  • This is a gem of a find and very secluded for the ideal getaway. Theresa was very helpful and the perfect superhost. I recommend this place hugely!

  • We’ve stayed at one of Theresa’s other listings, and it was stunning just as this one is. Be prepared to veg out in luxury and treat yourself to movies and activities. This suite is absolutely beautiful and enjoyed every minute staying there. The area that the property sits in is remote, quiet and very calming and enjoyable. Would recommend, especially for families :)

  • Such a lovely space - the cinema screen and hot tub bath make it really special. Incredibly clean and has a luxury feel. Theresa even sorted balloons, chocolates and petals making it extra special. Just take note there is no microwave- a fridge, kettle and toaster are all there but not a “kitchen” as such. Would definitely stay again and have already recommended it to some friends!

Cannot recommend enough and a superb host who ensured the place was spotless with lots of little extras to assist e.g. Maps of the local area, books, dvds and games to ensure days out were enjoyed, local hostelries were known and to prevent the tv being used too much. Thank you Juliette

The Shepherd's hut sits just on the edge of Firle, one of the South Downs most iconic villages. It is a very private space, in it's own little meadow, two minutes walk to the shop and three minutes to the famous Ram Inn with Lewes and Brighton nearby
the hut is in it's own paddock overlooking the south downs, close to the pub and the little village shop. From March to the end of September i will only take two night bookings during the week end, in the week one night bookings are fine. Over the Christmas and new year period i will only take two night bookings and over Easter and the for the Love Supreme Festival a three night booking as a couple.
    everything
  • Fantastic space for a single or very snugly duo. Don't expect hot showers, ceramic hobs or electric. All off grid, loo in church cross the way. But for peace, rejuvenation, health and silence (apart from wind in the trees and cock pheasants calling for a mate)you can't be beat. plus the superlative Ram Inn down the road for breakfast lunch and dinner.....! If you can't get through cos of virus inflamation goggle peter Firle.

  • Lovely tranquil setting 😊

    Olivia2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Find a stripped back, simple space with all that you really need. Wild winds from the Downs to rock you to sleep, rooks to waken you and primroses to greet you in the Spring mornings. (Plus a great pub 5 minutes walk away....)

    Helen2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • It’s was a great 👍

    Anas2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very sweet and tranquil place, with a warm welcome.

    Gracie2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The hut is nestled in a lovely spot on the edge of the village, and was perfect for me as someone wanting to get away from it for a few days. As Larkin says, "only the young can be alone freely" and whether you agree with this or not, as someone who is not young, and has a fair number of responsibilities, to have a soulful bolt hole to skedaddle to is a great boon. When I took leave of the place and thanked Peter as I left, he said that the hut was becoming a sanctuary for some. For me, it was more of a haven - for me there is something very boat-like in its compact, unfussy, recycled elegance . I look forward to clambering on board again.

It has its own parking space, ramped access for wheelchairs and a private south facing terrace, part-covered with an oak and glass canopy, facing on to fields and the Long Man of Wilmington, an ancient chalk figure carved into the slope of the South Downs. • We loved staying in Alison’s comfortable cabin. What a beautiful view! Great location. We would highly recommend to anyone wanting to explore the South Downs area.

  • Jackson’s Cabin is an absolute gem! Alison & Charlie’s hospitality is amazing, the cabin is the perfect escape for a weekend away from busy life. The flowers, homemade marmalade & extra touches were lovely, and we loved sitting by the fire after a long day walking. The walk down to the coast is beautiful, with great stops along the way in villages like Litlington. The Sussex Ox around the corner from the house is great for Sunday lunch and there are lots of local walks too! Thanks again, we’ll be back!

    Brianna2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful cosy retreat in a fantastic location. 3 days of walking (routes from the doorstep) and trail running in the South Downs. The weather was wild and it was wonderful to return to a wood burning stove, in a homely, cosy and beautifully presented cabin. Lovely little touches throughout - even had scones and jam on arrival - thank you.

    Alice2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cabin in a beautiful location with everything you could need for a countryside getaway. The cabin has everything you could need from breakfast cereal and scones that were a wonderful extra treat, to the local walking maps which were absolutely brilliant. Would love to come back soon!

  • A wonderful relaxed getaway. Alison is a kind, generous and thoughtful host.

    Christine2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Deep in the country but reachable by public transport, Allison's cabin is surrounded by easy walks to quaint villages, pubs and even a brewery. Sparkling clean, warm and peaceful cabin, great for a writing, reading and exploring the South Downs.

    Stephanie2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We have just spent a lovely cosy Christmas in Jackson’s Cabin, it was our second stay and hope to return again.

    Madeline2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time in Jackson’s cabin, the photos make it look lovely but it’s even nicer in real life - it’s such a lovely space, clean, modern and has everything you’d ever need, lots of maps, loads of kitchen utensils, board games, and the view out of the window is beautiful. We wouldn’t hesitate to come back, it’s definitely one of the nicest Airbnb’s we’ve stayed at, and Alice was a fantastic host. Would recommend for a peaceful weekend escape in the country.

