What an absolutely beautiful place to stay. It was like an oasis in the middle of a forest. The accommodations were very comfortable and had everything I would need. The view of the lake from the living room was stunning! I really enjoyed jumping in the lake for a good swim. and my dog enjoyed exploring the area and getting to know the home dog, Tilly. Kathleen and Greg were very friendly and accommodating. if you need a place to escape to, this is it!

What a wonderful play to stay. It was everything it says it was and more. Anita is DEFINITELY a super host for a reason. She was always recommending things to do places to eat and always a text away. We will definitely be back but in the summer or fall next time to enjoy the outside area. We did get snow and it was nice to sit by the fireplace and watch from inside. Until next time!!!

Rest Assured with hot tub

BethRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Thank you for letting us stay. it was wonderful being able to have our two dogs with us. Bed was comfortable and and there was ample room for our two 18 year olds. The hot tub was clean and warm! Used it every day. Only thing I would not, and this doesn't take away from the review or rating, is the pond wasn't quite the view we thought it would be and there were more lizards than fish. nothing the host can control. Just something to note depending on the expectations of the guest and what they are looking for. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again

Lone Star Retreat # 3 - Beautiful lake views!

MasonRating, 5 starstoday
It's a nice getaway with a beautiful view. The unit was easy enough to find with easy access to the surrounding area. It was a clean and professional rental. We would stay here again. FYI: The steps to the units and path to the lake could be difficult for children and the elderly. We didn't have a problem with them. Just make sure steps and such aren't a problem for you before booking.

OPEN: Red Dog Barn: See bison walk by cabin

DanielRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Our family really enjoyed our stay at the Red Dog Barn. The barn was just perfect for our size family (2 adults and 2 kids). Since the weather was a little rainy while there, we spent time playing billiards and on the arcade machine, especially in the evenings. Our kids loved seeing and feeding the animals on the property. Cheryl and her husband were gracious hosts. We elected to have the kids do the morning animal feeding run, which they loved. Seeing the Bison up close and learning about their history there is quite a treat. We look forward to the opportunity to stay again.

Asheville Pet Friendly Apartment - Woods, Trails

KaitlinRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We LOVED our stay at Elizabeth’s! We were two humans plus a dog and found the unit to be very comfortable. There were so many incredibly thoughtful touches that made our stay so lovely. It really did feel like a little home away from home — which was perfect for our little WFA (work from Asheville) adventure. The house is well stocked with everything a traveler could need. And the yard is perfect and secure for any furry travelers. The location is convenient to Asheville and in super close proximity to some great hiking in the Bent Creek forest and around the NC Arboretum. We will absolutely be looking to stay here in the future! This spot is such a gem!

Home was just as described and very comfortable! It was appreciated that Diane had anything you could think of available just in case we forgot which I haven’t come across at most Airbnbs. We didn’t need to use the items but there were spices, butter, breakfast mixes, toothbrushes and even a hair straightener and a curling iron! We had a great time and enjoyed our stay. We had an amazing stay at Jennifer’s cabin. It was a beautiful secluded mountain stay but close to Bryson City’s breweries, restaurants, and the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. Spent our days mostly on the trails, but the game room is well equipped if you encounter any rainy days or just want to stay close to home. Would definitely recommend!

It was really easy to find due to the directions that were given to us before arrival. There was a book on the counter with places people enjoyed going, take out menus, and reviews of local attractions. The space was clean and had everything we needed. It wasn’t as private as some of the others we’ve stayed in but it was a nice area.

It was a beautiful cabin decorated for Christmas. We stay the week of Christmas 2024 and their was 12 of us, 6 kids and 6 adults. The cabin worked wonderful for us. It was large enough with the upstairs and the basement that each of my family had their own space to relax. The fireplace worked wonderfully, the kids and grandkids enjoyed s'mores over the fire. It was a true pleasure to relax and enjoy family. The weather was also excellent, we could stay out on the back deck and enjoy the views of all the mountains.

We enjoyed our time a Sam's place. It is a beautiful cabin. Sam was very responsive and showed concern when I let him know we had a medical emergency with my dad (thank you Sam) and when I reached out to him late at night. Upon arrival the front door was left wide open and it was scary. I sent a message and he responded immediately. The cleaning lady left it open by mistake. That was the only thing I had a problem with. Mistakes happen! Other then that, we enjoyed ourselves and we'll be back!!!

Your guide to Maggie Valley

Welcome to Maggie Valley

Tucked into North Carolina’s Great Smoky Mountains, this laid-back resort town’s claims to fame are its highly desirable location, small-town charm, and frequent festivals, which include car and motorcycle rallies, live bluegrass shows, and clogging extravaganzas. Highlights in the old-timey downtown include Wheels Through Time, a fascinating rare car and motorcycle museum, along with plenty of craft shops, tasty restaurants, and moonshine distilleries.

The town is great, but it’s the out-of-town attractions of Southern Appalachia that draw travelers into using Maggie Valley as a base: Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the country’s most popular park, and the Blue Ridge Parkway scenic drive is a classic, particularly in the fall when the leaves are changing. In wintertime, visitors hit the powder-covered slopes at the nearby Cataloochee Ski Area and Tube World for some of the region’s best skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Maggie Valley

Maggie Valley experiences four distinct seasons. The wintertime is pretty cold, and snow, sleet, and freezing rain sometimes make driving a challenge. Springtime brings bright green foliage and milder temperatures, but the region has been known to see snowfall as late as May, so you’ll still need to layer up. Summer days are warm (and therefore highly desirable for travelers), but the fall is the most popular season to stay in one of the area’s cabins, with Technicolor leaves, abundant fresh produce, and lots of festivals. Note that certain businesses and attractions close in colder months: For example, Wheels Through Time is only open from April to November, and Stompin’ Ground (an Appalachian-style Saturday night dance event) stretches from April to October.

Top things to do in Maggie Valley

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Straddling the North Carolina-Tennessee border, these 520,976 acres of mountains and forestland are a national park, International Biosphere Reserve, and UNESCO World Heritage Site all in one. The Smokies are beloved for hikes and scenic drives through old-growth forests, thundering waterfalls, and peaks that soar to more than 6,000 feet. The Appalachian Trail passes through the park, which is home to more than 100,000 species of plant and animal, including black bears.

Elk-watching

Early settlers to this region overhunted elk, and all were gone by the late 1700s. But in 2001, the National Park Service reintroduced the large creatures to what is now Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The most common time to spot them is around sunrise and sunset, and they often hang out just outside of Maggie Valley in Cataloochee Valley.

Cataloochee Ski Area

The first ski area in North Carolina is still one of the best. Its automatic snow-blowing system regularly blankets the mountain’s 18 trails in powder, and three chairlifts are in operation from November to March. The resort offers rentals, skiing and snowboarding instruction, and snow tubing runs.
