Places to stay in Hawi

Places to stay in Hawi
Available for a 3 month rental May 31 - September 1 ... Savor a piece of old Hawaii in a creatively restored historical plantation home, nestled in a garden sanctuary in downtown Hawi (Big Island). Walk to the banyan tree park, delicious restaurants, cafe, kava bar, farmers market, shops and galleries, yoga and dance classes, live music, zipline tours, neighborhoods with beautiful views... and more! You will love Kohala for its epic natural beauty, quirky artistic charm and friendly community.
Tucked away in the heart of Hawi is a little garden sanctuary, right around the corner from the bustling main street: a 75 year old historical plantation home artfully decorated with vintage and upcycled furnishings that hearken back to long ago Hawaii. Perfect for travelers who want to stay in an affordable, central location, this is a great home base for exploring the wonders of the north side of the Big Island. *** Please read entire description and all House Rules before booking. Thank you! *** Your private guest suite is a one bedroom apartment on the first floor of my house which is also a massage business called Pure Bliss. If you are interested in booking a massage while you are visiting, just let me know! Walk through the garden courtyard, past the bamboo gate, and step into a magickal world filled with eclectic art and strange treasures from the past (please leave shoes outside: Hawaiian style!). Inside the red door (your private entrance), you will find yourself in the Living + Dining Room, with plush chairs for enjoying your complimentary morning tea and/or coffee, a bar with barstools overlooking the Kitchenette, and a corner desk and chair (if you absolutely must do computer work on your vacation...). Around the corner and down the hall of mirrors is your Bedroom, small and cozy, furnished with a full size bed and super comfortable memory foam mattress. The bed is perfect for solo travelers and couples who are smaller people (larger people like me {I'm 6'1"} may feel that the double bed is a little too small to share). A big closet has plenty of hangers, extra towels and sheets and pillows and a blanket and luggage racks. Complimentary earplugs are provided for light sleepers, as this is an early rising town (roosters and road noise start around 5am). The Kitchenette has everything you need to make your own meals: a hot plate, toaster oven and regular toaster, blender, coffee maker and grinder, electric kettle, dishes and cooking utensils, and is stocked with coffee and a variety of teas. The spacious Restroom is located through a bizarrely small Alice-in-Wonderland door in the Kitchen. There is a shower with a mosaic floor and gemstones embedded in the center for a foot shiatsu experience. Unscented Dr. Bronners soap is provided for your washing pleasure. There is a full size refrigerator/freezer right outside the front door. Help yourself to any food and condiments in there, and feel free to feed the cat if she's around (her full name is Cheshire Popoki A Me Okole Pokole Grayboy). She's a free agent, belonging to no one but loved by all. She knows how to work the system and has different names at the different homes she visits... The laundry washer and dryer are also outside, which are shared with me and sometimes my friends. If you want to use the laundry facilities, please put a $5 donation per load in the Honor Jar (to help pay for soap, propane, and electricity). Yes, this house is very old and somewhat shabby and kinda dirty and you will probably see some bugs (ants and mosquitoes and garden spiders for sure, possibly roaches and millipedes, and if you're lucky - a giant cane spider or the infamous centipede). Most of the Hawaiian insects are harmless and fascinating. Welcome to the tropics! Paradise is a state of mind. THINGS TO KNOW: NOISE My house is located in the MIDDLE OF DOWNTOWN, which is perfect for being close to all the action, but not a very peaceful place (although it usually quiets down between 10pm - 5am). The guest room is on the first floor of the house. It is an old plantation-style house (single wall construction). I have a massage business upstairs, I live upstairs, and neighbor's houses are nearby. We generally try to be respectful of each other, tread lightly, and be conscious of our noise emanations. Well, most of us, that is... Across the street lives Randy the Rooster, and Randy Jr., and Uncle Randy, and Grandpa Randy, and Baby Randy, and...... Randy loves his hens and he loooves his home under the mango tree, and he looooves to tell the whole neighborhood about it VERY loudly at ALL times of the day and night. If you listen carefully, you can hear the roosters in different parts of the neighborhood calling back and forth, declaring their territory (Randy always crows first, of course). And likewise, please refrain from having loud cell phone conversations in the garden or driveway, as your voice can be clearly heard inside my waiting room and massage office. SMELLS My home is a CHEMICAL FRAGRANCE FREE HOME. I am in love with aromatherapy and make botanical body care products and perfumes, and have a very sensitive sense of smell. It is a blessing and a curse. I am transported to heaven by the scent of a flower, while nauseated by synthetic fragrances and chemical smells. Before you come stay in my home, pleeeeeease check the ingredients and make sure your body care products don't contain synthetic chemical fragrances ("Fragrance" or "Parfum"). I will smell you from 10 feet away and awkwardly have to ask you not to use chemical fragrances in my house. *** Note: 100% BOTANICAL extracts and essential oils are totally OKAY! Please use them generously! I do!!*** I also have a large collection of essential oils, and would be happy to formulate a personalized aromatherapy mist, perfume, potion, or body oil for you. Please no smoking of cigarettes or marijuana on my property (you can easily walk right across the street and stand under the banyan tree if you need to smoke), and please no burning incense or scented candles (white sage is okay). Smoke rises (it's a fact) and pours right into my windows upstairs. WORK TRADE I offer a work trade option for guests staying 3 nights or longer. It will be mainly cleaning and yard care. I pay $15 per hour for 2 hours per day. If you are interested in this option, let me know and I'll send you the details. MY HOME I am one woman running a business and a household by myself. If there's anything you need, if you have any questions / comments / concerns, please talk to me directly before writing something about me in your review... I'm doing my best here, and it takes a lot of energy to share my home with you. My home is NOT a hotel. My home is NOT a vacation rental. I am NOT your maid or your mother or your personal concierge... I am your friend. As a friend, we treat each other with kindness and respect, and I expect you to treat my home as you would your own and help clean up after yourself. Mahalo! Also, my art studio and storage room are located downstairs, and some of my botanical creation supplies are stored in the kitchen. I may need to get things from downstairs sometimes, but I will ask you first when would be a good time to do so. I respect your privacy. VACATION RENTALS The greedy state of Hawaii charges an additional 10.25% "transient accommodations tax" on top of the 4.5% "general excise tax" to business owners, simply for the "privilege" of conducting business here. And now, increased regulations are shutting down small business owners and penalizing individuals in favor of big hotel corporations, which also makes everything more expensive for you, my friend. I refuse to participate in this unjust system of excessive taxation and regulations enacted by a government which has been illegally occupying the Kingdom of Hawai'i since the U.S. military overthrow in 1893 (there's your history lesson for today). Therefore, by completing this booking, you agree: (1) You are my friend visiting from out of town. (2) My home is not a vacation rental, nor is it a "transient accommodation". (2) Your AirBnB payment is a DONATION which goes entirely to help with the cost of rent and utilities, and I make zero money from your stay. Zero. Zip. Nada. Thanks for reading!
Hawi is the best little town on the island! My most favorite thing is the Farmers Market across the street under the banyan trees on Saturday mornings. There are fabulous places to dine and shop, and plenty of art to see here. The Kohala Village Hub offers many types of classes and events, and you can sometimes find live music and fun events at different venues on the weekends. This is a nice neighborhood for walking around, with an abundance of beautiful views and interesting people. DESTINATIONS There are many gorgeous places to swim and hike, just a short scenic drive (approximate driving times) in either direction: * Kapaa (10 minutes west) * Mahukona (15 minutes west) * Lapakahi (15 minutes west) * Keokea (20 minutes east) * Pololu Valley (30 minutes east) * Spencer Beach (30 minutes west) * Hapuna Beach (35 minutes west) And more! ... HIGHLIGHTS * Art: If you like art, bunches of galleries and shops are within 2 blocks. Kapa'au (the next town east) also has some interesting spots to check out, including the Artist Co-Op. * Cuisine: My favorite restaurant is Sushi Rock. If you prefer vegan fare, try the Sweet Potato Kitchen for lunch. For a good selection of locally grown delights, go to the Kohala Grown market. * Music and Dancing: Friday nights there's usually something interesting happening at the Kava Bar. The 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 7pm there's Ecstatic Dance at the Hub Barn, Bellydance class on Tuesday nights, and other classes throughout the week. Check the Kohala Village Hub calendar of events online for the upcoming schedule. Some Sunday mornings there are musicians playing at the Kohala Coffee Mill, and music Saturday mornings at the Farmers Market.
  • Rebecca created a very unique and interesting space within an older building. I wanted to stay longer, just to experience its creativity.

    Dawn2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Rebecca's places is full of thoughtful & homemade touches, and brims over with character from its former days as a plantation house. It couldn't be in a better location for exploring Hawi and the Kohala area of the Big Island; a real gem.

    Micah2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Rebecca's place is perfectly situated in Hawi and a good spot if you are looking to explore the North. She is a responsive host who is very nice and offers local tips. Her 'garden sanctuary' has a cool vibe with lots of positive energy. I would highly recommend staying here!

    Anthony2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • This place is bigger than it looks! Such an amazing space and Hawi town is super cute. Two minute walk to everything (restaurants, coffee). Great experience, and even better for the price!

    Melissa2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Sweet and easy apartment in an equally sweet town. Rebecca is a wonderful host and makes everything simple and accessible. She has very helpful recommendations for things to do in the area, and she’s also a fantastic massage therapist!

    Aila2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • This Airbnb experience has been the highlight of dozens and dozens! STAY HERE. BE FREE. BE YOU. Experience Hawi for all that it has to offer and if you get chance to connect with this Goddess of a host, do it. This place is the real deal folks.

    Megan2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Convenient funky little space right in main part of Hawi.

    David2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • An excellent down home Hawaii getaway! Quaint, accessible and the real deal. Everything is within walking distance in the area. Several great spots for sunsets and beaches nearby. READ THE DESCRIPTION! Rebecca has taken the time to let people know what to expect without any surprises...including Randy and his ruckus rooster family awakening early every morning. This is a great spot with lots of charm and amenities within and close by.

