Prohibited and restricted homes

To promote safety and reliability, we prohibit certain types of homes on Airbnb. Other home types are restricted and allowed only if they meet certain requirements.

Prohibited homes

  • Illegal activity: Airbnb doesn’t allow illegal activities, and hosts must always follow all laws and regulations applicable to them and their home.
  • Exploitation risk: Listings may not create exploitation risk. For example, we don’t permit listings that promote or facilitate paid sexual activity or voluntourism with children.
  • Animal endangerment: Listings may not promote or facilitate behavior that threatens animal welfare.
  • Non-stationary homes: All home listings, including boats and camper vans, must remain stationary during the reservation.
  • Daytime-only rentals: Home listings must offer overnight accommodation.

Restricted homes

Certain home types will only be permitted if they meet certain requirements. These include:

  • Homes with open nudity or sexually explicit content: Any open nudity or overtly sexually explicit content or items (ex: content depicting sexual activity or items intended for sexual arousal) in a home must comply with local laws and be clearly disclosed in the listing description. All disclosures must follow our Content Policy. Listings with open nudity or overtly sexually explicit content or items must state a lawful age minimum of 18+, and there may not be any security cameras, including outdoor cameras, at homes with open nudity.
  • Hotel rooms: Hotel rooms must only be listed by the hotel or a professional hospitality business authorized by the hotel to rent the rooms to the public.

The lists above are not exhaustive and may be subject to change. All home listings must comply with our Terms of Service and community policies.

Enforcing this policy

If a listing does not meet the above requirements, we take appropriate action, including issuing warnings, suspending or removing listings, or suspending or removing an account from Airbnb.
