This charming retreat has everything you need as a base camp for your Redwood Adventures. It's located down a quiet country road that feels far away from town but is only 4 easy miles from Arcata, home of Humboldt State University and 6 miles to Eureka. The clean and freshly decorated space has a queen size bed and a full size futon style couch. Both beds have been reported as VERY comfortable!
“Jayne and Mike's Redwood Retreat is a little slice of Humboldt heaven. This was the peaceful break much needed. The studio is secluded and wrapped in redwoods, yet only a short drive into the Arcata Plaza for all your food and supply needs. Mike was super responsive to any questions and had great insights to the area. Their dog Lucky is truly a lover and was happy to share space with our cockapoo Tahoe. The bonus on it all was the bbq (fresh oysters from Dock B in Eureka are great on the grill ) and the Hot Tub. Highly recommended if it's available.”
This studio is above our detached garage, about 30ft. in front of our house. It has a private entrance with stairs up to the loft. Perfect for one or two people. We share this property with some stray cats, a couple of deer friends, and pesky racoons. As we are about 40 yds off the road, there is private parking with motion detecting nightlights and a sidewalk leading to the entrance. The room has a small refrigerator, micro-wave oven, student desk and old, wooden office chair. Two folding chairs and a table are provided for sitting on the balcony. There is a twin bed and a scissor futon couch that makes into a full-sized bed. Towels, soap, shampoo and bedding for the couch-bed are provded. Private parking is 20 ft. from the entrance with motion detecting nightlights for your safety. Guest will have access to the studio and our yard, which borders on a dedicated wetlands. There are no trails. We are providing a clean, quiet and private space for guest to enjoy their time here in Arcata and Humboldt County. We are availabe for directions and recommendations, otherwise, we ask that our privacy be respected. Our neighborhood is quiet and rural, surrounded by trees. We have deer that roam our yard, sometimes on a daily basis. There is a good coffee/ sandwhich shop about 50yds from the house - they do not give "to go" cups, so we provide them. There is a small shopping center 1 mile towards Arcata that has a friendly neighborhood market, laundromat, hardware store and restaurant. This is a bike friendly area, with wide bike lanes. We are 2.5 miles from Humboldt State University - a 5 minute drive or a 10 minute bike ride. We are 3 miles southeast of Arcata and 4 miles northeast of Eureka. We are 1 mile from the nearest public transit. It is at Sunny Brae shopping center. This is the southernmost point for the Mad River transit and connects in Arcata to Redwood Transit that connects Fortuna, Eureka and Trinidad.
“Jerry’s place was fantastic. He came out and greeted us and showed us our place while giving us tips on what we can do around town. The studio felt very clean and comfortable and was a perfect little place. Not to mention there’s the cutest cats that hang around outside !!! :)”

Great views of mountains and pastures. Great bicycling and walking trails close by as well!
“When I arrived, Cris was away for the night helping her daughter in Portland. Her upbeat partner, Rick, greeted me at the gate and gave me the lay of the land. He was helpful in directing me to a fish place for diner and a brewery for a beer. We had a fun chat before I went to eat. If you want a clean place in a rural setting with an extremely comfortable king-sized bed and new flat screen TV, Cris’s place is for you. I got up incredibly early to get on the road home, so I did not bother asking for a breakfast. I am sure it would have been a good home cooked meal with fresh eggs, as I saw the chickens in the back forty. Chris’s farmhouse has been remodeled in a vintage eclectic style, using a combination of new and used parts, plus reclaimed treasures that added a layer of interest to me, a retired home builder. Also, the mix of artwork and plants enlivened the space. The dogs were nice to pet; they walked away when I stopped giving them attention. The cats were pleasant and no bother, like most cats just there. The next time I am traveling through Eureka, I will be staying at Cris’s and most definitely will take advantage of the home cooked, farm-style breakfast.”
