A complete renovation of an old coast cottage into a sparkling new home with large swimming pool.

Reclaimed wood & white ‘niru’ (tadelac) with a seasonal through breeze scented with rare mahogany tree wildflowers.

Adorned with custom handmade recycled glass throughout the cottage - from lighting to doorknobs. Fully off-grid with ample power & high speed internet and fans throughout.

1 minute walk from the unparalleled Watamu beach on a private access path.

The space
A Lamu style refurb with the cool finish of an Arabic villa, nestled in original coastal forest, with some trees so rare only a few examples exist in the world. The house abounds with dalle de verre art - in the stairwell & bathrooms, handmade using recycled waste glass in Nairobi.

All rooms have ceiling fans - and are architecturally designed for through breeze. Modern plumbing, full solar power & high speed internet throughout the listing. Chef Innocent is on hand to procure & prepare the oceans delights.

The Space:
The master bedroom & ensuite bathroom has a small private veranda/balcony where you can lounge overlooking trees and the ocean. It is reached via a flight of stairs.

Ground Floor:
Spacious kitchen with breakfast bar and doors leading to an outside covered dining table.

The large sitting room leads on to bedroom two. Bedroom 3 is reached via the veranda.

All bedrooms have mosquito nets, fans, and ensuite bathrooms.

The large swimming pool is next to the expansive veranda from where you sit amongst the swaying palm trees.

Doum Palm has direct beach access with a 100 metre private path to one of the best & least populated beaches around. We are situated in the Watamu Marine Park, containing coral gardens which are protected by a reef (therefore no sharks). Doum Palm and its environs are away from the hustle & bustle of the large hotels.

Tribe watersports is a 10 min walk away, and we recommend the Mida Creek float after the new & full moon. Watamu has many good restaurants, and sundowner spots, and much to do - from yoga classes next door, water sports, snorkel in the marine park, visit the Snake Park Educational Centre, immerse yourself in the Arabuko Sokoke forest guided walks (a birders delight), devour delectable gelato or relax and have a massage on the roof terrace. Tuktuks are readily available either by phone or on the roadside.

Doum Palm is approx thirty five mins from Malindi Airport and about two and a quarter hours from Moi International Airport (Mombasa). We can connect you to reliable local taxi drivers for airport transfers.

Guest access
All areas.

Other things to note
There is an active troupe of Sykes monkeys - they will steal your toothpaste. And your earbuds. And any food. Best to keep food in the fridge or drawers /cupboards.

The owner has a small apartment upstairs, reached via a separate staircase. They generally won't be there during your stay.

We also host unique stays next to our Kitengela Glass Studio on the outskirts of Nairobi - perfect for a creative escape surounded by art and nature.
