Places to stay in Independence
Small cottage secluded on 31 private acres. 3 bedrooms (2 full beds; 2 twin beds). One bath with claw tub/shower. House built in 1929 by owner's grandfather. Comfortably furnished. Linens provided. Front porch and back deck. Playhouse for children.
Secluded, peaceful. Great place to stay for musicians interested in mountain music!
Peaceful, quiet, safe.
  • Terrific hideaway for home base or quiet R&R. The house is amazing, full of wonders past into present. Enjoy the porch, the quiet, the breeze. Amelia is great with communication and the house is exactly (but better) as described. Great for solos or several.

  • For a girls road trip, this was a perfect little home away from home. A true gem in a small town with so much history, you have the entire place to yourself but are only minutes from practical amenities such as gas as food. We particularly enjoyed the privacy off the main road and saw chipmunks and deer each morning. Definitely an older place but that’s part of the charm of historic places. We would stay again if in the area!

  • This was my second stay at Granny's. It was the perfect home base as I explored the area and looked for a place I might buy as a permanent home. Tucked up and away from the road, you really get a sense of privacy - with the exception of the pond's occasional heron, a bald eagle flying overhead, or slow moving cows in the nearby pasture. Amelia was incredibly kind and helpful during our communications and interactions. Wi-Fi is good enough I could work remotely and end the day with the occasional Netflix binge. A truly special and lovely spot. Make sure to take a walk up the hill to get even more views of the rolling hills surrounding the area.

  • Great place. Our third visit and this time for 2 weeks.

    Cindy2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here. I think we spent most of our time sitting on the front porch taking in the view, relaxing in the hammock, and enjoying the pond. Amelia went out of her way to make our stay wonderful!

  • Beautiful house and land. A+ host! Could not ask for a better, more relaxing place! If you are looking for a peacfull mountain getaway, this is the spot. Lots of great hikes, trails and swimming near by too.

  • As a person on the hunt for her own homestead, this place was 100% the type of place I aspire to one day have. The house is set far back from the road so you can’t see it, and passing cars can’t see you. The sound of cattle in the background and the occasional croak of a frog. A great porch to watch the clouds and appreciate the landscape. A field to walk in. And really good WiFi? I couldn’t have asked for anything more...I will say I had a very hard time finding the silverware but that’s because I’m a nincompoop (it’s very obviously on the kitchen table but I spent many minutes checking and re-checking drawers because I am silly).

You have traveled, you have explored. You have stayed in many places! Now its time to stay in one of the coolest locations you never knew existed. Stay in the top of a Silo! The Silo was finished in Nov 2018. We’ve been renovating this old 1950’s dairy barn/silo since 2013. The Silo has 4 floors and the top 2 are yours! There is a living room on the third floor (and bathroom) and bedroom at the very top with windows all around and 360 degree view ! Also your own private deck off the bedroom.
We bought and have been renovating an old dairy barn since 2013. We had a goal to renovate the attached silo into a beautiful place people could come and enjoy. The silo itself is 4 stories. The top two floors are your living spaces. A living room and private bathroom with a bedroom on top. The rooms are circular, the original shape of the silo. The bedroom has windows that go all the way around the top for a stunning 360 degree view of the mountains and valley. It is an experience you will never forget! Breakfast is not included, however, there is a screened- in full kitchen for you to use anytime. The refrigerator will be stocked with fresh eggs, bacon, butter, oatmeal, grits and coffee/cream. HOWEVER, the outdoor kitchen is closed Nov-April due to weather conditions but there are restaurants in town. NOTE: This is a tall Silo. There are 15 steps to the entrance ( living area) and 12 more interior steps to the bedroom. ***We also have 2 other Suites available: Creekside Bungalow, sleeps 4 Rustic Rooster Room, sleeps 6

  • This was our second time staying at the silo and both experiences were outstanding. There's so many ways you can enjoy your experience at the Silo. From quiet country serenity to soaking in the natural beauty hiking in nearby Grayson Highlands State Park, we had a wonderful time. When you step into the Silo you can sense the love and meticulous craftsmanship that went into building and decorating it. Karen is a wonderful host with so much energy and a great sense of creativity and fun that is reflected both inside and outside. We can't wait to come back again, and we're sure you will feel the same way too after your visit.

  • Karen and Bill are architectural geniuses! This place is amazing! Many thoughtful touches! Amazing 360 degree view of the moon! Will definitely visit again!

  • You may be reading all the reviews and thinking to yourself is it really THAT magical and lovely? And the answer is unequivocally, without a doubt 10000% yes! The property is beautiful and serene, the silo is stylish and unique and fun, and Karen and her family are incredibly welcoming and lovely! I can’t recommend this place enough. It was the perfect relaxing getaway. The story of how the place came to be is amazing and makes you appreciate it that much more. If you are looking for one-of-a-kind accommodations where you can unwind, do yourself a favor and book here. You’ll also have access to great hiking about 45 minutes away in Grayson Highlands State Park! We are already planning our return trip.

  • If you have stumbled upon this Hallmark gem you should consider yourself lucky and book immediately. Even the drive to The Silo is one that makes you take pause and soak in the open spaces. Upon arrival to our Dream Getaway, we were greeted by the most enthusiastic cats. Karen and Bill are the loveliest people who invite you into the magical world that they have created filled with fresh air, unmatched craftsmanship and a 360 view from your bed (and a balcony overlook!) make you want to cry from its beauty. The stunning hiking trail of Grayson Highlands State Park was gorgeous in the winter season with a frosted dusting on everything (and we are eager for our next trip back to see everything in bloom). There is a story and purpose in every cozy detail and we are so appreciative to have gotten to live the experience.

  • My husband and I stayed in the silo for a few days for a winter vacation and this place was just AMAZING!! Having the rays of sun wake you up each morning and falling asleep to the moonlight it doesn't get much better. The hosts are very welcoming and easy to chat with. The Christmas decorations made you feel like you stepped right into a hallmark movie which I love. The place is only about 20 to 30 minutes away from all kinds of shops and resturants. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking to truely relax in the country side. We hope to visit again.

  • I've been staying at B & B's for over 5 years and have found Karen's Dream Rock Silo to be the best. The location, incredible view of they're creek, mountains, and the warm feeling of being "home" as you relax in your comfortable space, makes for great experiences in themselves. Karen and Bill made us feel like family. This was truly a hallmark experience.

    William2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was my best Airbnb experience ever, the place was well designed and very detail was thought of very carefully. Plus, Karen and Bill were an outstanding hosts.

