Self check-in

Dunford house is a quaint 3 storey stone 19th c. cottage, situated at the end of a terrace facing other similar cottages across a quiet traffic free walkway. Modernised in a contemporary style it retains much of its original character.
The 2 bedrooms accommodate 3.
The lower ground garden floor has a well equipped kitchen, bathroom, sunny conservatory leading to a decked walled garden. Free street parking nearby.
Close to town, beaches, pubs and lovely walks.

The space
The cottage is cosy, centrally heated, with a light and airy feel - an ideal place for couples or small families. It is perfect for up to 3 adults.

Entered at street level, a small ‘snug’ leads to a lounge area with stripped wooden floors. The lounge is equipped with TV, DVD player, and Wifi. There are views across to the Ballard Down to the rear, and to the quiet walkway to the front of the cottage.

Upstairs, on the top floor, the master bedroom is equipped with a kingsize oak double bed – and ample storage is provided in a large fitted wardrobe. Views are offered of Ballard Downs across the rooftops of the neighbouring cottages and also offers a glimpse of the sea.

The small second bedroom contains an oak single bed and a small fitted wardrobe. The room overlooks the facing cottages in the terrace.

Downstairs on the ground floor, the kitchen is modern and well equipped with ceramic hob, dishwasher, washing machine and full-sized fridge-freezer and microwave.

The re-fitted bathroom is found on this (ground) floor, and includes a new power shower and an under stairs storage area.

The kitchen leads on to the conservatory with a dining table, seating 6. French doors lead out to the garden.

The garden is compact, walled and enclosed with mature shrubs. There are two decked areas with a table and seating for 4.

It’s a surprisingly sunny spot and perfect suntrap in which to relax with a glass of something at the end of a busy day enjoying yourself – or even for some alfresco dining.

Note - stairs are a little steep but manageable for most. There are no stair gates for very little ones. Being a Victorian cottage the distance between the spindles on the landing may be wider than in modern builds.

Also in the colder months the conservatory will need additional heating provided by the fan heater and electric heater to make it a useable eating area.

Sorry no pets allowed. Strictly no smoking or vaping property, anywhere on the premises.

Guest access
The cottage will be yours in its entirety for the duration of your stay.

Other things to note
Given the Covid 19 pandemic situation we strongly advise guests to read the cancellation policy and also take out their own travel insurance.

Strictly non smoking/vaping property inside and outside thank you.

Neighborhood highlights

We think our place is in a great location… on the doorstep is the renowned Black Swan Inn (the oldest in Swanage). Arkwright’s convenience store is literally round the corner and just another few steps away is one of the most characterful parts of old Swanage – centred around the church and the Millpond.

Head south for a couple of minutes and you reach Townsend Nature Reserve and beyond that Durlston Country Park for lovely walks and views.

The town centre with its award winning beach and steam railway are just a 5 minute stroll in the other direction.

For the slightly more energetic, the start of the Priests Way is equally near – a pleasant 3 mile walk to Worth Matravers where your efforts can be rewarded by a pasty and a pint of homemade cider at the Square and Compass Pub.

Swanage and the surrounding area offers a wealth of activities including the Swanage steam railway, Corfe Castle, numerous festivals throughout the year (blues, folk, jazz), the famous Swanage regatta and carnival, the forgotten village of Tyneham, Monkey world, Tank museum to name but a few.
