A wonderfully unique house 4 blocks from the Downtown Mall and close to UVA sleeps six. Hard to describe its awesomeness in words, so please view the pictures and find the video for a better feel for a place which is simultaneously old and new!

The space
The Recycled House is a unique structure in Charlottesville's lovely North Downtown neighborhood. It is constructed primarily from materials that have come from somewhere else and are getting a second life. It took over six years to collect the materials and use them in a thoughtful way. The house was designed as a guest house and a lot of effort has been put into building a place that's welcoming, interesting and fun! The materials give the place a lot of soul, the light from the 33 windows is fantastic and the location could not be better!

Charlottesville's historic Downtown Mall is just 4 short blocks away giving you access to over 60 restaurants within walking distance as well as movie theaters, concert venues, grocery stores and some great shopping. The University of Virginia is less than 2 miles away and accessible by the free trolley service. Monticello is less than 5 miles away--about 10 minutes by car.

Beds:
There's a king-sized bed in the main bedroom.
The upstairs loft has a full size sleeper sofa that sleeps two, and there's a queen-sized sofa sleeper downstairs in the living room. All the linens and towels are provided. The sofa sleepers have premium mattresses and soft lines. They are comfy!

The kitchen is fully equipped with top-of-the-line Bosch appliances. There's a side porch, an upstairs deck outside with a treehouse feel, and another deck (made out of aluminum bleachers!) off the kitchen in the back yard. There's a grill in the backyard you're welcome to use.

A washer/dryer is available off the upstairs bath.

Free wi-fi access is available.

The house is suitable for families with children. The staircase is a little steep, so you'll have to watch the little ones, as well as anyone with mobility issues.

If you're searching for a really unique space in a great location, I welcome you to The Recycled House!

Guest access
I don't live in The Recycled House. It's yours to enjoy.

Other things to note
The house is not baby-proofed. I have hosted many families with little ones, but the house is probably best suited to kids 3 years and older.

The stairs are quite steep and can be challenging for little ones and older folks.

When inquiring, please tell me a little bit about yourself, the purpose of your visit, and any special needs or requests.

I'm a web designer/developer and own my firm, drw Design. The Recycled House started out as a small idea and then took on a life of its own. It took over 6 years to collect materials from a TON of places to use in/on the house. Even the daylillies are recycled! (They came from a subdivision that was being torn down.) It's been really satisfying to save amazing materials from the landfill, dumpster, etc. and use them in a thoughtful and creative way. I've lived in Charlottesville since 1995 and love showing off this town! It's really hard to have a bad meal here. And it's really historic and pretty. There's always something interesting going on!
