The Charles Davis Mansion was built in 1898 by Charles Davis, furniture manufacturing giant & President of the Davis-Birely Table Company. During the late 1800’s & early 1900’s Shelbyville Indiana’s nationally recognized historical district began to take shape. In the early 1900’s Shelbyville boasted over 20 furniture manufacturers & The Davis-Birely Table Company became known internationally & was recognized as the world’s largest exclusive manufacturer of Library & Parlor tables at the time. After Charles Davis’ untimely death in 1911 the home became the family compound in the 1920’s for Brigadier General DW Deprez, Commanding Officer 76th Infantry Brigade, until the late 1960’s.

No expense was spared in 1898 by Charles Davis when building his family’s estate. He leveraged his expansive furniture manufacturing resources & the finest master craftsman of the time to create one of the most beautiful Queen Anne homes of the late 1890’s. Mr. Davis traveled to South America to personally hand pick each piece of mahogany that was then shipped back to his factory in Shelbyville, IN & finished for use in the construction of the home. Massive 7.5’ Mahogany inlaid Pocket Doors line each side of the main entry hall of the property providing a breathtaking opulent feel as you enter the property from the 20’x40’ wrap around Victorian porch. Stunning Green Onyx slabs were imported from Russia in 1898 & ultimately used in the construction of one of the original 7 fireplaces in the home. The 20+’ original hand-crafted formal dining room table still resides in the home & has been entertaining families for generations.
Brought back to life & fully restored over the past decade the Charles Davis Mansion has been 120+ years in the making. Meet your hosts

Lives in Avon, Indiana
A love of history & antiques led to a chance meeting with the previous owner. After respect for the house was earned we were given the once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase this property as our forever home. With two daughters in college & one entering high school if anything we were looking to downsize. After much debate we agreed to go all in & follow our dream. We're both working professionals in Indianapolis & take great pride in giving back to the community. My wife coaches a competitive jump rope team in Avon, IN & is has traveled internationally with several programs. As a Marine Corp veteran I take great pride in volunteering with Indy Honor Flight along with being an active Big Brother mentor in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program here in Indianapolis. We love a challenge & both strive for excellence in everything we do. Since we're not able to make this our forever home quite yet it gives us the unique opportunity to make the property available to the public. We're honored to have the opportunity to share this stunning property with the community & those visiting central Indiana. This is short term executive housing at its finest - the property will definitely leave you speechless & provide an unforgettable experience for 1 or a large group. If you have a specific need or want additional information on hosting a private event at the property please don't hesitate to inquire. We have a lot planned for the property in the coming years & something has to pay the bills! You can monitor our progress, learn about the history of the property & join us on this adventure - Follow us on Facebook: Charles Davis Mansion We look forward to having you as our private guest.