Aloha, We just changed this ad on 4/21/20 and are trying to adapt to the current conditions we are all dealing with. This is a different approach doing month to month as the state isn't allowing short term visitors. So there may be some things we can adjust on a per case basis so please message us if your interested and have any concerns.
The spacious 2 bedroom 1 bath has beautiful tile floors and marble tops in the kitchen. The interior was just completely repainted inside and furniture updated with high end queen and king mattress as well as a new sofa and chairs. Sofa has a pull out bed. High speed internet is included with a nice desk for work or play. Big screen smart tv for streaming your favorite shows and video games. Home is completely surrounded by tall hedges and trees for a private tropical and peaceful stay. Enjoy fresh coconut, papaya, and other fruit when in season. We are located walking distance to Hawi town, fresh market on the weekends, and local restaurants.
Historic Hawi is a popular destination for visitors with art galleries, shops, and restaurants walking distance from our house. We are on the best part of the island for viewing whales. Drive a short distance to many hiking spots such as Pololu that has a black sand beach and one of the most beautiful and lush spots on our island. Enjoy local fruits, vegetables, and crafts at the weekend farmers market and many many other options for a memorable visit.
  • Great spot in Hawi. There were towls, an umbrella, cooler, and games to use. The cat was supper cool. We liked having stainless steel pots to use.

    Jason2020-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay here! In a cute little town with pretty easy access to the rest of the island. Gorgeous area and we really enjoyed the drive from Hilo to Hawi as we road tripped around the island. Hosts were extremely accommodating and the house was clean and well appointed. We loved the neighborhood calico cat! There are some roosters in the area but earplugs make it no problem at all. Beds are comfortable. Would stay again!

  • Mike and Charlotte have an incredible property, fabulous hospitality and my personal favorite, a super sweet (strictly outdoor) kitty! Every detail was accounted for: fresh cut flowers, costco size shampoo/conditioner/body wash, coffee pot, board games, cooking utensils, tupperwares, SNORKELS AND BODY BOARDS!!! WHAA! Mike was so awesome at helping us find the best places to see the sunset and the best time of day to go to certain places so they weren't too touristy. We loved staying in Hawi, there's lots of cute shops, convenience marts, a post office and zip lining tour spot right nearby. There's an access to the west side of the 5 sister's, of which Waipio Valley is the easternmost part--we originally picked this spot because of the proximity to Waipio. If you don't mind about an hours drive you can easily get into Kona, Waimea and other more magical places off the beaten track. Loved that when we got back after sunset Mike left the porch light on for us. (PS this property easily sleeps 6; 2 queens, day bed and a couch)

    Phillip2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect place for a stay on the north side of the Island. It was clean, quiet and comfortable. Michael was helpful and provided information with activities and beaches. He even escorted us to a location that had a awesome view of the ocean. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this property. You won’t be disappointed.

  • What a great space. We enjoyed our stay so very much. It’s in such a quaint town and the location is perfect

  • Host are very thoughtful and kind. Very quick to respond to request. House was beautiful and extremely clean. I would stay here again.

  • Our family really enjoyed our stay here. It is peaceful and cosy. Beds are comfortable and the place has nice thoughtful and modern touch. Fully functional kitchen and laundry with dryer is great! Michael gave us useful tips and we had a good time with the family exploring the beaches. 👍🏻

Our private Ohana is situated in a residential cul-de-sac; walking distance to Hawi Town on the north tip of Hawaii Island. Cool temps range in the 70s and low 80s throughout the year. Hawi features great restaurants, coffee shops, gift shops and galleries. Located close to Pololu Valley & the King Kamehameha statue. Our comfortable cottage is most suitable for 2 adults. The hosts welcome folks of all backgrounds. English and German are spoken. Tax ID#: GE-070-926-4384-01 TA-070-926-4384-01
The space is very efficient offering privacy. Sleeping arrangements include a queen sized bed with Tempur-pedic Mattress and 4 pillows of differing densities. Our efficient kitchen has a full size sink, single induction hot plate with cookware, microwave, coffeemaker, French press and full size dorm refrigerator.
Hawi is located on the far north section of the Island of Hawai'i. Most would agree, we are somewhat isolated from other towns, (Waimea 30 mins., Kona 55mins., Hilo 2hrs.). We do have beautiful hiking and swimming areas close by and convenient. Our little ohana cottage is located in a residential cul-de-sac within walking distance to Hawi Town.
  • Brian and Nanette are such friendly and welcoming hosts! The space was spotless and well-organized. We loved the restaurant recommendations, the patio, and watching the birds. We would definitely stay here again! Lovely cottage!

    Sara2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great value and great location in charming downtown Hawi. Walking distance to fun restaurants, shops and farmers market. Close drive to breathtaking views of beach cliffs (Pololu Valley). The hosts are amazing people and make you feel right at home. The tiny house had everything we needed and including a private porch, perfect place to wind down after a long day.

    Juliet2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic hosts, comfortable bed, cute little cottage, close to beach’s & jungle. Great patio to have coffee on and watch the birds. Really good restaurants with a 10 minute walk to town. Highly recommended!

    Mike2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Brian and Nannete and sweet Kloie dog are amazing hosts. They have thought of EVERYTHING you can imagine. The cottage is so sweet. Whimsical touches like the chandelier and clock from bicycle parts to first aid to bird seed so you can watch birds to earplugs if waking to birdsong isn’t your thing. Kitchen has everything you could possibly need. Sweet chocolates on the pillows and fresh rolls for breakfast.

    Becca2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • A super sweet little cottage. Perfect for myself as a single traveler. Hosts were very welcoming, attentive, and clearly thoughtful in all the details, from the personalized welcome sign to the super organized layout of the space. Very comfortable mattress. Quiet yet close to Hawi center. I would definitely stay here again.

    Hilary2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is very nice and quiet. Perfect to visit that part of the island and Brian is very welcoming. He left us some food for the birds in the morning and we could watch them while having a coffee outside, a treat! Hawi is a nice little place and there is a lot to do around.

    Corine2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We rolled up with the card were immediately greeted by a fun little sign with our names on it welcoming us to the property. Parking was easy. Close access to town. Lots of nice little touches like a cooler, lunch chairs and walking sticks. The property is very private. It backs on the course did ravine. They even supplied birdseed which attracts many colourful winged customers. The Wi-Fi is quite spotty. The owners are aware of this problem and are looking into it. We enjoyed the private covered lanai at the back of the cottage. There is no air conditioning but none is required with the constant tropical breeze blowing through the windows. Thanks Brian and Nanette for a wonderful stay.

    Peter2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I were on the Big Island for 12 days, and our last 6 days at Hawi were our favorite time by far. From the lovely hand-written sign welcoming us, to our friendly farewell at the end, we enjoyed every minute. Hawi is a lovely little town, just the right size for exploring by foot, with wonderful shops and restaurants (we were lucky to eat at the Bamboo In twice and at Rock Sushi twice). Brian and Nanette provided the perfect amenities such as comfortable beach chairs, and boogie boards and snorkeling equipment for a great beach experience. The closest beaches are about 25 minutes away but the drive is lovely and the beaches were fantastic. The petroglyph site is not to be missed. The cottage was small but had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. A special touch was that they provided bird seed so we could feed the birds each morning on the lovely private lanai that overlooks a gulch with a forest of trees on the other side. We "bonded with the local birds" as they flew in expectantly when they saw us come out with our coffee . We enjoyed coffee in the morning and happy hour every evening on the lanai. We hope to be back again soon and this time we will probably stay the whole time with Brian and Nanette if possible. Thank you for everything Brian and Nanette!

This space is freshly remodeled and has an amazing feel and presence. It is ornately decorated with affirmative art and all furnishings are of a good quality so guests feel the love of the islands put into each space. Hardwood floors, covered deck with great dining and lounging furniture, tiled bathroom, all new appliances and a three burner outdoor cooktop for exterior dining pleasure. We take great pride in creating these spaces and know that each of our guests feel as blessed as we do.
We offer privacy and also provide an opportunity for folks to pick their own fruit from trees, or to harvest garden vegetables. We have a wide arrangement of produce growing and any number of items could be ready for harvest when you arrive. This unit is for couples and singles possibly with child.
  • We stayed on Les Farm which for us was more like a sanctuary. Waking up in the mornings to a whole choir of different colourful birds and the ocean view with Haleakalā emerging in the background was more than a delight. We were always offered fruit from the farm, such as tangerines or papayas, different kinds of vegetables such as eggplant, beetroots and carrots and the best thing of all fresh eggs from happy chickens. The apartment we stayed in has a spacious lanai, the bed is comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need and the bathroom is in great condition. All in all we can highly recommend the cute town of Hāwī in the north of Hawai'i. It's nice and quiet, the people are friendly and it's very well connected. Famous walks such as the Pololu Valley Lookout are just around the corner and driving to Kona and to the more frequented beaches on the west side aren't too far either. We will definitely return. Thank you plenty!

    Timothy2020-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great location on his farmland property. The apartment was well decorated with a great and functional layout. It was nice having all that we needed to cook breakfast and enjoy it on the second floor lanai. Rev Les was a great host, Mahalo!

    Janice2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great accommodation for your stay in Kohala. Rev. Les is a great host who communicates clearly. The property is beautiful and clean.

  • The place is clean, very well equipped and we had a very pleasant stay.Nice views and a nice lanai to hang out on!Thankfully, the folks that rented below us were quiet which had they been noisy might have been an issue.I would recommend staying here

    Deborah And Michael2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a super peaceful & relaxing stay at Rev. Les' place! We stayed in the upper suite for 2 nights and really enjoyed the beautiful views and amenities. The place was set up nicely and we had everything we needed. Hawi is a cute small town with everything you need - and it's just a short walk away if you feel like having a stroll :) We really enjoyed the location for exploring the norhern part of Big Island - the surrounding area is gorgeous. The drive towards Waimea is incredibly scenic. Some guests have mentioned critters/bugs etc. Just don't leave food out and you'll be fine. After all, you're staying at a farm in the countryside! If you're expecting a sterile environment, then you're better off in a city. We loved being so close to nature.

    Ann Margit2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Peace and quiet, close to Hawi. Great decor. Good view of Maui. Very nice experience!

    Karen2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place on the island, especially if you like the music of nature. We loved sitting in the large balcony, listening to the nature and viewing the island of Maui, which seems to be so close on a clear day. The accommodations inside are great, everything is clean and we had all we needed for the length of our stay. We will come back if this location is available the next time.

    Angela2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a nice and spacious place to stay when exploring the northern parts of the Big Island. Rev. Les responded quickly to communications. When we arrived, he offered fruits and vegetables that were in season at the farm. The location was very peaceful and it was convenient to Hawi, a wonderful little town.

  • We had a great stay in Hawi. The cottage is about one hour drive from the airport Kona and is located in the north of the island.

    Manuela2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Nice cozy cottage that has been renovated. It was a former plantation managers home on a former sugar plantation. They is a full kitchen if you feel like doing extensive cooking while you are visiting.

    Debra2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute place and Keely was an amazing host quick to respond and super nice!!

