When you stay with us you'll step into the magic of Fernside, our beloved A-Frame retreat on the Sturgeon River in Indian River, Michigan. Imagine yourself waking up to warm sunlight and the soothing melody of the river. It's not just a getaway; it's your ticket to pure serenity and excitement. Fernside is where every moment feels like an adventure waiting to unfold. We can't wait for you to experience the joy of this cozy haven!
The space
When you enter Fernside the first thing you’ll notice is the open floor plan and a wall of windows that floods the cabin with daylight. As night falls, these windows create a seamless connection with the stars, giving you the sensation of floating among them. Our deck, nestled by the river, provides you with a breathtaking view of the clear night sky, where wildlife welcomes you each morning. Ducks gracefully glide along the river, and the occasional fish leaps from the water.
Enhance your evenings under the stars with our fire pit, setting the stage for a warm and cozy atmosphere. For the adventurous, you’ll want to take a thrilling plunge into the river, or you can grab one of our provided tubes for a leisurely float downstream.
Fernside comfortably accommodates 4, offering a main floor bedroom and another in the loft. Perfect for couples, a small family (not suitable for children under 10, due to proximity to the fast river, stairway, and delicate furnishings), or a group of friends—maximum 4 persons at any time.
Even though you’ll be conveniently close to town, you’ll find our cabin is embraced by nature, surrounded by wooded lots on each side and undeveloped state land across the river. Neighbors, more visible in winter, peacefully coexist, and in the summer, the river comes alive with tubers, kayaks, and the occasional angler. Your retreat at Fernside promises a blend of tranquility and adventure.

Other things to note
You will find us down a tranquil 2-lane dirt road with no street lights, creating a dark and peaceful ambiance in the evening. Motion lights at the entrance and along the driveway guide your way. Please note, there's no TV – this is a place for you to unplug. However, we offer internet access for Zoom meetings and streaming movies on your devices.
For added security, we recommend you purchase Airbnb's travel insurance at checkout, covering losses related to illness or inclement weather. Be sure to review our cancellation policy before booking, we do adhere to it.
To ensure a peaceful stay for all guests, a surveillance camera faces the driveway, monitoring adherence to our 4-guest policy. Your understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated.

Neighborhood highlights
The house is located in a quiet neighborhood along the Sturgeon River. The wooded lots on all sides of the house providing some privacy but some neighboring houses will still be visible (especially during the winter months). During the summer tubers and kayakers float down the river past the house regularly.
