  • By far the best Airbnb we’ve stayed in! The location was beautiful, the room was thoughtfully designed with some lovely touches. Andrea was very friendly and helpful, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. We would love to return again, and would highly recommend this Airbnb!

  • Room C was a great space for one person. There were a lot of amenities I wasn't expecting in an air bnb. The private shower and bathroom and the flannel sheets were the best part. Very cozy space. Andrea responded immediately to my questions about parking etc before I arrived.

Room E is a "room with a view" of the Kennebec River and park. The house is within 2 blocks of downtown. The room is completely furnished with L.L. Bean furniture and includes cable TV, mini fridge, iron and iron board & cozy bathrobe. The bed has warm flannel sheets. Private bathroom in gym. Door accessed by digital lock & there is a chain lock on the inside. For stays of two nights or longer complimentary L.L. Bean bicycles and kayaks are available. The rooming house is self check in.
The Hallowell Historic Rooming House is newly renovated house that was built in the 1820s by a philanthropist and abolitionist. There is a granite tunnel that leads from the house to the river. The third floor was used as a dormitory possibly for freedom seekers. It is a post and beam house where all of the beams have been exposed. The house is designed for long term accommodations. There is designated space in the pantry and under the counters for groceries. Each room has it's own refrigerator and there is designated space in the common refrigerator and deep freezer. Rooms are cleaned and linens changed weekly. Bathrooms are cleaned weekly. The second bed is a very comfortable LL Bean roll out cot. Complimentary laundry for stays of five nights or konger.
There is a lot to do in Hallowell. We have a live theater, live music, many different restaurants and shops. Vaughn Woods is nearby with walking trails. The Kennebec River Rail Trail goes through Hallowell. The Kennebec River is a great place to kayak and see bald eagles soaring and sturgeon jumping.
  • Room E is cozy, but has everything you need for an easy overnight. TV, Desk, Comfortable armchair and bed, you feel like you're getting a lot out of this private space than just a bed. Also, Andrea left thoughtful touches like a chocolate by the bed and a glass of wine for me.

    Shannon2018-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • For the cost, this is a great find. Quiet hours were observed after 10pm by all guests. Andrea had left ear plugs and there was a sound machine. I didn't need either one. There were at least two air fresheners (one in my room on a timer and a plug-in in the bathroom). If you are sensitive to these, now you know and could ask for the one in your room to be turned off prior to arrival. It's a no shoe place, so bring slippers or indoor shoes if you don't want to go around in bare feet or your socks. Andrea has a lot of nice touches like extra toiletries and things available. The towels were very plush.

  • Wonderful place

    Anna2019-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea has great attention to detail and goes out of the way to make sure that you have everything you need. The amount of amenities provided coupled with the low cost create substantial value. I will go out of my way to stay here again if available in the future.

Local to shops, restaurants and the great outdoors.

  • Sylvia's place was chosen due specifically due to the location and price. Her place was a little more than halfway from our return trip from Nova Scotia. We also noted that she would have breakfast. She did a great job of seeking and initiating communication regarding our coming to her place. She gave tips to find the place based on previous guests experiencing some confusion. We found her home with very little difficulty. The room we stayed in was a bit small but we made do. We also shared the bathroom with the host. She was concerned about the temperature and helped install a window A/C unit so we would be more comfortable (this was after 9 PM). The major highlight of our over night stay was the friendly conversation and the wonderful fresh organic breakfast in the morning. Her personal contribution of talk and preparing breakfast made the time very pleasant.

Antique cape farmhouse 2'nd floor bedroom with full size bed. Short walk to the Barn at Silver Oaks down the street. There is a photo, but because people don't look, there are 4 cats! Located on 5 acres of land, 1 mi from downtown, public beach on Maranacook Lake and Norcross Point (free concerts held every Sunday July-August) 10 miles from Augusta, 1 hour drive to Reid State Park on Atlantic Ocean. Free range chickens and geese, fresh eggs daily. Abundance of wildlife. Maine living.
For now this is just a bedroom available, but by fall I am hoping to have the entire 2'nd floor available for air BnB. This is a NON SMOKING apartment. Cigarette smoking must be done at least 50 feet from entrance of home, and filters put in designated containers due to free range chickens. There are cats and a dog on the property, so if you have allergies probably not a good fit. However, there are no inlaid carpets; pine floors abound. Clean and mellow owner on site and shares apartment with guest during stay. Cooking facilities and all cooking items available. There is a public laundromat about 1.5 miles from home.
My neighborhood is located on a state route, but it is a quiet neighborhood and most of us keep to ourselves. I have 5 private acres that have paths to walk and gardens to enjoy, as well as wild edibles for your enjoyment. Lots of wild birds, including turkeys, as well.
  • Very neat place. Greated by friendly cats and the owner.. Everything was set up nice and couldn't ask for more for the great price.

If you are interested in rustic camping but are done with sleeping in a tent, and want to experience Maine on the cheap, this electrified space has housed many a guest over the years. It is an unfinished but cozy 1.5 story loft over a garage. There is no running water and it is NOT suitable for small children due to ladder access to sleeping loft and high deck. There is a camp toilet which is the responsibility of the guest to empty and rinse daily if used. Wifi inside or yard depending.
This space is not for the faint of heart, the ladder is steep and not safe for someone over 200 pounds. There is a small cot and couch on main floor if needed. There is a hotplate, microwave, toaster oven, 2 cup coffee maker, radio, ceiling fan, queen sized mattress and boxspring, and plenty of outlets. A handyperson could get a long term deal on this property if they were willing to put in finishing work. Water is available at the hose. This space is only available during the summer and early fall due to lack of heat and insulation. The whole property is full of paths and is situated on 5 acres of land.
This is a quiet neighborhood on a state route. Backroads lead to the mountains, main roads lead to the coast. We are 1 mile from the public beach. There are biking trails and Mt. Pisgah is a short ride away.
  • A nice little place on a cute farm with the necessities needed for a place to stay at a great price! Elizabeth was very welcoming and helpful. Loved the chickens, geese, cats & dogs!

