Nestled in the quiet and forgotten village of Glenwood, we're smack between Eugene and Springfield. We're a mile from UO campus, a half-mile from I-5, and walking distance to downtown Springfield. And yet, the Willamette River is just a few blocks — both to the north and to the east — and our neighbors are raising chickens, goats, and geese.

We sit on a half-acre parcel with easy parking and easy access to everything. Bus rapid transit stops every 10 minutes, just two blocks away.

The space
The Murphy Suite is at the back of our ranch house. There's a small patio and a full-lite door that opens to a sunroom. (The glass floor tiles are beautiful, but may be a bit slick if your feet are wet, so please be careful.) The main room has a custom-built queen-sized Murphy bed. It's gorgeous and comfortable.

When the bed is up in its cabinet, there's plenty of room for lounging, TV watching, or dining. The kitchenette is designed for efficiency — microwave, toaster oven, electric skillet, coffee wizard, and a deep sink. The bathroom is new, with a shower that tells you the water temperature! (What will they think of next?)

Laundry is outside the bathroom to the right. The backyard is there to enjoy, but it is not fully fenced.

Guest access
You are welcome to enjoy the backyard and patio, as well as the laundry room.

Neighborhood highlights

Ahh, Glenwood! It has a storied past. 100 years ago, there was a very busy streetcar that passed right in front of our house every hour. (Now we have a modern streetcar called EmX that stops on Franklin Boulevard every 10-15 minutes, two blocks north.)

Glenwood is a quasi-industrial, unincorporated village of about 100 homes, nestled between Eugene and Springfield. We have car repair places two blocks north; the railroad and UPS depot are four blocks south. But in between, we're in the country! Neighbors have chickens, geese, goats, and more. And plenty of characters!

Because we're between busy and vital areas, we do have travelers on our streets. They sometimes talk to themselves as they walk or bicycle past. Some of our neighbors live in mobile homes. That doesn't make them bad people (They're not!), but it does make some people nervous. We're reclaiming the neighborhood by making the best house in the area even better with fruit trees, a marvelous garden, lots of fun little touches, and good people (That's you!) coming and going.

We're in the most accessible spot ever — a mile from UO campus, half a mile from I-5, a few miles south of RiverBend hospital, walking distance to downtown Springfield, close to the river and to parkland in three directions. And the morning breeze sometimes smells like fresh bread from the Franz Bakery ovens a few blocks south. Mmmm!

I'm a columnist for the daily newspaper and the town's lifestyle magazine. Decades of work in journalism has taught me to notice the details and to question the conventional wisdom. As a columnist and consultant, people rely on me to "think outside the box." As the former Executive Director for the American Institute of Architect's local chapter, I learned how the details reveal intent. When they work together, you get design excellence, but that's only the beginning. When you stay inside a space that's been carefully and intentionally designed, there's a certain sense of safety and a quiet delight. So here in this little world, these two rigors intersect. I design spaces that are not in a box, giving guests small surprises to make their visit meaningful and memorable. I'm also uniquely qualified to help people learn more about this special place in the world. And I love it.