You’ll love my place because of the wonderful views across open countryside, the spiral staircase and the tree growing through the balcony. It's as close as you can get to a treehouse with all the comforts of home. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers.
Gorgeously romantic detached annex with stunning views across an area of outstanding natural beauty. Generously proportioned studio room with French doors to large private balcony with large tree growing through it. Spiral staircase to downstairs kitchenette and shower room. Access to beautiful shared garden which backs onto open fields. Sleeps 2 very comfortably. Self catering. It's on a tiny little lane with trees meeting over the road in places. There are lots of public footpaths including one that goes through next door's land and down through fields to the woods. Treetops is an ideal retreat or lovenest - it's wonderful space for getting away from it all and right into the countryside; to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature; to heal, create music or art or to study. It's very much a cosy country property rather than a stylish hotel setting but it's nicely and very comfortably furnished in rustic style. Horses clop along the lane outside and birdsong fills the air. There is a farmer along the lane who has equipment in use and large vehicles during the week sometimes so it's more reliably peaceful at weekends. There's a deck with a shared hot tub and a patio with a built-in barbecue and seating which you are welcome to use. Should you require a bottle of chilled champagne on arrival this can be arranged with the owner. Treetops has undergone major renovations recently, including a new balcony made of local Sussex oak by local craftsmen in the traditional Sussex style. The bathroom now has a new white suite with much bigger shower and a heated towel rail. Upstairs it has new carpet, curtains, rug, cushions, TV, mattress, pillows, linen, blinds, a power socket with USB points, a little dressing table with a mirror and hairdryer and a more romantic light above the bed. The kitchen has new quarry tiles on the floor, new worktops, sink, an integrated oven and glass hob and the washing machine, which has only been used 3 times in as many years, has been replaced with a dishwasher, which will hopefully get more use and make guests feel properly off-duty and relaxed! Speaking of additions to the garden to help people relax, the new hot tub spa is a wonderful place to wind down and de-stress. It's on a deck in the middle of the garden overlooking the fields and hills beyond for miles and it really is blissful. However, having read the instructions it's not suitable for children under 8 (for safety and hygiene reasons) and two new Shepherd Huts (Meadowsweet and Heartsease) have been built at the bottom of the garden for couples. To avoid disappointing people, especially children, and to ensure the shared facilities are not over-populated, the maximum number of guests allowed in Treetops is now 2 and they need to be adults. If you would like to book for a larger group of adults it is now possible to book Treetops, Heartsease and Meadowsweet at the same time. Please see our other listings for more details and to check availability: www.airbnb.com/h/heartseasehut and www.airbnb.com/h/meadowsweethut. The owner is a music teacher and 2nd degree Reiki practitioner who lives in the main house with one child. Reiki treatments can be arranged during your visit and other therapists can visit to offer Aromatherapy massage and Reflexology sessions. (Please note that prior notice is needed and that sometimes staff are not available due to other commitments). Although smoking is not allowed inside, it is permitted on the balcony.
Herstmonceux is a lovely little Sussex village with a pub (the Brewers Arms), a French brasserie (The Sundial), a fish and chip shop that also does very good burgers, chicken, halloumi and pies (The Willows) and a really good Indian restaurant (Eastern Promise). We've got two convenience stores and a few other shops. It's about 15 mins walk to the village from Treetops. If you don't mind driving or longer walks, there are plenty of good pubs that serve excellent food within easy reach. The Merrie Harriers in Cowbeech is about a mile a half away and it's a favourite amongst locals - a very traditional pub with beams and ingelnook fireplaces, good food and beer and a lovely garden. The White Horse in Bodle Street is at the other end of the lane and does good pub food and has a nice atmosphere. The Bull's Head in Boreham Street (about a mile and a half) have a beautiful garden and do great food including excellent home made pies. The Lamb in Wartling (near the castle) is similar but more gourmet (and pricier) and the Giant's Rest (by the Long Man) is also very good after a walk through the countryside. Tucked away in historically rich 1066 country it is ideally located for walking, horse riding, cycling and painting. For nature lovers there is an abundance of local bird life and the nearby marshes and levels on the way to the beach at Pevensey (15 minutes by car), where there's another castle. 5 mins from the South Downs National Park it is within easy reach of Eastbourne, Tunbridge Wells, Hastings, Brighton, Ashdown (Pooh Bear) Forest and Forest Row Country Park. There is fishing at the local trout farm, golf, tennis, falconry, archery, pottery, the windmill at Windmill Hill, and of course, Herstmonceux Castle and the Science Centre and Observatory. You can go sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and paddleboarding from Eastbourne or Cuckmere. Flying experiences/lessons can also be booked locally. Other nearby attractions include Bateman's (Rudyard Kipling's house), the Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park, Michelham Priory, Standen House in East Grinstead (a treasure trove for lovers of the Arts and Crafts movement), Great Dixter House and Gardens in Northiam, Scotney Castle Garden in Lamberhurst, the White Horse at Alfriston and Long Man at Wilmington.

  • Idyllic getaway in a properly cosy barn conversion. The VHS player and selection of videos was a nice touch! The hot tub lovely on a freezing evening. The peace and quiet. Kitchen has all the equipment you need and you'll spend longer than you need to in the lovely shower. Just don't tell anyone cos we want to book again!

    Chris2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time staying here!! Despite storm Dennis making an appearance we still made the most of our time. Sam was an extremely helpful host and we didn’t feel like anything was too much trouble. We really enjoyed all the VHS tapes which kept us entertained during the storm and the hot tub was an added bonus! We are home feeling very relaxed (the bed is incredibly comfy) and would definitely stay again!

  • Second time staying. Really liked it and Elena thought of everything

    Patrick2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We always have fun staying at the yurt, it was our third time. Even when it's cold and windy the wood burner keeps the yurt nice and cosy. There's everything you need to enjoy a very easy camping adventure. Plus Lewes is charming with lots of antique shops and cafes. We'll definitely be back.

    Charlotte2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Have just spent 2 lovely nights at Elena's yurt. I highly reccomend it. It was decorated really nicely, the facilities were good and log burner kept us nice a toasty inside even while storm Dennis raged outside. Elena was really great to make sure we had all we needed and when we ran out of firewood we were able to pick up some more from the hotel down the road. When we had a problem with the shower Elena also arranged for us to use the ones in the nearby hotel. Thank you!

  • Great host. Great accommodation just as described. It's a real experience staying in a Yurt. I stayed I February, the outside temperature was about 9°c, it felt a little chilly and damp in the Yurt but that is to be expected Winter. The Yurt itself and facilities are great. The host is fantastic. Overall highly recommended. I bet this would make an amazing holiday break in Summer. In winter it is good but make sure to wrap up warm! Also bring a few bright torches as it can be dark.

    Richard2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • The yurt was beautiful in a gorgeous setting. We were there in January but it was cosy and warm with the log burner. I would thoroughly recommend staying here.

    Ceri2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great location!! Hotel staff are amazingly helpful and their food is top drawer!!