  • This is a great place if you need a good night's sleep on a tight travel budget. There is a clean bed or a sofa to sleep on. Sheets and blankets are provided. The host is very friendly. The rooster will wake you in the morning if you forgot your alarm clock!

    Jake2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • For the free-spirited, money conscious traveler! Perhaps one of the most memorable and fun places I’ve stayed. Certainly not for the faint of heart... but if it looks intriguing, go for it and be ready for a memory that’ll last a lifetime. LOVED staying here.

    Jamie2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Elizabeth’s place was a great if you’re looking to stay at a place that’s between camping and glamping. When walking in, the radio was playing and the musical instruments were a very nice touch! The bed that’s up on the loft is comfortable, and I slept well. I didn’t use the appliance though. Elizabeth was really friendly and even offered fresh peaches. Thanks!

    Diane2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Elizabeth's place is exactly as advertised. It was perfect for our needs, our dogs loved it and after exploring the little trails on the property, we all passed right out and slept like babies. If you saw the pictures and read the description and thought "this sounds perfect for us," then it is! If you read it and didn't know how to feel, well, maybe there is a different space for you out there. We would absolutely stay with Elizabeth and her happy little critters again.

My pups and I had the pleasure of an extended stay and couldn't be happier with our time here. The dog run was especially appreciated for a convenient spot to stretch the pups' legs. The surrounding area is gorgeous and just minutes away from everything. Thanks for a wonderful trip, we hope to return soon!

In fact in addition to the stove, oven, fridge, toaster, iron, it was equipped with all cooking utensils. It is great place for families who need to do some basic cooking away from home. There was a minor hiccup with check in & not having our room ready for our pup but the host was quick to respond & find solutions. It was quiet, close to where we needed to be & our pup was comfy.

  • My dad and I stayed here on the way back from a few days in Halifax. What a lovely place! Extremely clean, specious, comfy and everything you need. The beds are so comfortable. I didn't want to get up so early but we had along trip back to Buffalo. I absolutely loved the new color paint in our room too :) It made it very cheery :) I hope to get up that way again soon and will definitely stay here again.

  • This unit was the perfect spot for two of us to stay on our way north from Boston to Sugarloaf. The apartment was exactly as pictured, a very cozy and warm place to duck in from the cold. Check-in was seamless with a keyless entry code. There was water, seltzer, tea, and coffee there in the unit as well as essential toiletries. We were able to relax for the evening and got a solid night's sleep in the very comfortable bed before setting back out on our way. In terms of the neighborhood, the apartment is really close to highway access, which was perfect for our purposes. We also stopped at Cushnoc Brewing in the Historic River district of Augusta for delicious wood-fired pizza and beer on our way in to town, a less than 10-minute drive from the apartment. We would certainly stay here again!

  • Jody’s place is clean, comfortable and has thoughtful touches (free beer, a white noise machine, K-cup machine with coffee pods) that made our stay great. A perfect spot for weekend travelers!

My husband & I own this lovely 18 unit motel & have personally renovated, decorated & supplied each guest rm with all you need for an overnight or extended stay! All have fridges, microwaves, coffee pots & toasters & utensils & most have stoves!
Each guest unit has either a king or queen bed, at least an under the counter fridge, microwave, coffee pot, utensils, dishes and a toaster. Most have a stove top too! Each has a private bath with a shower. All are first floor with an exterior door with parking in front of your door.
Although we do not have any neighbors who "live" next to the property, we are located in the wonderful, small town of Manchester, where, much like the "Cheers" song, "everybody knows your name". So, if you are walking on our neighbors property, please respect it like it was your own. For example: don't litter and if walking your dog, pick up after them. Within a few hundred yards to the east, there is a Circle K convenience store where you can pick up milk, bread, butter, coffee, drinks, snacks, homemade doughnuts and even beer, wine and liquor. Manchester "center" has a Rite Aid, post office, Duncan Donuts, Subway and a couple of gas/convenience stores and is between 1/4 and 1/2 mile to the west.
  • Close to the interstate, but very quiet. Room was just where I happened to park. Nice features including small fridge, microwave and some dishes. Hosts made sure I had everything I needed.

  • This was our third stay with Sheila and Kent, and I'm sure it won't be our last! We usually book at the last minute, and Sheila and Kent are incredibly responsive and accommodating even with such short notice. They're great hosts, and we plan to come back every time we visit the Portland area!

    Melissa2016-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great location to get to easily from the highway. The service at the main office was excellent and very willing to accommodate. The room itself had everything we needed and was very clean. Great stay.

    Jenna2016-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • The place was super clean and well equipped. Extremely glad I found this listing at the right time. Sheila and Kent were very hospitable and ensured all was well. They were easy to reach and responded fast. It was a pleasure staying here.

    Amogh2015-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • First of all the hosts took my credit card when I arrived in charged me even though Airbnb says they paid the host an hour before I arrived. I did not receive the receipt from Airbnb so I did not know they had already paid the host. The host tried to get around the Airbnb fee by taking my payment directly. Secondly this is not an Airbnb but two motels in rural Maine. They are both on a very noisy Road that you don't hear when you're sleeping at night so much but you cannot sit outside during the day. They did a nice job renovating the room 19 at the Fairway but the odor is overpowering. I believe there are long-term tenants in the motel many of whom smoke and they sit out front so the smoke blows into all the units. It may have been pet odor or mold but it was overpowering and even with the air conditioning on my allergies went haywire! I asked for a non-smoking no

    Nina2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Centrally located, easy access to Portland. Good for a quick trip through the area.

