Places to stay in Mount Batten

Places to stay in Mount Batten
Turnchapel is a unique working village ( not chocolate box pretty). To the west is Yacht Haven marina and Mountbatten. There a two award winning pubs on the doorstep and many cafes/ restaurants within walking distance. The water taxi leaves/ returns from Mountbatten every 15 minutes and will take you to the Mayflower steps and the Barbican in 4 minutes for £2.00! You can access the water for paddle boarding from the house and there is a local surf spot 20 minutes away by car. The beaches!
The Double room has a lounging area and TV. There are tea/coffee making facilities. The single room is adjacent to the double. Guests have exclusive use of the Carrara marble wet room W/C on that floor. We have an inflatable sleeping pod to suit 2/9 year olds if required .The space is at the top of the house and affords full privacy. Please be aware- the rooms are at the top of the house and require ‘ stair walking’.
The village is part of the South West Trail. The Mayflower steps and the Barbican are a great attraction. This area is part of the Cycle link which runs around Saltram House and up to Dartmoor National Park. There is plenty of access to waterborne activities and Boat trips for Maritime history. Beautiful coastal walks and ,of course, the beaches. There is also a Golf Course with coastal views a five minute drive away.
  • Cathy's place was stylish and had great decor. The upstairs space has cleverly used spaces and was really comfortable. The linen was super soft. There were snacks and other thoughtful touches. Cathy was a great hostess and warm and hospitable. I'd highly recommend staying here.

  • Really nice place, clean, tidy and stylish. I found more than I expected. Thanks Cathy.

  • Everything was great. Cathy was welcoming, and the rooms were lovely. I heartily recommend.

  • Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!! WOW!!! This is EXACTLY how an Air B n B should be. Wonderful accommodation, amazing location and outstanding hospitality and value from Cathy and Jago. The room was spacious, sparkling clean and bright as was the wet room and there’s a second bedroom to boot!!! You could feed an army with the free snacks provided and I’m actually worried that if I write too good a review I won’t be able to get back there soon as it’ll be fully booked 🤣 I’ve stayed in many Air B n B’s and this is by far the best and I’m genuinely excited to have found my secret bolt hole to get away from it all. Cathy and Jago are two of the nicest hosts you could wish to meet, they’re so laid back and easygoing but at the same time nothing is too much trouble for them and they make you feel genuinely welcome and let you get on with whatever you want to do day or night. Highly highly recommend that if you’re in the area, or even if you’re not, head here for a fantastic chilling break. Pete

  • We had an amazing and most comfortable stay at Cathy's and Jago's house, everything we possibly needed was provided, Cathy gave us great tips regarding our stay before we arrived and Jago was on hand with the most interesting anecdotes of the place's history and organising a table for us at the local pub at the last minute on Saturday night, which we really appreciated. All in all a most intriguing weekend. Thank you so much for your hospitality Cathy and Jago! From Maren & Angela

  • Another pleasant and very comfortable stay at Cathy’s place.

  • Airbnb at its best. Booking, directions and check-in straightforward. Room very comfortable and en-suite sparkling. Quiet location in the narrow streets of Turnchapel. Choice of pubs, and cafe for breakfast. Perfect for our requirements. The host Linda was friendly and welcoming.

    David2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • Linda was so helpful and welcoming, the room was homely and well equipped and the bed comfortable. Ideal accommodation for someone who, like me, is attending a course at Turnchapel Wharf. Thank you, Linda. :-)

    Jennifer2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay, wish I had longer to enjoy the area but it was a very quick stop over. The room is beautiful and has an en-suite, which is rare in most Airbnb’s in the Plymouth area. The host even provided cereal for the morning and a fold out table so I could work in the evening. It was very cosy and would definitely stay again :)

    Emma Katherine2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • I can’t recommend Linda’s place highly enough. The room is very well presented, with good quality furniture and honestly touches.

Lots of nice cafes in the area, including the Guard Room and Hooe’s new Micro Bakery. Close to South West Coastal path and superb beaches. Guest are welcome to use the kitchen, garden, lounge room. Behaved Dogs are welcome.
There is lots of beaches and coastal paths in the area like bovisand, wembury and Jenny cliff. Along with great pubs like the Clovelly bay inn.
  • A welcome host who was happy to answer our queries. Whole property was spotless and the comfy bed provided an excellent night's sleep. A short distance from the ferry across to the Barbican makes this location ideal if you want to be near the city but in a quiet location. There is a couple of good pubs within a short walk for dinner.