    Kathy2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • I highly recommend this cottage in Hawi. The space is simple and cozy, and although on the small side, feels spacious due to the cathedral ceilings. The location is fantastic, right in town but set back on the grounds of the most beautiful Hawaiian plantation estate. The pool is large and was unoccupied for most of our visit, and the temperature was perfect. There are other people living/staying on the grounds and everyone was friendly, laid back, and respected our privacy. Keely was communicative and easily reached, but didn’t invade our space at all. I will recommend this beautiful laid back piece of old Hawaii to everyone I know.

    Germaine2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place in the cutest town ever! We could pick papaya right off the tree and have it the next day to eat, our hosts were so kind! We didn’t get to talk to them much because we were in and out but this place was so great. Definitely keep all of the windows open, up north they have a perfect mountain breeze that is a perfect sleeping temperature. Everything was very clean and we were comfortable the whole time. Definitely stay here a few nights!

    Mark2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Keely provided us a space in North Kohala that was completely pristine and located right off the main avenue of Hawi. Providing premium coffee was a generous touch that I fully enjoyed, and all around this space is organized well to be fully functional so you can live here for your stay. Thanks for the hospitality!

    Miles2019-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely country setting, walking to the beautiful cottage studio... Breathtaking! More than I expected in amenities. And everything you think you need!

    Mary2019-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this cottage- it’s vintage plantation touches, wood floors, slate green tile bath, and beautiful curtains. The pool is great and private. The location is wonderful—walking up the alley to the small downtown cafes and grocery. We especially love the giant bamboo grove and tropical gardens surrounding this cottage. It’s set back from the main house, which adds to the privacy and cozyness. We can’t wait to return to this sweet oasis in Hawi!✨

  • A beautiful spot. It has everything you will need; a little kitchen, a comfortable bed, beach necessities like a beach chair and towels, a simple setup with a mini fridge and a hot plate and a microwave as well as a good bathroom with all of those necessities. And close to some cute simple shops and King Kamehameha statue and a little over and hour drive to Kailua-Kona. It was a wonderful place to stay. I would definitely stay here again if I had the opportunity.

  • Both Jocelyn and her space were outstanding. It was very clean, spacious and affordable. I would highly recommend this property especially to visitors wanting to explore the north part of the a Island and small local galleries and restaurants.

    Gill2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Jocelyn's place was clean, cute, and a fantastic deal for the price. It's a garage that has been converted into a studio, with a separate bath/shower combo located right outside the unit. The place is thoughtfully decorated with a cute kitchenette and comfortable furnishings, and located within walking distance of shops and restaurants. One thing to note: there's no A/C in the unit, so it can get stuffy. However, there is a ceiling and standing fan, which helped a lot. The host was also very responsive, and check in was simple and easy with a lockbox.

    Alicia2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • very good. The night was quiet and I could sleep well. I like sunny side up, fried eggs. If there was a fry pan, it's perfect. Jocelyn is very kind and friendly. She brought oil and boiled egg cases. Thank you.

    Hajime2019-12-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had some very nice days in the studio of Jocelyn. The design is really cool, you have everything you need and the it has a good location for different day trips.

    Marie Theres2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very chic and lightning clean room with everything you need. Very well equipped kitchen, good location to discover the north of the island.

Here is a great opportunity to see, hike and enjoy the Waipio Valley. The rustic one bedroom one bath Ohana attached the the Wapio Valley Art Gallery gives you the opportunity to check out their wonderful souvenirs, book all the activities.
This rental gives you the opportunity to save some money but be in a comfortable safe one bedroom one bath rental and spend some of your hard earned bucks on all the various tours at a discount for staying in this rental.
The quaint Village was once a Sugar Care area where families lived, loved and harvested the cane. Some of those family still live there today.
  • Peace & tranquility

    Talmadge2020-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • Rustic is accurate, but this place is super convenient, tidy, clean & even has WiFi & Roku. Which, you really should only need if it’s a deluge. I would recommend this place, especially if you are looking to hike the Waimanu trail and need a place to stay before and/or after 👌🏻.

    Mary2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This little bungalow had a 70s vintage vibe, we loved it! Nice to have a kitchen, bathroom and shower all in one! We went on the Waipio valley tour provided by the gallery, it far exceeded our expectations🙌👌👏. The tour takes you into this magical valley only 4wd vehicles can roam, the tour also takes you past where hikers are allowed to explore. Our guide kalenai was super phenomenal, highly recommend! We loved this little town and the farmers markets are near in town and also in Waimea. Comfy bed, hot water, much kindness from the locals 👏🙌🌈🏝

    Kari2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great value, cosy and sweet. Taking a quiet walk at sunrise to the Waipio Valley Lookout was lovely. We look forward to returning.

    Sequoia2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • We were cycling the island and wanted a place to regroup. We didn’t need external amenities - just a quiet place to hang out. We also wanted to explore Waipio Valley without being rushed. Bill’s place more that met our requirements. The ladies at the art gallery were so sweet and the availability of a morning coffee was a welcome treat. Bill was always attentive and most welcoming. You can’t go wrong with this place!

    George2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is a gem of a place. Pictures don’t do it justice. It’s a good size private and comfortable...a stones throw from the beautiful waipio valley and just behind an art store that sells finely crafted local art and jewelry. The town of Honoka’a is close for night outings. Great place to stay!!!

    Dawn2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, clean, with everything we needed for our stay. Bill was an excellent host.

    Russell2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was cozy and Bill was easy to communicate with. Recommend for a trip to Waipio Valley and Hilo area.

ALOHA nui loa Kahuna nui hale kealohalani makua Hale Makua (Love all you see, including yourself.) We welcome you at Hawi Hideaway Farm and hope your stay is one you will cherish & remember. "Clean & well supplied. The common space studio is much roomier than it looks on photos so nicely decorated & comfy. Nice kitchen! Such gorgeous views. Cozy Paradise. Pastoral setting! ***** Please Note; The Hawaii State Tax 14.42% is due upon arrival and can be paid in cash or by US$ personal check.
ALOHA, Please read this through so you understand our accommodations. Hawaii farm life is the best. We love to share this space with you for your comfort and security while you relax, explore and play in the greatest part of the Island. Not likened to a big resort or hotel we do the best we can to make your stay a comfortable one. This is our farm and home where we live, work and play. Mahalo Nui Loa. You are welcome to our humble abode and farm. About this charming and clean spacious studio place. We list for three but it will easily accommodate 4 with enough sleeping space if the group does not mind sharing an open airy space with vaulted ceilings. Best for a single person a couple or small family. There are two large rooms with no door between them so it works well for young families whom can keep an eye on their young ones. It works best for two adults or a couple with a child or two. "Julies place is much bigger than we thought. It's called a studio because there are no doors between the rooms, but there are distinct kitchen, sleeping, and living areas that are around corners, out of eye-shot from each other. If you have several people who want/need to be in separate rooms for separate activities, there is plenty of space for all. Plus a dining table in the middle. The apartment was very nicely appointed - lots of decorative touches, games, books, DVDs, kitchen and bathroom supplies. The property is beautiful, and also spacious. It is up a side street from the main highway, so it feels private and remote, yet only a couple of miles into Hawi. Unlike other places we stayed in Hawai'i, it was quick and easy to go back and forth from Airbnb to town and activities. We only got to meet Julie and David upon checkout, as we were always out and about, and only there for two nights. They are lovely and gracious hosts, and made us feel comfortable and welcome. Julie was very quick to respond to text questions and her instructions were very clear. We wish we could have stayed there longer, and would jump at the chance to return for another visit to Hawi Hideaway. Mahalo nui loa, Julie and David!" The Beautiful Country studio has 'two' wide open 'adjoining common space' rooms with bright and airy high ceilings; one with a comfortable California king bed and another sweet adjoining space with a Euro Lounger and Convertible Loveseat Sleeper twin. NOTE: The rooms are open and adjoin and make one big common space. Please note that these are not separate rooms. There is NO bedroom door between the two large L shaped rooms. The space it light, airy and comfortable for study or relaxation. We now have cable TV for your enjoyment. A television with a great assortment of blue-ray DVDs and books to read to enjoy while you relax. We keep adding to this collection for your comfort. We also offer an assortment of board games for your enjoyment. There is wifi for your computers. One full bathroom with tub and shower and a large fully stocked kitchen to cook in. Warning; Since we are now on solar energy when the sun is not out for a long period the hot water may just get warm and not hot. If you need hot boil some water to add to your bath to get the desired results, remember we are not the Hilton :)) Your own private yard to enjoy and relax in when not out playing and exploring the area. The windows offer views of the front yard and pond area and back windows view green grassy pastures with happily grazing livestock. We have been told repeatedly how great the star gazing is here. HawiHideawy Farm Ohana comforts include: a very comfortable California King bed, quality linens and towels, lots of windows for breezes and natural light, private yard with table chairs , wifi and a well stocked kitchen. Fully equipped kitchen and lots of counter space. Visit the Farmers Market on Saturday morning and bring some local fruits and veggies back to prepare your farm fresh meal in the perfect well stocked country kitchen. Don't want to cook? Enjoy one of our local coffee shops or restaurants. Everything is kept bright clean and tidy. The house is serenaded by the soothing sound of the wind in the palm tree grove. There is an old jungle area and we are adding new fruit trees including—mango, lichee, avocado, citrus, coffee and more— to grace the property and bring us fresh fruit. We are continually growing and changing here with new life and projects. We have pet dogs on the property. One big Rottie dog, Ja-mee-ma, with a loud bark she has her own huge yard and kennel area. Meema is super friendly but a watch dog and she gives us a warning bark for each new arrival morning or night. She stays in her yard when we have company and alerts us of the comings and goings. Also our friendly family Corgis are out and about to greet and say hello. We also have a couple of cows, goats and usually a horse in the back pasture. Animals can be unpredictable; a pony can be naughty and nip. Please stay on your side of the fence to visit them. There are quite a number of local pests and we prefer they stay outside the clean and tidy studio.. Geckos like to come indoors and they can be quite messy (yes they are cute). Please keep your doors closed at all times to keep the centipedes and/or other insects out. Flies like to come inside to lay eggs so be careful not to keep the door open when you go in and out. Your garbage can be brought out to the big can by the Coconut stand and driveway. We have garbage bags under the sink to refill your trash can. Thank you so much. Hawaii is paradise to pests too and believe me if you leave the door open and let flies in you wont be happy as they will quickly lay eggs and maggots will happen. Please close the door quickly when going in and out and dont leave it open to run out to the car for groceries or personal items. They love a chance to get into the home....ah farm living. We like to keep the studio clean and bug free. Mahalo Nui Loa for this co-operation. The Ohana is private and separate from the main house. It is possible to bring your children and perhaps a well behaved pet with special permission. We are a non- smoking family and prefer non smokers. Please do not smoke in the studio or by the windows, Mahalo. It is generally very quiet here except for lovey and varied birdsong and some pond frogs. This is our own private home where we are most often to be found in the yard with our Grandsons, playing with the dogs or gardening outdoors. PLEASE respect the fact that this is 'our home' and farm and we live and play here. We love our private dwelling place. We love to share and have people who are comfortable with our lifestyle and who enjoy country living. We try hard to make it a comfortable and happy place for your stay. If you do not like occasional country animal and family sounds then I expect you might enjoy a more controlled environment such as a motel. Life happens on the farm and we cannot control everything. Full moon comes as well as new moon. Hotels can offer you a more controlled atmosphere if you are more comfortable that way for approx 3 to 4 times the price. Our home is our sanctuary and we love to share it with others whom enjoy the Hawaiian country life. We are a farm with our own dogs and others in the area that bark occasionally and roosters and cattle around so you may hear some mooing, crowing and have a wake up call of crowing and dogs doing a quick chorus to announce the morning has come once again! Ahhh.... the country life... Please NOTE IMPORTANT ; As all hotels and vacation rentals, we will be adding a % Hawaii Transient Accommodations / General Excise tax and service fee will be added to your bill which we will ask for when you arrive. This can be paid to us by check, money order, or cash. ******The standard cleaning fee paid up front is valid for up to a one week rental. An additional cleaning fee of $50.00 will be due with the Hawaii Tax and due on arrival.****** If your stay is longer please note we have clean sheets and towels at your request. 9.25% Hawaii Accommodation Tax 4.167% GE Tax Mahalo for your understanding. This extra charge is the reason we can offer our space to you for such a good value. Please feel free to ask questions before you book to clarify anything for yourselves.
The area we live in is safe and secure with a private country living atmosphere, a great neighborhood for walking or biking into town which is a couple of miles away. The property is private and peaceful, about a mile and a half from town. The best of both worlds here ; if a cloudy or rainy day, drive 10 minutes south Our Kohala Beaches in coastal desert, almost always sunny. We have a variety of beautiful weather. Usually awesome, cooler than Kona and Hilo. Our gorgeous tropical plants and pastures need showers! Please conserve energy as much as practical, and don't hesitate to talk to us about any concerns, day or night. Your comfort is our pleasure!
  • Very nice people!