    Sara2017-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute space and we enjoyed our time. It was quiet, clean, and close enough to major cities and shopping areas. We didn't realize it was a motel space, we thought it was an apartment or a house, so that could have been made clearer in the description.

  • Great hosts. Lovely grounds and space. They have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable; ice and buckets, free cookies and other goodies in the fridge, hot tub, your name on the door, menus from local restaurants and many other touches. Breakfast was incredible!!! Many choices and everything was delicious. Highly recommend.

    Karen2017-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • This was such a fun place to visit for a getaway for my husband and I! We loved the local area, and especially the quiet of the AirBnB location! Nothing but the sound of the birds and wind! There were so many special touches all over the place, you could tell they had spent lots of time considering everything to make your stay as wonderful as possible! We LOVED the sauna and hot tub! But my favorite part of staying here was that it was a very scent-neutral space...everything, from linens to the air) smelled fresh and clean but without perfumes or artificial scents!!

    Mary2019-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • This Inn is the perfect place to stay to disconnect from the fast paced life in the city. Scott is the most hospitable guy ever and the breakfast is just amazing.

    Oriana 2019-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent service. Beautiful location. Restful place.

    Emily2017-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was perfectly lovely, exactly as described. Scott and Vincent were welcoming and available (but not intrusive) and breakfast was delicious. On my walk I think I saw the hens responsible for my perfect 4-minute eggs cooked by Vincent.

    Barbara2015-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed my stay and meeting Scott. He's an excellent host and the accommodations were clean and well-maintained. This is a terrific B&B and they take a great deal of pride in running it well and making the guests feel right at home. The breakfast was also great--farm fresh eggs from the on-site hens!

    Stefan2017-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • This bed and breakfast is really lovely, and the hosts are so friendly. Breakfast was fantastic, with an impressive menu including eggs from the chickens on the premises, pancakes with Maine blueberries, and other local items. There was a constantly-filled cookie jar and other homemade baked goods in the fridge, and an endless supply of coffee and tea. All in all, a really professionally run place with a personal touch. Highly recommended.

    Corey2014-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Scott and Vince have a charming B&B outside Augusta, Maine in a country-like setting just minutes from the city. Home-like yet richly awash with oils and watercolors of local artists for sale, dozens of tomes for every reading taste, and nooks and crannies to hide away with various home baked goodies and while away the hours with a good read or listening to the old-fashioned radio and NPR. Very clean, ultra welcoming, it's like coming home to your own private estate. Breakfast is made to order and fabulous - absolutely no excuse for ever being hungry. I had thought I would try a couple different places but never made it - this is now my home away from home. My name was even on the door lest I lose my way! Take me home, country roads, as long as I end up at Maple Hill Farm.

  • Andrea's property is really lovely. The decor is cosy with great style. The view of the river from the back deck is a treat. Andrea accommodated us at short notice and the kitchen was well stocked with useful ameneties. Hallowell is a charming little town and I particularly recommend Scrummy Afters sweet shop and Granite City Park along the riverbank.

Your own island! Who has not dreamed of having one? This little gem of an island can be yours for a week. Little Diamond Island is a 1/4 acre island located in Lake Cobbossee in West Gardiner Maine. Just 20 minutes from Augusta Please note: good housekeeping is required of everyone. No cleaning service is provided.
Little Diamond Island in Lake Cobbossee is a unique lake front vacation rental. Rustic 3 room cabin with lake views from every window. The lake is just steps away in any direction. Sandy bottom swimming areas and the lake is great for boating, canoeing, kayaking or jet skiing. Island vacationing is not for everyone. If you love camping (not the same as RV'ing) you will love this. It is a lot like camping except you have a real bed to sleep in. Rustic in nature there is no electricity or running water. We do provide a composting toilet, propane stove, refrigerator and solar campers shower. This is a peaceful spot for anyone who loves nature. Except for the occasional boat the only sounds you hear are the young osprey begging for food in the nest above the cottage and the mournful cry of the loons as they float past the island. You can see nesting osprey, pileated woodpeckers, turtles, hummingbirds and otter.
  • Absolutely beautiful. Exceeded expectations for a peaceful getaway. Very cozy and almost everything you might need is stocked in the cabin, incase you forgot something. Fishing was (Website hidden by Airbnb) of the best in the state. Propane fire pit was awesome. I hope to have the opportunity to return. You'll love it.

  • Great little island. Came just before a rain storm, energy was wonderful. Sun came out and with all windows open dried out, aired out and was very comfortable. We brought picnic items so didn't bother with cooking. We brought our own cooler with ice. Plates, utensils all there, washed up in the lake. Just enjoyed the canoe - caught up to a family of loons and got some great photos, loved hearing their calls during the day and some at night. Did lots of swimming and reading on the deck. Bed was comfortable, we put down a sleeping bag then our sheets and our own pillows. (there are several pillows there) The light blanket there was just right for early morning cool. The wind was just right for keeping us cool during the day on the deck . Lovely to hear the wind in the trees. Was visited by a humming bird so we cleaned out the dirty feeder very thoroughly and made up the proper 1 to 4 sugar to water mix and put it out. The two female hummers were very appreciative and came often after that. We also were visited by a Pileated Woodpecker. Was a pleasure to stay (we both grew up camping) and very relaxing and quiet. No noisy neighbors. A real get away retreat.