We have been renovating an old 1950's dairy barn for the past 5 years. We fell in love with this location because the barn is set in a beautiful valley in the Appalachian Mountains. You have to drive through the creek to get to the barn. We built this private bungalow on the creekside of the barn with its private entrance. It is close enough to the creek to hear it from your bedroom window. *** We also have 2 other Suites available: Dream Rock Silo, sleeps 2 Rustic Rooster Room, sleeps 6
We have been renovating our barn and silo (ourselves) since 2013. We love the space we have created here. Outside, you can expect beautiful mountain scenery and a peaceful atmosphere, with a calming creek next to your bungalow. And the landscaping and creek rock walls are outstanding! The bungalow has its own entrance. There is a bathroom with stand up shower , full kitchen and living area. There is 1 separate bedroom with a queen size bed. In the living room the futon make a double/full size bed, so the bungalow sleeps 4. ***We also have 2 other Suites available: Dream Rock Silo, sleeps 2 Rustic Rooster Room, sleeps 6

  • Karen and her husband have built a lifes work here and decided to share with others. They were the kindest and most considerate hosts and their spaces were cozy and very thoughtful. Thank you so much for sharing this special place.

  • Karen went above and beyond. When I first met her I thought she was extremely sweet. A few months ago I was trying to find somewhere to elope in the mountains and when I asked her about ideas she offered to let us have it there. By all means she is like family and I can't imagine my life without her and her Dream Rock Silo. My husband and I will always come back!

    Sarah2019-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is my second time back, and it will absolutely not be my last visit to Dream Rock Silo. And again, like I did in August, I stayed at the Creekside Bungalow. Sitting by the rushing creek on my favorite bench, steps away from the bungalow, provided such a restful sense of peace. This magical place has completely changed, for me, the definition of "vacation." When I am here, surrounded by mountains and incredible, pastoral views of countless acres of pastureland, with complete silence other than the melodic symphony of the ever-flowing creek, chirping birds, and winter's breath of chilled wind, my "me time" is more of a holistic sabbatical rest physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Grayson Highlands is one of several great hiking spots less than 30 minutes drive away. The Dream Rock Silo property is tucked away about a mile or two off the main highway, on great, well-maintained gravel roads, which also make for terrific early morning or sunset jogs or walks. My whole being exhales "ahhhhh" in pure, tranquil delight...so much so, that I have already reserved multiple trips for this coming year, even though, the easy commute is 5.5 hours from Chattanooga. Well worth the journey. Every. Single. Time. This slice of heaven, has once again set the standard of what a great AirBnB stay should be, thanks to the wonderful hosts, Karen and Bill, who consistently make me feel like I have come "home." I am, without question, grateful.

  • This has to be one of the BEST Airbnb’s I have ever had the pleasure of staying in! Karen and Bill have made a unique, cozy and beautiful space to share and we will certainly be back.

  • If you need a peaceful and relaxing getaway with a unique touch, Dream Rock Silo is the place to go. Karen and Bill are excellent hosts. You can see how much hard work and love they have put into their place. We appreciated them sharing their beautiful home. They were always available, quick to respond and provide recommendations, if needed, but also gave us our privacy. The Creekside Bungalow was perfect for my husband and I. We enjoyed relaxing in the rocking chairs on the porch and listening to the water flowing through the creek. There were also great hiking trails with incredible views nearby that we enjoyed as well. We hope to return to Dream Rock again soon.

  • This is a beautiful place to stay nestled in the rolling mountains of rural Virginia. Perfect place to be close to nature but enjoy a comfortable place to stay. Karen and her partner are super friendly and have made a really lovely spot with their renovated barn. We arrived late but they thoughtfully left us fresh eggs from their chickens and bacon so we'd have breakfast the next morning. The cows grazing nextdoor and the well landscaped garden and creek make this a perfect place to relax. There's also a short hike one can do on the property. Independence is the local town (15 mins away) and had a fun farmers market we went to. Karen was up on all the local events and had helpful tips. They also had a firepit with smores going that evening which was really lovely. Hope to come back!

    Myles2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Kare is a great host! She made us feel at home and part of her extended family. The room is great, has everything that we need, even Wi-fi ;) My family hopes to get back there soon as we enjoyed a lot the time there.

  • We had an amazing time in the rooster room over New Years, the place is lovely with plenty of little extra touches that enhance your stay! Our 3 year old daughter was so happy to feed the chickens, play with the dogs and cats and just be out in the lovely garden. We really look forward to come back in spring!!

    Johanna2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Dream Rock Silo is literally what dreams are made of! Karen went above and beyond to make everyone feel special and have a wonderful time. So many thoughtful touches throughout that were just for us. Everything all over the property has clearly been well thought out and just so unique and fun. We loved it and hope we can book again if she ever has any openings after the word gets out about this magical place!

  • I've stayed on a flower farm in Maui and an oceanfront villa in Jamaica. I've seen some incredible sights but NOTHING holds a candle to what my family and I experienced at Dream Rock Silo this past weekend. The location was perfect, the grounds were breathtaking and the accommodations were gorgeous (and so thoughtfully decorated!) but the real magic of this place lies in the family behind it. I've never felt more at home or welcomed than they made me feel. I could write a novel about this oasis, but words can't possibly do it justice. Do yourself a favor and discover this getaway for yourself!

    Courtney2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Karen is wonderful and the property is even more beautiful in person! The place was spotless! It was my friends birthday and Karen planned something special just as a thank you for staying with her. Everything was a hit and I would recommend this place to a friend. When people find out about this place, its likely they will stay completely booked and people will have to plan much further in advance than I did. Thanks again Karen and family!

    Debbie2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • The Dream Rock Silo is truly an amazing place inside and out. After reading the newly featured article in the local paper and getting the full tour of the place it really made us appreciate not only Bill and Karen as people but their story on how the place started and all the work they have put into it. Everywhere you look on the property you can tell they have busted their butts on making their dreams come alive. Their attention to details will really blow you away. The landscaping is beautiful with colorful flowers everywhere and the sound of the creek alone will make you feel so relaxed and welcomed. It took no time at all to know that we wanted to come back as soon as we could. If you are looking to stay at this masterpiece, don't hesitate to book any of the rooms because you will not regret it. It's a beautiful place with beautiful people who are masters at their crafts.

Artisan home surrounded by 15 acres with a 150ft waterfall a few feet off the front deck. If you are looking for WI FI and TV this is NOT your vacation. Looking for down time? Looking for inspiration? Looking to reconnect with nature and disconnect from the speed of the world this IS the place for you.
Craftsman build. Custom interior. Unique experience lying in bed looking at the Falls. It feels like you are anywhere in the world but Independence Va.
Beautiful rolling hills with pasture and cows surround you as you drive up.
  • Amazing space and beautiful surroundings. Truly a magical place, Caroline is indeed a superhost and her place was unbelievably catering.

  • Second stay at the falls house. A spa-like retreat that must be experienced. Cozy, amazing accommodations. Caroline is a gracious host & very easy to communicate with!