    Garry2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • We booked a VERY last minute stay in the yurt at the beginning of January. Elena was quick to respond and very accommodating of our short notice plans. The yurt is magical but if staying in winter bring layers and socks! Would highly recommend for an off grid experience.

This elegant self-contained Edwardian wing of the main house is particularly suitable for families. It features a large fireplace with wood-burning stove, large comfortable sofas and a private garden. The accommodation includes a double bedroom featuring 2 beds together which can be pulled apart, a double let-down bed in a corner of the large living room and 2 single divans to one side of the dining area. Perfectly situated for events at Charleston, Glyndebourne, Firle, Lewes & Eastbourne, as well as the Seven Sisters, the Downs & the sea. All linen, towels and cleaning are included.
Pekes Wing is part of our 'Distinctly Different' Pekes private estate, centred on its ancient Tudor Manor House, and including other picturesque buildings like the old double-Oast House. Guests in the Wing can enjoy facilities such as the heated indoor Swimming Pool and Tennis Court, and stroll around and enjoy the extensive gardens and parkland. The Pekes estate, well away from any road, is set deeply into the very quiet and peaceful Sussex Weald farm lands (organic - no sprays), and has beautiful views across ancient unspoiled countryside. Beyond that there is the stunning coastline, the seaside towns, historic places like Battle and great houses and gardens. For children there are two nearby exciting adventure venues, as well as farms to visit, etc. East Sussex has great charm, and Pekes is very much part of that. The Wing adjoins but is separate from the Manor house; if both houses are taken the connecting door can be opened. It is very peaceful and snug, and has a charming 'column garden' to sit out in.
The immediate neighborhood of Pekes is the Sussex Weald with its numerous footpaths and lanes running through ancient farmland and many little woods. Just a few miles away is the South Downs National Park, incorporating the stunning Seven Sisters chalk cliffs, wonderful sheep-grazed downland, lovely natural beaches, charming villages and some lovely houses - all of which has inspired artists and writers for nearly 200 years. The seaside towns of Eastbourne and Brighton are not far off, and it's a short drive to historic Battle, and the fateful events of 1066.
  • Our weekend at The Pekes was exactly what we were after, a relaxing and peaceful escape in beautiful surroundings. Kildare was a great host and went out of his way to ensure everything was spot on during our stay.

    Chris2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great accommodation, great country house, nice and helpful landlords.

    Kai2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • It was an incredible vacation, thanks to the warm and kind welcome of Kildare and the wonderful house we've stayed in. Everything was prepared perfectly well, we enjoyed fireplace each evening, visite a lot of nearby cities and places, the atmosphere in the house was exciting as huge history felt in each piece of it.

    Alla2019-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Guests can expect a wonderfully unique experience. All the properties at Pekes Manor are better "in person" than the photos might lead you to believe. The setting is what makes the stay so enjoyable. Rolling fields, and perfect tranquility. Our wedding guests stayed in all of the properties and loved their experiences. All amenities were as described, and Kildare and his team were a joy to work with. Overall, an incredible experience.

    Simon2018-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Having just returned from a weekend with a couple of girls friends in The Wing we are in awe of what a fabulous place Pekes is. The perfect place to unwind and get away from it all, leaving the stresses of family life and work behind. We loved the fabulous architecture, period furniture and artefacts that filled our home-from-home. As we sat in the hot-tub and then swam in the pool surrounded by lush foliage and mosaics we had to keep pinching ourselves to check it was real. Next time we'll be sure to make use of the sauna too. The Wing contained everything we needed for the weekend - milk was in the fridge on arrival and there were enough logs in basket to enable us to have a roaring fire on the first night. Kildare checked in on us the next morning to see if everything was alright and brought us more logs for a reasonable cost. Pekes really is a hidden gem of a place. We promise to return as soon as the opportunity arises.

    Jane2018-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous and different, set in a beautiful location. Couldn't have asked for more.

    Helen2018-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our family really enjoyed the week we spent in the Wing at Pekes. It was very spacious for the five of us. It was a bit cold, but we turned the heating up and the beds and duves were very warm and comfy so we weren’t cold at night at all. The kids loved the heated pool. The location was perfect for us, quick drive away from the seaside. Also we went for walks in the local area and had very nice Sunday lunch in the local pub, The Gun . We had a great holiday all together.

    Niina2017-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • The Pekes is a gem of a place in the Sussex countryside, and the grounds are absolutely beautiful, especially the swimming pool nestled inside a magical greenhouse. We had some confusion with guests staying in the main house next door to the Wing, which wasn't great, but Kildare and his team were very responsive, and his staff even gave us a lift to the station the following morning rather than letting us book a taxi. The team was keen to know that we were comfortable and happy, and that makes us want to return.

  • Caroline was the perfect host, i would stay here again and again. I had everything I needed, most importantly serenity. I have made a new friend and will be sure to stay again one day. I have no negative comments, only gratitude ❤

    Dolly2020-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline is the consummate host, and she’s thought of everything to make her studio room perfect. She very kindly accommodated my changing plans and was always available to answer my questions. The studio is light, airy, modern, clean, comfortable and well-equipped. The kitchen has everything needed, including an induction hob and oven/microwave combo. The only thing lacking is a freezer compartment in the mini fridge, but the trade-off there is that the fridge is absolutely silent with no annoying compressor noises. There’s a slight privacy issue with the foot traffic just outside the main window, but I found it manageable. There’s easy access both to challenging hill walks and level riverside walks, as well as historic attractions and plenty of shops, both chain and independent. There’s bus service nearby if you need to leave town, but the center of Lewes itself is just a short walk away. I would have been happy to have stayed longer if the studio hadn't been, unsurprisingly, fully booked after me. Highly recommended for a stay of any length.

  • I've been living in this perfect apartment for six weeks, and I can't find the words to express how well I've felt. The apartment has absolutely everything that you need (and more), the heating is fantastic, everything is new and it's spotlessly clean. There's no single thing I can complain about. Caroline and her husband are fantastic, they've made me feel really at home. I'm looking forward to being here again.

    Carmen2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended! Cosy, clean and comfortable, close to all amenities, easy parking.

