Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
At the Whistlestop Camp on the Greenbrier River, you can be the one that got away.
This modest two bedroom, one bath home is in a prime location to facilitate all of West Virginia's outdoor recreational opportunities. From the camp, you can drop a line in the water, swim with the kids, kayak with friends, or read a book in the hammock. It's only minutes from the southern gateway to the New River Gorge and about 40 minutes to Winterplace Ski Resort. Close to everything but away from it all!

The space
The Whistlestop isn't fancy, but has been described as "an idyllic slice of paradise". It is a single wide trailer with a large, sunny addition and a huge porch. This home offers a comfortable place with some of the best swimming and fishing on the Greenbrier River. The camp features outdoor fire pits for roasting marshmallows, a propane grill for cooking out, and includes a tent and sleeping bags for a special experience sleeping under the stars.

At the Whistlestop, you are only a few minutes from the New River Gorge National Park, the nation's newest National Park, and the historic town of Hinton. In addition to boating and fishing, local or nearby activities include hiking, biking, golf (a local 9 hole course is within a mile), horseback riding, and rock climbing. Area attractions include: Sandstone Falls (14 miles, 25 minutes), Bluestone State Park (9.5 miles, 20 minute drive), Bluestone Lake and Marina (8.8 miles, 17 minutes), Pipestem State Park (16 miles, 24 minutes),  the John Henry Historical Park (4.4 miles, 8 minutes), Winterplace Ski Resort (27 miles, 44 minutes), Snowshoe Mountain (105 miles, 2.5 hours), Organ Cave (34 miles, 45 minutes), Lost World Caverns (34 miles, 54 minutes), New River Gorge Bridge (54 miles, 1 hour, 20 minutes), Greenbrier River Trail (50 miles, 1.1 hour), Hatfield and Mccoy atv/utv trail system (73 miles, 2 hours), and access to the Appalachian Trail (32 miles, 42 minutes). We are from the area and would be happy to answer any questions you might have about local experiences or give you the contact information for local fishing guides, boat rentals, and livery services.

Guest access
This is a full house rental and guests have access to the whole house, porch and yard. Guests do not have access to the detached garage and one small cabinet.

Other things to note
The Whistlestop got its name because, like so many places in our area, there are train tracks just behind the place and a crossing requires the engineer to sound the whistle. The sound can be alarming but people generally get used to it within a day or so.
Rivers can be dangerous. Please wear a PFD (lifejacket) when you are on or in it. If you use our boats, you must wear a PFD while boating. The river is undammed so it does occasionally flood.
Because it is in a flood plain, the house is elevated. There are a lot of steps to get in. It isn't suitable for people with mobility issues.