    Christina2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truly paradise! The waterfall in the back is absolutely stunning & an amazing sight to look at. We literally sat in the chair looking out at the waterfall for hours and the sound of it is so relaxing! Definitely secluded, no cell service & no tv but it was absolutely perfect for us. Best weekend we have ever had and the most relaxing!! We will most definitely go back and suggest everyone to check this place out!

    Jessica2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This space is pure magic. The quiet, the beauty of the waterfall, the deer that visit the yard are so special. Caroline has decorated the home in such a stylish but comfortable way. This is a great place for a romantic get away or even a solo trip for someone wanting peaceful solitude. We can't say enough good things about it. There are restaurants near by but we cooked simple meals in the kitchen and never left.

  • This was the most wonderful way to get away in the mountains for a few days. The falls were amazing and the cabin had everything needed to rest and relax. We will definitely be returning.

I love this secret hiding spot very peaceful will definitely be returning in the spring. Caught some snow so I couldn’t really enjoy the outdoors like I wanted too but the house was more than enough fun wasn’t bored not once even without any service. - p.s.: caught pretty good service in Wytheville about 40mins away from the home.

Enjoy all four seasons on the New River from Black Dog River Retreat. Located approximately thirty yards off the New River and ten miles from Main Street Galax, Virginia, Black Dog River Retreat is a peaceful destination. Enjoy our river front views, take a kayak ride down the river, witness wildlife, or just relax by the campfire on this delightful piece of property.
This quaint river house is the perfect place for a couple looking for alone time or a family. The property is water front, approximately 30 yards off of the river, with concrete steps into the river. The home is quiet, peaceful, and relaxing.
  • The House was Great property was very private with deer coming from the woods to drink out of the river. Even more beautiful in person. Only 1 bathroom and 1 large bedroom upstairs with 2 beds and a bunk bed. Since it was only my husband it was great. Would definitely recommend to others, and stay again ourselves.

Enjoy a relaxing vacation in our secluded mountaintop cabin getaway. Tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains bordering Jefferson National Forest, this cabin is a cozy retreat with dynamite panoramic views. Spend your time sitting on the porch swing overlooking the Appalachian Mountain countryside. Glimpse the four highest peaks in Virginia, watch the hawks and eagles soar at eye level, and enjoy nature at its best.
Inside the cabin, you will find: -A small but fully outfitted kitchen with refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, dishes, utensils, pots and pans. -Living room with flat screen TV connected to Dish Network satellite with all the network stations as well as Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, and many more. -Unfortunately, we DO NOT provide internet at this time. However cell phone reception and data usage is confirmed to work well for U.S. Cellular and Verizon plans. (We do not have any knowledge of how well other carriers will work at this time.) -One full bathroom with shower and washer/dryer located on the ground floor adjacent to the kitchen. -Heating via baseboard heat. -Upstairs there are two small bedroom spaces; one bedroom with queen bed and the other bedroom with two twin beds. There are NO DOORS separating the bedrooms from each other or the staircase. -We will provide a starter amount of toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, dish soap, hand soap, and shampoo, however for longer stays you may need to purchase additional supplies. Outside the cabin, you will find: -Front porch with swing and two rocking chairs. -Picnic shelter with picnic table and gas barbecue grill. -Forested walking path along the ridge behind the cabin. -Scenic views of the countryside. You may spot some of the local wildlife including white tailed deer, wild turkey, raccoons, possums, hawks, and eagles. Although not as commonly seen, black bears, coyote, foxes, and snakes also live in the area. Also of note: -The drive to the property is somewhat of an adventure in of itself. You will be driving through curvy rural farmland roads with livestock including cows, sheep, horses, goats, and chickens in various fields. Please be cautious while driving; it is very common for livestock and/or wildlife to be in the road! You will be on paved road for the majority of the trip, but toward the end, this changes to a one lane gravel road as you climb up the mountain. The driveway to the cabin is steep, so we recommend front wheel or 4-wheel drive vehicles. -During winter months, reservations may be subject to cancellation due to safety concerns in the event of snow or ice on the road. -There are 4 steps up to the front porch, and there are 13 somewhat narrow steps inside up to the second floor bedrooms. -There is a cable gate (essentially a cable across the driveway) with combination padlock at the driveway entrance and keypad self check-in on the front door. (We will provide the codes and detailed driving directions prior to your stay. We strongly recommend you print this information prior to driving since there may be areas of spotty cell service.)
The town of Fries (pronounced "freeze") is about 15-20 minutes away from the cabin, along with two nearby access points for the New River Trail. The New River Trail State Park is a linear park running 57 miles including 39 miles that parallels the scenic and historic New River along what had previously been a railroad track. The trail is relatively flat and includes trestle bridges, tunnels, small waterfalls, and other beautiful woodland scenery enjoyable to hikers, bikers, and horseback riders of all ages. The nearest stores for groceries and supplies would be the Star Market (~15 minutes) and Dollar General Store (~20 minutes) in Fries, VA. There are larger grocery stores and a Super Wal-Mart located in Galax, VA (~35 minutes). We would recommend picking up supplies on your way to the cabin to save time. About 20 minutes away, across from one of the more scenic New River Trail access points, you will find "New River Outdoor Adventures." This is a local company that provides shuttle services and rentals for canoes, kayaks, tubes, biking, fishing, etc. They also sell live bait and tackle for all your fishing needs, as well as fishing and hunting licenses (either short or long term). If you call (276)237-TUBE(8823) they will customize whatever adventure you might want for your group. The city of Galax is about a 30 minute drive. Within Galax, you will find many restaurants, fast food options, antique stores, a quaint walkable downtown area, a small movie theater, bowling alley, and of course Super Wal-Mart, among other amenities. Galax also happens to be home to the largest and oldest running Old Time Bluegrass Fiddler’s Convention, which takes place annually in August since 1935. But don't worry, the entire Appalachian region is known for Bluegrass and traditional "old-timey" music which can be enjoyed year-round. The Rex Theater in Galax, VA hosts weekly live music and other special events. The Fries historic theater in Fries, VA also hosts weekly Thursday night Bluegrass "jam sessions" and other special events. The wonderful Blue Ridge Music Center can be found on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 213. This facility includes a large outdoor amphitheater with summer concert series, an award winning music museum of old-time music, and daily display of free music from local musicians. Access to the Blue Ridge Parkway is only 22 miles away, or about a 35 minute drive. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs 469 miles through Virginia and North Carolina and is one of the most visited properties of the National Park System. The Parkway offers something for everyone including scenic drives, mountain views, biking/hiking/equestrian trails, waterfalls and swimming holes, historic farmsteads and museums, cultural exhibits, and much more. Grayson Highlands State Park is a longer trek, about 45 miles (or ~70 minutes) drive away from the cabin. This park serves as gateway to the state’s highest peak, Mount Rogers, as well as the Appalachian Trail and the Grayson Highlands. The park offers hiking trails, biking trails, horse riding trails, bouldering, fishing, boating, and the chance to encounter wild ponies.
  • Awesome little cabin on top of a mountain with an amazing view.

