to all our friends and family and for the next time we stay in the future.

    Jiane2017-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Jocelin is seriously the best host we've ever had on Airbnb. Very attentive but also respectful of privacy and truly wants her guests to enjoy their time. The property itself is AMAZING!!! Seriously breathtaking and straight up spa mode. Hot tub, beautiful views, even the robes she has are super comfy. She made us mimosas on Sunday... mimosas? lol she's the best! Any time I stay down in that area I'm going to stay here :)

    Jewel2017-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • Jocelin was so kind and welcoming and we immediately felt at home. We arrived around 10 p.m. at night but she still asked us if we wanted to go hot tubbing or use the fire pit. The next morning, she prepared us a darling breakfast - coffee, scones, fresh fruit, and yogurt. The room was very clean and well decorated.

    Anna2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great place and such a friendly host! We really want to recommend that place. Jocelin is a really friendly person who wants you to have a great time at her house. She made delicious breakfast, with good coffee and her service was beyond our expectations. From her place you can drive to Monterey under 30min and to the Beach in 15min. And when you arrive home in the evening, you can sit in the Hottub and enjoy a wine or a hot chocolate. We loved spending our time there.

  • We didn't get in until late the first night, but Aaron didn't have a problem with it and made us feel at home. It was a little tricky to find because GPS puts you a couple houses down but he sent pictures of the outside and additional directions. Overall, It was a great stay. The host was super nice and made some good suggestions for things to do. Also, the bed was super comfy and the room was very homey.

  • House built from his own hands and designed by her, this is absolutely a warm loving home & not a hotel experience in any way. I loved the raw, real, atmosphere. I stayed in the loft, and although a good quality mattress up there would just catapult the whole experience to another level altogether, I slept soundly, which is rare. In total, I felt like a welcomed member of the family returning home after a long trip, and I met so many interesting and wonderful people! I will back as often as possible and will bring friends and family when I can :) thank you for your gracious hospitality and for the early yoga & meditation! What a great way to start the day!

  • I knew this place was special when I first saw it online but staying their was truly an unforgettable experience. I loved my climb to my loft and discovering the maze of rooms that were there. Waking up to yoga and the gong started my day off wonderfully. The animals were my favorite part!!

  • Sukhmandir's house is a great cool run away solution if you look for kind, communicative, and even spiritual exchanges in your vacations. Very unique, friendly and clean tho you will need to b able to climb a ladder if you choose to stay at the loft.

  • Fourth year medical student exploring the California coast between residency interviews. Overall definitely enjoyed my stay. Read the description of the Peace Temple Abode carefully, as it's a very accurate description. Definitely had a hippie sort of vibe, especially with the other guests, but I knew that would be the case coming in after reading the description. I figured if you're doing airbnb, you're doing it for 1. the price, 2. the character, and 3. the story. And the Peace Temple Abode was reasonably priced and definitely had character and a unique story, so I figured why not? It's located in a very quiet, fairly remote area, but (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps will find it for you without a problem. I arrived late at night and it was no issue. Expect to climb into the loft via a ladder and leave your luggage at the base of the ladder. The ladder was very very close to the wall, which made it slightly harder to grip the rungs because there was little space, but overall still fairly easy if you are able-bodied. The loft itself was very cozy and cute. Also had a space heater and a fan, which I used to help dry my hiking boots overnight after they got soaked in a storm. Expect morning yoga at 6:30 am, gong at 7am. I didn't participate, but the yoga is the kind where the host expounds on topics like consciousness, etc. Great if you're into that kind of stuff, but I brought earplugs in case I wanted to sleep through, and they worked pretty well. Still tough to sleep through the gong, but I had a busy couple days planned so didn't want to sleep in too late. The location of the Peace Temple Abode was perfect for me, central between Big Sur to the south and Santa Cruz and SF to the north. Easy access to Route 1, and I drove a few hours each day to get to and from my day trip activities, but I was glad for the central location. There are a bunch of other guests all kind of with that hippie vibe as well, but obviously if I minded that I wouldn't have stayed here. I chose to do my own thing and was gone all day most days and chose not to interact with the other guests much. I would say the only main drawback was with the bathroom. When I went to take a shower the morning after arriving, I found quite a number of tiny ants crawling around the edge of the shower. California was in the middle of the HUGE storm that brought it out of its drought, so maybe that played a role, but I was kind of awkwardly stuck not wanting to interrupt yoga but also wanting to use a different bathroom to shower. When I told the host, he apologized and showed me to a different bathroom, which was perfectly clean, and which I used to shower for the...

    Erika2017-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • The very early morning discussions, meditation and yoga were a wonderful way to start the day. Experiencing the vibrations of the gong as they sent each one of us out for our days' journeys was an experience I plan on recalling when I need to feel inspired.

    Elisabeth2017-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Always love coming here. Needed a space where I could hide away to finish a writing project, and that's exactly what I got. Thank you!