  • Jamie's house is very clean and well kept. He was a very good host, there was good communication and he was very helpful.

    Kim2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place, light and airy. The room is stylish, the bedding is outstanding quality, very comfortable bed. The host was very kind and shared some helpful tips about the area. Great location for costal walks and friendly pubs with great views and lovely people.

    Marina2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Upon our arrival at lake side we were met by Jamie, he was a very pleasant host, he was very nice and Showed us around his home, which was absolutely stunning, very clean, and bright, once he showed us around downstairs, and told us we could use the full kitchen facilities, he then took us up to our room, which was on the top floor, with a full en-suite bathroom, it also had lovely views over Hooe lake, which was great, the room was in immaculate condition, and the bed was very comfortable like the rest of his home. Once we had settled in Jamie then told us that we was his 1st guests which we were chuffed to bits about! Jamie also advised us on places to eat, saying that The Clovelly Inn was great for food, and it was only a short distance away, So we went there you will not be disappointed with the food, it was amazing, hence we went back there on the 2nd night lol, Jamie was a brilliant host, he had a beautiful home, and gave us some great suggestions on places to eat, both me and my wife would highly recommend staying at Jamie’s, if you need a stop over in Plymouth, With a lovely home like that staying for business or pleasure you will not be disappointed and we are very thankful to Jamie for allowing us to stay in his home. • The apartment was very modern and clean. A nice bathroom with a big shower. The bed was really comfortable although there was a dip in the middle of the bed, I think a slat might have been missing. The apartment is in a good location, and the host and housekeeper were very helpful and accommodating.

1970's Colvic motorboat with full-service berth In Queen Anne's Battery marina, just opposite Plymouth's Barbican.
About as unique and authentic as it gets, this lovely restored working boat can be your home for your stay in Plymouth. Now, this is a Colvic, not a Princess! So it has a V-bed configuration which basically means two single bed areas in a V shape where either your toes or heads will be touching! it's certainly cosy/intimate! There's a fold-away dining table with comfortable seating, excellent heating system, double hob meths burner, mini cooker, mini fridge, record player, Marshall speaker, sea toilet, aft deck area for dining and cocktails, foredeck area for...cocktails, and the best views in Plymouth. The marina is full-facility meaning there's parking, a shower block, a bar/restaurant, cafe and shop.
Rather than cut and paste from Google, I'll give you my view of Plymouth:

We have two friendly and well behaved dogs, medium size who are always partial to a cuddle!!

Friendly neighbourhood. Parking is on road, first come first served basis! Please park considerately, not leaving huge gaps between cars or wheels turned out. Tuck in wing mirrors. There is a local and friendly pub just minutes walk from the house. A local store, award winning cafe, hairdressers and florists are also only a couple of minutes walk away. Close to bus route to the city. Wembury beach and Dartmoor also only 15 mins drive away. Great base to start exploring South Devon and the South Hams.