  • If you have a camper's heart, but don't want to sleep in a tent or have your vacation spoiled by rain and also want to just once in your life have an island to yourself...here's your personal heaven on earth. We loved this sweet place. Be forewarned though, that you will need to bring water, propane, batteries, bedding, towels as well as food and all the other camping things one packs. The lake is beautiful but big, so it was choppy when we were there and as we are not spring chickens, challenging with a canoe. However, most worthwhile and wonderful. Enjoy1

    Elaine2017-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • My husband & I had a fantastic 5 night stay in Deb's cabin on the island! It was just what we were looking for - a rustic, tiny, secluded spot on the water. Having an island all to yourself is really fabulous! It was very quiet except for the sound of the water, the loons and our little osprey friends who chatted with us. Deb's directions were very easy to follow. The canoe trip from the car park is very short and easy. We had no problems with any of the propane appliances - though we did not use the propane refrigerator - we just got some ice blocks every few days and the cooler worked well for our food supply. The compost toilet also was no problem. No electricity made it the ultimate getaway to unwind. But like Deb says in her description, it's not for everyone. So if you haven't done something like this before this may not be the place to start! The lake is very large and beautiful - we did a lot of canoeing around and otherwise swam and floated in the water, read our books & played card games on the porch and enjoyed the tranquility. It was very easy to settle in and relax. We definitely plan to go back again next summer!

  • This was a most wonderful spot. It was & is JUST our cup of tea. Thank you!

    Sarah2016-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful secluded spot on the lake. Unique. Fun to canoe to and from the site, and having the canoe throughout our stay was wonderful. Did a whole lot of canoeing, swimming, enjoying the lake. Would definitely return.

    Jake2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a blissful time here. The quiet and privacy, and the lack of electronics were such a gift. We swam, and fished and sat out by the water under the green trees drinking in the calls of the loons and osprey. We came home feeling restored.

Quiet upstairs suite consisting of three rooms and a half bath near downtown Hallowell. Great for small groups.
This single family home is located within walking distance of downtown Hallowell, a music/arts hub in Central Maine. Private rooms are located on the second floor and have access to a half bath. The shower is located on the first floor and is shared with the owner. The home has been recently remodeled and features hardwood floors, colorful rooms and a quiet atmosphere.
Neighborhood is on a hill, which is great for active walks, not so great if you have mobility issues. Wooded walks are available nearby at the Vaughan Estate, Jamie’s pond, and the Hallowell recreation area. The Kennebec Rail Trail is a 13 mile bike/walking loop from Gardiner to Augusta, which is accessible from downtown Hallowell.

Our home is a few minutes' drive from downtown Hallowell, which offers many restaurants and a bustling nightlife. We are also located near a rail trail entrance, which is a charming way to walk, run, or pedal your way downtown. In the warmer months, cool off in our large in-ground swimming pool. We welcome travelers of all kinds, but our cat prefers the bipedal variety (no dogs).
Our home is large and full of character. Built around 1900, it is a unique and beautiful space which we are happy to share with guests. This is a home, not a hotel. We do not provide meals, but you may use our kitchen to cook or our refrigerator to store food. Please be aware that the main bathroom is shared, as are all spaces except the bedrooms. We encourage open communication to facilitate understanding between hosts and guests, especially for longer-term stays. It never bothers us, but traffic noise from the nearby road has occasionally been noted as bothersome to certain guests.
Hallowell is a beautiful, friendly city with a robust nightlife. Live music, antique shops, and lovely architecture are some of the things you might notice about the Granite City. There are also many restaurants to choose from. Be aware that during the week, most kitchens close around 9pm. On the weekends, kitchens may be open as late as 10pm. It may help you to research different options before you arrive!
  • Erik and Rebecca were great host, they welcomed us and made our stay fantastic. I would definitely recommend it.

  • Erik and Rebecca were awesome hosts, they made us feel very welcome! The room was clean and pleasant, the pool and hot tub were a very nice bonus, I only wish we hadn't been so busy during our stay to enjoy their company more. Walking distance from downtown Hallowell, I recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet room within reach of the coolest little town in the area!

  • This is one of my favorite Air Bnb’s!!! I stay here any time I’m in Augusta and always look forward to it. It’s in a quiet neighborhood but a quick walk into Hallowell center and some awesome bars if that’s your kind of thing. The owners are very friendly though so usually join them for a beer and a game of pool on their table.

  • This homey place reminds me of group homes I lived in in college. It's not the cleanest place, but the bed is comfortable and the price is fair. It is also quiet and Eric is a very friendly and responsive host. This isn't the best choice for a romantic getaway, but if you just want a cheap and decent room in Hallowell, this is your ticket.

  • very good hosts....accommodating us very late night check ins. clean room and we were accompanied by cute kitties on the floor. I bet summer would have a good view from this room.

  • Erik and Rebecca’s place is absolutely wonderful. Their home is rustic Maine with very nice amenities. Our private room was very clean and spacious. We had access to the entire home, including numerous bathrooms. The home is a short (1 mile) walk to the cute shops and restaurants along the riverfront in Hallowell. Tremendous value! And Eric and Rebecca are excellent hosts.

  • I had a wonderful time staying with Erik and Rebecca! They very kindly picked me up from the Bus Terminal and offered to drive me around. The area was lovely and I enjoyed many walks and the cosy atmosphere of their neighbourhood. My room was very nice and clean and so were the other rooms of the house. I can highly recommend Erik and Rebecca as hosts. We shared many good conversations and I had a fund time staying with them and would do so again any time!

    Jule2017-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Erik and Rebecca were great hosts. I was only in town for two nights for work, but I was able to bike on the Rail Trail near their house and explore some of the shops and restaurants in the area that they recommended. My room was very clean, comfortable, and a great deal!

    Rachel2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Erik waited for me despite the late hour at I arrived and helped with my bags. Erik and Rebecca gave me all support I needed: internet, access to paid sites, information about the area according to my interests. We even outings together museum, the zoological park, the outdoor cinema, etc. The quatier was what I was looking for, and having the comfort of the countryside but not far from town. I stayed over 1 month and was touched by the kindness, generosity, tranquility, and finally by the personal qualities of this family. I sincerely thank you. I hope to have the pleasure of seeing you.

