Stay in a peaceful, spacious guest room in an 18th-century lettering artist’s home in historic Bruges, just steps from the Minnewater, Belfry, canals, museums, and chocolate shops. The high quality comfortable bed will provide a good night’s sleep. Enjoy a homemade traditional breakfast and a luxurious bathroom shared only with the host, designer bathtub and walk-in shower. Guest use comes first, ensuring privacy. I live on the first floor and have my studio downstairs. Smoking on terrace is ok
The space
Stay on the top floor of Simbolik, an 18th-century artist’s house and working atelier in the historic heart of Bruges. If you'd like to discover Bruges in a more personal and inspiring way, this is the place. I'm a lettering artist living and working here — my studio and small exhibition space are downstairs, and the entire house breathes creativity, warmth, and peace. You’ll find thoughts, quotes, calligraphy, and inspiration woven throughout the space.
🍫 Bruges is known for chocolate, lace, calligraphy, and linen — and you’ll find all of that reflected in the house, including tasty welcome biers and cookies. You’ll stay on the top floor, where you have your own private 48m² space to sleep, relax, and enjoy. It includes a sink, radio, Wi-Fi, and a quality bed with a NASA memory foam topper for ultimate comfort. The sheets are old linen with handmade lace, designed by my mother, and the bed is finished with handmade quilts and soft towels trimmed with lace.
🛁 The luxurious shared bathroom (just one floor down) is used only by me and you — no other guests — and features a Philippe Starck designer bathtub, an Italian marble walk-in shower, and is always kept immaculately clean. Guest use always comes first, ensuring peace, privacy, and plenty of time to enjoy.
🌿 The house is centrally located but calm — just steps from the Minnewater Park, the Belfry, museums, canals, chocolate shops, and the start of the ‘Vesten’ green walk: an 8-km scenic nature trail circling the city. One of the nicest parks is just 50 meters away. Solo travelers can use one of my bikes to explore the city at your own pace.
☕ Every morning, I serve a homemade vegetarian, vegan or glutenfree breakfast, and there's a 35" portable smart TV with Netflix, YouTube and Arte that you can use in your room or even out on the terrace.
🐾 Please note: I live here with my cats — lovely companions, but not ideal for guests with allergies.
🍼 I also provide a baby bed and a foldable bed if you're travelling with your child.
Above all, I offer a personal and warm approach. I love to help guests navigate Bruges and discover things that match their interests — whether you're into art, nature, history or food.
You’ll feel welcomed and at home — with space to share experiences, or enjoy peace and quiet if you prefer.
Smoking inside the property is not allowed, however moking is allowed outside on the terrace.
Guest access
I’m an open-minded and welcoming person who enjoys sharing my home with guests who appreciate its personal, artistic touch. Smoking is allowed outside on the terrace. The accommodation is smoke-free indoors. The sunny terrace is freely accessible to you during your stay — perfect for relaxing with a book or a drink. My two cats, Rajah and Aslan, are allowed on the terrace and patio, but not outside on the street.
If you love conversation or want to know more about Bruges, I’m always happy to chat and share tips. But if you prefer privacy or quiet, that’s absolutely fine too — I fully respect both.
If possible, I’d appreciate it if you could let me know your approximate arrival time in advance.
🕘 Check-in is normally between 9:00 and 24:00, depending on what works for both of us — I’m often home, but I also have a life outside the house. Occasionally I may have an appointment I can’t move.
In that case, I’ll leave a key in the back garden so you can safely leave your luggage and already start exploring Bruges. For safety reasons, I’ll need to lock the house while I’m away — but I’ll send you a message when I’m back so you can officially check in and settle in comfortably. You’ll also receive a spare key, so you can come and go freely throughout your stay. I’m looking forward to welcoming you to my home — whether for conversation, peace, or both. 😊
During your stay
I will welcome you into my home not just as my personal guest(s), with attention, warmth, and space to be yourself.
In my atelier downstairs, I meet people from all over the world. Taking time to talk and connect is one of the things I love most, and it’s actually how the idea to open up my top floor for guests was born. Sharing a home, a city, and a moment in time with someone — even briefly — can create memories that last. That’s something I truly value.
I’ve really missed hosting and am so happy to open my doors again.
Every morning, a homemade vegetarian breakfast will be waiting for you in my kitchen — at any time between 9:00 and 12:00, just as you like it. Vegan or gluten-free options are available as well, no problem.
If you’re curious about Bruges, I have books and guides you can borrow — and I’m always happy to recommend places or hidden gems based on your personal interests. Whether you’re looking for conversation, silence, connection, or inspiration — I’m here if you need me, and invisible if you don’t. 😊
Other things to note
Smoking is allowed on the terrace, there is an ashtray on the table next to the toilet
🦟 Summer & Mosquitos
Like in most European countries, mosquitos can appear in summer. To make your nights more comfortable, there’s:
* a mosquito net in the closet to put over the bed if you would like that
* plug-in repellents in the room
* roll-on mosquito repellent available if needed
* One window is equipped with a mosquito screen for extra protection.
🕘 Arrival Time & Check-In
If possible, please let me know your approximate arrival time in advance. I’m home a lot, but I also have a life outside of my house 😉 Sometimes I have appointments I cannot move. If that’s the case, I’ll leave a key in the locker next to my backdoor, so you can safely drop off your luggage and start exploring Bruges. As soon as I’m back home I'll send a text to welcome you and complete the check-in. You’ll also receive your own spare key to come and go as you please.
🐱 Allergies
I live here with my two friendly cats, Rajah and Aslan. If you have a cat allergy, unfortunately this might not be the ideal place for you.
🍪 Local Flavours
I love to introduce guests to local treats — you will find some traditional Belgian cookies, coffee and tea and a few special Belgian beers waiting for you.
🏡 Your Space
You’ll be staying on the top floor of my 18th-century artist’s home in the historic center of Bruges. Despite the central location, the house remains surprisingly quiet and peaceful.
The floor includes your own space to sit, sleep and relax, as well as a private sink. The luxurious shared bathroom (just one floor down) is used only by me and is always available to guests first.
The kitchen is pleasantly shared for breakfast together, but remains private for the rest of the day.
🕰️ A Tip from Your Host
To truly feel and discover Bruges, I recommend staying at least 3 nights.
Two days often aren’t enough to absorb the charm, history, and hidden corners of the city.
It also gives me the time to offer you a personal welcome while still dedicating time to my artistic work downstairs.