    Sarah2017-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place for solo travelers. I had access to a small but cosy attic that you can reach from a stair at the wall. The bed was very confortable, there was a small heater and coach in it also. The best part is to wake up with Sukhmandir and his teachings of yoga, meditation and the playing of the gong. The place is 20 min away from Carmel and Point Lobos which I found quite amazing. Yo definitely need a car to get there and around. Everyone was very friendly.

    Oliver2017-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • Sleeping in the loft was a really exciting experience. I felt like a teenager climbing up to a tree house, really romantic! Also I highly recommend the yoga classes at 7 am in the morning! A really wonderful experience and a really friendly host!

  • Angel was one of the friendliest individuals we have met- she was positive, upbeat, accommodating, and generous. She made us feel at home in this cozy and cool bus, bringing us into her family and community as though we were her own! It was a pleasure to be exposed to the mystery and magic of her home/farm/bus and to be a part of a unique cultural experience. We were trusted as guests, and were able to interact freely with our new environment. The location was the perfect spot between Santa Cruz and Monterey, allowing us to take easy day trips to bustling areas, only to come back home to the comfort of this great disco bus. Angel has the most wonderful and loving pets, who will make you feel at home. If we are back in the Salinas area, we will certainly be paying our new friends a visit. Thanks for everything!

  • Angel was very welcoming and the place looked as it is listed. The morning yoga was really good and I would definitely go back there in the future.

  • We had an amazing stay in the bus! The property is amazing, and we loved meeting Angel and Simran. The Salinas/Monterey area is a great place to explore- beaches, cannery row, big sur, and pinnacles national park. We went rock climbing with Angel and Simran, did yoga in the morning, and enjoyed cozy nights of sleep on the bus.

  • The School bus stay was very comfortable. The family is welcoming and open. Their house is adjacent to the bus. Within few minutes of arriving Angel gave me an orientation of the house (bathrooms/kitchen, etc. etc.) and in no time I was conversing with the family as if I was old time friend. The family is into Yoga and an area of the house is set aside for practice in the mornings. On the following morning I joined in their yoga session and it was one of a kind experience!

  • Angel was an amazing host & the bus was so cozy & comfortable. Also trying the 6am yoga while the sun rose was simply amazing! Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a new experience!

  • This school bus is a wonderful place to stay to be confortable and close to nature ! It's easy to reach nice places. We visited Monterey and Point Lobos, and we saw whales, see otters, seals, see lions and pelicans... There were a lot of people in the main house and we were sorry to not meet Angel and Satsimran, but Angel's mother was very nice.

  • Angel made us feel welcome, our 'digs' were unusual. Out in the country, passed many miles of sharecroppers working in fields, which was nice to experience. We take out food so for granted, forget all the toiling that goes into making that happen. Wonder how CA. will survive the current drought. So many fields lay barren, others look great, I'm sure its the ones that are watered that look so abundant. Enjoyed the goat, ducks and chickens, hadn't heard a rooster crow in many years.

  • I felt very welcomed and our stay was great! The bus was sweet and the bed was very comfortable. Their dogs and cats were just as welcoming. Overall our stay was wonderful and relaxing!

  • The stay in Andrea's house was absolutely perfect. It was all very tidy and so lovely there. After a very warm welcome she showed us everything we need around the house and she also gave us some tipps what to do in the area. We had the whole house for ourself, what we enjoyed a lot. We would absolutely recommend to stay there.

  • This was our first stay at Andrea's home. She communicated well with us to ensure we had everything we needed. Her home is comfortable and well set-up for visitors. Andrea was also flexible about arrival and departure times. We hope to take advantage of the availability of her home the next time we visit. John & Lisa

  • Andrea was an absolute gem about the reservation. Because of our mismatched schedule I could not meet her at a convenient time, and she allowed me to stay an extra night without charge to accommodate! Her place was beautiful, and comfortable. I had a wonderful weekend there, and definitely recommend her place!

  • Andrea is a great host! Her place is VERY clean and cozy. I loved everything about my stay. Located in a cute and safe neighbourhood, I felt home away from home. I was able to communicate with Andrea before arriving and she was very accommodating since I was running late. I would definitely recommend staying here as I am sure I will in the future again. 10/10!!

  • 1st time using Airbnb & what a special stay it was! Ileana & her family made us feel so very (URL HIDDEN) was indeed like coming home. From the basket of welcome goodies to the helpful information brochure, everything that could be done was done. My hubby & I enjoyed visiting with our hosts & really felt like we were seeing old friends. Highly recommend this place. It's a close drive to many interesting places and there is a lot do in the area.

  • Ileana and her family were so kind and welcoming! They have a lovely home in Hollister, which is a quiet inland city, not too far from Monterey by car. Ileana provides a nice clean room and bathroom in a safe and secure neighbourhood with easy parking. She was a gracious host and even offered to get us breakfast in the morning! I highly recommend staying at Ileana's place for anyone visiting the o with a car. What a great host!