  • Great stay at Erick and Rebecca's. It is what the info states, a room in a families house. If this isn't your cup of tea choose another place. These folks love to share there home with others. We had a great stay! Basics of what you need for a value price. Keep in mind it is a hill walk to town. Not a tiny hill so having a car or rental car will be a must to go into town to eat. Could hear traffic all night so we used the box fan provided in the room to drown it out. We are not city folk so I think it was louder than it would be to others. We just played hard daily and slept hard in the comfy bed. Room is very simple and basic. Thanks again Erik and Rebecca.

  • Oh, my goodness, this was a wonderful stay. After a long drive we were given a warm welcome and a delightful soak in the jacuzzi. Very flexible hosts, when we asked to check in a little early no problem. Wonderful queen sized bed so comfortable. Very large home and a sweet family. Great area.

Guests will love this cottage located a few feet from Maranacook Lake. A small private beach, private deck and patio are included in this lovely location. The lake is spring fed and is wonderful for swimming or kayaking. Inside, guests will enjoy a spacious living room with breakfast nook, screened porch, bedroom and bathroom all accessible via a private entrance. Each room boasts views of the lake, and loons can be heard while watching beautiful sunsets.
The Cottage on Maranacook Lake is surrounded by the beauty of nearby wooded hiking trails and crashing ocean waves. Live Music concerts are played every Sunday afternoon in the town park, and you can enjoy listening from the comfort of your deck.
  • Wendy's home is absolutely beautiful! It has a lovely, bright, cheerful vibe with not only direct access to a pristine lake, but views from every window. We love how the space is decorated, from the sunny yellow four poster bed to the breakfast nook to the airy, bright furnished sun room. And, the delicious, hot, homemade blueberry lemon scones were such a welcome treat. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

    Dana2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy's place was outstanding! We felt relaxed from the moment we arrived. Wendy was quick to respond to messages if we had questions and the space had everything we needed and more. The place itself was bright and cheery and beautifully decorated and very clean. I was surprised at all of the amenities (multiple seating areas outdoors, grill, porch swing, fire pit, etc). We had planned on going out to dinner but were so happy and relaxed we stayed in and grilled. In the morning Wendy brought us homemade scones for breakfast and then we borrowed the kayaks on site and paddled for a while watching the loons catch their breakfast as well. I've stayed in Air Bnbs all over the world and this one is just so special. I can't wait to stay again!

    Amy2018-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a spacious, clean, and private accommodation. It is directly on the water with balcony, beautiful lake view and access to kayaks. I took beautiful walk along the lake each morning. Wendy is friendly and helpful and her home made scones are delicious. I would definitly return.

    Terry2018-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy's house is magnificent. It is right on the beach of a beautiful lake; within steps of the front door of the apartment. It is only a few minutes from the charming town of Winthrop. Wendy has furnished this beautiful apartment with great care and taste, even to the Ralph Lauren pillows. It is quiet and restful, yet has all of the accutrements one would expect being on the lake. Book this fabulous home early, as I am sure it goes very rapidly each season. Oh, yes, and the blueberry scones she leaves at your door the first morning are without equal ANYWHERE in the world!

    Robert2018-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • We can’t say enough great things about Wendy’s place- from the beautiful views of the lake to the quiet and peaceful surroundings, you won’t be sorry if you decide to stay here! We have never been so relaxed and enjoyed our escape from the city sitting on the deck with our morning coffee, dipping our feet in the lake and grilling dinner and eating outside on the patio. The fresh baked scones on the first morning there were an added bonus- Wendy is very responsive to all of your needs and her home is sparkling clean. Hope to stay again next summer!

    Lisa2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • I had an amazing stay at Wendy's lake front cottage. (Hidden by Airbnb) maps had issues finding the house, but if you just look for the house numbers on the street it's easy to find. The cottage apartment below Wendy's home was beautiful, spotless and lovingly decorated. Wendy went above and beyond providing breakfast, thoughtful details and even offering her kayaks for use on the lake. I highly recommend this airbnb, and would visit again in a heart beat.

    Sarah2018-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended. She went above and beyond. Can’t say enough good things.

    Roy2018-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy was a warm and inviting host. She was very flexible and surprised us with homemade scones on our first morning which were delicious! She has a guest book with nice messages from past guests, and a very helpful manual listing nearby restaurants, hikes, etc. You occupy the basement level of her lake house, and you have your own entrance, a private deck and solarium, and some basic amenities (mini fridge, grill outside, microwave, coffee maker, etc). Being on the ground floor, you can hear the waves lapping on the shore and have a nice breeze to cool the place down. The place is very clean and well decorated, and it was a comfortable base for us to enjoy the lake from in between hikes and jaunts to restaurants. Highly recommend!

  • Staying at the Fairway Inn and Suites was the perfect location for my trip to Maine to be near my son's family. I waa there to welcome my new grandson into the world. The rooms are clean, nicely decorated and have a small kitchen. I was able to make meals to take to my son's home. Sheila is very nice. I also brought my dog, Bella. They have a fenced in play area for pets. Bella also had a good time.

There were some residual smells from previous smokers. I would stay here again tho for sure! The fenced dog area was extremely convenient, too!

  • This place was wonderful. The room was nicely decorated, the kitchen area was stocked with utensils and appliances, the bathroom had towels and a great shower, and the bed was very comfortable. The location was nice because it was a little secluded but within a nice driving distance for everything we wanted to visit and some yummy restaurants. Communication with Sheila & Kent was very easy and I always got a quick response. Would definitely recommend staying here.