    Jake2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • If you want a place to decompress in Southwest Virginia this is an excellent place to do it. The views are excellent, the cabin was cozy, and the fresh air is hard to beat. Also if you're into geology at all there are some neat rock outcrops right in the front yard. Check this place out.

    Hunter2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Photos do not do the view justice. Porch swing is incredible. Fantastic getaway. I hope to return soon!

    Chris2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • If you want privacy, incredible views and a cozy place to come back to after hiking, this is the perfect place. I got a surprise snow storm while up there but had no issues and enjoyed myself during a much needed retreat.

  • I would highly recommend this air bnb. Host kept house very clean and had detailed instructions of the location. She answered my phone call and help with all questions I had prior to stay. Very sweet lady with an incredible place to stay!

    Gary2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The view here was breathtaking. I stopped in for a few nights while I was working in a nearby town. I would love to visit this location multiple times in the future especially on vacation!

  • Wonderful Cabin, just the right size. Everything you need for a secluded getaway. Amazing views!

    Todd2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin! It was clean, cozy, and the view was spectacular! Make sure you stop at a grocery store before getting to the cabin as it a good drive from the nearest grocery store and everything closes pretty early in the nearby town. I think it would be very convenient if there were a small welcoming basket awaiting you upon arrival. This could include things such as bottled water, coffee, and a few snacks; especially for those who are driving from far away and getting in late. There was a coffee maker and coffee creamer, but no coffee so we had to leave the next morning and drive about 45 minutes round trip to get coffee. This is obviously not a big deal and the host does say in the description to bring your own food. It is just nice when Airbnb hosts go the extra mile to make you feel welcome, which those items suggested above do and are relatively inexpensive. Other than that, the stay was great. Just make sure you come prepared!

  • Linda's place was awesome, and we were incredibly comfortable after a long day of hiking. She had thought of everything for the space, it was so clean, and we took her suggestion for a local place to eat, which was fantastic.

  • Perfectly laid out space. Very comfortable. Easy access to downtown or Stone Mountain

    Russell2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great room with nice shower. Pretty new as all paint and carpet looked great. Linda gave quick feedback to our questions. Probably stay again when in that area.

Relax on the New River in the renovated hayloft of a horse barn -- perfect for a peaceful country getaway. Located at the end of a winding rural road, this apartment is on a working cattle farm with 3/4 mile frontage along the New River. Hike, fish, canoe, or just watch the hawks, deer, geese, and turkey.
As mentioned, our "River View Getaway" apartment is actually a renovated hayloft above an old horse barn. Although there are no horses currently in residence, the property is located on a 94 acre working cattle farm. (No animals will be stored in the barn during your stay, but you may see cattle in the fenced off paddocks.) Enjoy sitting on the rocking chair porch overlooking the fields and New River. You may spot some of the local wildlife including white tailed deer, canadian geese, or wild turkey. Although not commonly seen, black bears, coyote, and foxes may also live in the area. Inside the barn loft apartment, you will find all the comforts of home including an open living area with leather sofa (which pulls out to queen sized bed), dining area, and kitchen. The full sized bathroom is off the hallway. The rear of the apartment contains a large bedroom with skylight and King sized bed. All linens are of course laundered between each stay including the Duvet covers. (So no dirty bedspreads or blankets!) We will provide toilet paper, papertowels, trash bags, dishsoap, and travel-sized bathroom toiletries, however for long stays you will be responsible for additional supplies. There are large flat screen televisions in both the living room and bedroom. We provide Dish Network satellite TV with all the network stations as well as HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, and many more. High speed gaming/streaming internet is unfortunately NOT available in this area. However we provide a Verizon Hotspot for internet access so you can check your email and research information. It should be noted that this property is located at the end of a long winding country road, which becomes a one lane gravel road near the end. There are 19 steps up to the front door. A number code on the front door allows for self check-in.
The town of Fries (pronounced "freeze") is about 10 minutes away, along with two nearby access points for the New River Trail. About 12 minutes away, across from one of the more scenic New River Trail access points, you will find "New River Outdoor Adventures." This is a local company that provides shuttle services and rentals for canoes, kayaks, tubes, biking, fishing, etc. They also sell live bait and tackle for all your fishing needs, as well as fishing and hunting licenses (either short or long term). If you call (276)237-TUBE(8823) they will customize whatever adventure you might want for your group, including pick up at the farm, (which is known locally as the Delp's Beach farm.) The city of Galax is about a 15-20 minute drive. • Our stay at the barn was great. It was nicer than we expected. Very private. We didn’t see one person while we were there, which we loved😊 We were giving detailed directions and found it very easily in the dark which is good given its remote location. Would definitely go again!

  • Very relaxing, just what we needed.

    Doug2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Our recent stay at Joan's River View Getaway was our first trip using Airbnb. Joan is a fantastic host and made our first stay a truly effortless experience. Her place is amazing and she made the whole process a delight. Check-in/out was super easy. Joan provided us with very clear and concise driving directions, as well as great directions for entering/exiting the property. This little gem of a place is perfect if you're looking for a quiet, relaxing, peaceful, opportunity to re-charge your batteries. Joan's place is very clean, neat, and tidy. The property is nicely secluded, yet you're only minutes from town should you need supplies, or if you're looking for activities. My husband and I enjoyed watching the little bit of snow that fell, the birds roosting in the tree near the porch, and the beautiful stars on the clear nights. The New River is just a very small walk away for the house so it would be great for those warmer months of the year! All-in-all we were extremely pleased with River View Getaway and we hope to stay again in the future.

    Angela2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Joan was quick to respond to our reservation and a needed change of date. The place was perfect for a child-free getaway, though kids might enjoy all the space to play outdoors. Loved walking along the river and in the field. Bed and pillows were super-comfortable. A fun selection of family games was provided as well. We'd love to return!

    Donna2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful stay. As secluded and peaceful as it gets! The place was very clean and the hosts were very friendly and provided great communication. Would definitely stay here again.

Our cottage is a cozy 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom house.
Our cottage is located walking distance to downtown Sparta. Our two bedroom house is equipped with all the comforts of home including sheets and towel (bath towels and beach towels). The kitchen is full size and includes a full refrigerator, stove, oven, and dishwasher. The house was built in 1944 and still includes many of the original details. The walls of the main living area are local pine and the doors still have the original glass door knobs.
Sparta is a wonderful small town full of character and charm. Downtown is filled with many shops and great places to eat. The town is always buzzing with things to do including Music on Main, street festivals, art and craft shows, and parades. We are located directly beside the Farmer’s Market which connects to Crouse Park. In the park is a huge playground, basketball court, and walking track. A beautiful mountain stream runs through the yard and is guaranteed entertainment for kids of any age.
  • Josh's place was wonderful! The location cannot be beat, the space was clean and comfortable and Josh was quick to answer any questions I had. We will be back!

