Combating deception, scams, and abuse

Guests and hosts must interact honestly with each other on our platform. To combat deception, scams, and abuse, Airbnb prohibits the following kinds of behavior:

Scams and Misrepresentation: We don’t allow anyone to engage in fraud or provide false, misleading, or manipulated information to other users or to Airbnb. This includes:

  • Submitting fake or altered identification or documents.
  • Making false reports, claims, or credit card chargebacks.
  • Misrepresenting a listing, service, or experience. Note: It is not a misrepresentation for a host to list multiple rooms under a single representative listing in instances where the rooms are similar enough to be considered substitutes for each other (ex: in hotels or serviced apartments). However, these rooms must have the same amenities, bed configurations, size, decor, and address.

Threats, Manipulation, Abuse: We don’t allow anyone to use threats, manipulation, or abusive behavior to influence members of our community, including Airbnb representatives. This includes:

  • Using threats or intimidation to obtain or influence a payment, review, or other outcome.
  • Using abusive language (ex: excessive swearing, personal insults, or slurs), or engaging in manipulative tactics or harassment.
  • Attempting to manipulate Airbnb’s systems, programs (including coupons, gift cards, referrals, credits, Airbnb.org), accounts, or support channels.

Off-Platform Activity: To maintain the integrity of our community and transactions on Airbnb, we prohibit users from communicating, booking and paying, or sharing personal contact information outside of the platform. You can learn more about this prohibition, including limited exceptions, in our off-platform and fee transparency policy.

Enforcing these policies

If we determine that any community member violated our policies, we take appropriate action, including educating users on our policies, issuing warnings, suspending or removing listings, or suspending or removing the violating accounts.