The OLD SCHOOL HOUSE is just two blocks from downtown Hallowell, which is nicknamed the "New Orleans on the Kennebec." The city is a regional center for the arts in central Maine, with renowned art galleries, performing arts theaters, studios, festivals and local artists. Hallowell is home to renowned taverns and restaurants, with the downtown area having a high concentration of eating and drinking establishments. This is a three-bedroom SECOND floor apartment with a sweeping river view.
The space is a second floor apartment with three bedrooms, galley kitchen, full bathroom, living/dining room area with working fireplace and balcony with a great view of the Kennebec River and park. Some of the stairs to the second floor are the original 200-year old stairs that may be difficult for an elderly dog to climb. There is an uneven step due to the transition from old stairs to new stairs that meet the code, but the stair is well marked and there are makeshift handrails that will be replaced with new handrails when the stairway is finished. There is access to a complete gym in the building next door and access to complimentary bicycles and kayaks for stays of two nights or longer. The apartment has all the amenities of a five star hotel: decorative L.L. Bean furniture, fresh flowers, top of the line L.L. Bean bedding, fully equipped gym with four workout stations and personal TVs, large screen TV in the apartment with local channels and amazon prime loaded, a welcome gift and extreme cleanliness. The Old School House was the second school built in Hallowell and the first to enroll a black child in Maine. Many of the children who attended school also worked an the old cotton mill, now called Cotton Mill Apartments. The post and beam building was built by the original owners of the mill. Hallowell is two miles from the state capitol, three miles from I-295, three miles from the airport, seven miles from the Concord bus station, and six miles from the Civic Center, the University of Maine and Augusta Crossing (the mall). Complimentary laundry for stays of five nights or longer.
Hallowell is a small coastal community on a tidal river and estuary. The house is within two blocks of downtown in a quiet residential neighborhood. No steep hills to climb. Many walking and bicycle trails nearby. Vaughn Brook and trails is a short walk up Second Street. The carriage trails are known as "hobbitland," characterized by granite bridges and gurgling waterfalls. There are also trails around Jamie Pond and the Hallowell Recreation Area where the town beach is located off Town Farm Road.
  • Andrea's place is great. The location is amazing and the view from the deck to the river is spectacular Many small touches make it a terrific place to rent. One small glitch is there are 17 steps to the apartment which is on the second floor. Andrea is fixing the steps but be cautious if you have children, an old dog or a reason to not want to carry luggage and groceries up narrow steps. Hallowell is an amazing and friendly community.

    Lee2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place to stay! Andrea is a wonderful and communicative host. Her place is lovely and thoughtfully decorated, incredibly clean and very comfortable. The view from the balcony is fantastic, you can see the river but also the goings on of the town. It is the perfect place for having your cup of tea/coffee (kindly provided) and feeling the morning sun as you start the day off right. You couldn’t ask for a better location to visit Hallowell’s downtown. Although we didn’t get to enjoy the kayaks available for use, we hope to the next time. Andrea has thought of everything you might need to make your stay complete. I highly recommend this gem whether you are looking for an overnight to enjoy local food and music or as a base to travel around the area.

    Elisabeth2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place to stay if you want privacy and a lot of extra room. Nice views of the river and just across the street of great kayaking on the wild and scenic Kennebec River. We loved Hallowell it’s restaurants and its night-life. Easy access to everything Maine has to offer. Andrea helped us with everything including the Kayaks. And cant wait to come back again for the fall season. Highly recommend that you stay here!

    Wil2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • you can expect a pretty view from the balcony. It is an old historic place and eventually, after the construction is finished it will be very nice. There are many thoughtful amenities such as kitchen appliances that are appreciated.

  • Loved the kayaks and bikes! The master bed was so comfy. Firm, yet soft. Perfect. Andrea also had sleeping mask and Advil. We needed both after our long day. The town was quaint. The River was relaxing.

  • Shirley and Dave are great hosts. They are friendly and outgoing. The loft where we stayed was spacious and clean wit a private deck overlooking their beautiful rural property. They are close enough to Augusta for convenience, but far enough out for rural solitude. We hope fate allows us to return.

  • Everything about our stay was great. The breakfast is amazing. This was our first Airbnb experience and they will be tough to beat. Spotless clean, and willing to help in any way they can. Thanks Shirley and Dave !

    Allan2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Shirley and Dave are wonderful hosts! The communication was clear, the apartment is wonderful, and my experience was excellent. The apartment is on its own, but right next to him connected with the home so I had all the privacy I could want, while having access to my wonderful hosts when I needed to ask a question. The apartment is fully outfitted with many handy conveniences. The kitchen is a fully stocked one, with a range, cure egg coffee maker, microwave, toaster, large refrigerator, all the dishes and cooking implements I could desire and condiments to spare. The bathroom is large and a light with a fan by the shower stall keeps it nicely ventilated. There’s plenty of storage for those of us who bring more than we really need. It was my first experience with DIRECTV, and my TV addiction was fully satisfied. I inadvertently deleted shows from the saved list, not realizing that the dIRECTV account is a whole house one. Fortunately I apparently did not “kill“ anything of extreme importance such as a sporting event and the hosts were forgiving of my television transgression! Wifi is available, and there is an air conditioner which is apparently installed during the summer – I was there during early spring, and in Maine that’s still a chili time of year. This is a true find, thank you, Shirley and Dave!

    Deborah2019-04-06T00:00:00Z

  • Shirley and Dave at The Roost are exceptional hosts! They let us check in early as we had a wedding to go to, the Loft apartment where we stayed was immaculately clean and the space had all the necessities in it. They went above and beyond by providing us with directions to our venue location and even made us breakfast in the morning! I would highly recommend staying with Shirley and Dave anytime you are in the area. Thanks again for a wonderful stay!