  • The storybook cottage is a wonderful home located in the heart of Sparta. The cottage was very clean and spacious for the entire family. The fenced in backyard is a great touch for kids or pets. Within walking distance to the Crouse Park, Farmers Market, and Main street that includes some great spots for coffee (Becca's backwoods bean) and dinner (Main Street Pizzeria & Taphouse was a favorite!!) . For about the same price as a room at the Allegheny Inn this is an exceptional value.

    Mark2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Hosts were quick to respond and made the check-in/out process very easy. The home was clean, centrally located, and had plenty of towels and cookery. This is an older house with the related quirks you might expect. I was there for business and hope to stay again next year!

    Melody2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived to the cottage after dark but it was easy to find. The cottage was a great fit for us we enjoyed s’mores by the fire pit. There was plenty of space for us to relax. We were traveling with 3 adults and 2 teenagers there was plenty of hot water for all of us to shower. There was a farmers market that was open Saturday morning beside the house.

  • We had a great weekend here. The location was beautiful and quiet. The house was spacious with plenty of room for our party of 5 and our children loved running and playing in the yard. Was close to lots of great places to get outside and explore. Made for a very relaxing getaway.

  • Beautiful peaceful location! Very clean! A wonderful hostess that makes you feel so welcome. She has thought of everything. Directions made it easy to find. Will definitely stay again & recommend to friends. Even more beautiful than the pictures. Awesome place to stay for kayaking. Close to several boat landings.

    Stacey2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • This pretty cabin had it all- simple country charm; every amenity you would expect to see at home; comfortable beds; a lovely view of the countryside with its rolling hills; and enough wildlife to keep you entertained for hours. Located on the New River, we were lulled by the sound of the river as it flowed nearby. While not isolated, the property was quiet and relaxing. Eclectic restaurants were easily within a reasonable drive. If you like the outdoors, canoeing, kayaking, or fishing you are within an easy drive of three state parks, Grayson Highlands State Park, New River Trail State Park, and a short drive south, in North Carolina, Mount Jefferson State Park. Danielle provided good information for the surrounding area. Would I stay here again? YES, YES and YES!!!

  • This place was very quiet and relaxing for us. We stayed two nights and took in a concert at the Blue Ridge Mountain Center. I would easily stay here again.

This quaint, warm cabin in scenic, serene Elk Creek is located on the mountain up a gravel road on 5 wooded acres. The area is loaded with wild turkey and deer, and the occasional bear. This is the perfect getaway for nature lovers, hikers, hunters, fishers, bluegrass music enthusiasts, or anyone simply looking to disconnect from technology and the busyness of life. Roast marshmallows in the fire pit, grill out on our charcoal grill, rock on the front porch, or fish just 1 mile from the cabin.
This cabin is very special to my family. It was built by my papa and several others in our family. We have shared many fond memories here and hope you will too. Our cabin is a rustic getaway for those seeking adventure, privacy, and peace. There is little to no cell reception, unless in town. We also do not have wifi or cable. This is a place to connect with loved ones instead of technology. We do have a tv and a dvd collection, and games! We recently had tree work done, a new roof installed, new back steps, and had some wood rot repaired. Exterior paint is coming soon!
The cabin is located up a winding gravel mountain road full of beautiful scenery near the historic site where Caty Sage was said to have been kidnapped. The road is bumpy, but doesn't require 4 wheel drive. You DO need 4 wheel drive if visiting while snow is on the ground. Our cabin is a rustic getaway for those seeking adventure, privacy, and peace.
  • Everything was exactly as stated in all the details about the cabin. My family and I were very happy with our stay. I recommend this cabin if you are seriously looking for relaxation, peace and quiet!

    Todd2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful cabin to relax and enjoy some relaxing time. The cabin had 2 full bedrooms, one bath and space for 6 to stay. The property is large, and the house includes a front and back (screened in) porch. There is also a fire pit behind the house. The kitchen has full appliances to cook if you choose to do so. The house has a TV with a DVD player and nothing more. It’s what you should do on a nice trip such as this: disconnect, relax, and have no use for WiFi of cell service. Communication was great, quick, and thorough. Would highly recommend to anybody looking for a relaxing weekend. Hikes and outdoor walks are available in driving distance.

    Nick2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Secluded cabin in the beautiful mountains! We saw deer, lovely sunsets, and wild turkeys! We loved grilling out and then relaxing by the campfire. Kayla provides many brochures of local attractions and this was so helpful for us to enjoy our impromptu “hurrication” as we fled from Hurricane Dorian. We would definitely recommend this cabin to those looking for peace and quiet and/or quality time with loved ones.

River Hill Hideaway is a cozy place of respite from the whirlwind called life. You can fish for bass, catfish and sunfish in the pond, or relax on the deck and listen to the river (if you can hear it over the crickets and frogs). The Little River (a trout stocked stream) bends just around the back of the property and you are welcome to fish there or enjoy the swimming hole. Be sure to get a NC fishing license if you plan to fish in the Little River.
This is a new home with construction completed in September, 2017. At 650 sf, it would be a stretch to call it a tiny house. We prefer to think it's just a great use of space. 1 bedroom with a queen bed, 1 bathroom and a combined kitchen/living area gives you everything you need. If you love to cook, our kitchen has everything you will need to make a delicious meal.
River Hill Hideaway is exactly that - hidden away. Much like our families other rental, River Hill Retreat, we are secluded on the mountain and only surrounded by family and one wonderful part-time neighbor.
  • Perfect getaway.

    Rebecca2020-01-01T00:00:00Z

  • Our stay was exactly what we needed. Peace and quiet! Check in was super easy! The house was spotless and very cozy. The kitchen was stocked with everything a cook would need to prepare a good meal. I love cooking, the kitchen was awesome. He stocks good coffee to! I have to havCommunication with the owner was super easy and he replies fast! Even to a simple question about acquiring a trout stamp lol. I decided to get one! It would have been my luck to be the first guest to meet the local game warden haha! There is a past story there lol! Let's just say I learn from experience!

    Betty2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our experience staying at River Hill Hideaway was wonderful, and exceeded our expectations! The home is secluded and in a beautiful setting...fishing in the pond, the short walk to the river with the rope swing that we all enjoyed (brought out the inner kid in us), and enjoying our morning coffee on the deck were just a few of our favorite things. The kitchen was well stocked, and we loved that towels and bed linens were also included. Having access to a washer and dryer after a day spent tubing on the nearby New River was also a huge plus! Joel was awesome and quick to answer any questions we had. We will definitely be returning guests!