    Mark2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful place to stay just on the edge of Lewes. It's really cosy but really well equipped with everything you need for a short break. Caroline was quick to respond whenever I messaged her and went out of her way to help us out when we needed anything. I'd massively recommend it to anyone and we'll definitely be staying again when we're next down!

Garden Cottage annexe forms part of a charming 16th century cottage situated on the edge of the Ashdown Forest in beautiful East Sussex. There are country walks from the door of the annexe, and a bus stop at the end of the drive taking you to Brighton or to Tunbridge Wells. Nearby is a post office and store, pub, farm shop and cafe serving local and organic produce. Uckfield is 1.5 miles away and provides a larger range of shops restaurants and services.
The annex comprises a comfortable bedroom with double bed, a wardrobe and chest of drawers. We can also provide a single bed if required. There is a cosy sitting room with a TV and a wood burning stove. The beamed ceiling is quite low and any guest over 6 feet tall may have to duck! The kitchenette is in the conservatory and comprises a basin and taps, cupboards, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster. There is a modern shower room. We provide a welcome pack of breakfast items in the fridge, plus tea, coffee, sugar etc, and some logs for the wood burner. Outside there is a small patio area with a table and chairs. This has views over the fields and fairy lights in the pergola (light switch in the side passage).
Five Ash Down is a quiet hamlet one mile north of Uckfield. It is close to the Ashdown Forest, Brighton, Severn Sisters Country Park, Drusilla’s zoo, Bluebell Railway Line, South Downs, Lewes, a lama park, the Winnie The Pooh Bridge, mountain biking at Bedgbury pinetum, and numerous National Trust properties.
  • A really nice stay. The annexe is a very comfortable place to relax and Karen has put a lot of thought into making sure it is welcoming for her guests. Lots of nice little touches.

  • Stayed at the annex for 3 nights during the beginning of the lock down. It is a gorgeous, stylish and cosy home, situated in heart of nature. Everything was provided for a warm welcome and for comfort and ease. Karen left good quality bread, orange juice, milk, eggs blueberries and other essential foods in the fridge. Coffee, tea, even cookies. There were enough logs and kindling for a fire for one night which was lovely. The bed has a deep mattress topper which makes the bed very comfortable. I had a great nights sleep. Would highly recommend this home for a lovely retreat or a walking holiday. Did not meet Karen in person. But all communication was responsive and helpful. Thank you.

    kaiya2020-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time and enjoyed the gorgeous cabin, it’s location and Karen’s thoughtful touches including a birthday cake for my partner thoroughly, and we are very appreciative of the experience. Alongside cleanliness the place was also perfect for its amenities and breakfast package. Check-in and arrival was easy, and Karen was welcoming & kind as well as quick & efficient with communication. The bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept on, we were truly able to relax here. Would love to return. Thank you!

  • WOW! This place was absolutely beautiful, we didn't want to leave! Lovely location, it was so quiet and peaceful. Karen is a great host, both with her welcome to check we were settled, and with the wonderfully thoughtful touches and amenities she provides. The kitchen and bathroom were well stocked with everything you could possibly need, even down to the provision of tampons/pads. Very comfy bed too, which meant we were well rested. Thanks for such a wonderful stay!

  • A beautiful cottage perfectly located. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a special time with their partner. The place is super clean, organised and beautiful. The only thing we missed when reading the description is that it’s two twin beds combined together rather than one double bed but in the end, it’s specious and comfortable so no regrets. Would visit again!

  • Wheat Cottage is a lovely, spacious countryside retreat in Sussex. We stayed for 5 nights in November to attend a guitar course nearby, but also enjoyed some local pubs and the Vanguard Way walking path, on the doorstep! Katie is welcoming and helpful; the cottage is perfectly clean and gives a very at-home feeling. Would recommend and we will be staying again!

  • Very nice lodge, deally placed for reaching many of the tourist attractions in the area. Mike was very helpful and communication was very good. Slight down side is the proximity to the main road which can be heard at certain times and car doors being slammed at night. Lodge is nicely equipped and can be kept toasty warm though we really missed having hooks for outdoor clothing in the hall. Overall enjoyed our stay, feels very safe with the electric gate. Parking space is a little on the small side if you have a very big car.

Top floor, light and spacious double room with fireplace in character Victorian house with garden. The room has a comfortable double bed, painted floor, large bay window and original Victorian furniture. I am close to trains, buses, ferry, beach and hill walks.
I am a yoga teacher and massage therapist so can offer you one to one yoga lessons or a relaxing massage in a lovely quiet warm space. I am also a great cook and will make you a delicious evening meal if you give me enough notice. The house has a garden and a really friendly cat. The house is quirky, old and a little inconvenient, interesting and shabby. I need to point out that the bathroom is in the basement and the bedroom is 2 flights of stairs up so it is not suitable for anyone disabled or infirm. I have had new windows fitted since writing the above so it is much quieter now but in the summer the seagulls can be noisy. So bring some earplugs if you are sensitive to noise.
Newhaven is on the outside just another industrial small town but has a great beach and cliffs, is only minutes away from the Ferry terminal to Dieppe. Brighton is 30 mins away by bus or train and the historic town of Lewes with it's castle and ancient windy streets is 10 mins by train. I am only minutes walk away from the beautiful downs and river walks.
  • Suzanne is very caring and welcoming. She has a lovely and comfortable home. The apartment is close to the port so if you arrive by ferry (like me) it’s perfect. You have everything close by. It was a perfect stay for me. Thank you again Suzanne

    Ju2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Suzanne was a lovely and warm host and her home is beautiful and peaceful. It's perfect if you just want some time out or want to explore Lewes /Brighton (very close on the train). When I arrived I had a warm bath with salts and essential oils, a nice cup of tea and read one of her many interesting books. She also provided breakfast/tea and coffee for me which was a thoughtful touch. Overall I would highly recommend- Suzanne really is a suoerhost!

    Asha 2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A great stay in a cozy, warmly decorated room and house. Suzanne provided breakfast for us as well. A great spot for the Seven sisters walk. Thanks for having us!

