Great place to stay!

Comfortable, quiet stay on a very peaceful small lake. Had fun using the paddleboat and enjoying the outdoor deck and grill. Hosts were very accommodating, and even made up a bonfire for us each night. I would recommend !

we thoroughly enjoyed our week. The house was spacious for our group (a Family reunion) and we felt so relaxed. There was a firepit on property that we never did get a chance to use but hopefully will on a future visit. I highly recommend Lawrence's Lakeside Retreat as the property was spacious, comfortable and perfect for our needs.

The Mermaid Cottage is cozy, comfortable, beautifully decorated and well-equipped with all the essentials. We loved the location—walkable to the beach, restaurants, historical sites, etc. Grand Marais is a fun, quaint little town with quite a bit to offer for its size. We enjoyed a campfire on the beach and were lucky to find a couple of ‘Yooperlites’! We loved the Dream Bean for coffee and breakfast pasties, which we purchased frozen the day before an early morning kayak tour from Munising. We also recommend the West End Diner for pasties and Lake Superior Brewing Co for pizza. It was a perfect location for exploring the Pictured Rocks and within reasonable driving distance to sites such as Tahquamenon Falls and the Oswald Bear Farm. We’d love to visit Grand Marais again and stay at the Mermaid Cottage!

Our group had a great weekend getaway! The house was perfect! We enjoyed visiting our kids at NMU and did some hiking and took in a football/volleyball game on campus. We also enjoyed playing cards and the great fire pit. Penny was easy to work with and the house was very clean and cozy. Great location.

Pictures did not do this place justice! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great getaway with short drives to Pictured Rocks and Waterfall Hikes!!

Our stay was everything we had hoped for and more. It was the perfect retreat our family needed. The house was spacious, clean and had everything we could need to make our stay comfortable. The private beach is beautiful and peaceful. We would definitely stay again. Thank you Monica and family for sharing your home to us!!

Overall, I give Bob and Linda’s lodge 5/5. It was exactly what I was looking for: an authentic off-grid UP experience. It’s clean and homey, and Bob and Linda are top notch hosts, going out of their way to make your stay a good one. If you’re looking for a great off-grid experience, this is it. However, it may not be for everyone. For example, we visited in October, and we had to heat the lodge through fireplaces as there is no central heating. I personally enjoyed that but can imagine others not wanting to deal with it. The lodge has an open concept floor plan, and I recommend guests consider sleeping arrangements carefully. While there are a ton of beds, there are few doors, and most sleeping areas don’t have one. So it may not be the best if you have people going to bed or waking up at different times.
