Originally a 1 bedroom 1870 cottage that has been added on to over time , it sits at the base of the hills facing North and gets all day sun. The road and the river used to be the main routes to and from Dunedin with nearby Lake Waihola being classed as a "Port" with wool and stock transported out to the Port of Dunedin and supplies shipped back. The house has been extensively renovated throughout but keeps its old world charm. There is NO public transportation and a Taxi will cost around $120
“Allan's house is close to the airport, so it is very convenient for me to catch the early flight. The interior is recently done up. It is clean and has everything you need. The place is warm and Allan made it very like another home. I was offered free meal with delicious fish crumbles. We had great chat. I feel very lucky for choosing this place. Thank you Allan.”
Enjoy your complimentary continental breakfast or a cupa in your own private sunny courtyard surrounded by native plants and the odd croaking frog. Around a five minute walk to St Kilda beach, two bus stops, supermarket, petrol station, and many takeaways.....depending on how long your legs are and how fast you walk.... and takes around 10 minutes to drive to the Octagon, which is the centre of the city, depending on the time of day.
“We really enjoyed staying there. It was so nice to see thoughtful touches everywhere, was sparkling clean and we were quite satisfied with the various breads and cereals. I've been to many accomodations in New Zealand, and I'd say this place is the best for sure.”
Our home is situated in Kaikorai Valley with rural views. We have hosted many homestay students and back packers over the years. The cabin has no kitchen but does have a fridge, electric jug, toaster and microwave. We are motorbike friendly and can find a place to park your bike in the shed. BUT please note our driveway is very steep and even if you drive up there are 11 concrete steps and later 10 wooden steps to the cabin. The rural views, however, make the climb worth it.
“The listing is as described something a little different from staying in a hotel or motel. A nice little cabin up on a hillside close to Dunedin centre with a nice view from the cabin. Ideal for a weekend away or a short trip. Place was clean and comfortable with tea/coffee and cereal available for breakfast in the morning. Easy, straightforward communication and check in. Judy the host met us upon check in and offered us some local tips a nice touch and the cabin also has a information booklet providing additional info on local sights. Thanks.”