    Lewis2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • After walking 22km, I was exhausted and famished. Suzanne ran a bath (with epson salt and scented trinkets), directed me to a delicious local fish platter and was perfectly pleasant throughout my stay.

  • Had an absolutely wonderful stay. My room was perfect and Suzanne couldn't have been a friendlier, kinder host.

Please be aware, we have a cat. This back room has my spare bed and office. You have a comfy single with electric raising system and a desk place to work at. Bathroom is shared with myself and 2 lodgers but is right outside your door. Please use the kitchen/ laundry and live "as family". There is parking on the drive for your car. Lewes Station 10 minutes walk. We are seconds from Cliff High St just across the church courtyard. The clock softly chimes each hour and the bell rings for services.
  • Great to stay here again, Sandria as welcoming as ever!

Set in the stunning Sussex countryside. Mill House Cottage is located in the village of Isfield, East Sussex. Nestled in the grounds of The Mill House the cottage is self contained with it's own garden and patio area. We are within a short driving distance of Uckfield, Lewes and Brighton.
Mill House cottage is a quaint and cosy retreat with original beams and log burner. Opposite the Mill House which has some interesting history with Dame Thora Hurd's daughter and John Anderson 1st Viscount of Waverley (Anderson shelter) also lived here. Mill House cottage is surprisingly spacious with a large kitchen equipped with everything you need for a short stay. Large sitting area with patio doors which open onto the paved outside space. Outdoor bench for alfresco dining during the warm summer months. The cottage also has a large separate dining room for colder months. The sleeping areas include an extremely spacious master bedroom with king size bed. Second bedroom is also a large space with 2 single beds. There are chests of drawers in both bedrooms and wardrobes in the hallway. The bathroom is fitted with shower, basin and toilet.
Isfield village has a local farm shop, Laughing Fish pub and Lavender railway Line for visitors to enjoy. Glyndebourne Opera house is just a 6 mile drive away from Isfield in the village of Glynde. There are numerous famous gardens within a short drive, Sheffield Park, Borde Hill and Wakehurst Place. Further afield Great Dixter, Sissinghurst and Nymans. The South Down National Park is within driving distance. The white cliffs of Seven Sisters, ancient woodlands and lowland heaths. Stunning views and hidden gems to be found. Ashdown Forest, the largest free access space in the South East and home to Winnie the Pooh is a short drive away. We have the choice of two championship golf courses. The largest being East Sussex National only a 5 mins drive away. If your looking for thrills why not try Fly Sussex. This is the UK's largest award winning paragliding school, just on the outskirts of Lewes.
  • Indeed a cosy cottage but with plenty of space. The surroundings are stunning set in rural Sussex yet the location offers easy access to facilities in Uckfield & Lewes. Charlie was extremely helpful and responsive.

    Craig2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Everting you could possibly need. The cottage itself is huge! Loads of room and great crawling territory for our little girl. Fresh free range eggs, bead, butter and milk supplied. Cosy cottage- Charlie had been in to get it warmed up for us and put the Christmas lights on. We sadly had been delayed with weather and arrived after check-in but Charlie was so accommodating! We would heartily recommend a stay here!

    Lydia2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • It is a great cottage on the countryside. The use of a car is recommended. The cottage is in a beautiful walking area. An absolute must if you love nature.

    Erik2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Charlie is so welcoming when she greets you and the property is beautiful in presentation and location. It was so quiet and peaceful which is just what we needed and, in addition to the already well-equipped cottage, Charlie had provided some extra lovely touches such as fresh eggs, bread and milk so we could have a welcome cuppa! The recommendations for a nice place to eat locally were also gratefully received. I cannot recommend this place enough for its comfort, space, cosiness and Charlie's hospitality. We will be back! Thank you

    Jenny2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is set in a beautiful quiet location is spotlessly clean, stylish decor and the bedrooms are enormous. The cottage is really warm and cosy there is a log burner we didn't use but imagine it would be lovely lighting that on a cold winter night. The fresh eggs (a couple of double yolkers), bread, butter, milk, tea, coffee and sugar was much appreciated. Charlie is an amazing host, check in and out was fast and efficient. I highly recommend this amazing cottage great value for money book now to avoid disappointment!

Dream easily in a bespoke 4-poster bed, and there's a second pretty bedroom. Come morning, wake to a peaceful hideaway brimming with character, art, and beautiful objects in this historic village. Pick a good book to take to the flower-filled garden, and in the winter light the log burner. Plenty to discover in the village and surrounding area, enjoy some of the best walking in the country. All within a couple of hours of London. Close to the Seven Sisters Country Park and the glorious coast and beaches. All this, and we're nestled within the South Downs National Park. Heaven!
This bright and airy house is ideal for a relaxing break. The area has everything you need for a great walking or cycling holiday or just mooching about. You can just stroll around and enjoy all the lovely pubs and tea houses in the village. Alfriston has one of the best independent bookshops in the country - Much Ado Books. Badgers Tea House is just across the road - a wonderful place to relax (a 10% discount is offered to my guests). Well behaved dogs are welcome (not on the furniture or upstairs please) and they're welcomed in most places around the village. In the winter there is a log burner (initial basket of logs supplied). My house has many times been described as light and "cosy", and is filled with art and interesting things - this is where I live in between bookings so is very much a HOME and not a holiday let.
The house is in a beautiful medieval village nestling in the heart of the South Downs National Park. The South Downs Way is steps away, while rolling hills, Friston Forest, Cuckmere Haven, and the world-famous Seven Sisters cliffs are not far off. With a wealth of different terrains, you can enjoy every type of walk, from a stroll along the river to a challenging all day yomp!. Walk along the Seven Sisters Heritage Coast or over the Downs. Or just mooch around the village shops and tearooms.
  • Whilst we weren't on holiday, the house and location are nevertheless beautiful and we would definitely book again when life as we know it returns to normal. Would highly recommend to those seeking the quintessential English countryside experience.

    Matthew2020-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • Jilly was a super host, always available to attend our needs. The cottage was a real joy to spend time in, full of personality, flooded with natural light from large sash windows, snug of an evening with the log burner. The village was delightful and the surrounding landscape second to none. Faultless!

