Huon River Hideaway is located a few minutes drive from Cygnet, our local village, which has several craft shops, art studios and galleries . There are restaurants, pubs, supermarkets, newsagent, bakery, cakerie, fruit shop, chemist, boutique clothing, handmade jewellery, gift shops and a 24 hour emergency butcher.

Neighborhood highlights

Huon River Hideaway is perfectly located close to many of Southern Tasmania’s best hiking trails including Hartz Peak, Duckhole Lake, Adamsons Peak, Bruny island, and many more. It is conveniently situated only minutes from the village of Cygnet and 50 minutes from Hobart.

Weather permitting, take a leisurely stroll (about 40 mins) along the riverbank to Fat Pig Farm, taking in stunning views of the Huon and the Hartz Mountains beyond.

We have provided a lovely picnic basket containing wine glasses, plates and cutlery and are happy to provide information on our favourite picnic spots. Purchase some yummy Tasmanian produce and explore the beautiful outdoors.

There is a basket of games behind the couch and books on the local area to help you appreciate the history and beauty of the Huon Valley.

Our garden is a bird watchers delight . Binoculars and bird books are provided so you too can share the experience -we were thrilled that in 2022 the endangered swift parrots spent several months early in the year in the flowering blue gums on our property.

If you are hoping to see some of the stunning Southern Lights (Aurora Australis), there is a good chance of seeing Auroras at the end of July. During winter the nights are longer to start with.
The ideal viewing spot from the property is looking left from the deck of the Huon River Hideaway. There are multiple social media platforms you can join which notify you of a local sighting. We have found the views are often better if viewing south west. A local viewing spot is the Burtons Reserve in Cygnet.
