The 4 storied Bembea house reflects the fascinating charm of Swahili architecture mixed with electric furnishing and a personal touch of finest style and comfort. It's situated on the edge of the picturesque village Shela, alongside the dunes that fringe the long stretch of Shela Beach. Located only a few steps from the famous Peponi Hotel
“In all aspects Bembea house is exquisite. In terms of location, it is within a stone's throw from anything you might need.. Restaurants, curio shops or the beach. It's also super easy to find in the maze of back alleys that make up Shela. The house itself is a stylish getaway, the absolute epitome of 'Swahili chic', with a curated personal touches. It's filled with beautiful art pieces and every amenity you would ever need. Sammy and Johnson prepared our lovely meals daily (optional) and were always available to give hints and tips to maximize your stay. This place is 100% recommended.”

“Words cannot describe this experience. Honestly the best Airbnb and hotel experience I have had, ever. Period. I was having a bad experience at another Airbnb, and I messaged the host (David, the owner) in desperation as our current Airbnb was without power in the dead heat. David responded within minutes agreeing to host us and sent Safari to get us within 30 minutes. With my wife and I now with all our luggage in a hotel with no heat, exhausted, and frustrated with our current situation, Safari showed up with a huge smile and was happy to grab our bags. We began the journey of a 3-4 minute walk. We were tired, sweaty, and just about out of gas when we arrived into this place. When we got in, within seconds Abhu came around the corner with ICE COLD face towels. They took our bags and told us to relax. As we sat with our faces now covered in this towel, Abhu comes back with coconuts filled with coconut water with straws and flowers. This blew us away and we knew we were in for a treat. They gave us a tour of the villa. It is a PALACE! STUNNING. HUGE rooms, LOTS of fans. Well ventilated. Quiet. Big bathrooms. Tons of windows, yet can close all of them if needed. A super comfortable bed. Amazing rooftop. We went down to the cold pool to relax. One of the owners, David, came to greet us and spent 30 minutes with us helping us, giving suggestions, and getting to know us as we relaxed in the cool pool that was PERFECT for a 95+ degree day. There are many highlights from our stay: Homemade breakfast that was essentially customized down to everything we wanted: fresh juice, eggs, pastries, coffee, fruit, toast, for an extremely reasonable price and made by Johnson, who was fantastic. Seems like every time we left the room, they came in the spruce up everything: turndown, more water, fresh towels, the works. On the second day of breakfast, David came and spoke to us for hours telling us about the history of the building, sharing how he acquired the property and it is clear he put a lot of passion into this. He even showed us pictures of the renovations. It was incredible to learn the history. At night when we were walking out and about, we even saw Safari taking other guests around to show them where to go. Our one of our last days, we also saw David and the team putting up a Christmas tree together. A super nice touch around the holidays. On our last morning, Safari took us to the airport and wished us well with a huge grin on his face with both of his arms waving goodbye to us as we crossed security. We will miss him, Abhu, and Johnson for sure. They are a complete delight and have incredible hospitality. This place may be a bit more dollars than other places in Lamu, yet I promise if you stay here, you will not be disappointed. It is worth it. This experienced helped make our trip one of the best, EVER! THANK YOU Safari, Abhu, Johnson, and David! I now know I will likely forever be disappointed in the future for not having an experience like they delivered to us.”
Due to Corona restrictions we are blocking all reservations until August. During this time we'll add a new floor to separate eating and lounging areas. Me and my family stays here around two months a year. Two adults, one toddler and one four-year-old at the last visit. Kahindi takes care of laundry, shopping, cooking and more. He stays at the ground floor and has been helping out since the house was built.
“Had a wonderful stay. Jonas was very responsive and helpful with the booking and the house was immaculate and a lovely space. Kahindi was such a lovely man and really looked after us while we were there, every morning he provided us with a wonderful breakfast, the fresh fruit and fresh juice were particularly appreciated. The house is a short walk through the village to the beach but I personally particularly liked that as it meant you could absorb some of the village life and culture. The humdrum of the village in the morning and evening were for me a delight. Overall a wonderful stay and I will definitely be back again in the future! Thank you Jonas and Kahindi.....”