Stunning views from comfortable, quiet, waterside home on the marina at Mountbatten. Contemporary style, ideal for family/ couples/ friends on a break. It's a town house with stairs, not suitable for those with mobility issues or children under 12. The three tranquil bedrooms are on the first and second floors, all with dedicated bathroom. Open plan living on ground floor with terrace. Utility room. Parking on driveway for 2 cars. Private road.
On the waters edge, looking right into the marina so perfect for watching boating enthusiasts. Amazing views and sunsets. The famous South West coast path passes the home. Three lovely bedrooms all with digital radio & TV, own dedicated bathroom or ensuite with rain head shower. Sleep well (black out curtains) in the very comfortable beds / feather duvets with good quality linen and towels. Top floor suite has a luxurious bathtub (plus separate walk- in shower) - indulge in the bubbles & bath crystals supplied. Two bedrooms both have double beds whilst the top floor room offers a super king bed but this can also convert to twin beds (please advise if you require twin beds option when booking). Open-plan living on the ground floor, with terrace overlooking the marina, offers comfortable seating for 6 for dining and relaxing - dishwasher, Neff electric oven & induction hob, microwave. Well equipped kitchen with utensils, basic condiments etc. Wall mounted TV and electric wall mounted flat screen fire for extra cosiness. Gas boiler for hot water & central heating, solar panels for electricity generation, plus other eco-friendly utilities. Utility room with w/m, wc/ wash basin on ground floor. Hair dryer in family bathroom. The Bridge bar/ restaurant is conveniently next door and Turnchapel village 10 mins walk away has lovely pubs and a waterside café. Send me a message if you have any questions/ need more recommendations.
This home is in a quiet, residential location but close enough to enjoy the bright lights and entertainment of Plymouth city. The regular Mountbatten ferry service takes 5 mins to reach the Barbican in the heart of old Plymouth where you will find the famous Plymouth Gin distillery, the newly re-furbished Mayflower steps, Plymouth Hoe and traditional naval public houses. Dartmoor is within view of the house and the lovely market town of Tavistock is about 45 mins drive northwards. Route 27 offers a gentle cycle ride towards Dartmoor - recommend the Skylark Pub at Clerebrook via the safe, off road cycle path. Cornwall is easily accessible for beautiful surfing beaches, coastal walks and the Eden project & the coastal towns of Kingsbridge and Salcombe in the South Hams are only 30-40 mins drive away. There are easy access walks and local beaches nearby. Recommend taking the ferry to Cawsands beach. Maps & guides about local places of interest, left out for you. This is where the Devonians go on holiday, must mean something right! The unspoilt coast is ideal for a stroll, picnic and swim in the sea. With the warmest climate in the South, the sun will hopefully be shining warming up the bustling towns such as Newquay or St Ives in the north or Fowey, Polperro and St Mawes in the south of the county.
  • This apartment is beautiful! Sea views, large and airy but still really warm. Gorgeous. Wish we could have stayed longer!

  • Steve’s place is just great, the location second to none, with very good communication throughout to ensure our stay went well. Lots of luxury with some lovely and thoughtful extra touches. Gorgeous beds and bedding, great showers and bathrooms, toastie and warm and really cosy generally. We stayed as family group for a long overdue family reunion and having three en-suites made it a far nicer option than a hotel. Being able to relax with those views and just chill, if only one night was total bliss. Will be highly recommended by us all.

  • The first thing all my party did was walk around videoing every room, such was their delighted reaction upon entering this superb apartment.. The pictures really don’t do this place justice, views from the enormous lounge windows over a low wall are of the sea, no other buildings restrict.. Superb attention to detail, good WiFi beautiful white towelling, under floor heating in our bathroom.. 4 bedrooms (3 en-suite).. On road parking spaces provided at £7-50 which, when we studied the parking meter charges nearby was a great deal.. Very large lounge, Alexa being a nice touch.. downstairs to light airy bedrooms with remote controlled blinds.. Well equipped kitchen area, dining table fridge and freezer etc: Burlington taps and showers! this place just oozes quality and attention to detail, obviously a labour of love which we all greatly appreciated.. 10/10

The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Very handy for a couple of local pubs and walks along the South West Coastal Path. Lots to do in the area.

Fully furnished top floor self contained apartment accessed via an external spiral staircase. Breathtaking views over the River Plym and situated near a free slipway for launching boats. The coastal path is adjacent to the property as is Yacht Haven where boat storage is available. There is off road parking. The village of Oreston has no through traffic, there is a village green with family pub and local shop. Relax in this quiet unique apartment only four miles from the city centre.
There are two bedrooms one has two single beds and the turret bedroom has a double bed. The bathroom has a large walk in shower. There is an open plan kitchen lounge with breathtaking views over the river. The kitchen has fully integrated appliances i.e. Freezer, fridge, dishwasher, cooker, hob, kettle and microwave. The apartment covers the whole top third floor of our property with a staircase leading to the rooftop terrace.
We love the neighbourhood as it has a lovely village feel with paper shop, pub, and florist all within walking distance in the village. There is also a cafe The Mess Room located a short walk from the house on the coastal path if you fancy a cooked snack! The location is brilliant as it is quiet and peaceful so no disruption from the city centre noise yet the property is only a yew minutes drive away from the City Centre. Enjoy the sun by day whilst watching the boats on the river, the sunset is magical, with the lights twinkling and reflecting on the sea at night.