HotTub was sparkling clean. Plenty of fun board games and puzzles 🧩 Great Entertainment system both upstairs & downstairs. Horseshoe setup out front with grill and patio. Should I even mention the master walk-in shower and tub?! 🔥🔥🔥 Hosts even left us marshmallows and chocolate for s’mores 💜 A+++

  • The pictures don’t do it justice - it’s a very beautiful and spacious 3-story home. There is always something to do between the hot tub, games, and outside areas. We loved this house so much we decided to stay an extra day and I think that says enough! Zach was very helpful and quick to respond. I would definitely stay here again!

    Emma2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • The space is lovely for a weekend off the grid. I finally got to unplug and unwind. I would definitely come back and stay again. There was a small issue my first day, but Zach had someone over to check it out in 2 hours. Everything worked out and Zach was a great host.

  • Our weekend at The Peach Bottom Lodge was perfect. The cabin is lovely and was even nicer than we expected. It's remote location is incredibly beautiful and peaceful, we felt recharged after our relaxing stay. The open floor plan made for a wonderful place for everyone to spend time together. The patio and hot tub were also enjoyed . A sweet and thoughtful touch - they left us a s'mores platter to use with the fire pit :) Needless to say, our kids were very happy as well.

    Emily2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely beautiful cabin in a nice, private setting. We saw lots of deer while we were staying there, and we were able to have a nice campfire while looking at the stars as well. The cabin was very clean and very nicely decorated, and had everything we possibly could have needed, including a nice selection of tools for the kitchen as well as games to play with the family. We stayed with our two young boys, but there is plenty of space on different floors and 3.5 bathrooms, so there would have been room to share with more adults or another family as well. We had to book last minute because of a family emergency, and the host was super understanding and very quick to respond. I would highly recommend this cabin and we hope to stay here again. Thanks again!!

My place is close to family-friendly activities. Exclusive 100% full privacy. Cozy cabin nestled in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. Has Panoramic views, the 4 seasons and fresh Forrest air. Cabin has 2 bedrooms 2 baths, both with Queen beds and confortable couch in living room. Spacious kitchen.
The beautiful views from the wrap around porch, the privacy of the wilderness, the 4 distinct seasons, the Fall as being the most beautiful. The Oldest River, the New River just minutes down the gravel road. Walk, bike or by car. Watching the dear come to your house in the morning and the wild birds and Canadian gees.
We live in South Fl and decided to own a second home in the Mountains. I went to school in small town of Toccoa Falls, at the foothills of smokey mountains. I guess you might say I got used to small town living and being close to nature. I love the 4 seasons where Fl has only 1 is awfully humid in the summer. The Fall is absolutely spectacular With mild winters. You can see snow every once and a while. Not like up North. Ski resorts nearby. Best months to see snow is Jan Abd Feb. Fall colors in late October.
  • Perfect place for a weekend getaway. Great hiking in close proximity. Very accommodating to us and our dog, loved the place!

  • Lovely cabin, quiet neighborhood, super clean and comfortable!

    Lindy2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • This place is remote, quiet and very relaxing. It's a pretty large space, the wrap around porch is great and the views were gorgeous. Definitely shop before you arrive as it is quite a distance from the nearest store. This place was a great value and we will definitely stay here again in the future.

    Michelle2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin was clean, had a great mountain view from living room and we loved the open floor plan. We were able to use our personal pass code for Netflix and loved the quiet gated community. The hill views to get to Grayson Highlands State Park from this cabin were beautiful. Loved seeing the New River not too far way from cabin. We recommend this cabin to anyone.

    Angela2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a gorgeous location! Off the path but close enough to visit many places. Accommodations very clean. Had a great time.

  • Nestled in a quiet cabin community in the beautiful North Carolina mountains, My Little Cabin was a wonderful retreat from the noise and hustle and bustle of the city. No need to bring your own water... The spring water from the tap is cold, delicious, and better than anything out of a bottle. The wraparound porch is a true wraparound, and we spent most of our time sitting on the back porch, enjoying the gorgeous view of the valley directly below, and of the mountains as far as the eye could see. The area is heavily wooded and would be a festival of color during the early fall. We were there over Thanksgiving and the leaves had already fallen. There is a beautiful river that is a short drive or long walk away and it if you like to fish, it would be ideal. Even though you'll be in the mountains, you'll have the best Verizon signal you've ever had! But the cabin offers free WiFi and satellite TV, so you probably won't need your phone for much. In reality, there is so much peace and tranquility that you might not even want them. If you can, bring all the food you'll want for your trip with you. The kitchen is nicely appointed, including a full sized refrigerator, stove and oven, microwave and a coffee pot. There's even a toaster. You can go into town if you want to, but it's about a half hour trip through very steep and winding roads. The scenery is beautiful though, so it's a very enjoyable trip. We much preferred spending time in and around the cabin. We took our dogs with us and they absolutely loved the area. We really enjoyed our time at the cabin and would happily rent it again.

  • This is a very nice bungalow, not for the "tall" . Pictures do not do justice to the unique and personal style. Extremely clean! More room than I expected. Bathroom - Hot water with good pressure. Lots of blankets along with electric F/P heater to stay warm while sleeping, works great. Extremely clean.

Come stay in our newly renovated home on our working 100-acre Christmas tree farm. Enjoy a hike to the top of the farm. The 500-foot elevation climb is totally worth the walk! You will enjoy 50-mile views of North Carolina and Virginia.
Located very near the New River and the Blue Ridge Parkway, and 5 minutes from the town of Sparta.
  • Evergreen Escape is a beautiful place to getaway. The home itself is very cozy with great amenities. We felt right at home with all the extra personal touches. The view is absolutely beautiful, and the hike is worth it! The view is amazing from the top of the mountain.

    Joseph2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible property! The hike from the house to the top of the farm has incredible views, although it is a tough hike for the inexperienced. The house was very clean and had everything we needed.

    Corrine2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • I wasn't sure what to expect as there were no reviews at the time I reserved this location. I'm glad I went for it though! The house was spotless, which I'm a stickler for. Easy to locate with GPS. Gracious host. Great location close to Sparta and Stone Mountain State Park, but secluded enough we only saw the yard guys on Saturday. The house is basic, but very comfortable. This was not an issue for us but be aware that it's not a fully stocked kitchen (i.e. spices, large selection of cookware) but if you come prepared you'll be fine. There's also no dishwasher, again not an issue but some folks may ask. There is a Keurig with K-cups which was most appreciated. There is a portable fire pit which we enjoyed after getting wood at the Lucky station up the road. One of the best parts of this house is the ability to do a 500' inclined hike from the front door. Such a wonderful hike with stunning views if you make it to the top (I'd rate it a moderate level for most hikers). For those liking less strenuous walks, just walking to the end of the gravel road will get your heart rate up while still enjoying nature. We loved our stay and hope to be back again soon.

Spectacular southern views of mountains in Allegheny and Ashe county, North Carolina. There is no WiFi but good cell phone signal is available all over property including 4G. • Great place as an alternative to a hotel. Peaceful and one of the best views you are going to get. Very clean and comfortable. Great place if you are looking to take your dog. It is very rustic and value for money with a view like that.