    Ben2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable stay in a great little village

    Chris2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • When we arrived, the village was partially flooded and the main road into the village was impassable. The back road was totally clogged with people picking up their children from school and we had to drive for about 30 minutes to access Jilly’s place from the other side of town. For a while, we didn’t think we would actually be able to get to the house and when we finally parked, we were confronted with another flood that made us think we’d never get to our destination. In steps Jilly, walking her dog and randomly bumping into us in our moment of need! (We were walking in the wrong direction, despite her brilliant instructions!). Jilly showed us to the house and saw us in. She is super friendly and helpful as had even arranged flowers and fizz to be in the house because we were celebrating my wife’s birthday. The TV in the house is tiny and the shelves are packed with books. This says everything about the place in terms of how relaxing it is. We lit the log burner each night, put on music, read and chilled out. A tv free weekend that did us the world of good. On Saturday we wanted to plan a walk that avoided the flooding. Jilly stepped in again, after having messaged her, she popped by and gave us some great suggestions as to where we might go. We took her advice and had a brilliant walk on the Downs. I don’t want to make out that the house was without it’s comforts. It had everything we needed and more. The art was fun, the kitchen fully stocked - the dishwasher was perfect! We had breakfast in The Singing Kettle on Saturday and the village shop is amazing (proper quality local produce and amazing friendly service). The fact that the village was cut off by floods and water works meant it was super quiet and we found it to be completely calming the minute we arrived. Thank You Jilly.

  • A wonderful home. It felt like staying at a friends house. A relaxing place with such interesting decor. Jilly was a delight to communicate with and was very attentive. Couldn’t of asked for a better place to stay.

  • Jilly made us feel most welcome in her beautiful home situated in a lovely quaint village. I thoroughly recommend booking if you are looking for a quiet weekend away filled with walks, pubs and nearby wineries to explore.

    Jessica2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Jilly's home exceeded our (already high) expectations. We've scored her 5/5 on every aspect of our experience. Her house is stylish, cosy and perfectly placed for walks, pubs and a relaxing break away from the usual busy routine. Jilly went the extra mile to ensure we had a top-notch time! We're already planning a return visit...

  • Barney and his parents were so welcoming and friendly. I couldn't ask for more from an AirBnb stay. I knew it was going to be lovely there and already know the area well, so really looked forward to it. Yet it even exceeded my hopes. It gave me the quiet spot I hoped for in which to relax and escape during a busy time of visits and get togethers with people in the area. It's a gorgeous place with plenty of space for a single soul or a couple. And it's cosy too. Looking up through the attic windows to see a full moon and starlight, from my bed, was magical. I loved it! Also; It was good to stay somewhere through AirBnb that knew what the 2nd B stood for. I find so many places have missed the point of this site and the exchange between people that it creates a space for. Whether we meet our hosts, see them only once or have a cuppa with them, to me it is all about a human connection. This is what sets the experience apart from a holiday let. It is more than an exchange of money in order to have a bed for the night. This is a family who get that and my stay has made me want to give the site a chance again after a while of not using it.

    Clare2020-02-10T00:00:00Z

  • My partner and I absolutely loved our stay at Barney's place. This cozy place was a perfect get away from London for 5 days - neither of us wanted to leave. It is close to beautiful hiking trails, the delicious pub and has wonderful views of the valley. Barney and his family went above and beyond for us and showed genuine kindness - making sure we had enough of everything and even drove us down to the pub. Thanks so much! We will definitely be back!

  • I have never stayed anywhere where so much thought and kindness has been shown. From home made jam and marmalade to bread, butter, milk and juice all ready. There are cushions for the outside chairs and logs for the fire. The decor is eclectic and beautiful and the kitchen and bathroom sparkling and modern. I was reluctant to leave. I hope to return. Many thanks

  • Jo's place is lovely. Has everything you need for a weekend escape. Also helped that it's nicely isolated and self contained, so it was the perfect COVID-19 escape. Lots of walking trails to explore. Next time we'll bring our bikes.

  • Thank you for being such an accommodating host Josephine. Nothing was too much trouble, The coach house was spacious, super clean and beautiful throughout. We had an amazing few days here and would definitely come back again. We visited the seven sisters just a short drive away and braved it at the top in the strong winds. The surrounding fields were nice to walk around and visited the lake to just 15 minutes away. Nice to be away from the hustle of the city and enjoy some peace.

  • This is the second time we've stayed in the cottage, and it was just as good! A lovely fire in the woodburner, luxurious bath upstairs and stunning views all around.

    Jamey2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect peaceful getaway. The views from the fields off the back of the cottage are stunning. Cottage is cosy with stylish touches, a real retreat; plenty to do new nearby or just enjoy doing nothing; feels really secluded. Melissa was thoughtful and easily contacted should we have needed anything. Late check out given without request which was a real delight as we didn't want to leave! Wish we could have stayed longer but we would definitely come back!

    Nadia2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Jacks Cottage is quite frankly spectacular. A beautiful, airy and idyllic barn with stunning views of the Sussex countryside. Really cosy and homely place to stay (with the freestanding bath being a personal highlight) I would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting a quiet few days away or to use as a base to go exploring around Sussex and Kent.

    Thomas2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Melissa is an amazing host. She showed great hospitality and very quick in responding. We had a weekend escape with my family. The cottage has a beautiful garden and very close to one walking path to the local pub. The kitchen was fully equipped and there were enough staff(spices, tea, coffee, sugar, bread etc) to prepare breakfast. Melissa also left some complimentary items in the fridge (many thanks for those) . Beds were very comfy. Certainly recommend having a Sunday roast at the Star Inn pub. Over all, we enjoyed our stay very much.