  • Whether the season was good, with a very good view with a rainbow every day, We could see whales from the nearby sea. (Jan-Mar) There are cows, horses, goats, and cute sheepdogs, and it is a comfortable house in a pleasant nature. The kitchen was easy to use.

We have a local style plantation house that has a fabulous yard and is easy walking distance to Hawi Town. The house represents Old Hawai’i to us. It is not fancy or polished. The local flavor of Hawi is why we love it so much. We have many edible fruits in our yard, depending on the season, including mango, banana, liliquoi, papaya, mountain apple, orange, and guava. Short walk to Hawi farmers market, restaurants and galleries, local coffee shop, and more! HI license: STVR-19-359309 NUC-19-1129
Our house is clean and functional, with comfortable new beds. It is local Hawai’i style. Our outdoor shower, yard and patio are the biggest pluses of our listing. The third bedroom does not have a lot of privacy, and the main bathroom is between the two main bedrooms are the main drawbacks, especially if you have more than 4 people.
Hawi Town is a small, laid back town on the big island of Hawai’i. There is a great farmers market on Saturdays, and a some good restaurants to choose from. We are a beautiful half hour drive along the coast from the Kohala Coast beaches that the big island is famous for. Our lot is under a half acre and you can see the neighbors houses from our yard. One neighbor's house is abandoned. It is empty with no one living there. our most quiet neighbor! =)
  • Super cute and clean. Great location a few blocks from town. They were fantastic hosts and the fruit from the garden was delicious!

  • The five of us stayed at Heidi’s place for five days and it was a great experience. It is a small house with one bathroom which was a bit complicated for us to handle sometimes 😊 but the garden is beautiful and the house has so much to offer. Would definitely recommend!

  • Beautiful Hawaiian Hale! This amazing home is so special. We loved the kitchen, the beautiful decorations, beds are comfy, outdoor shower is the best! Can’t wait to come back and stay longer. Heidi is a great host- stay here you will love it ! Mahalo

  • We loved our stay at the Banana Ranch! The house was clean an cozy and perfect as our base camp while we explored all this beautiful island has to offer. We will cherish memories of family dinners outside, exploring the fruits growing in the yard with the kids and little walks into town and it’s cute shops and restaurants. Also, we were a bit late to checkout and the hosts were very understanding and nice about it! Thank you for sharing your home with us!

    Madeleine2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful convenient location - short walk to market, coffee shop, fun restaurants. Local local vibe and experience. Great breezes and huge yard. While house is small, it affords East spread out for larger groups (we were five with three teenagers). Definitely enjoyed our stay! Wonderful and fast communications.

    Heatherly2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, walk to Hawi town and close to lots of great hikes. Cottage had lots of supplies and toys for the kids. Third bedroom/sleepout does not have a fan but it gets cool at night so was not a bother for us. Heidi and Samantha were welcoming and very responsive. Thanks!

    Natasha2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed with a few friends at Heidi's place while in town for a wedding. The house was quaint and comfortable, and we especially enjoyed hanging out in the beautiful backyard. Comfortable beds and incredible natural resources in this area—definitely worth a visit!

2-story townhouse with 3,400 sq. feet of gracious living...and just 2 blocks from cafes and the island's best ice-cream ever..not to mention shopping, restaurants, and other amenities. A short drive gets you to amazing views, hiking, snorkeling, and more. When filled with laughter, with its spacious social rooms and multiple outdoor entertaining areas really shine. Great beds, lots of natural light, and Kohala's special brand of breeze make this the perfect spot to hang out with your group.
This grand home sailed here to Hawaii from Connecticut at the turn of the century. It's one of a small number of homes from the era of this size. As such, we are happy to enable more people to enjoy the feeling of gracious living in old Hawaii. It's clean and airy, with high ceilings. Big open lawns surround the house. Mature trees offer flowers, fruit, and shade. Garage parking for 2 vehicles.
Hawi is one of several small towns that dot the coast as you make your way around the northern tip of the Big Island. Here the air is clear, and the grass green. Just 10 minutes from the always-dry and sunny coast on the western side, we enjoy just enough rainfall to keep the countryside lush. It's the perfect medium between the wet Hilo side and the dry Kona side... Hawi and Kapa'au are home to many historic landmarks and a bevy of beautiful artists' galleries. Beach parks and the best county recreational facility on the island offer pool, tennis courts, gym, baseball, etc. Golf green and LEED certified library round out the amenities of the area. It's country living at its best. You will be a short walk from the Saturday Hawi Farmers Market, Kohala Village Hub, Kohala Coffee Mill, Sushi Rock, Elements Gifts & Jewelry, and many more fun places to dine and shop.
  • This huge, old style historic plantation house is a great place to stay for a family or large group. Large porches, yard and living area make for great hanging out. Even though it’s quiet and low key, Hawi is not far from the sandy beaches and some less well known Big Island treasures. The host is thoughtful and the house very well equipped and comfortable. Definitely feels like a home, not a rental. If you stay here, I’ll be jealous!

  • Malia's home is a beautiful, stylish, and historic space. We felt right at home, and my kids loved running around in the yard. Hawi is a great town, and we loved the easy access to a variety of day trips.

    Emily2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • The best airbnb I have ever had the privilege of staying in. Malia was an amazing host, extremely responsive, extremely accommodating and always kind and helpful. The house is abaolutely amazing and came fully stocked with anything and everything you would wish to have in your temporary home away from home. The house is beautiful and private and extremely spacious. Even the beautiful photos on the listing do not do it justice. The yard is gorgeous and relaxing, the lania was so dreamy and comfortable. There truly could not be a better airbnb for you to stay in. Really so incredible- I can't wait to come back! Thank you!!

    Zari2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay in Hawi. Malia’s space was so spacious & well stocked. The yard was gorgeous and there was lots of sitting spaces indoor and out to relax, gather, eat, etc. We love this part of the island. We did notice some road noise & roosters our first night but it was background noise by the next. Would absolutely recommend.

    Erin2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Very spacious funky stylish home. Feels like a 70s Hawaiian get away. Very conveniently located, we walked to dinner every night. It’s right on a busy street so there is some street noise as you go to sleep. Malia was a wonderful host, very responsive, and gave us tons of tips for the island.

    Barbara2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • The Lilikoi House is a wonderful plantation era home, lots of space and perfect location. Walk to downtown Hawi where you can get the best coffee, ice cream and sushi. Even a kava bar. Kitchen is well stocked. We had a great stay. Mahalo Malia =)

    Terra2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Malia's place is relaxing and wonderful. Do not miss spending an afternoon in the hammock on the comfortable porch (which you'll share with a bevy of charming geckos!) or an evening on the comfortable lanai. The kitchen is well equipped, the house is a short walk from "downtown" Hawi, and Malia is very responsive and welcoming. A lot of people might not think to make Hawi a multi-night stay, but if you're looking to relax and get to know old Hawai'i this is the place!

    Maria2019-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lilikoi house is a wonderful place! We had 3 adults and 4 kids and we were all enchanted by the house, garden, and chickens. Labels are found everywhere making it easy to maneuver through the house and days. The house is bright and comfortable with lanais front and back, hammocks, rocking chairs and enough furniture that everyone could find their special spot to chill out. The town of Hawi is small and charming and we drove to the beach everyday for swimming and snorkeling, hiked the Pololu Trail, explored the shops and restaurants, and made it to the Saturday Farmers market too. Geckos and chickens gave the kids endless fun. We enthusiastically encourage families to stay at Malia’s home.

The Cottage is new and has been beautifully and thoughtfully furnished so that your stay will be comfortable, quiet and relaxing. Indoor amenities include a king size, Tempur-Pedic bed, overstuffed sofa and bathroom with a shower. The outdoors includes a lovely, private garden, a secluded sitting area and a wonderful outside second shower for two. The covered lanai offers a protected place to sit outside and includes comfortable chairs and a coffee table.
    perfect for single or couple.
  • Judy's place is exactly as described - nicely decorated, cozy, and very comfortable. It feels very personal and homey. Great privacy and amenities, but still close to Pololu lookout, parks, and Hawi restaurants. We enjoyed our stay here!