    Stephanie2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Shirley is an excellent hostess. Her and her husband Dave were very friendly, and accommodating to our needs. We stayed in the efficiency apartment above the garage, called "the loft". Just a great space for a couple people. We were there just two nights so we didn't use the washer and dryer in the apartment, but the full kitchen was very convenient. My wife appreciated the ice dispenser in the full size refrigerator. Sitting area aside of the kitchen had a Large TV. A second TV in the bedroom is a nice touch. The full bathroom is not huge and doesn't have a tub, but makes good use of the space with the shower stall and a closet with the washer and dryer in there. The small deck off of the back is more than just a fire escape. Large enough for a small table and a couple of chairs to sit and enjoy the outdoors and wildlife in the morning or evening. The breakfast part of this B&B is over the top. Shirley made us feel like like we were at a restaurant by serving and attending to us, first by asking what would like and then custom making each our own meal. Starting with a fruit bowl and then a generous portion of just delicious and visually appealing breakfast plates. Then to top it all off we were made to feel like we were good friends invited over to share a breakfast together with easy conversation. Just amazing people to get to know and wonderful hosts. Definitely recommend, but please don't book it for the time we want to be there ;-).

    Tiffany2019-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • Shirley and Dave are amazing hosts. Very friendly and welcoming. The place is amazing and Shirley made is a very special breakfast. We will definitely stay there again when we go back to Maine. Strongly recommend.

Adorable Maine cottage right on Cobbossee Lake with private dock, canoe, kayak, and fishing gear. Flagstone patio with fire pit and grills (both gas and charcoal). Breathtaking views of the lake from every window. Well equipped kitchen, dining room, and two cozy bedrooms with room for seven, including comfy futon in living room. Minutes from Route 95 but a world away.
This is a classic Maine camp. It is airy, light-filled, and spacious, but simple. You'll find everything you need. The bathroom is modest--shower stall, sink, and toilet. We are well stocked with towels, including beach towels, and we have life jackets in a variety of sizes. We have lake drawn water for sinks and showers. We have a filtered water dispenser for drinking water.
Winthrop is a beautiful town dotted with pristine lakes. There's a large grocery store (Hannaford), delicious ice cream shops, and a variety of restaurants nearby. Canoe to the Ladies Delight Lighthouse just across the lake, or visit the Theatre at Monmouth, a Shakespearean Repertory Company. You can be at the ocean, in the mountains, or in Portland in an hour or less.

The Vaughn Woods are located nearby and offer more well groomed walking paths over stone bridges and waterfalls.
  • Valerie's place is charming and unique. She was very responsive and accommodating. Upstairs neighbors were a little noisy late at night but really didn't bother us. Would definitely stay again! Thank you

  • Great place to stay.

    Jaime2018-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really gorgeous and small space. Valerie was quick to answer my questions over text and had some snacks & drinks available upon my arrival. The neighborhood was quiet and well-suited to a reading & writing retreat. The price is steep for such a small space, so although it is lovely, it's not "a great value." Also, it would be best to plan on dining out as the kitchen isn't really set up for cooking meals.

    Jenna2017-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • The carriage house is very lovely. We found the space to be clean and tidy when we arrived. We were greeted with a snacks basket and a fridge stocked with water. The kitchen seemed equipped with whatever you might need and the space is comfortable and very well appointed. The very large shower was a luxury. The house is very close to town, which was filled with a variety of shops and great restaurants.

    Tim2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I loved staying at Valerie's place! It is so beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean! Also, its a really neat experience to stay in a carriage house with many of the original features. My family (husband and young daughter) were attending a nearby gymnastics meet, but we loved Valerie's place so much we would think of returning just to stay in such a nice little "home away from home". This is much nicer and of greater value than the chain hotels in nearby Augusta that were booking at the same price. Also, whoever decorated and designed this place is so gifted! I would pay to have a decorator/designer with such taste decorate my home!

    Elspeth2019-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • Valerie was extremely hospitable, and her Carrige House was the perfect spot for my vacation! The house was clean, modern, and easily accessible from various locations in Hallowell and Augusta. We loved that we could cook full meals, and it really felt like a home away from home. I highly recommend the Carriage House for anyone looking for a homier experience while visiting the area!

    Amanda2018-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at The Carriage House was excellent and just as advertised. If we're ever in the area and in need of accommodations we will definitely be contacting Valerie again!

  • A gorgeous little studio apartment that made this Brooklynite want to move to Maine! Best shower I’ve had in a long time too. Valerie was quick to respond to any questions I had. Great place to be if you want to drive to a nearby lake or wake up and grab a bagel at Bagel Mainea (We had breakfast there three days in a row!) Hope to be back next year for our annual Maine trip!

Hallowell is a small coastal community on a tidal river and estuary. The house is within two blocks of downtown in a quiet residential neighborhood. No steep hills to climb. Many walking and bicycle trails nearby. Vaughn Brook and trails is a short walk up Second Street. The carriage trails are known as "hobbitland," characterized by granite bridges, cascading waterfalls and gurgling brooks. There are also trails around Jamie Pond and the Hallowell Recreation Area where the town beach is located off the town farm road.
  • It’s true that Andrea’s place is close but in a quiet area. You only need to walk 5 minutes to get to eateries or taverns. And if you have a car, there’s plenty of street parking. This is a guest house with history. Ask Andrea about it. The kitchen in this place is incredible! It’s spacious and fully equipped. I didn’t use the gym or the hot tub but they are real. Next time I’ll come prepare to enjoy the extra amenities. The WiFi signal is great. And if you need more than a few days to stay, this is the place to be.

    Lilia2019-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea's place is lovely! I stayed there as a quick layover on a trip en route to Canada, and it was just what I needed. I'd love to return in the future for a longer stay. Andrea's kindness and hospitality are noteworthy!

    Kerry2019-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Andrea's Airbnb in Hallowell was a uniquely pleasant experience. There are four rooms for long-term guests (typically one to three month stays) and three rooms for Airbnb visitors like me (two nights). My room was small but that was fine. Comfortable bed, leather chair, fridge, desk for computer, good internet, bureau, closet and Andrea supplies each guest with a deluxe robe. While there is a shared bathroom next to the room, for showers I used my room's bathroom two floors below in the basement. Shared facilities include hot-tub on the deck, exercise room and laundry in the basement, and a fully equipped kitchen. I particularly enjoyed meeting and chatting with the other guests. The house is just a block from a nice riverside park and the historic Hallowell downtown with numerous restaurants. I am looking forward to my next stay at Andrea's rooming house Airbnb.

