Cottage vacation rentals in Shenandoah Valley

Beautiful spot close to wineries but feels private and peaceful. We really enjoyed all that Afton had to offer.

This house is a gem! The location allows for privacy and great hikes while still being close enough to Luray and Sperryville for restaurants and activities. I’d absolutely return. The house was clean and as advertised. The hosts were very responsive! The creek on the property was such a lovely feature. The only note I’d like to make is the area must have had a lot of rain right before our visit. To access the house, you drive over a very small concrete bridge over the creek. When we arrived the water was over the bridge, and probably 5 or so inches at its deepest. We had a sedan and weren’t comfortable driving over. Jerry quickly gave us alternate directions, so all in all in worked out and provided some excitement :). But if there’s been a lot of rain and you have a low car, be aware!

Can’t recommend the Firefly Cellars cottage enough! My husband and I biked the Washington and Old Dominion trail out from DC (you can also take the Silver Line part way for a shorter ride), stayed overnight and biked back the next day. The cottage had everything we wanted after a long day biking (tasting at the winery, a fire pit, a hot tub) as well as just being a lovely place to spend a night. Everyone working at the tasting room was awesome and Andrea in particular was super responsive to my questions— mainly about whether this was a feasible trip without a car (it is!). Can’t wait to come back!

Secluded, comfortable home. We found it easily and felt like it was our home right away. We enjoyed the hot tub after day hiking to the waterfalls that were recommended by our friendly host. The homes interior design and color scheme were appealing and we would encourage anyone looking for a unique, hidden retreat to stay here.

The river is beautiful and the location is so quiet and private. We were able to see the bald eagle and catch fish, etc. Highly recommend if you want a weekend in nature and just time to relax and unwind!

10/10 will book again! Dolly was an excellent host and the space was spotless, stylish, and stocked with thoughtful touches that made it feel just like home. The bed? Like sleeping on a cloud. The kitchen? Fully equipped. And the location? Perfect – close to everything, but quiet enough for a peaceful night’s rest. I needed to be close to Winchester but also wanted privacy and to be out of the city so my dogs would be more comfortable. It was perfect. The outdoor space was top notch and my dogs were so happy to run around off leash in the fenced in back yard. But what really set this experience apart was the host. Dolly was unbelievably responsive, kind, and helpful. There was clearly a lot of time and effort put into making the stay as enjoyable and stress-free as possible for the guests.

Karma is real, so I must share this true GEM with the world. This was a bday getaway for my wife and I with our pup. I WIN BEST Husband of the Year because of Frank's Pond Cottage. I gave her the gift of her very own waterfall.. Beautiful luxury in hidden away by the Shenandoah. We were able to UberEats while also having an Uber take us to Element. Great food. Frank and team recommended horseback riding, did that too, MUST DO SO! We will be back and already have plans for next trip. Run DON'T WALK to spend time at this wonderful retreat.

Amazing, immaculate property, peaceful setting, thoughtful hosts! The mountain cottage exceeded our expectations. The home looks exactly like the photos and has all of the amenities. No surprises, no builders grade junky stuff - granite countertops, new appliances, upgraded cabinetry with soft close drawers, large tiled shower with built in bench seat, lighted closets, working blinds, no step access into and through out the home. You walk in to find a welcome basket of water and snacks with a card from hosts. There are books for appliances if needed and a book that provides needed information and options for dining and recreation. Feels private! We had beautiful bird song in the mornings, saw a deer at the end of the driveway and many deer on the roads to the cottage. There is a fishing pond within a half mile and the North fork of the Shenandoah is close by. We enjoyed the peace, nature, cruising Skyline Drive and time with our family. Cozy, adorable little cottage close to downtown! It has everything you need for a short or long stay, and plenty of room for a doggo. Amazing shower and cozy bed! Only ‘complaint,’ which is not even one, is that it got chilly inside at night and the heater was a bit difficult to use to raise the heat. Overall a wonderful weekend stay!

