The Ecotower is an iconic rustic Gaudiesque structure created by the celebrated artist Nani Croze. Colorful & mosaic adorned, it’s wildly inspiring, totally in touch with nature with the susurrating ocean providing a meditative background soundscape.
The classic white sandy Watamu beach & Marine Park is a 1 min walk away along a 160m private path.
Fully off-grid, ample power & high speed internet & fans throughout.
The space
The entire four storey Eco Tower will be at your disposal. Built around and amongst the trees, to take advantage of the sea breezes - this space is a harmony of architecture & nature.
Beach Acces & Location
The house sits in original coastal forest with direct beach access - on a 160 metre private path - to the sea & one of the best and least populated beaches around. We are situated in the Watamu Marine Park, containing coral gardens which are protected by a reef (therefore no sharks). The Ecotower and environs are far from the hustle and bustle of the larger hotels.
The Space
The Ecotower is wrapped around a doum palm. It has very few walls, letting the breeze - and nature - circulate freely through its 4 floors. There are two open bedrooms, each containing a double bed, however you pass through the end of the second floor bedroom to access the top floor where there is a double bed, bathroom, as well as the star bed. Ecotower can sleep 4, though not if total privacy is required. Due to heights and low/no handrails in places Eco Tower is not suitable for children under 12 and for those with mobility challenges.
The handmade multicoloured recycled glass used in the tower's structure as well as Nani's dalle de verre art in the stairways and floors joyfully play with both the sun and moonlight to bring a very unique glow and cheerful ambiance to the living areas.
All four floors are yours to use.
The ground floor has a large kitchen, a handy post swim shower, and a WC.
The first foor has a lounge and dining area situated in the tree canopy of the surrounding forest.
The second floor has an en-suite double bedroom and a small terrace overlooking the treetops towards the Indian Ocean. At night this bed is lit by the passing moon peeking in between the palm leaves & open staircases.
The third floor has been renovated with a beautiful new roof & features one of the most unique sleep-out experiences the country has to offer - The Ecotower starbed.
From the highest point overlooking Watamu you will not only enjoy the most amazing sunrises & sunsets featuring 360 panoramic views of the Arabuco Sokoke forest and the Indian Ocean and when weather conditions are good you can lie on your starbed and be uniquely surrounded by the coast winds and the African sun or starlit sky.
While watching the sun go down over the virgin forests and the Indian Ocean is special enough, napping in the Ecotower starbed is pretty out of this world.
The third floor also has lots of lounging areas, and a bathroom.
Tribe watersports is a 10 min walk away, we recommend the Mida Creek float after the new & full moon. Watamu has many good restaurants, and sundowner spots, and much to do - from yoga, water sports, deep sea fishing, snorkelling in the marine park, visit the educational snake park, immerse yourself in the Arabuko Sokoke forest (a birders delight), devour delectable gelato or relax and have a massage on the roof terrace. Tuktuks are readily available either by phone or on the roadside.
Eco Tower is approx thirty five mins from Malindi Airport and about two and a quarter hours from Moi International Airport (Mombasa). We can connect you to reliable local taxi drivers for airport transfers.
Guest access
The whole tower will be yours for the duration of your stay.
Other things to note
This is a very unique build without a single straight line. Be prepared for a signature experience quite unlike any other. The second bedroom access (on the rooftop) is through the second floor bedroom. Due to heights and low/no handrails in places Eco Tower is not suitable for children under 12 and for those with mobility challenges.
There is an active troupe of Sykes monkeys around - they will steal your toothpaste. And your earbuds. And any food. Best to keep food in the fridge or drawers /cupboards.
We also host unique stays next to our Kitengela Glass Studio on the outskirts of Nairobi - perfect for a creative escape surounded by art, nature and Nairobi's best-kept secrets.