Totally unique, hand-built, cosy cabin with wood-burner, raised cabin bed, shower room and kitchenette. Fully insulated, with electric heating and hot water. Built by Stu & Aine from recycled timber we're in the heart of the town, just 2 minutes from the Station. Perfect for that romantic weekend away !! We look forward to welcoming you to our cabin, our home and our lovely town.
We are in the heart of the town. Just 2 minutes from the station and 10 minutes from the High Street. Everything you might want from Lewes is a short walk away. Our Cabin is a unique and lovingly crafted space. In the main area is the raised bed, with sumptuous mattress, feather and down duvet & pillows and French linen sheets. We supply a continental style breakfast (granola, orange juice, fruit, toasts, jams, marmalade, berries, real or instant coffees and English and herb teas) for you to have at your leisure. The kitchenette has toaster, kettle, fridge, microwave and Belfast sink. In the drawers you'll find cooking utensils. There is a pull out table, chairs and double seating. The en suite shower room is well appointed and we provide free quality toiletries & luxury cotton towels. And there are lots of lovely little touches doted through the cabin. Relax and curl up next to the wood-burning stove and enjoy the views of the garden, or rest on the outdoor deck. The Cabin is well appointed and has everything you need for your stay. It is cosy (think a bit bigger than a Shepherd's Hut) and has lots of storage. It's a two night minimum stay at the weekends & Holidays.
We are so close to Lewes station - it is literally just two minutes (yes - I've timed it !). If you come by car, we can help you with car parking. We overlook the beautiful Grange Gardens, and Southover Grange (handy for weddings there) is close by. It is just a 5 minute walk to Anne of Cleves House (Henry V111's fourth wife), the Castle, the medieval High Street, numerous lovely shops and cafes. It's a 15 minute walk to be out of the town and up onto the surrounding downs and into stunning countryside and a 20 minute drive to the beach and seaside. Glyndebourne, the world famous opera house , is just a ten minute drive away.
  • This little place is a gem. Location fantastic. So near shops. Restaurants. Pubs. Parks. Walks. 20 mins drive to a beautiful beach and coastal walk to seven sisters. Amazing views. Excellent hospitality with lovely touches. Great continental brekkie. Very clean and warm . Stu and aine are so welcoming and friendly. Can’t give a high enough rating. We will definitely return.

  • What a wonderful and cozy spot! A perfect place for a weekend getaway and I imagine even lovelier in the late spring/summer when the garden is in full bloom (though the fire was equally as nice for our time there). Aine and Stu were great throughout our time and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Recommend!

A quiet rural retreat in the picturesque village of East Hoathly. Yet only 2 minutes walk to the local pub. This stunning 2 bed, 2 bath self catering holiday cottage is newly renovated to a very high standard. It's modern, light & airy space opens out to a private patio garden.

Both of which serve fantastic food should you wish to eat out or mingle with the friendly locals. The village also has its own shop and post office plus other small businesses including a busy hairdressers.
  • This air&b was in the most ideallic location but not far from anything. It's was beautifully quiet and restful, nestled in the countryside. Wanted for nothing from an accommodation point of view which far exceeded expectations. Particularly loved the private sunny courtyard, the two fantastic and perfectly formed bathrooms, comfy beds, use of a washing machine, a clothes line in the courtyard, the local walks up the lanes, comfy courtyard chairs to sit in in the sun and last but by no means least a plethora of useful items one might need whilst away from home making it all feel like a home from home. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

    Jackie2020-04-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely little cottage set in within beautiful grounds. The cottage was sparkling clean and well- equipped in every aspect from towels to pots, various teas and a bag of toys and books to keep our son entertained. We had a lovely time spotting the birds as we breakfasted together! We would highly recommend this place and will certainly be back another day. Thank you Stephanie!

    Ros2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to stay in East Sussex. The cottage is excellent, with everything you need for a stay including Netflix which we took advantage of (the weather unfortunately was unremitting rain!) Everything was in very good order and sparkling clean throughout. The courtyard garden is lovely even though the rain meant we couldn't enjoy sitting in it, we did enjoy looking out at it. The bed in the double room is really comfortable and there was plenty of wardrobe space etc. which is always useful but not always available in cottages. Kitchen fully fitted out - we ate in a couple of times but also went to the King's Head in the village a couple of times. A lovely, friendly pub, with good pub food and we both enjoyed the Winter Solstice ale. Our dog, Bertie, was made welcome everywhere we went and he really enjoyed the King's Head too as he managed to wrangle quite a few dog biscuits out of them. Highly recommend this cottage even in the appalling weather we had.

From this location we visited Eastbourne, Uckfield, Tunbridge Wells, Rotherfield, Cross-In Hand, Lewes, Brighton, Newhaven, Ashdown Forrest and The Long Man of Wilmington. The pub was great, the Pizza Van on Wednesday night was delicious. Highly recommended!

    Darlene2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is perfect for us as we needed 2 en suite bedrooms. Spotlessly clean with a well equipped kitchen. The location is superb, down a quiet private driveway within a couple of minutes walk of a cosy village pub with it’s own brewery. Lovely private garden which would be perfect in the summer for al fresco dining.

    Ian2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully decorated cottage equipped with everything you could need for a relaxing stay (and more!). This place feels like a lot of thought has gone into it and is perfectly located for trips to many local towns and beaches. The pub and village shop are welcoming and less than ten minutes walk for days when you don’t want to drive. Thoroughly recommended!

Gate Cottage, which sleeps up to 6 people in 2 bedrooms plus a sofa-bed in the Living room, is a small cosy tile-hung country cottage with a nice sitting room (with open fireplace), a dining room and kitchen with lovely views, and a secure garden. Perfectly situated for events at Charleston, Glyndebourne, Firle, Lewes & Eastbourne, as well as the Seven Sisters, the Downs & the sea. All towels, linen and cleaning are included.
Gate Cottage is part of our 'Distinctly Different' Pekes Manor private estate, centred on its ancient Tudor Manor House, and including picturesque buildings like its old double-Oast House. Guests can enjoy facilities such as the heated indoor Swimming Pool and Tennis Court, and stroll around and enjoy the extensive gardens and parkland. Gate Cottage is at the entrance of the estate, is very peaceful and has lovely views across the park and fields.
The seaside towns of Eastbourne and Brighton are not far off, and its a short drive to historic Battle.

