Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
We designed this space for a warm, cozy getaway. The overall goal of the design was a connection with nature and with the one you love, highlighting the beauty of the Driftless region. Use the onsite sauna or outdoor tub for a unique experience. Connect with nature in the Driftless Area of SW Wisconsin, drive to one of the attractions from this central location including the House on the Rock, Taliesin, Devil’s Lake Park, and more. Bring your canine companion as well, there is acreage to roam.

The space
Our modern space of 320 square feet packs a lot of amenities. Each area is thoughtfully designed and delineated. The floor plan and 11-foot vaulted ceiling are open to each area and they are designed to integrate with the others. There is a full bathroom with shower, toilet and vanity. The in-floor hot water heat provides a warm and cozy environment.

The ceiling is a Mondrian work of art with its maple wood grain and black reveal. The space has a modern Scandinavian design aesthetic with a nod to the owner's Norwegian heritage. The warm tones, wood grain, and textured textiles used throughout will wrap you up in "koselig" -the Norwegian word for cozy. The space is perfect for a couple or solo traveler.

Curl up with a good book in the cozy window nook of the living room area. Enjoy cooking in a fully stocked kitchenette that has everything you need for simple meals. Delight in your morning coffee ritual with our coffee & tea cart. The separate, full bathroom has on-demand hot water for long showers.

We put a focus on large, vented/screened windows that flood the space with morning and afternoon light. In the summer, open the windows to hear the tree frogs and crickets chirp away. The window locations were designed so that no neighbors are situated to see directly into the cabin. Window coverings are provided on all the windows and front door to give privacy.

Your outdoor patio space is over 350 square feet of stamped concrete, clean & sheltered under a grove of walnut trees. The patio was designed to give privacy and fantastic views of the hills and wildlife in any direction. Fencing is strategically placed to increase your privacy. There is now an outdoor clawfoot bathtub, for bathing under the stars and bistro lights. Comfortable patio furniture, an LP gas fire pit, and the ability to roll the table easily outside provide a great place to have a romantic dinner.

The cabin's high-speed WiFi allows guests to stay connected to work or school while enjoying a Driftless Area getaway. Cell service works for texts and short calls, we recommend WiFi calling. WiFi works outside on patio area as well and our WiFi is the fastest fiber-optic service available in Richland county. Our internet speed is rated at “Fast” at 120 Mbps and is extremely reliable.

The Utility cabin-we affectionately call "The Cedar" is between The Walnut and The Mighty Pine cabin. The Cedar has a 6-person cedar sauna in the true Nordic Finnish style. The sauna has all the amenities you need-bath robes, towels, and shower shoes. You can add water to the rocks as well. The Cedar cabin also has a top load washer and dryer for guest use.

There are no guests staying in the Cedar-it's purely laundry, utility, and sauna facilities-this building is shared with the other cabin on the property-The Mighty Pine cabin. There is signage available on the outside (you can see the red/green plaque from your cabin) to indicate when the sauna is occupied so you can have privacy. We are happy to show you how to use the sauna facility during your stay and robes are provided.

Guest access
You will access the Lower Farm property via state highway 58. It is easily found just north of Ithaca, WI a tiny, unincorporated burg of 75 people. There is a shared driveway to enter the property. The Walnut cabin is the building at the back of the property, with its own private parking area for up to 2 vehicles. It has a Schlage keypad for entry and self-check-in. There is also some acreage to walk and explore.

Other things to note
This is a dog-friendly property! There is one other residential cabin on the property-The Mighty Pine and a utility building- The Cedar- that houses a 6-person cedar sauna in the true Nordic Finnish style of dry heat. We live on the Upper Farm property, .5 miles north on State Highway 58 and it has a guest suite available as well.

On the Lower Farm property is The Mighty Pine cabin-the larger, first cabin you will see, located directly behind the large pine tree. It is fully ADA compliant/accessible. The Cedar, the cabin in the middle-is our utility cabin with a washer, dryer, bathroom, and 6-person sauna. The Cedar will be shared use by all of the units on the property.

We have absorbed design influences from our travels around the world and our past experiences as Airbnb guests into our design concepts used throughout the property and cabin. There is intentionality in everything we do. We feel all should be able to travel and have a space where anyone can enjoy the amenities with no barriers with no hastles, why we have no cleaning fee. We look forward to your stay!

Neighborhood highlights

Our location is nestled in the heart of the Wisconsin Driftless Area. You are greeted with a view of the rolling hills and narrow valleys from every window. You can take in the beautiful hardwood trees, plentiful wildlife, and rock formations surrounding you. The Walnut Cabin and Ridge & Valley Hospitality cabin properties are across the road from the Willow Creek, one of the most respected trout streams in Wisconsin. We can guide you to access this trout stream. We have creek views, not river views but you are only 20 minutes from the beautiful Wisconsin River and the Pine River.

Ithaca, our small burg of 75 people, with one school, one church, and one bar is a mile away. The friendliest people anywhere and a great place to live. You will see cattle on the hills, barns in the valleys, and tractors on the roads. Truly, quaint rural life. Amish will also be found in our idyllic neighborhood. We have lived here for 5 generations and we are known by everyone.

We are 10 Minutes to Richland Center and the Pine River Bike Trail, 30 minutes to Reedsburg, 45 minutes to Wisconsin Dells, Devil's Lake State Park, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesen in Spring Green, and 1 hour 5 minutes to Madison. Most love our central location for so many activities and find reasons to return and stay with us again and again. Richland County is the perfect home base for your time away.

Located on State Highway 58, easily navigated with roads kept clear in the wintertime. Light traffic noise is heard when you are outside but quiet when inside the cabin. You are surrounded by active agricultural land and fields with sounds of lowing cows nearby. Yet, you have the best fiber optic WiFi speeds in the area, sometimes surpassing big cities in connectivity.

A view of a small pond is visible from the property until late summer when a corn field obstructs the view but the view returns once harvest commences. There is no fishing or water play allowed on the pond. Wildlife surrounds you and bird-watching is a true delight.

This is a multi-site property consisting of 3 modern buildings with a shared driveway and entry point with separate parking areas for each cabin. Signage at the road's edge will greet you and solar lights will light the way up the driveway. There is one other rental cabin at the front of the property (The Mighty Pine) and another utility (The Cedar) cabin in the middle area with a 6-person Finnish-style dry sauna/laundry on-site. Your outdoor bathtub adjacent to your cabin is truly a delight to enjoy. We have an old stone foundation on the property salvaged for some possible uses in the future. The nearest neighbor is a half-mile away consisting of our extended family, as well as our home.

Marty is the tourism Director for the Greater Richland Area and he can direct you to the best restaurants, special events, and activities in the area. He retired from WEA and worked with teachers for over 20 years, most recently with Milwaukee Public Schools as a retirement/investment advisor. Teri has retired from working for Southwest Airlines as a flight attendant and has returned to the nursing profession-working at the local critical access hospital as an Infection Prevention/Employee Health nurse. They both do tours and experiences for Ridge & Valley Tours in all four seasons. This lower farm rental project has been a culmination of many hours of planning and design, passion and work, financial outlay and sweat equity, and God's good graces. We hope you enjoy!

My wife and I are happily married for 38 years, enjoy traveling and meeting interesting people. Now that our children are all grown we are much freer to travel and now have more $ to do so. Teri is a retired flight attendant and we have travelled extensively. We are suckers for a great restaurant, good wine, and warm weather. My goal is to share my love for Richland County with all visitors. It's a place where I was born and raised.
