Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. Bearbrook Cabin, nestled on the side of a mountain, offers modern amenities in a rustic natural setting. Watch the brook run down the mountain while sipping coffee on the deck. Listen to the birds and river while working remotely in the sun room. Conveniently located to 4-season recreation: hiking, hunting, fishing, swimming, boating, skiing, snowmobiling, ATVing and more. 30 min from Rumford, Bethel, Sunday River, Black Mountain, and Mt. Abram!

The space
Upon entering the cabin, guests notice the large open area with a sunroom, dining room and kitchen. This open space is great for families and small groups to gather for eating as well as relaxing and enjoying various activities together or apart. Above the main room is the sleeping loft, a great space for kids to also play, read, and hang out. The bathroom and two bedrooms offer comfortable and quiet privacy from the main area of the cabin.

Pets: We welcome your well-trained, house-broken furry companion. We will provide furniture coverings if your pet would like to join you on the comfy seats. We ask that pets are in appropriate crates whenever the owner is out of the house. Due to insurance requirements, we must know the name, age, and breed (or mix of breeds) in advance. Young animals and certain dog breeds are prohibited by our insurance. Each pet must be pre-approved by the host when making the reservation. Once a reservation is made, you will need to send a photo of the pet to the host to keep on record for insurance purposes. We do charge a small pet fee, which is added to the reservation.

Sunroom: The brilliant sunroom is also the main entry area of the house. There are several coat hooks for all your gear. The sunroom is furnished with a sofa, upholstered chairs, and tables. One end table has outlets for ease of charging electronics. The 62'' Roku Smart TV is swivel mounted to the wall so it can be manipulated for viewing near the island bar. The Roku TV is in "Guest Mode" which allows for some free viewing content as well as allowing you to sign into any of your streaming accounts (Prime, Netflix, Hulu, etc.) The most loved feature is the gas fireplace. It is easily operated by following the instructions on the attached metal card.

Kitchen: The galley kitchen is fully equipped with large and small appliances, dishes, glasses, eating and cooking utensils, cookware, bakeware, and other necessities. We include starter supplies of soap, dishwasher detergent, paper towels, cooking oil, salt, pepper, coffee with filters, tea, and sweeteners.

Appliances: full size refrigerator with freezer, dishwasher, electric oven and glass-top stove, microwave, blender, hand mixer, toaster, 12-cup drip coffee maker.

Dining Area: Solid maple round dining table with five parsons chairs. Additional seating is at the island bar with three bar height stools.

Reading Area: Rocking chair with bookcase filled with an eclectic collection of non-fiction and fiction. There are also New England and Maine field guides, hiking guides as well as informational brochures on the area.

Bathroom & Laundry Room: Newly renovated with all new fixtures, including a 4-foot shower, vanity with large countertop, and comfort height toilet. Bath sheets, bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths are supplied as well as bath wash, shampoo, and conditioner. A hair dryer, first aid kit, and other bathroom supplies are in the vanity cabinet. The bathroom also contains a washer and dryer and a small supply of detergent and fabric softener sheets.

First Floor Bedroom: King-size bed with a new hybrid memory foam/coil mattress. Bedding includes 100% cotton sheets, plush blanket, down-alternative duvet, and quilt. A small dresser and closet are available for clothing storage. The bedside lamps have outlets or USB ports for convenient electronic charging.

Second Floor Bedroom: King-size bed with a new 10" memory foam mattress. Bedding includes 100% cotton sheets, plush blanket, down-alternative duvet, and quilt. A small dresser and closet are available for clothing storage. Please note that this room is built under the eaves of the roof of the cabin and this makes the ceiling low especially near the foot of the bed (please see pictures.) Taller guests may not be comfortable on the second floor of the cabin. The bedside lamps have outlets or USB ports for convenient electronic charging.

Sleeping Loft: Two twin beds with new 8" memory foam mattresses. Bedding includes 100% cotton sheets, plush blanket, down-alternative duvet, and quilt. A small dresser is available for clothing storage. There is a bookcase containing a large collection of children's books for various ages and some small toys and activity books. The loft has a very low ceiling (see photos) and thus is designed with children in mind (although the beds are suitable for adults.)