    Lizzie2020-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • We unfortunately were not able to stay at the guest cottage due to COVID-19 concerns, but wanted to comment on how understanding and professional a host Judy was even though this resulted in a cancellation within 24 hours of the stay, and how quickly she responded. We hope to stay at her place next time we are in Hawaii!

    Shawn2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent. Clean, well appointed. The accommodation was one of the best I have visited.

    Ron2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • What a place! Super clean and fancy and it had everything we needed. We loved our stay here; we would have stayed longer had we known the area would be our trip highlight. Judy gave us some great advice on local attractions which gave us a beauty end to our trip. Great hospitality and communication.

  • Judy's place is everything she says in the description and even more. It really is a wonderful place in a delightful location. We loved the outdoor kitchen, the lanai, the surroundings and really enjoyed our conversations with Judy. Kapa'au is a superb area for walks and isn't too far from places like Waimea. We hope to return before too long.

  • Great location for relaxing and dining in Waimea.

    Jerome2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot express enough how much gratitude I have for these airbnb owners. I had the most relaxing and wonderful stay in there home. Highly recommend this spot for future guests. Waimea is such a beautiful area and this home is an ideal spot to get to know the area!

  • Comfortable apartment, basic kitchenette, excellent bed, small but adequate bathroom, attentive and easy to communicate with host. The location Is close to shopping, restaurants, and outstanding Farmers’ Markets in town. Great value, highly recommend.

    Victor2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome place to stay, close to shops and food...a beach maybe 30 minutes away and a view of Mouna Kea observatory from the back yard and to get there is about an hour drive

    Nicholas2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great option for a lower-budget trip to Hawaii. The apartment is spacious and comfortable, with a basic but adequate kitchenette. Daniel was an attentive host. The location in a subdivision is not inspiring, and there's no outdoor space to eat or hang out -- but it's a short walk.into town, and Hapuna beach is an easy 20 minute drive away. Overall a great value and I would highly recommend.

    Julia2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Nice space for a small number of people. The kitchen was well enough appointed for my needs. Convenient to the center of Waimea. And the bed was super comfortable! Thanks for having me!

    Chris2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Waimea is great town to "set up camp" in: it has some remarkable restaurants, two grocery stores, neat coffee shops, and a handful of antique shops & galleries to explore. Great beaches 20+ minutes away, and its central location lends itself to explore west (1 hour to Kona), north (½ hour to Hawi), and east (1½ hours to Hilo) parts of the island quite easily.

  • Beautiful place with beautiful hosts!

    Lori2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The home was far beyond expectations. A perfect getaway for any occasion to just relax. Such an amazing experience. Clean home with wonderful amenities. I didn’t want to leave. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing experience. And we can’t forget about the nicest dog on the property named Kahu. Friendliest dog ever. You can play fetch with him all day. That definitely locked it in for us. Thank you to Richard and family for sharing an amazing home for us.

    Troy2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Mahalo to you and Natalie for hosting one of our most beautiful CSM trainings to date! It was lovely working with you both and offering this blessed sanctuary of yours to our students. The love you put into the land is felt everywhere! Bless your entire family and give them our gratitude for such a wonderous retreat.

    Suraj2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Nice secluded location from the tourist traps. Prefect for a family vacation. Richard is super nice and very helpful. You can’t go wrong with this place.

    Han2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Lokahi Garden Sanctuary is a peaceful, beautiful place tucked away in a farm. The house is comfortable and the owners Richard and Natalie reside in a different building when guest inhabit the sanctuary. They are very kind and hospitable. We wish we had taken the time to practice yoga with Natalie. The view from the backyard is absolutely stunning and their dog Kahu sometimes comes to say hello. Please watch out for the animals when you drive up and down the road. The sanctuary is about 1 hour from Kona. There are many activities available to tourists such as hiking and ziplining. Richard is also very helpful with recommendations. We highly recommend it to anyone in search of peace and beauty who is not afraid to drive.

    Andrew2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great place if you looking for a farm house experience. All around lovely. We all miss Kahoo, the farm dog the most.

    Vijay2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Our family had a wondrous stay at Richard's place. A beautiful home set on a hill overlooking the Pacific with views of Maui. The house itself is lovely, beautiful layout and handcrafted wood, built by Richard and family themselves. And their farm and fruit trees were all around - we began our days with their just-picked papayas and citrus. Richard and family are incredibly welcoming. The home and farm they've created feels like a retreat - we felt at peace the moment we arrived. It was an incredibly special place to stay, and we hope to return again.

  • A very clean and stylishly decorated foliage plant, Petrina guest house is a very relaxing space. The kitchen was small and had only one electromagnetic cooker, but everything I needed was elegantly arranged, and I was able to cook comfortably and have a pleasant meal. The bath towel had a very nice scent and I was spending Petrina's affection on everything I did. I stayed for 3 nights and wanted to stay more. Whenever a small number of people visit the island of Hawaii, we want to come back to this dear home.

    Noriko2020-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Cool and clean place! Great outdoor space for the kids to run around.

    Jacob2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay here. The Hosts are Great. Love the small local towns, stores, food and farmers market. We viewed whales migrating between the Big Island and Maui. Hiked multiple trails in volcanoes National Park. So much to see and do. Or just chill on the patio on this beautiful county property!

    Desri2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A comfortable stay for our family (4 guests). Great amenities, very clean, and cute decor! Surrounded by beautiful nature and close to Hawi/pololu. Petrina is an excellent host, would stay here again!

    Taylor2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our two day stay at Pettina’s place. Only wish we could have stayed longer. The home was so clean and comfortable and decorated so nicely. We were able to borrow beach chairs and a boogie board and beach towels which helped a lot! So many special touches were appreciated. In addition, we were able to do laundry which we needed being the end of our Big Island trip. I would love to visit again and highly recommend this beautiful location and wonderful host.

    Sally2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful guest house with tons of thoughtful touches. Petrina was lovely and very quick to respond whenever we needed anything. She also provided beach-going supplies for our use, which was wonderful and much appreciated. Our group had a great stay.

    Sarah2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Petrina's was easy to communicate and her place was great. She has it stocked with anything you would need in the kitchen and it is a great space for even longer stays. It was very clean and we enjoyed the country drive with amazing views on the way to her place.

    Elizabeth2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Petrina’s guest house was perfect! Exactly what we needed for our stay. The guest house and the property were beautiful! Comfortable, clean, and spacious. Central to Hawi and Kapaau...and even though there’s a drive to other major cities and attractions, the two highways leaving Hawi have incredible sights (which made any drive a piece of cake). Was pleasantly surprised by the chickens and roosters that would come to say hi in the morning 😊 Would definitely stay again!

This adorable cabin includes a cute bathroom complete with shower/toilet/vanity. The walk-in closet is a nice touch to store away personals. There is a sitting area, the sleeping area, the outdoor kitchen and a shaded patio that serves as an outdoor living room. Views of the ocean, the Hawi windfarm, Maui all set on a working farm just a short walk from downtown Hawi! The décor is set in a Polynesian style, bright, cheerful, and peace filled. Wifi enabled. Created with Pure Aloha!
This cabin is designed with the invitation to enjoy the outdoors more. The outdoor patio has complete living room style Hawaiian lifestyle furnishings so sprawling out in leisure is just waiting out the front door. There is a table and chairs on the lawn, or sit and dine at the nook on the lanai. The kitchen is fully functional and provides for easy preparation of meals. Everything needed to prepare fine cuisine is present short of a full sized oven. Designed for one person or a couple, this space is relatively private from the other dwellings and provides for a real Hawaii-feel stay. It is constructed in the single wall style relative to the Big Island, and provides for excellent ventilation inside. The Living Room is under the shade canopy which functions as a weather barrier so that even in the worst of weather, a meal can still be prepared and enjoyed outside. Due to the nature of wildlife and pest intrusion, we ask those staying with us not to bring the food inside the cabin or to leave any dry foods open or out where the elements or live nature can get in and make a mess. Mahalo!

  • The farm is lovely, and our cottage was perfectly comfortable — large, clean, and charmingly decorated. Rev Les is a friendly and respectful host, and the expectations of guests are clear and reasonable. The farm is a perfect distance from town for a leisurely walk. This is overall the best place we stayed in our two weeks on the island!

    Meta2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and cozy spot at a lovely farm! Rev. Les was very welcoming and generous! We didn't meet in person, but I felt safe and welcomed and had privacy and a peaceful environment. :)

  • Loved this lovely cabin and setting. Was great to be able to walk into town of Hawi and down towards the ocean on a beautiful country road. Hardly needed a car which was a bonus. The cabin was super clean and cozy. Having the outdoor kitchen was the best part... Thankyou for a great stay.!!

Our place is in the country near historic Kapa'au and Hawi. A short drive to scenic Pololu valley. A historic neighborhood, this was the sugar plantation managers "homestead". We moved a rustic 100 year old plantation house from Hawi and placed it on our front two acres with my wood shop near by. We live on our back 10 acre farm, close by, with our animals. We grow an abundance of fruit that we provide, when in season, for our guests. We are happy to have the trade winds, and fresh air.
Classic rustic old style plantation house, fronting huge banyan trees and palm trees, is a typical local home giving one a typical experience of living in Hawaii . You will be away from highway traffic noise, the nights are peaceful, and on clear nights an abundance of stars in the sky. Please keep in mind, this is the tropics and the country and might not be for everyone who prefer big town city life surroundings. There are insects but there are also cute little geckos (Hawaiian and Madagascar) that eat them. Our Tax Accommodation #TA-047-247-1552-01
Our neighborhood is safe and old style Hawaii...great hiking and exploring
  • Hap and Mely are super gracious, and we appreciated their eco-aware and conscientious approach to living. We are grateful for their excellent communications and many good recommendations for activities and restaurants. Their rental is well situated to visit the many wonders of the northern part of the Big Island of Hawaii. A visit to their mini horses, donkeys and pig, are sure to delight young families. We will return!

    Andrew2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Such a quaint, unique place to visit! Hap and Mely were amazing hosts. We spent time with them at their home drinking tea and picking fruit from their trees. They were a wealth of information from where to see a great sunset and beaches to visit to legends of local lore.

    Molly2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Hap and Mely were incredibly friendly and welcoming. It was refreshing to meet airbnb hosts who genuinely seem excited to have guests. The cottage is cute and comfortable, and in a gorgeous location, close to Hawi and a 30 minute drive from the incredible beaches of the north Kona coast. There are definitely jungle critters in the house, which is something to keep in mind if you’re on the squeamish side. In that location, bugs are inevitable- but so are the cute little geckos that eat the bugs. They also provided us with mosquito nets. Overall it was a lovely stay.