  • Perfect little break away , could not fault it at all and I’m quite a fussy person , was greeted as soon as we arrived and the apartment was spotless and very modern . Very happy ladies 😘

    Maddie2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • We booked a 1 bedroom at Strathmore Apartments on short notice in the summer of 2019. The booking process (via Airbnb) was painfree and quick. Soon after we received a comprehensive email with all booking details. I had made a request for an infant cot and high chair which was promptly acknowledged and confirmed by Allison. Brilliant service ✌🏻 We were all greeted warmly upon arrival and Allison provided a tour or the property. She is an absolutely lovely host and had a chat with us to understand our plan and provide recommendations as needed. Luckily I have lived in Plymouth in the past so was able to bounce some ideas. The apartment we had was on the second floor and we had an elevator for convenience. The property itself was very well furnished with all modern amenities and facilities you would expect and more. Location of the apartment is fantastic with Plymouth Hoe less than 2 minutes walking distance and all the main attractions of the city within walking reach. We really loved our stay and made memories that we will cherish for eternity. I would highly recommend Strathmore Apartments without hesitation if you are looking for a comfortable and convenient stay in Plymouth. No hotel stay comes close to this experience 👌🏻

From this stunning modern home you can enjoy breath taking panoramic views out across the Mount Batten Marina, Plymouth Hoe, the historic Barbican and then on to the River Plym Estuary, with the beautiful backdrop of Dartmoor's rolling hills. Explore quaint local pubs, within walking distance. The incredible coastal path walks and beautiful blue flag beaches. Plymouth and its new shopping mall is a short drive or water taxi ride away or perhaps take a day trip Dartmouth, Salcombe or Cornwall.
  • The house had great views over the marina and an amazing living space. The pictures were very representative of the house. The host was great and very quick with responses

  • Judith’s place was amazing we had an amazing time cooking and playing games... that scrabble really had our competitive streaks going! Great communication with Tracy, who send a list of vegan places nearby for us.

    Quiraynis Maria2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • I kind of dont want to say how wonderful this place is. Because I want to keep it a secret. Only because I want to keep it all to myself. However I also want to tell the world how fantastic Judith's place is. The location is stunning. Tardis springs to mind. From the front door it's like a smart fresh looking entrance like many other properties. However when you open the front door you step into this amazing space of modern very large open plan living space. Which as you walk towards the back of the house it opens up the most stunning view over Plymouth, seen through ceiling to floor glass windows and doors which open out on to a gorgeous patio. My daughter turned to me and said. Mum this is what I want my house to look like. The visit was made extra special by the welcome gifts we recieved from our host Judith and Tracy. The hosts went over and above what we ever imagined. I will be back. I am sure of it. It had everything you need for a good stay. We wanted for nothing. It was all there. If I was to rate the house out of 10. I would easily want to go way beyond 10. This place is a must.

    Theresa2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Waterfront Pad is nothing short of spectacular! I had thought that it couldn't possibly be as amazing as the photos but I was wrong! The whole stay was fabulous, comfortable beds, everything you need in the kitchen, clean throughout, and that view is to die for!! Our only regret is that we couldn't have stayed longer. I can't rate this place highly enough. Judith and Tracey have thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. You will not be disappointed!!

    Aneata2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • We were delighted when we walked through the door at Judith and Tracy’s! The photos do not do this place justice, that view you just can’t beat! The house was sparkling clean, lots of comfy spaces, a really well equipped kitchen and beautiful garden. It’s also in a really handy spot, the ferry just takes 5 minutes and you’re right at the Barbican. Tracy was on hand to answer any questions we had and usually within minutes! Everyone loved it so much there are plans afoot for next year!!

  • We had a great time at the Blue Barnacle, it's a nice cozy cottage with great views over the water. We would really recommend eating at Lulu and Dollys Micro-Bakery, which is just down the road. The cakes are fantastic! If you take the ferry over the water then Gertie/Bertie's is a great place for a snack and some ice cream!

  • Benjamin's place was an absolute haven during the stormy weather. We were working on a boat locally and it was so nice to come back to somewhere warm and toasty with everything we needed. It was the sort of place we wished we were staying for a holiday, not work. Then we could have enjoyed the books and the board games as well as the location. Thanks for having us stay.

  • Nice, cosy cottage which was clean and tidy on arrival. The log burner was a great feature. We enjoyed playing games as a family and watching some of the dvds available at the property. It was interesting to show the children how to use the record player, we are tempted to buy our own now! We had a lovely meal at the Clovelly Inn and used Morrisons for supplies. Follow the acorn signs for a good walk.

