Developed with experts

We collaborated with former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy and other health and hospitality experts in developing this rigorous protocol.

Not just cleaned, sanitized

Enhanced clean means going beyond your basic clean to sanitize an entire space. This is a thorough, five-step cleaning process to cover every room in the home.

Away from crowds

Enjoy the privacy of a home away from home, away from large crowds and high turnovers. Our protocol includes social distancing guidelines to help keep you safely distanced whether you’re in a private home or private room.

Look for the sparkle

You'll know whether a host has committed to the cleaning protocol at the top of their listing. For more details on what hosts are commited to cleaning, click here.

Masks and gloves

Safety comes first. Hosts and their cleaners are advised to wear personal protective equipment while cleaning.

Approved disinfectants

Hosts should use disinfectants that are approved by local regulatory agencies to attack dirt, germs, and viruses.

High-touch surfaces

All surfaces, especially those frequently touched, should be cleaned and sanitized with disinfectant.

What other health and safety guidelines have been created to keep travelers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Going beyond cleaning, we’ve created new guidelines for both hosts and travelers to uphold, based on guidance from the World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We ask that all guests and hosts take the following precautions:

  • Wear a mask. If hosts and guests must interact or if there is a shared common area accessible to individuals outside of your reservation, wear a protective face covering at all times as recommended by regulatory agencies or authorities such as the US CDC or the European CDC.
  • When you are in a common area or shared space (as a host or guest) maintain appropriate distance from anyone who's not part of your reservation at all times.
  • Wash your hands regularly.
  • Don’t host or travel if you’ve been exposed to or are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.
Be sure to follow any local laws or guidelines in your area. For more information, check out this article in our Help Center.