    Cecilia2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • There is a reason Hap and Mely are SuperHosts. These folks are awesome and will make you feel welcome on the Big Island. I wish we had scheduled more time on this side of the island so we could have enjoyed their hospitality more. The house was awesome, with fresh flowers in the vase when we arrived and fresh fruit from the local trees that we used for breakfast. There are many books to read and learn about the island history, landmarks, hikes, beaches, etc. Some of the furniture is obviously Hap's creations (he has been featured in Fine Woodworking twice) that were beautiful along with the antique furniture that adorned the house.

    Brant2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • One of a kind place to stay. This part of the island is beautiful and Hap is eager to point you in the direction of what’s going on in the area. He also shared local fruits on his property and gave us a tour of his farm. The house is as beautiful and quaint as the pictures posted. Things to note for those looking to rent here: the master bedroom is a full bed not a queen, we made due but thought I would mention here. There are little creatures that like to help themselves to food left out so put all food in the fridge even if it’s in a bag. Mosquitoes are inside and out at this place because you’re literally in the jungle, but Hap provides lots on anti mosquito repellent options.

    Rachel2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • See a different side of Hawaii. Not for everyone but if you like quiet, the country, off the beaten path hikes, and geckos, then, like us, you’ll enjoy your time here.

    Caroline2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts who made our stay really special and authentic. We loved the animals, fruit trees, and buying wood from Hap’s woodwork shop. Hawi was rainy but we didn’t feel far from nice sunny spots. Felt very cared for!

You’ll love my place because of the light, the comfy bed, covered parking and the coziness. The ohana is good for couples, business travelers, and for a quiet get-a-way.
You have a carport and private entrance to the ohana. We are available if you need anything, and it's easy for you to come and go without interacting with us, as you like.
We are in a quiet neighborhood, no current roosters or dogs. Nice!

  • This is a great location for the town of Hawi and NW Big Island. It is tucked away from the "city" bustle of Hawi. It was clean and comfortable and Orange & Larry were super friendly hosts. Make sure you eat at the Bamboo Restaurant and the Sushi Rock - they are both special and have amazing food !

  • A really well-done flat with a private parking port and entrance, as well as private patio facing a huge grass field and distant view of the ocean. It was a little cooler in the evening for us, but the inside sitting area with halogen lights, paired with a stereo and bookshelf speakers made for a really nice evening relaxing after exploring the island. Our hosts were very friendly and were fun to talk to about the local area and life on the island. This is a more secluded area of the island, but the private areas and small towns around the north side of the island are well worth the stay. Thanks for having us!

This lovely guesthouse is in a serene neighborhood, 7 minutes from the center of town with easy access to shopping and groceries (including a Saturday farmer's market). Our self-contained retreat offers secure parking, new furnishings, laundry, full kitchen with utensils, cooking accessories, WiFi, Roku TV, and its own private lanai (porch). The house has an open floorplan for kitchen/living room, while the bedroom is it’s own secluded room. Melaleuca and ginger hedges make it very private.
We have two small dogs who like to roam the property and keep it safe. They bark, but they are not aggressive.
Clouds and mist move over and through our neighborhood, and the weather tends to alternate between periods of mist and drizzle to gentle sunshine. Our cooler mountain climate will give you the perfect respite from a day spent in the ever-sunny heat of the Kohala Coast. The center of Waimea has stunning views in all directions, being nestled among some of the most ancient mountains on Big Island, including Mauna Kea. With a mixture of Old Hawaii and Paniolo culture, our community is truly a special little corner of the world. As an important ranch town and center for astronomical research, Waimea has excellent services, facilities and conveniences for a town of its size. Stay with us, and you’ll find out why our town is Big Island’s “best-kept secret”! Waimea is uniquely and conveniently located less than an hour away from some of the most picturesque and historic sites the Island has to offer. Below is a list of nearby attractions and their travel times, according to Google Maps: Waipio Valley - 27m Spencer Beach - 29m Hapuna Beach - 32m Waialea (69) - 33m Lapakahi State Historical Park - 40m Akaka Falls - 57m Pololu Valley - 58m Kailua-Kona - 1hr3m King Kamehameha's Birthplace - 1h36m
  • This place was nice, clean, and very big. The full kitchen was great to have after camping in Volcanoes and the outdoor porch and table were a nice place to relax. Just outside of town so we loved the location.

  • Lovely place. Nice surroundings, Quiet, comfortable with all equipments needed. We were extremely pleased. We highly recommend it. Warm welcome. RoxAnne and Robert have done everything to make our stay happy. And they have been extremely reactive and professional.

    René2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • I've traveled all over the world and this is one of the best AirBnb locations that I've ever been to. Wonderfully clean with fantastic amenities including washer and dryer (!) The caretaker Robert was extremely helpful and responsive. Including going into town to refill the propane tank for the indoor gas fireplace which was awesome for taking the evening mountain chill out of the air. Was so good that we extended our stay and a friend joined us on the futon. There is an extra charge for that but it's still an outstanding deal. Would definitely stay here again.

  • The guest house is located on a quiet street just outside of town in a beautiful and peaceful location. The pictures made the guest house seem like a nice choice, but it’s even better in person. Communication was quick and easy, and the guest house has everything you need for a relaxing stay. A great find!

    Jennifer2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed our stay Very quiet and private. Clean,fresh...skylights in living room brighten up the place and your mood. We got a chance to watch the Milky Way from the lawn, just outside the kitchen window....MIND BLOWING experience. Thank you!

Right in the beginning of North Kohala with an awesome ocean and mountain views. This private Ohana is a great place for a couple or single family with a kid. The Ohana is attached to the main house but you do have your own private entrance. There is a small kitchen in ohana and the BBQ out side with the stove top. close to beautiful beaches, harbor. Guests would enjoy the beautiful sunset every evening. Must have a vehicle. Also, you can choose to go fishing, whale watching.. [will cost extra].
  • Great place. Close to the best beaches on the Big Island. Well appointed space, comfy bed and ultra clean.

  • We had a very nice time! Malis and her husband were very friendly and helpful, giving us some good tips on local spots. Very nice cottage and amazing views.

  • Nice and quiet so close to the best beaches. Relaxing

    Laura2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had the best time at Malis' place! Gorgeous views from the property and less than a 15 minute drive to several great beaches. Malis and Rick are the nicest hosts, and are very thoughtful. Malis stayed up to greet us even though we arrived around midnight, and had left us granola bars and yogurt for breakfast the next morning. Rick shared delicious fish he had caught, and our daughter das obsessed with their friendly dog, Mowgli. Everything you need for the beach is there (cooler including ice, snorkel gear, towels, chairs, umbrella and boogie board). Thank you so much, we hope to be back again!

Luna means 'above' in Hawaiian. It's the upstairs studio apartment in a converted barn on a 5 acre farm set back from the road amidst greenery and privacy. There's citrus, macadamia, starfruit, papaya...and chickens. The laundry room next to Luna's entrance is shared by the downstairs studio guests and the property caretaker, who lives in the small cottage on property. Access to the pool, which is covered when not in use, is available through the owner.
Being upstairs, Luna favors the light. The window seat looking out on the pool & garden makes a great nest for reading, or an extra bed. The stairs and floor are well insulated to keep incidental sounds from neighbors at a minimum. It's a great sanctuary in itself, or a calm place to return at the end of a day's activities. Beach chairs, umbrellas & cooler are available for outings. Books include local history and areas of interest. There's a small TV and wifi for streaming and/or staying in touch with the outside world.
Hawi's an old plantation town, now famous for being the turnaround point for the annual Ironman Triathlon. Local features include B.I.G. Skydiving, Flumin' the Ditch and Zipline. Kohala Coffee Mill is world class. Saturday market under the banyans. Sushi Rock & Bamboo Restaurant in town. Birthplace of King Kamehameha and Hawai'is oldest heiau nearby.
  • Micheals place is great, well equipped, clean and comfortable, peaceful and quiet. Michael respond quickly to messages and is very easy to communicate with. I would recommend this place for sure.

    Catherine2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • The space was above and beyond what we expected!! We had such a restful and fun time. With the directions provided it was super easy to find and the property was beautiful. We could tell our comfort was a priority for Michael as he had made sure to prepare the space to our needs & even went so far as having loads of food for us in the fridge, quality and delicious as well! Super thoughtful. The living space had everything we could have wanted! The laundry room was a dream and very convenient and easy to use. So helpful mid travel! Absolutely spotless! Again, it was so relaxing, fun & we can honestly say the best Airbnb we’ve ever stayed at! Thanks so much Michael.

    Ben2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • If I could give my stay at Luna 10 stars I would - highly recommended!! I arrived after dark and followed Michael’s clear instructions to the property and was able to get in easily. Michael’s property is tucked away in a beautiful and semi remote area of the island. My plan was to relax and take long walks on the nearby trails - it was perfect and meditative. You for sure need a rental car and know that beaches are a bit of a drive away, which is also why it’s so nice and quiet in the area - not as many tourists! The space was probably one of the cleanest and most well equipped rentals I have ever experienced. The kitchen has pots, pans, utensils, and everything I needed to cook myself food all week. The bed was very comfortable and I had a great night sleep every night. There’s also laundry to wash and dry beach towels and clothes. There is an assortment of books and a little tv if you want to unwind. He also has a copy of ‘Big Island Revealed’ which helped me navigate where I wanted to sightsee- I bought a copy to take with me for the rest of my adventures on the other side of the island. Michael was kind to leave a binder of information including the password for his WiFi (works great!) and info about staying at his property and in the area. Michael and Danny both live adjacent to the rental house and allowed for total privacy and solitude. When we met in person he was a delight and shared his love of hula with me and we had a wonderful visit. He also introduced me to his chickens (no roosters!!) and overall made my experience amazing. I will totally book this spot again- if it’s available don’t hesitate, you will not be disappointed. Mahalo!!!

  • Hawi is a quaint little plantation town with much beauty that can't be matched, the owner Michael has pride in his town and his place...the effort and details that he offers will leave a lasting memory for all your travels...his place is quiet, large and roomy ...very clean and very well stocked with everything you'll need for a special vacation..

  • We had a great time at Keely's place. The plants around the yard are beautiful and the pool was a lot of fun for my daughter. Very close to the cute little downtown area - we walked to get lunch and breakfast. Families with little ones - the bedroom is big enough to fit a pack n play, probably two, with plenty of room to spare. We will stay again if we come back to this part of the island!