  • We will absolutely be returning to this location! The view was spectacular and so calming. We unexpectedly did not get service (with AT&T) but not only did that help us unplug but our hosts came to check on us and were able to provide a personal hotspot! Mary and Andy are incredibly nice. They give you plenty of breathing room but also give you peace of mind with what’s in the area. They even invited us (with no pressure) to their home down the river to watch the sunset. Mary makes the BEST homemade ice cream. It was such a treat and really above and beyond expectation. The home we stayed in was clean and spacious. Full kitchen allowed us to pack a cooler and bring food for breakfasts and lunches (we explored for dinners). Home included basic such as a cooking set, plates, cups, utensils, etc. The deck already had chairs to sit in and there’s even a fire pit on site! Trails around the property are great for all levels of hikers. Some harsh inclines but they quickly become forgiving. Plenty of areas to stop and soak in your surroundings. We did see deer occasionally, normally off in the distance and they didn’t cause any bother. Overall great weekend and we look forward to booking another trip!

  • This was the BEST cabin I have ever stayed in. My husband and I are camping and glamping enthusiasts. We have visited many cabins across the US and this cabin is, by far, my new favorite place. The setting is absolutely beautiful. Quiet, secluded, yet close to town. The river is absolutely beautiful, and there is a perfect swing so you can sit and watch the river flow. We took a short walk one morning and enjoyed a visit from the neighbor's cutest (sweetest) french bulldog. The town of Sparta was right down the road. Due to timing, we were not able to visit this time around... But for future visitors, we highly recommend Muddy Creek Cafe (8 mins away) for some of the best local music available in NC. Stone Mountain was only 25 minutes away and we enjoyed an entire day of hiking. After a day of hiking 10+ strenuous miles, a hot shower and a warm bed are crucial. This cabin met those needs amazingly. THESE BEDS WERE SO COMFORTABLE! The pillows were comfortable. You know what? When can I just move in? I want to just live here forever. This cabin is just magical.

  • Excellent getaway cabin! The area is peaceful and relaxing as you sit on the porch or river swing. Having everything readily available and on hand makes it very easy to not have to leave. Highly recommend for quiet vacation in the mountains.

    Chris2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was lovely, property is secluded feeling which was just what I wanted. The star gazing was lovely. Cabin was equipped with extra camp chairs to sit out by the fire or on the cover porch or gazebo. It was perfect for a birthday getaway for myself and boyfriend. We enjoyed our time together and the cabin was a sweet space to celebrate and enjoy nature. I did fly-fish and didn’t catch or see trout this time of year but the scenery was beautiful and I’m nearly as happy walking the stream and enjoying the scenery as when I’m catching fish. The heaters were plenty sufficient to warm the place while lows were upper 20’s at night during our stay. I would stay here again. Marc was quick to answer messages with questions as I was trip planning.

    Samantha 2019-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • Wow. Absolutely wow. I’d give one star for accuracy if only because this stay was sooo much better than expected. So secluded and quiet, but extremely well appointed and comfortable. We couldn’t tell from the listing but there is a covered pavilion with a porch swing down by the river! Amazing. The cottage is very new and everything is clean. Would definitely recommend this stay again.

Being centrally located allows visitors to explore many outdoor recreational areas like Grayson Highlands State Park, the New River Trail, and the Creeper Trail. Spend time exploring the small towns of Independence, Sparta, or nearby West Jefferson. Wildlife abounds as you spend your days along the New River. You will LOVE spending time here.
Mulligan's Retreat is going to become your new favorite destination for peace and tranquility. Spend your days hiking, biking, or kayaking local points of interest. If a slower pace is what you have in mind, simply relax in a hammock along the river or on the massive wrap around porch. Spending time in this very special space will renew your soul and bring you back to nature.
The house is relatively secluded on a gravel, state maintained road. There are a few neighbors nearby, but none that will interfere with your privacy in any way. When going from the house to the river bottom, the beginning of the driveway is shared, but does not present any problems.

  • Mandy's home is spacious and well-stocked. Our teenage daughter loves to bake and found all that she needed to make pies, cookies, and cakes for the Thanksgiving holiday. We had extended family join us for a meal and there was plenty of room to entertain. The beds were comfortable and we walked to local restaurants and the grocery store each day. It was a great trip and Mandy was a flexible and accommodating host.

  • Such a beautiful home! Right in town, yet quiet and peaceful. Perfect house for large groups. Nice open spaces. Super clean with everything you’ll need. Mandy is great with responding to anything you send her. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. 5* all the way!!

    Kristen2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Eight adults and two young children were very comfortable in Mandy's beautiful home. Parks with playgrounds were nearby for our grandchildren. Sunrises and sunsets were beautiful. The people in Independence stores and restaurants were very friendly. The kitchen is very well equipped as each couple prepared delicious dinners.

    Robert2019-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Mandy Place was amazing! Beautiful views and all details fit the character of the home perfectly. Loved the big kitchen and all the large dining spaces. We would totally stay again.

    Sheila2018-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Mandy is attentive, kind, responds quickly and is seriously the best host for which one could hope. The beds in the home are INCREDIBLY comfortable and are incomparable to those found in hotels or many other rental properties. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and the bathrooms are filled with plush towels and personal toiletry items. Independence is a lovely town chock full of welcoming and friendly people who will always have a smile at the ready. We really cannot say enough about the house, hostess and town!

    Megan2018-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Mandy was great to communicate with. The home is beautiful and we really enjoyed our stay.

Basement apartment (owners live upstairs) situated on 23 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Sparta, NC. It is an outdoor lovers paradise. Did we mention it's a Christmas tree farm? Great for families or those who simply want to get away. Sit out by the fire pit and star gaze without any light pollution. Take a pole and some tackle to the pond or river. Hang out and read under the oak tree. Mainly, relax. Several places to access the Blue Ridge Parkway within 10 minutes drive from the house.
Around 1700 sf basement apartment with 4 bedrooms and 1 bath. There is a full kitchen, cozy living room with wood stove (for those who like to rough it) and gas fireplace (for those who prefer convenience) and comfy beds. The home is only part of what makes this place special, though. There is a working Christmas Tree farm on the property. You'll most likely be greeted by the dogs (Copper and Maya), chickens, and the alpacas, Tagg and Tilly. Guests also have access (via short, moderately stressful hike) to the pond and dock as well as the Little River which bends around the backside of the property. It's great for fishing and also serves as a nice swimming hole. You'll need a valid NC fishing license for the river, but not the pond. That license can be obtained in town. Because of the constant projects and working nature of the farm, plus kids, let me quote a fellow airbnb host, "The grounds are not always "Martha Stewart"-manicured, but our commitment to you is a clean and comfortable home-away-from-home." It's noted again in the "house rules" but we want to make sure everyone knows before booking that we live upstairs along with our 3 (under the age of 7) boys. Previous guests have likened it to apartment living as far as overhead sound. We'll make EVERY attempt to keep our noise to a minimum.
We're on a long gravel drive off of a country road. Our only neighbors are extended family and close friends. This is an extremely safe, quiet, relaxing area.
  • My family of 3 enjoyed Joel and Mandy's place so much that we didn't want to leave! We felt welcome the minute we arrived when we were treated to homemade banana bread and pumpkin bread still warm from the oven. The place was spotless, the kitchen was well stocked, there was a nice entertainment center, the bedrooms were spacious, the linens and towels were new and luxurious, and the beds very comfortable. Joel responded immediately to any questions or concerns we had. We loved meeting and interacting with the farm animals, especially the alpacas! Joel's family lives directly above the rental space, and Joel was worried that we might be bothered by the overhead noise. We DID hear noise, but not between the hours of about 9 PM to 7 AM, so it didn't disturb us. I would highly recommend Joel's place, and if I'm ever lucky enough to be back in Sparta, I would love to stay there again.

