Absolutely loved this special gem of an apartment. Just as in the description- Awham’s rooftop terrace is looking out to the dunes on one side and across to the dhows on the water to the other. The call to prayer woke us up in the morning coming in on the breeze through the beautiful mosquito canopied curtains round the comfy bed. Literally the most stunning magical place and we were so happy to be in friendly friendly happy Lamu. Great recommendation of local restaurants and easy trot down a Sandy backstreet to the beach. Incredible shopping in the village and had no need to leave except for sadly our flight away. Also met Awham, who is extremely helpful, kind and the perfect advert for chilled Lamu - def recommend!

The place was amazing and very spacious! Abu was super helpful throughout our stay and the recommended chef was amazing.

What a magical oasis in Shela, having a dipping pool is such a treat on these hot days! He has an amazing eye for interior design, the place is beautiful with thoughtful resting day beds and beautiful pillows to brighten it up. The aircon worked perfectly in the room and the bed was delightfully large! It was a short walk back from peponi into Shela, and we had help with our bags to and from. Ali was an amazing cook and made us fish curry on our first night - I would highly recommend it! We were exhausted from the travel so ended up watching a film on the large tv before bed, and felt so relaxed watching the moon from the day bed. Anyone is lucky to book this spot, but with Babus style you can be sure any of his other properties will be equally beautiful and stylish for your stay in this magical village.

Pambau House is the best that Shela has to offer! it’s just behind that legendary pepperoni hotel, which made meet up for our large group activities easy and very accessible. The gardens and grounds are beautiful with rich, thoughtful Swahili decor. The staff was beyond friendly, and the chef made some of the best meals of our large group which consisted of almost 30 people scattered in many different villas. Pumbao house constantly had the most raved about meals. We will absolutely be back! Such a wonderful, gracious villa and staff.

My friend and I were in Shela for a few days, and loved staying at Chris' place. He helped us arrange transport to Shela, and met us at the jetty, showing us around the neighborhood and local spots on the way. The apartment itself was beautiful, very clean and had all the things you would need for a stay of any duration (e.g., pots, pans, utensils). The house is also fully solar powered, which is a plus, especially in case of any power cuts. Throughout our stay, Chris and Reuben were available to answer questions about Shela / Lamu. I will be coming back to Shela and staying here for sure!

The house is absolutely exquisite. Possibly the most beautifully designed and decorated place I have stayed anywhere in my travels. But Lamu Old Town is pretty dirt and the morning azaan noisy, even with ear plugs. If you have planned activities, like a yoga school, the house is perfect. But there’s not much else to do. We could only eat out at Majlis hotel on Manda island, Peponi hotel in Shela and Lamu House round the corner. But there is an in-house cook if you want to eat at home. The house really is exceptional, with a stunning pool and is an amazing refuge from the surrounding area. I ended up reading a lot and relaxing in its incredibly comfortable rest spaces.

Maria was very responsive from the start. She arranged for the boat from the pier, and a boat to the airport. Zion, who takes care of the day to day, including cooking and laundry (extra) if you need it, was amazingly welcoming and hospitable. He was also willing to tell us what we SHOULD pay for something, which was quite helpful.

Perfect stay! Jonas and Kahindi were excellent hosts. The house is beautiful, and the location is ideal. The terrace offers stunning sunrise views and a gentle breeze. Jonas was always prompt and helpful, providing quick and clear responses to any issues that arose. When we experienced power cuts, he went above and beyond to assist us and quickly found a solution. Kahindi is an outstanding chef—don’t miss the opportunity to have him cook your dinners and breakfasts; you won’t regret it! He prepared the best fish we had during our entire vacation. We’ll definitely return when friends visit Kenya. Thank you!