  • Awesome place to stay! Close to town but private. Nice private grounds set back from the road and quiet. Awesome pool with large deck and pool house great for family stays or just relaxing. The Blue Ohana was perfect for relaxing g and preparing meals. Keely responded quickly to any questions we had. However the biggest and best surprise was ending up unexpectedly on a historic estate. All of our expectations were exceeded in every way during our stay at the Blue Ohana and we will be returning many more times just to relax!

  • This stay was a wonderful retreat for myself. I felt welcomed and had everything I needed. I am a big stickler for clean, so I loved how well the place was kept! Will visit again.

    Elizabeth2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • While this is an unusual space in that there are several people living on the residence, I found it quite lovely. The private bathroom is just outside the room with a few steps to enter. The bed was comfortable ( I prefer a firmer bed). If you are a light sleeper I recommend bringing ear plugs. With windows open for ventilation you can hear neighbors muffled voices or TV. Would return.

    Michele2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • The facilities exceeded my expectations - it was a little island of tropical paradise. Bobbi was very accommodating and thoughtful. Would definitely stay again.

  • I’ve stayed in the garden room and the cozy bedroom. I adore them both! They have ALL the comforts of home. It’s hotel living in the privacy of a beautiful home on acres and acres of beautiful Hawaiian land. It’s beautiful, inspirational and Bobi is a beautiful, kind soul that makes sure your stay is perfect.

This lovely hale li'i (tiny house in Hawaiian) is a perfect private little get away place! The place is fully furnished and has a kitchenette complete with a single burner induction cooktop, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, blender and toaster. There is no oven but the large lanai (veranda) is fully equipped for barbecueing and lounging around! The coup de grâce is the bathroom shower which is very spacious with a skylight and features a custom tile mosaic mural created by the host!
Hale e Komo Mai is located in a residential neighborhood yet visitors find that once at the housie it feels like a private secret little gem way off away and secluded. Please be aware that the location is not far as the crow flies from the main road and road noise can be heard while outside. Visitors can leave phones and devices in the car or bring them in to access the world as the housie has it’s own WIFI and multiple USB outlets throughout! Hale e Komo Mai is well situated 2 miles from the center of historic Kamuela which is nestled in Parker Ranch yet boasts several of the world’s premier telescopes. Waimea (Kamuela) is also located about midway between Kona and Hilo. We are central to both and Hawi which is an artsy and cute little town at the north end of the island. Kamuela airport (MUE) is our airport and can be flown into from Honolulu, Kahului, and Moloka’i on Mokulele Airlines. It’s a very small airport that accommodates the small 9 passenger inter island planes! It’s a great way to get a first look at the island! Guests will need a rental car to get the most out of their stay. Check online at Turo for rental cars if you plan to arrive at MUE! You can find a lot of options through that site and it’s like Airbnb for car rentals! Hale e Komo Mai is about 2 miles from the center of town and about 14 miles from the nearest coastline/beach. Other airport options are the two international airports; KOA (Kona) and ITO (Hilo) and the big car companies are available at both.
Our place is in an old settled local quiet neighborhood that is 2 miles from the center of Waimea on the Big Island of Hawaii. Waimea (also known as Kamuela) is a historic town of about 10,000 people and was established amidst the famous Parker Ranch.
  • Wonderful awesome space!!! Very kind and thoughtful hosts! Even had banana bread for us at check in! Very nice space, spacious bathroom and very comfortable stay all around! Great coffee as well!!

    Monica2020-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is an absolutely over the top experience. Loki and Frank have literally built this tiny house and the equally large lanai by themselves for their family, and the quality of materials and aesthetics and furnishings totally reflects that. You will never step into a more beautiful shower! Everything is beautifully and carefully chosen, from the Italian hand soap to the exquisite quilt over the bed to the wicker furniture on the deck. No effort or expense has been spared. Moreover, the hosts are present and available if you wish, but respect your space if that is your preference. Loki even brought us chicken soup when one of us had a cold -- not to mention the banana bread and fresh laid eggs and chocolates that started our stay. You will leave here completely spoiled.

    Mary2020-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Loki and Frank are the most caring hosts you’ll ever meet. They make sure your every wish is looked after and provide you with so many thoughtful touches. They are very friendly and oh so generous. Housie was the perfect home base for our long stay on the Big Island. The location is great and we especially loved sitting on the large deck. A home away from home!

    Sian2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful place to stay. Everything is beautiful and comfortable and clean and Loki is a super-helpful and kind host.

    Thekla2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Loki's tiny house is a tiny house, but very well appointed, clean and comfortable. The large lanai is really the living area of this accommodation, having very comfortable chairs and a bbq. The house is a few miles out of town, so if you want to walk to town, it is a little far. Loki truly is a superhost and really cares about her guests (restaurant advice, travel advice, home made banana bread, fresh fruit from her yard, etc). The personal touches are really appreciated.

    Anita2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Loki's Housie is truly a home away from home, perfect for a couple wanting a quiet retreat far from the busyness and frivolity of town and resorts. It is perfect for those who wish to cook for themselves, with a complete kitchen and BBQ. The bed was absolutely luxurious, we slept like babies (note that it has a soft pillowtop). Everything from the large, private lanai to the huge custom shower was clearly designed and built with love by Loki and Frank. You may also meet their two beautiful pooches, friendly cat, and neighbor goats. All in all, we cannot recommend it enough.

    Erin And Josh2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Loki and Frank are wonderful hosts. They made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Their place is so charming. We loved watching the neighbor's goats while we ate meals on the Lanai, and Loki has adorable animals, too! Go give the kitty lots of pets while you're there! We highly recommend the Saturday farmers market for breakfast or lunch, the tree Sanctuary for a quick hike, and Waipi'o valley for a more strenuous hike! The robe and slippers, as well as the gorgeous bathroom, really helped us feel we were on vacation. We highly recommend staying at this adorable housie!

    Chloe2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • The house is an excellent place to stay and explore the big island from. Ideally located equidistant from a lot of hiking and attractions in a fun and friendly town. Loki truly hasn’t missed a touch to make a wary traveler comfortable.

This is a cozy private guest studio apartment with private entrance, private bath and a newly constructed outdoor cooking area. We offer beautiful ocean views in quiet peaceful Kukuihaele Village. Located less than 1 mile from beautiful Waipio Valley "the valley of kings" and 8 miles from the historic plantation town of Honoka'a. You shall be hosted by the gracious Buzz and Adelina Speetjens.
The room is most comfortable for a single person or a couple. The room does have a queen size sofa bed that can accommodate additional children or adults (the room does get a little crowded when the couch is pulled out). Our home has numerous fruit trees (Macadamia nuts, mango, oranges, tangerines, guava, bananas, pears lychee, figs, mountain apples, tangelo, lemons, limes, mango, avocado, dragon fruit) and our guest are always welcome to stroll through our orchard and help themselves to whatever in season and ripe. Within a very short walk are located two magnificent art galleries and gift shops . A county park with pavilion and rest rooms and children's play ground is only 200 yards down the road.

This unique "cottage" sits on 5 acres of garden, orchard and gulch--guests may pick seasonal produce. It is peaceful and quiet but with easy access to two cute towns. The owners run a farm on the back 20 acres with chickens, sheep, goats and cattle.
We are minutes from two cute towns but entirely secluded by lines of bamboo, mock olive and ironwood trees. The main property is thoughtfully landscaped with orchard trees such as citrus, avocado, mango, papaya and banana. There is also a gulch to explore that leads to a woods with wild passion fruit, avocado and Mac nut trees. The back 20 acres are home to sheep, milk goats, cattle and chickens ( no roosters allowed! --too noisy!). The towns offer eclectic shopping and gourmet restaurants as well as hole in the wall eateries. Pololu valley is 15 mins drive to the north (and the end of the road); Hapuna beach state park and resort beaches are 20 mins drive to the south. This is the birthplace of King Kamehameha and is filled with legends and historic places of interest. E Komi Mai!
Quirky stores and a variety of interesting restaurants. Peaceful and quiet. Sustainable natural agriculture practices. Rural community hospitality, historic legends. Real people. If you want night life you'll need to drive south 20 mins to kawaihae (blue dragon, Il Vitola, seafood bar and grill, cafe pesto) or over the mountain road 35 mins to Waimea (Merrimans, red river cafe, microbrewery, underground pizza.). Kona airport is 45 mins drive south along Kohala coast. Hilo is 90 mins over mountain road and through scenic rainforest. Volcano is 2 1/2 drive south.
  • We so enjoyed our stay at the farm, especially having our morning coffee and snacking on fresh fruit on the lawn. Very peaceful and a fabulous host! Would absolutely stay again.

  • Peggy's place is remarkable and rare, a working farm and garden, with animals galore,- beautiful trees, plants, and a woman with wonderful skill at caretaking and hosting. My highest recommendation!! Barb Volkmann

    Barbara J2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Peggy is an earth mama goddess. She takes care of her guests like family, the good kind. Warmest welcome, and a sunny disposition no matter the weather... she’s so knowledgeable and generous. A wonderful place to be. We would have stayed longer if we could have. Next best thing is a return trip. Already looking at dates! Great location for exploring north Kohala and environs. Also a lovely property to spend relaxing and to recharge. Jackie is an angel pup, the geckos are cool, and the cows, sheep, horse, goats and chickens were friendly and sweet. All around wonderful experience.

    Ange2020-02-07T00:00:00Z

  • This is a great area to explore and Peggy's place is serene. The bed was very comfortable and everything was clean and nice. A medium-size grocery store is right across the street, which is handy. Peggy is a terrific host and we enjoyed our stay immensely.

    Robert2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I came here for our anniversary and Peggy's place was every bit as amazing as we hoped for. The guest suite is very clean, the kitchenette has everything you need to throw together a quick meal, and the bathroom has toiletries and great towels. It's all decorated very lovely. There was a constant breeze on that side of the mountain, so even with no A/C we were cool, with open windows and the ceiling fan. We slept wonderfully, the bed is comfortable and there's plenty of pillows. Peggy is so sweet and hospitality is her gift. She made us feel very welcome, gave us a tour of her farm (we got to feed and pet her goats, sheep, very friendly cows, and horse), told us all about the local trees and plants she was growing that we asked about, and let us try whatever was in season. (The lilikoi was our favorite!) At night, if there's clear skies you can get an incredible view of the Milky Way. It's also very close to Pololu Valley, which is a short hike down to a black sand beach. It's the most beautiful place I've ever been -- and we travel a lot, so that's saying something. :) We definitely hope to come back someday!

