This was the third time visiting Gary's place and it was just as incredible as always. As soon as you step into his backyard, you are taken away into calmness and tranquility. He is such a green thumb, it feels like a hidden oasis. He has EVERYTHING you could need. And stepping into the pool house, you are greeted with fresh cookies, an itinerary and the house rules. He is very communicative and very friendly. he is there when needed, or if you prefer privacy he will respect that as well. We definitely have to try his dinner the next time, but we never miss the breakfast. NEVER MISS THE BREAKFAST! Gary makes everything himself and it is amazing each and every time. We cannot get over how great him and his place is. he also has the sweetest most cutest puppies ever! Make sure you ask to meet them :) 100/10. This place is unmatched. A hidden gem, both Gary and his Home. <3

The Birdhouse on the Rio - A South Texas Retreat

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. The pictures on AirBnB of the grounds and lake looked too good to be true. It was even better than that! It's your own personal wildlife refuge. I came to south Texas for all of the famous birding national refuges, state parks, etc. (which really were amazing!) Yet, I found myself wanting to get back early each night to The Birdhouse on the Rio just to see what I could find. An amazing cast of characters live there and many other guest stars come for a visit! Even if you're not a birder and just enjoy nature, there are more peaceful places to sit outside at The Birdhouse than the inside of most homes. If that's not enough, the house is just about perfect and the owners are so welcoming and thoughtful. That was the best rental at which I've stayed. A huge thank you to the owners for doing their part in providing a natural habitat for all of our feathered and furry friends... and sharing it with us.