PLEASE NOTE that the loft does not have doors and does not offer much privacy nor soundproofing. There is a wooden railing on one side, and it is open to the main room below. Noise will carry from the first floor into the loft. The other side of the loft is open to the stairway landing. The second floor bedroom is only accessed through the loft.

Office space: The landing on the stairs on the second floor offers a unique space for a desk, chair, lamp, and power strip for those who need to work or study remotely.

WiFi and Phones: The house has Spectrum High Speed Cable Internet at 100 mbps. We find that it is very reliable in this area. Due to the mountains, the cell phone reception can be spotty in this area. The best carriers for this area are Verizon and US Cellular. We recommend enabling WiFi calling on your phone for consistent access to phone services while in the cabin.

Backyard: The backyard offers a lot of hilly space for exploring (old logging road to hike up!) as well as two large flat areas for entertaining. Out the back door of the house is a large wooden deck. On the side of the house is a large paver area. Summer and Fall, there is a large picnic table and Weber charcoal grill available on the deck and a firepit and Adirondack chairs on the paved area. Please note that due to heavy snow and ice, we store all of these items away in the winter.

Parking: There is plenty of parking for 3+ vehicles/trailers. We ask that you let us know if there will be multiple vehicles/trailers.

Property: The cabin is located on a several acre property with lovely mountain views to the north. The cabin is easily visible from the road, yet it has a secluded feeling as it is nestled on the side of a mountain with trees surrounding three sides of the yard. There are neighbors nearby, but due to the terrain and vegetation, none are immediately visible.

Guest access
Guest have full access to the cabin and the surrounding property behind the cabin. You are welcome to walk, hike, or snowshoe the property, explore the boulders on the mountain side, or sit and listen to the babbling brook on the back deck.

Other things to note
- $35 fee per pet, extra $20/person/night for over 4 people.

- Maximum of 4 people (adults and children) for stays longer than one week.

- All pets must be pre-approved before booking by providing: name, age, breed. After booking, we ask for a photo of the pet(s). This is an insurance requirement. Thank you for understanding.

SUMMER Hikers: We do not offer a regular shuttle service to/from the Appalachian Trail and other area trails. However, if we are around (which is often), please feel free to message, call, or text for a complementary ride to/from the trailhead.

Summer Guests: Due to the configuration of the cabin and its window sizes, there is only one window air conditioning unit on the first floor. It does a good job of cooling the entire first floor. With the ceiling fan on, the loft is cool too. However, the second floor bedroom does not recieve much of this cool air. We have provided fans for this room.

AREA: The Western Maine region is fairly rural and Andover is located about 30 minutes from the nearest grocery stores. There are not any 24-hour stores within a reasonable distance. Guests should be prepared to bring supplies that they will immediately need with them, especially when arriving at night as most stores in the area close at 8-9 pm.

There is one 24/7 (card only) gas station in Andover. After leaving Andover, the nearest gas stations are about 20 miles away, guest should be aware so that they don't run out of gas before they get to their destination.

Depending on your carrier, cell phone service especially data can be spotty in this area. Many people can receive and make phone calls from the cabin (or use WiFi calling!) but while traveling through the area, you will encounter several dead zones. We do have 100 mbps WiFi at the cabin to help with your data needs and there are several establishments in the area that have free WiFi available.

Welcome travelers! I am Lora and live in the middle of a tiny but beautiful small town that we like to call "Nature's Playground." I would love to share this special corner of the world with you and your family and friends. I was born a bit of a nomad, living in many places in the midwest and east coast of the US as a child. I then took a job that allowed me to travel extensively and for extended periods internationally. Some of my most formative experiences have been living and experiencing other cultures and I like to give some of that to my children by teaching them other languages and cooking exotic foods. I truly love nature and all that it has to offer. Surrounded by mountains in Andover, Maine, I have found fresh air, warm neighbors and peace in a chaotic world. Stepping out my door, I am within a few steps of trails for hiking, horseback riding, and x-country ski/snowshoe. Biking and atv/snowmobile trails are also very close. My family enjoys the alpine skiing, swimming, boating, fishing and hunting that are all within a short drive from home. What I most like is to frequent my neighbors' farms for local foods, work in my gardens and forage in the woods for wild herbs and edibles. As a host, I would love to share some of this simple natural beauty with you and provide you with a comfortable country farmhouse stay.