Directly accessed from the SW coastal path it is simply jaw dropping. It has Art Deco accommodation to match with a stunning first floor living room with deck to make the most of the views, dining room and superbly appointed kitchen.5 double bedrooms ( 4 on the ground floor and 1 upstairs ) , 3 with en suite. Oh and a heated indoor swimming pool!!
The accommodation comprises a large entrance hall with hallway leading to the four downstairs bedrooms and swimming pool shower room. Two of the ground floor bedrooms have en suites and one gives direct access onto the deck and garden. The pool is accessed through the pool shower room and there is a door from the garden as well. Upstairs is the master bedroom and en suite. The lounge is located at the end of the house with stunning views across Plymouth harbour and beyond. The lounge opens up onto the upper deck. There is a large dining room with seating for all guest and a superb kitchen. There is also a WC on this floor. There are extensive lawned gardens as well.
Victoria House enjoys a fabulous elevated position with stunning panoramic views and is located directly off the SW coastal path. The National Marine aquarium, Barbican, Hoe and city centre are all within walking distance. It is not in a residential area though and is approached through the Cattedown and Prince Rock industrial estates. Once in the grounds the property is very private but we would like to make guests aware that the Interfish factory is near by in the industrial estate and there can be a fish smell if the wind is from the east - it is normally from the south and west.

  • A wonderful accommodation suitable and ample to host a larger group of people. Myself and my family stayed here in early November for a family event and we couldn't speak any higher praise for the courtesy and communication from Bridget. The house itself is very clean, tidy and has all the amenities you could need. The area is stunning and any stay here is bound to be a very memorable and happy one. :)

    Alex2017-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a wonderful time in Plymouth, we felt quite comfortable, we could enjoy the marina which was right out the back patio door, take the ferry to the Hoe and Barbican area, a few restaurants in walking range and walking/ hiking places also. The stairs in the house were a bit challenging, 3 flights total. First floor is the kitchen, laundry room, small bathroom (toilet and sink) small bedroom. 2nd floor is living room and 1 bedroom and bathroom with walking shower. 3rd floor is master bedroom with jacquzi tub and a tiny little crows nest room with a bed and very small shower up the stairs from the master bedroom. The decor in the house was welcoming; we loved the red cabinets in the kitchen. We spent more time in the kitchen visiting with each other and U.K. Family than upstairs. This was a GREAT first experience with AirBnB and we know we will book others in the future.

  • A group of us have been working locally and needed a bigger place to stay after our group size increased. Neal and Tracey's place was ideal. After some long cold days on the boat there were plenty of showers for us to jump into, great laundry facilities for us to wash and dry our clothes in and a table long enough that we could turn one end into the site office and still sit and eat at the other! Lots of space for each of us to spread out in the very generous rooms and we have all talked about returning here for holidays with friends and their families. What a great space.

    Hayley2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay at St Anne’s - Neal and Tracey have such a special place in Plymouth. Amazing facilities that cater to a large group and multiple spaces (bar area, pool, lawn plus inside spaces) for people to relax and enjoy. Communication was amazing - everything that we needed was catered for and they were both super easy to get hold of. Highly recommend St Anne’s, and hopefully we’ll be back soon!

    Olivia2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This house is everything we needed and more! A fun weekend Away with lots of friends and family and this house made it! Neil and Tracy were incredibly accommodating. Would definitely go back again!!

    Charlotte2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Just returned home after a weekend stay here for my mother’s 50th birthday. After looking through the photos of the house we were very excited to visit, and WOW the photos didn’t do this house justice. Neil and Tracey were amazing throughout our stay and always on hand to help with anything. As a group of 18 of us everyone thoroughly enjoyed the stay, just 1 unfortunate thing is that our stay wasn’t long enough! Wouldn’t hesitate in booking again!

    Liam2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Neal and Tracey were the best hosts, unfortunately we got stuck in bad traffic on the way down to Plymouth due to road closures so we arrived very late but Tracey very kindly stayed up to welcome us. The pictures do not do the house justice and the views are exceptional, we will definitelybe staying again very soon.

    Chloe2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • AMAZING HOUSE! Neal and Tracey were so welcoming and kind, couldn't have asked for a better trip for my friends and I. Would definitely recommend !

  • Neal and Tracey's place is so beautiful, i'm so glad I picked this house for my niece's first birthday. The pool and hot tub was amazing! We felt at home walking around and enjoying the scenery which you don't get much of in London. The house is very clean and spacious, with a warm ambience. I can't wait to rebook it again next year!