We had a wonderful time with our dog and two little ones. The owner’s dogs were friendly. The owners were great with communicating. The house was very clean and cozy. I loved all the details in the decor. We had everything we needed to be comfortable. We loved our dinner cooked over the fire pit. The description let us know what to expect with the passing trains & it was just fine. The location is simply stunning. Sooooo picturesque, quiet, and peaceful. Thanks for the cozy family memories!

Stayed here for a couple nights for the purpose of celebrating an anniversary and riding bicycles. It’s a great location that’s close enough to Charlottesville but also far enough away that it’s quiet and peaceful. Sidenote, if you’re into Cycling, then it’s a great jump off location.

Eli’s place was comfortable, clean and cozy! The kitchen was well appointed, everything we needed was there. The space is filled with interesting books and art for all to enjoy. The surrounding grounds were private, beautiful and dog-friendly. It is convenient to UVA medical sites. We would gladly stay again!

We had a very enjoyable stay at Amy’s Place. Billy & Margrit are great hosts and their beautiful property surrounds the cottage and huge fenced yard. The covered porches were so peaceful and tranquil that we spent much of our time outside listening to the trees full of birds. We really got a kick out of seeing the family of geese & goslings wandering around by the lovely pond. Access to Shenandoah Park was easy, as well as to hikes, hamlets, villages & breweries in the valleys and hills near by. When we return to the area, we hope to stay again at Amy’s Cottage!

This was a perfect place for a peaceful getaway. The fireplace was a treat, and we had a very cozy stay. It's hard to add to what other reviewers have already said, but here is one detail: on a winter's night, when the moon is down and the sky is clear, the stars are fantastic! Because there is no nearby light pollution, the view from the deck of the night sky is deep and brilliant.

Very cool spot. Rustic, truly a farm cottage. Very clean. Would stay here again, no question.

With its large picture windows and lovely stone porch, this home is the perfect place for relaxing and enjoying the views down to Goose Creek and the meadow below. We enjoyed watching the geese, groundhogs, herons, and deer and at night hearing the frogs. This is a perfect getaway for anyone looking for peace, privacy, and a natural setting. And for those who like fine dining, shopping, and historical/cultural venues, the town of Middleburg is a seven minute drive away.

This is the third year we’ve come back to the Gatekeeper Cottage and it’s just as wonderful as always, Adrianne and Brick are very friendly hosts! We hope to come back again in the summer even if just for a day to enjoy the house in another season. Thank you again for having us back!

We absolutely loved our stay at the cozy cottage! Upon arrival, we were greeted with a sweet personal note that made us feel right at home. The location is stunning, and we wish we could have explored the trails, but the weather and our other commitments kept us busy. We can’t wait to come back and enjoy everything this beautiful place has to offer!

From the moment we walked through the door we felt like we were in a home away from home. The coziest welcoming enveloping us in and drawing us closer. The decor was beautiful, the design stunning, the paint. colors magical and it just felt so cozy. My three year old loved the swing in the room (such a novelty) and the kitchen was easy to cook in. We wanted to box the house up and take it with us. The beds were cozy and warm and we loved all the extra blankets (and heaters) during the cold season. Thank you for creating such a welcoming space.

An adorable little cottage for a weekend getaway in the mountains! The bed is comfortable, the kitchen has all the essentials and the host baked fresh muffins to welcome us. Clear instructions in the welcome packet and around the appliances. The screened in porch is perfect for enjoying the vineyard views. Close by national and state parks and a bustling walkable downtown.

What an absolute gem. Great space for exploring Crozet and Miller School. The yard was incredible and felt like we were all alone even though there are parks and houses nearby. Great kitchen and bed. Exactly what we wanted.

This is such an idyllic place to stay! The cottage is so cozy and quaint, and you can watch the horses and admire the views from several spots. The amenities were thoughtful and above and beyond any airbnb I’ve stayed in (farm fresh eggs included!) There are adorable pup greeters (always a bonus). We were here for a wedding so were very busy, but absolutely plan to return for a quieter weekend for hiking, wineries, and enjoying the fire pit.