A beautiful home, a quiet respite in the woods. A short walk to Maranacook Lake with great swimming, fishing and a canoe for your use. Relax to the calls of the loons and owls from the hot tub amidst the beautiful landscaping and towering pines. All the amenities of home and more.
Ours is a newer, 1200ft2, 3 bedroom home within a short walk to Maranacook Lake. Open layout, granite counters, cherry cabinets, cherry and leather furniture, full basement, 2.5 baths, hot tub on the deck, bamboo flooring, beautiful landscaping, huge white pines and red oaks. Expect quiet, no sounds of traffic..owls in the winter, loons in the summer. There are three swimming spots a three minute walk away, and a great public boat landing 1/2 mile away. In summer you can use the canoe. Sugarloaf and Sunday River are 1.25 hours away, and three of the top 100 public courses in the US are close by, one just 20 minutes. You can't beat the biking. There's a wonderful, eclectic restaurant in town, with great food and drinks, live music and no cover most nights. Your'e 15 minutes from Augusta, the state capital, with shops, restaurants and entertainment. You're 15 minutes from Monmouth Theater, one of the most recognized summer theaters in New England. We look forward to seeing you.
This is a community of year round and summer folks with a laid back, lakeside style yet close to the state capital, great food, hiking, lake swimming, breweries, winter sports and summer concerts. My favorite is the hot tub at night with the loons and the owls calling in the distance. Folks seem to appreciate the functional elegance of the house, the landscaping, access to the lake for swimming and the sense of privacy.... Still with a community nearby.
  • We had an excellent time, the place was fantastic and Joe was an especially communicative host despite being out of the country at the time. We highly recommend staying here!

  • Joe went above and beyond to provide a smooth and relaxing stay! The amenities (hot tub, canoe, kitchen) were amazing and the location next to the lake was the highlight for me. It was perfect for canoeing and swimming and exploring little islands. Joe was also very quick to respond to any questions and provided thoughtful recommendations. Would definitely come back here again!

  • House was in perfect order and a wonderful feel when we came in.

    James2016-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • What can I say, what am amazing home. Joe met us at the house and showed us around. The home was much more beautiful than the pictures showed. Joe had warm Blueberry Muffins waiting for us and they were delicious. Joe has thought of everything and was very gracious allowing us to use just about anything I requested. We had a blast taking the Canoe out on the Maranacook Lake as we strolled by some the small close-by Islands. We enjoyed the hot-tub, played some basketball, and threw the Frisbee around the yard. The beds were super comfortable. There was plenty of space for the 5 of us to hang out in the living room, eat in the dining room, and play cards on the outdoor deck. So, my favorite part and Joe hinted it might be was the outdoor shower. I used it every day! I wish I had one here at my house. There is nothing like showering in the pines, pretty awesome. Joe, we will be back to Maine again and I hope it works out to where we can use your home again. Thanks for sharing a piece of your life with us. You are now part of our story and we yours! Tom

  • Andrea’s place is wonderful! Cozy, clean and she has thought of everything that one might need being away from home!

    Aleah2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Posh, squeaky-clean, cozy antique home right in the heart of Historic Hallowell. Lots of extras I wouldn't expect for the price--luxurious LL Bean bedding, mini fridge in room, hot tub on deck, and state-of-the-art workout room downstairs. Bath was shared with another room, but our thoughtful hostess provided robes (LL Bean again!) for the journey, and once in the bathroom, it was a veritable palace of marble, glass, granite, and modern fixtures. For eats, I highly suggest "Slate's," just around the corner. Baked brie appetizer plate to die for!

    Cathy2018-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea's place exceeded my expectations! It's in a wonderful location, was sparkly clean, and she have amenities I never would have thought of!! The kitchen is well stocked, and Andrea even stopped by on my first day to bring me laundry soap and show me around. I would absolutely stay here again!

    Sarah2018-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Imagine getting a lobster roll at a nearby fish market a short walk away and eating it on a sunny balcony overlooking an expanse of the beautiful Kennebec River and the little town of Hallowell. That was my lunch experience one day during my stay at Andrea's place. Whether you're going to central Maine for business or pleasure, stay here! You can't go wrong. The rooms are cozy and comfortable and include all you could need for a great night's sleep. The public areas... (kitchen, dining, entertainment lounge, exercise room) are welcoming and fully equipped with anything you could need. AND the place is spotless!! One of the best Airbnb places I've stayed!

    Betsy2019-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • Just wow! The comfy bed, the room amenities, the beautiful shared spaces, all were welcomed by these weary travelers. My husband was especially appreciative of our room’s comfy reading chair and the nice bright light to read by. Getting in and out was easy, and the other guests, friendly. Will definitely be back!

    Grace2019-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful place to stay! I highly recommend. The house is beautiful, clean, and comfortable. Andrea puts a lot of effort into the smallest details! Great location, too! The house is walking distance to all the adorable shops and restaurants in Hallowell.

    Susy2018-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • In awe! Andrea thought of everything to create a home for long-term stays - a white noise machine to muffle out noise, eye mask, luggage rack, clear house rules and labels for everyone. There were several others renting in the Airbnb, and I appreciated being able to start off the morning alone since my room had its own ironing board, TV, and coffee maker. Common areas like the kitchen and media room are cozy and inviting. The amenities are unparalleled - full gym in the basement, washer and dryer, balcony overlooking the river, kitchen appliances from a toaster over to an air fryer, even a bathrobe! I only wish I had stayed longer to enjoy the hot tub, bikes, and kayaks. The location is one block away from the main street with bars, restaurants, and shops. I would love to return for a relaxing week. Thank you for going over and beyond, Andrea!