    Eugenia2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Peggy's Gulch Farms was a wonderful experience. It was the perfect place to stay for one week with our 15-month-old baby : there was all the equipment we needed and the property was ideal for him to walk, play and pat farm animals. Peggy has been a lovely and considerate host : she welcomed us with fresh tropical fruits from her garden and she gave us good advice about what to do in North Kohala (Pololu trail and its picturesque black sand beach!) and in Big Island (Hilo Farmer's market and the waterfalls on the East coast of the island are totally worth it). The house is about 35 minutes driving from the sandy resort beaches, but you'll find some nice small beaches around at less than 15 minutes by car. We definitely recommend to stay at Gulch Farms if you are looking for a genuine experience in a calm and beautiful place. We hope we can return on our next trip to Big Island!

Quiet and peaceful neighborhood with resort style tropical landscaping and landscape lighting. Views of Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and Hualalai. Kohala Divers in Kawaihae is highly recommended for any activity on or in the water.
  • Paul’s place is one of the best AirBnBs my girlfriend and I have stayed. The view is absolutely stunning, the house is very nice and clean, the pool/pool area is fantastic, and it is a short drive to beautiful, public beaches. Paul is a great guy and goes out of his way to make sure you are having an enjoyable and comfortable stay. We did not want to leave! I cannot recommend this place enough and we will definitely be back soon.

  • Breathtaking. We enjoy our stay. We will be back!❤️

  • Such a great location and great place to stay. Paul is fantastic and his place is the perfect one for a Big Island vacation. His place was an easy drive to some of the most beautiful and lesser known parts of the island. Would definitely stay again.

  • Paul’s place was wonderful! Very clean and felt comfortable right away. A beautiful view!

  • As you've read in the other reviews, the pictures of the view are stunning and yet STILL fall short of how absolutely incredible the views truly are. We loved watching for whales, loved watching the sun set into the ocean, and loved sitting out underneath the stars (which rival our stargazing in the mountains of Colorado and near Yosemite National Park). The only hiccup is that we had perceived that the yard was totally private, and therefore that being in the living room would be totally private. However, since the yard is shared, and there are no curtains or blinds available in the living room, it's possible for Paul to see in. He was COMPLETELY respectful and NEVER came over to "our" side of the yard, so I have no issue with how he handled himself. It was just a bit disappointing to have expected total privacy and discovered that the yard was shared. Perhaps we misread the description and it's our fault, so I'm not complaining. But I do want you to have an accurate view of what you're situation will be so you can have the best possible experience! We would happily stay at Paul's place again, that's how wonderful it is. We would just have more accurate expectations this time and that would make our experience more wonderful overall.

  • Paul’s home is truly outstanding! It’s such a peaceful spot, and the view is absolutely mesmerizing! Paul is a very accommodating host, and his home is the perfect place for you to relax and enjoy your time on the island. Thank you so much, Paul!

    Heather2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Really loved the place. The views are much better than the photographs suggest.

    Kapeesh2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! Paul’s place exceeded our expectations. Felt like we were at our own private resort. With your own private pool, bedroom, kitchen, and living area, you have tons of room. The best part is the amazing views. You have incredible ocean views from the living room, bedroom, and pool. Two resort quality, comfy chaise lounges with an umbrella for shade. Floating in the pool, looking at the ocean and mountain views, seeing whales ...heavenly. Very, very quiet and peaceful area. 5-10 min drive to Hāpuna Beach. 10-15 min drive to Mauna Lani for groceries. Not a lot of nearby restaurants, so buy groceries to have on hand. Not for you if you want convenient access to eating out three meals a day. If you’re looking for views, solitude, and comfort, you will find it here. We will definitely be returning!

The jungle -a symphony of primordial forces; an organization of earth, and minerals, and life. We breathe it in and it elevates us. It is raw and real, invigorating and serene. Your Jungle Suite tries to capture some of this warmth and renewal by bringing the jungle to you. Relax and be present; it is through your stillness that you will discover the māna. Ask about our boat excursions and in-home massage.
Your private suite features a queen bed and attached private bathroom. Enjoy coffee or tea in the sun on the lanai, or have a nice breakfast looking at the maunas. This suite is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers.
This is a very quiet cul-de-sac with hardly any cars driving. Children often ride bikes up and down it so please drive safe.
  • Convient location, great hosts!!

  • A nice warm and inviting place to stay. Close to town.

  • This was my 5th visit to Big Island, Hawaii since 2018...love the North Kohala and Kona coasts, both...and my first room share experience as I typically rent small apartments or studios with a private entrance as I like to come and go as I please...I'm a 68 year old retiree and was visiting with my new girlfriend... That being said, that is part of the magic of staying with Dustin and Dion...they are the most gracious of hosts, full of the Aloha Spirit that draws me back to the Islands again and again. Being in the room share environment left us to be as secluded and/or connected with them over our 10 days and we had the best of both worlds...hours and hours of solitude in our private space (nicely appointed bedroom with comfortable queen bed) with connected full bathroom...along with hours of heartfelt sharing of our lives, our loves and our dreams...Think I can sincerely tell you that we left as friends...they treated us like family....and I would not hesitate to recommend a stay here... Many experiences come to mind. There was the day that Dustin offered me a delicious turmeric tea that was very nutritional and healing to my sore throat...Or the unforgettable drive they took us on out into the Waimea countryside to collect Ti Leaves that they could teach us the lovely Hawaiian practice to Ti Leave ceremonial weaving...And how wonderful to know that Dion is a gifted energy/body worker on premise and Dustin is equipped to offer guided boat trips for whales/dolphins and snorkeling... About the space...It's a spacious home with a large "great room" common area that is beautiful appointed with art that is pleasing to the eye. A grand dining room table anchors the center of the room, connecting a spacious sectional couch area with the well stocked gourmet kitchen. We felt very comfortable using the full kitchen for cooking, brewing tea or having our morning coffee and there was abundant room for lounging with Dustin, Dion and other guests. (I believe there are two other rooms for rent...ours the only one with a private, connected bath... Truth in lending, the driveway up to the front entrance is steep and sometimes we had to park below in the cup-de-sac and walk up...so be informed...there was road noise unless we kept our window closed and used the fans provided...also, being up at 2000 on the flanks of the 14,000 Mauna Kea volcano is a choice to embrace the joys of Hawaiian micro-climates so take that into consideration...From my perspective, each micro-climate is so unique and I love them all...this location has amazing energy...great star gazing...and...it is an exceptional location to explore North Kohala Coast, Waimea, Hamakua Coast...and even take reasonable jaunts down the Hilo Country and/or Kailua/Kona.. For a first time room share experience, I give this visit to the Big Island... 5 Alohas! Richard

  • We booked this room a day before arriving and Dustin and Dion were extremely accommodating with the short notice. Our private bedroom and bathroom was perfect for what we needed during our stay. Such a nice couple and their pups are adorable. We really enjoyed our stay.

  • This stay is in a perfect location! 10 minutes from several great beaches and less than that from the cute and quaint town of Waimea. Dustin and Dion were super friendly and accommodating. We would definitely look to stay here again if we ever (hopefully 🙏🏼) make it back to the big island!

    Thomas2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Dustin and Dion put a lot of sweetness into their hosting, and you will find lots of space in their home to prepare a meal, do your emails and relax. We loved meeting some fellow travelers, and had a good base for all our excursions. The farmers Markets in Waimea are in itself an event - do not miss it.

  • Dustin & Dion are great people: kind, relaxed, friendly, hospitable and make you feel welcomed and at home. Their place is clean, quiet, and very comfortable. Their sweet dogs are a an extra special part which brought an unexpected comfort of home while traveling :)

Our place is a cute, rustic cottage located in the countryside, surrounded by 850 acres , yet only 3 miles from Hawi Town. Since we live by pastures we sometimes have geckos (our local lizard). They are our friends, because they eat the bugs, which we sometimes have. We have awesome ocean & sunset views. During "Whale Season" you can actually hear the whales sing and flapping their tails. We are walking distance to the ocean and historical walking trails to King Kamehameha's birth site.
We call it a Hawaiian Experience.... it's a Special Place..
Very Private Surrounded by 850 acres of pasture land and the ocean
  • This little spot is a little patch of pure heaven. It is a lovely little cottage overlooking a beautiful yard and the ocean beyond. Birds and butterflies abound. Whales and dolphins in the distance. The cottage boasts a detached bathroom that is so cool. We loved the option of the outdoor shower since we spent lots of time at the beach. Linda and Marty and their family of 3 generation of dogs are just lovely.

  • Place was sooooo cute and unique, right down to the outdoor shower! LOVED IT!

    Uzek2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at a whale crossing, especially lazy mornings whale watching from bed. There are also several really amazing places hear the house — you can take a long walk to a pretty awe inspiring ancient Hawaiian temple, Mo’okini Heiau. The snorkeling down the road at Mahukona was also great!

    Jeannie2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This Airbnb is by far the greatest experience I’ve had on the big island- not only because of the stunning location, funky decor and adorable puppies but because the host, Linda is an absolute gem. We were warmly welcomed upon arrival by Linda and her three pups and shown to our beautiful room decorated with an assortment of nautical fixtures. Lynda went above and beyond to make our stay perfect! And the sunny weather and the splashing whales helped too. This Airbnb is an absolute must. My only regret is not staying longer. Enjoy every inch of this beautiful property. Thanks Linda! Woof Goldie!

  • It was five star for us. We had chirping birds, and a great view of the water with whales leaping with Maui in the background. The cottage, with its small, simple kitchen was charming and adequate for us. Although Linda and Marty live right next door, we had complete privacy. However, it would not be five star for anyone who expects a modern unit with fully appointed kitchen and inside dining table. And, if it were raining hard, it would be necessary to stay inside to be out of the rain, where dining would be cramped, and one would get wet getting to the bath house. In sum, it was our most cherished place among the five places that we stayed at during our vacation, but it is not necessarily the best place for everyone or in all weather conditions.

  • A great place to stay near Hawi. The views are amazing!

    Tamara2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place is wonderful. The location, the ambience, the wonderful dogs roaming around the yard. Like no place we have ever been. This spot is for the adventurous and those who love the offbeat. Hosts Linda/Marty are real characters in very best sense. Place is a keeper in the memory file.

    Thomas2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived after dark but were greeted by soft lighting and music our lodging. Linda left a handwritten greeting, suggestions for activities, treats, and bottled water. We felt so welcomed here! The place is just beautifully decorated and just creates an atmosphere for relaxing. It rained most of the time we were here so we couldn’t lounge in the spacious yard but inside was so nice just to lie on the bed and listen to the rain. And the separate bath house and outside shower is phenomenal! We will be back and highly recommend A Whale Crossing. Great secluded place yet close to so much beauty of the north side of the Big Island. The town of Hawi is a real gem as well!