This is the ultimate country retreat, with local free range eggs for breakfast, plenty of walking routes around the South Downs to explore and a working fire place to snuggle beside in the colder months. Also extremely convenient if you are attending a wedding at Hawthbush farm, which is only a 20 minute walk away. • Steve, is a brilliant host. His communication was great right from the beginning of booking up until we arrived on Valentine’s Day. He popped in to say hello and gave very good directions to the pub for the evening. The space was very clean and very welcoming. Although only for one night, we had a great stay and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him. We were also chuffed to see the chickens make an appearance too!

Steve responded to messages very quickly and provided very clear instructions for my check-in. Thank You Steve for sharing local knowledge of places to visits and for your kindness and hospitality. I will certainly look your place up again if I am travelling to Sussex. Excellent value for money.

  • A really beautiful, peaceful, green space with a safe and enclosed garden for dogs. French doors looking out onto trees and field. Bed wonderfully comfortable. TV/Wifi worked well. Kettle and fridge with icebox, mugs and bowls, tea, coffee, milk provided (nothing more in the way of cooking facilities). A lovely place to stay. Would definitely return.

  • Absolutely Fabulous! If you are looking for a safe, tranquil environment....then please do book this place! The views are just stunning and the outside space is so much bigger than the photos show. We were greeted by Linda on arrival and after a quick tour were left to our own devices. ( Linda also left us plenty of wood for the fire pit which we co9uld use whenever we wished. Plenty of outdoor areas to make use of. Inside, everything has been thought of in order to make for a perfect stay. The bed is probably one of the best we have stayed in ( making it hard to leave for work in the mornings!) Linda and Ron are just really good people, who have created a very lovely environment and are so friendly. Cannot wait to have another stay here.

  • Barley Cottage is very spacious and comfortable, and exactly as it appears in the photographs. It’s also in a beautiful spot in the Sussex countryside. Katie was responsive and easy to deal with, despite the rather unusual and challenging circumstances of the coronavirus outbreak!

  • A beautiful cottage in a lovely rural location which is within easy reach of Lewes, Brighton and plenty more besides. Great communication from the host. Highly recommended.

  • Barley Cottage is the largest of three cottages owned and run by the award winning hospitality of Katie of Granary Cottages. We were fortunate to stay at Barley Cottage which was a self contained cottage with two bedrooms and ensuites bathroom upstairs and a lovely sun filled entrance foyer, dining, kitchen and sitting room. The space was very cosy and comfortable with adequate room for our family of four adults and one toddler. With central and underfloor heating, a fully equipped kitchen, we wanted for nothing else. The cottage was a clean and luxurious accommodation with wall to wall carpeting where appropriate. This well thought of cottage is a complete home and all one needs is to bring their suitcase thru the door. Katie was very responsive and helpful. She had installed a baby gate which was much appreciated. We would stay at Barley Cottage again in a heartbeat.

Beautiful barn, perfect for walkers, with a breakfast to set you up for the day. Also great as a comfortable, spacious base to explore the local countryside and cultural attractions including Glyndebourne, and the local Bloomsbury heritage. This spacious artist's home is located right on the South Downs Way, and only about an hour and a half walk to the coast at Exceat. There is a tree house for kids, swing seats for chilling out on, and the Cuckmere runs through the bottom of the garden.
Lovely secluded spot, giving directly onto the South Downs Way, as a welcome haven for walkers, close to the picturesque medieval village of Alfriston, with its numerous pubs and tea rooms, and a short walk from the popular rated Sussex Ox pub. It makes a great base for a longer stay as there are loads of local activities and days out to be had in the area, and enough space to just hang out and enjoy the garden.
Right on the South Downs way, and a good walk from the coast, there is also good access (30 mins) to Brighton, and close to Lewes and Eastbourne. The magnificent Birling Gap is a short drive, as is Charleston Manor, home to cultural icons, the Bloomsbury set,Glyndebourne is also a short drive away. Foodies can get delicious organic and local produce at Middle Farm which also provides great entertainment for children. Also Drusilla's Park is extremely close, an unforgettable day out for children with loads of activities and one of the best outdoor playgrounds I have ever seen.
  • Sarah's barn was beautiful - the perfect stop over on our walk from Lewes to Eastbourne. The hospitality was excellent and breakfast was brilliant. Loved it!

    Lizzie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z

  • Great property in a lovely place.

    Callum2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah is such a fantastic host and makes you feel so welcome. The fresh bread and breakfast each morning was such a nice touch. The barn is spectacular and is located in wonderful countryside with many pubs within 10 minutes walk. We battled Storm Dennis during our stay and the roaring fire kept us warm. This place is a great base for exploring the rest of the South Downs and I would highly recommend for a short or long stay.

  • Fantastic stay at Sarah’s place. The barn is beautiful, has everything you could need and is a short walk along the river to Alfriston. The Escape is a one-bedroom cottage, with an open plan living area downstairs. Upstairs has a double bedroom and shower room, with a large walk-in shower. The cosy warmth from the log burner makes The Escape perfect for romantic breaks or relaxation
The Escape is decorated in a modern functional style with, hopefully everything you need to enjoy your stay.
The Escape is set in open countryside, with an excellent 16th Century country Pub next door. The Cock serves great food and is a firm favourite with all our guests.

  • The cottage is in such a beautiful, peaceful setting you will feel instantly relaxed! We loved the contemporary decor and the wood burner. Our hosts left us alone but responded very quickly to our questions, which was just the right balance. A great place for a romantic retreat, with walks from the cottage and a pub next door.

    Rachel2020-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • A truly lovely stay, gorgeous tea & scones on arrival which set the tone for a wonderful few days. The cottage is very warm & homely. It’s a perfect location for getting out & about. The little dog called in on us Sunday evening, I think she smelt the lamb we were cooking. She came in and was very friendly. The log burner was wonderful, we had it on both Saturday & Sunday evening. Really lovely cottage, full of character. Beautiful waking up to the fields out the back & even saw a few bunnies jumping around. Joy always replies with quick responses and allowed us extra time this morning to check out. Would thoroughly recommend