  • Nice place. Quiet and beautiful view

    Eric2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Joel's home was a great escape from busy life. The scenery, especially with the backdrop of fall foliage, farm animals, and a Christmas tree farm, would make anyone's stay a very charming one. His home was very clean with plenty of room and beds (too many for a group of 4), entertainment on TV, as well as a well-stocked kitchen. The home-made pumpkin and banana bread, fruit and coffee for the morning was a nice touch. I had a few questions about where to eat and what to see, and Joel provided quick and thoughtful responses to all of them. If you're traveling to the mountains and want a cute, homey place to stay, this is the place!

    Haruka2018-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay at Joel’s place, and we had another great stay. I stayed here with my wife and 4 kids, and there was plenty of space for all of us. The space is very comfortable and homey. The hosts also give you good privacy if you wish or are willing to interact with you and show you around their property (we haven’t done this yet but hope to if we stay here again). The check in is extremely easy and Joel is very responsive to any questions you have or anything you need. It is all around a great place to stay and Joel is a great host.

  • Will change the way you look at the world in a positive way. Heaven had to be near by, felt like the stay was Like a dream, did not want to wake up from it. If you are looking for a great place to relax, great family to be around, then this is it

  • Joel's place was right out of a travel agency booking company. It offered beauty. It offered quietness. It offered a homey touch. It offered adventure not too far down the road. And everything put together made a memorable time for me and my lady.

My place is near the Blue Ridge Parkway in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina where the second oldest river runs through! Enjoy canoeing, fishing, tubing, hiking and all of nature’s slender. Great for a single person or a couple. Kids are welcome too. There are 2 sleeping cotes in the closet. Or just sit on the porch overlooking the river and relax! There are great restaurants in town and the feel of small town people. For us this is our happy place!
The cabin is an experience to treasure for years to come. The sounds for nature, the way the trees dance in the wind. Leave the outside bedroom door open while you sleep and allow the sound of the river to heal your mind and soul. Town is only minutes away. Enjoy good food and friendly people, or just stay put at the cabin. You may not want to leave!
The cabin is in gated community, there are 8 other cabins. It is private and we do have restrictions. No loud music or disturbing the peace and quite. This rental is for relaxation. Guest are welcome to walk within the community, please do not trespass onto other peoples property. There are plenty of areas to hike though out Sparta.
  • The cabin, Haven on River, is a great place. Amazing location, the cabin is sparkling, it has everything that you need for relaxing time.

  • It is crazy that this was my Best stay at an AirBnB to date! I have stayed all over the country, including Vegas, Manhattan , etc. and this perfectly appointed, convenient and comfortable haven took the cake! I arrived very late to find a cheese platter and bottle of wine awaiting. Regina has thought of everything and during my one week stay I found myself finding excuses to make the quick trip back to this spot for a break and some relaxation! You will not be disappointed if you visit this great hidden Gem...however I will if you book dates I need l, as I plan to book my recurring quarterly visits exclusively at Reginas place! Daren

  • Very pleasant and easy to work with

    James & Vicki2019-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Reggie's place is super: Cozily tucked into her house with a beautiful view of her field and horses. Regina was very helpful with our last minute needs and provided good information about what we could do in the area. I was there with two 11 year and they had a great time, proclaiming that they were ready to move in. Stone Mountain, just 20 minutes away, is a fantastic park. We went both days that we were in Sparta.

    Kate2018-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • It is the basement to her home that has been converted to a 1 bedroom apartment. Just beautiful inside. Regina is super nice and it was a very pleasant stay.

  • Regina is an amazing person ! she has beautiful horses ! we felt very comfortable and enjoyed our stay !

    Debra2018-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Regina hospitality is wonderful. The furnishing are clean and very comfortable. The room is actually the size of an apartment, is very private, with a separate outside french door entrance, looking over beautiful scenery. My son and I enjoyed the billiards table and relaxing on the leather couches. Stone Mountain state park was a very fun side trip. Thanks for recommending it, Regina.

  • Reggie’s place is awesome! Quiet peaceful and serene. Loved meeting this sweet lady and watching the horses in the field. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. Bed was very comfortable (slept better there than home). Convenient to town, blue ridge parkway and local attractions and a hidden gem . Everything we needed was in this spacious apartment. Definitely a do again.

Cozy, private queen bed room in a new, 4BR cottage along the scenic New River in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Our 22-acre property has it all: river frontage for fishing, kayak, or tube; and a rambling creek to hike.
  • It is a very nice place, beautiful views of the river and mountains. It was really fun exploring the land around the house and a nice place to come back to after our days out.

    Kelsey2019-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • We were looking for an escape from city noise and Laura's house was the perfect fix. The home is beautiful and the views of the New River are spectacular. Plenty of hiking trails around the Oracle campus if you're so inclined. One point to consider: cell service is hit or miss in that part of Grayson County, but that can be a good thing. Unplug and enjoy the scenery. Highly recommended.

    Scott2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend. Great place to stay in a very restful area of VA. Lodging is suburb. Not far from town and restaurants. Located on the New River, one of VA's top small mouth bass rivers. Bring your fishing equipment. Have a fun peaceful time when you visit here.

    Charles2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • The house is really nice. The back deck overlooking the new river is wonderful spot for meditation watching birds etc. there is internet but there were storms in the area on my visit and service was spotty. Be prepared to unplug.

    Wanda2017-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful get-away with and privacy. Laura is certainly a wonderful and caring hostess! She had breakfast items for us and the house was clean and spacious. Thank you so much -- we would certainly stay there again!

There is plenty of glidders in the decks to enjoy the sunset or the sundown, and a dinnette table to drink your cocktails.

  • Wow! What a fantastic place to stay! We had a great time on the river bank! The view is just great and the wrap porch had plenty of seating.
