  • Wonderful stay! Amy and David’s Summer Kitchen is cozy and welcoming. We loved meeting their family and the animals! Hope to stay there again when we are in the area. Thank you!

  • Adorable, stylish, peaceful setting! Very comfortable.

    Jessica2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • A very fun hobby farm experience. The kids LOVED it! Dave and Amy and their daughter were incredibly warm and welcoming and let the kids jump right into trying out farm chores and interacting with the animals. The litter of kittens was a HUGE hit. Traveling with three kids is not usually relaxing for the adults but this trip was amazing. We had a very low-stress weekend at the farm and all came home refreshed.

  • Stayed with 3.5 year old twins. It was a child’s dream with all the animals, the loft, bunk beds, etc. Amy & Family are incredible hosts! Great family-friendly attractions nearby including Lac Qui Parle state park, Mansion of Mysteries Park, and the Chippewa County Historical Society’s Pioneer Village.

  • Really beautiful farm experience and charming barn stay. Would have loved to stay longer

    Natalie2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place is clean and cozy. Cant beat it for the price.

    Chase2019-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at the Summer Kitchen during a week-long course at nearby Lac qui Parle State Park. It was the perfect place for me come back to after class! It is very spacious and open, with plenty of windows for light and air. The week I was there, the temperatures during the day were in the high 80s, but the sleeping loft was comforable becase of high ceilings, huge window and and ceiling fan. The kitchen had everything I needed. If you're planning to come with several people, you might want to bring a cooler for some things, since the refrigerator is dorm-size. I had great reception for my mobile phone and was able to use it as a hotspot for internet access when I was working on a class assignment. The hosts Amy and David are very responsive to any questions or needs. For example, one evening I had a problem with water pressure in the kitchen. David diagnosed and fixed the problem within about 10 minutes. Amy is a passionate and enthusiastic expert on the prairie biome of this beautiful area. Ask her stuff! Don't miss looking at constellations in the dark night sky, visiting Lac qui Parle State Park, and noshing at Talking Waters brewery in Montevideo (closed Monday & Tuesday).

    Celsie2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A great deal for this place. Elizabeth is very attentive and kind and responded right away. It is a cute place however not very friendly for 2 couples staying, but we made due with the single beds! 🤗

  • We have not gotten to enjoy our trip to Big Stone yet, however, we intended to go a couple of weekends ago and got hit by a major snow storm. I cannot comment to the details of the cabin just yet, but thus far we have had an amazing experience with the host. She helped us to find another time to utilize our trip due to unforeseen weather conditions. Kudos for great customer service.

This has been a wonderful undertaking, preparing my rental house into an airbnb. I seen lots of potential and need for guests to be able to have a clean, comfortable and super private, spacious living space for their stay while out and about on whatever they might be doing, weather it be visiting with family, out hunting, or on their road trip just exploring what Western Minnesota has to offer!
This is a turn of the century home that offers enough space for you to relax and visit. Right now it offers 2 queen bedrooms with soon an addition of another. 1 full bathroom on the same floor as the bedrooms. Notice the beautiful wood work and open stairway! The front porch is there 3 seasons for you to relax and spread out ~Tv is there for you to use with the DVD player and some movies to pick from. Help your self to the use of the furnished kitchen, dishwasher and washer and dryer, coffee and coffee pot is there for you as well.
The town of Madison Loutifisk Capital USA, is quaint and full of friendly people! It offers a few different restaurants, and retail stores, and a wonderful county museum. A Movie Theater! Many different celebrations throughout the year including the county fair!~ It is in western Minnesota which has an abundance of history and beauty in the river valley for many miles around. There is Lac qui Parle State Park and Lqp Lake 15 min drive, wonderful walley fishing lake~ LqP County Park offering some great trails and beautiful huge Oak trees~10 min drive, Big Stone Lake is only 25 min drive to the North West. Lots of things too numerous to mention :)

Beautiful lakefront property on Big Stone Lake only steps from downtown Ortonville!
  • Great location right on the lake. Good communication from the owners. House was clean and just what our group of 6 guys was looking for. Great home base to rest and relax after a couple long days hunting pheasants.

  • Everything met our expectations and several things exceeded them. The hosts were great, very responsive and caring. The property was spacious for activities. The house was clean and updated with plenty of room for our large family. The kayaks and paddle boards were an added bonus, and the kids (and adults) got great use out of them. The town was within walking distance, as well as a nice beach. Corn fest was going on the weekend we stayed and the whole family was able to join in the festivities. Overall, a fantastic trip in a fantastic location with fantastic hosts!

The Lakeside is about 1,000 sq. ft.& part of this 135-year old brick home on Big Stone Lake. You'll lodge within 24" thick brick walls, wood floors, old-world charm, & still have all the comforts of today. We are on/above Big Stone Lake & in town. Outdoor activities & the prairies await you--a map is provided. This is a very hilly, beautiful area along the lake; park-like with all the trees. You’ll have a door security code sent to you 2 days prior. Zoning laws prohibit parties and events.
This was a family home until the l930's, when the upstairs was converted into two apartments. We rent both. Guests have about 1,000 square feet which includes private entrance, bedroom (Queen Gel-top mattress), living room, shower/bath, dinette, kitchen, & a deck in the trees. Also, new to the Lakeside Suite is a day bed, with new mattress (twin) & trundle underneath. We live on the main floor and try to be available if you have any questions. This suite is best suited to 2 adults & children as the twin beds are most comfortable for them. Monthly renters may want to google me. The price is for two. Please be sure to include them when you book as they are priced separately. Thank you.
Lakewood Lodge is a great place for dinner & just up the road a mile. Our Carnegie Library is a block away. Many Friday nights Sioux Historic Pavillion built in the early 1900's, still is open for rollerskating and is just a mile away. Ortonville was a tourism hot spot at the turn of the century, and parts of that time are still alive in our downtown. Across the lake are some of the original cabins built for Chautauqua Park, a community learning & vacation center active at the turn-of-the-century and into the 1930's. Many local artists show their work downtown and we now have a new art gallery. There are several antique treasure troves to visit. I have quite a few myself and have them displayed downstairs if you'd like to shop or look on Etsy for Prairiemere. For being on the prairie, the immediate area is very hilly, thickly wooded, and situated at the south end of Big Stone Lake. You can expect to watch nature up close. My husband & I have lived here all our lives and can direct you to anything you wish to see.
  • If your looking for a great sanctuary this is the place. Beautiful lake view and everything you should need close by.

    Chris2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful, relaxing place! Clean, private, and Mary is helpful with lots of suggestions of what to do in the area. The window a/c kept up with the hot, humid temps, and the room-darkening shades were great to have to be able to sleep in. It was a perfect getaway for my husband and me. The Lingonberry coffee shop just a few blocks away quickly became a favorite place...we walked there every day.

Please note, The Lincoln House is not available for rental in November. The Lincoln House is close to (not on) the foot of Big Stone Lake. You’ll love calling The Lincoln House home. The Lincoln House is great for everyone including furry friends (dogs, for an extra flat $100 pet fee). Please check our rates, base rate listed is for 2 people, there are additional fees for more people.
The Lincoln House was built in 1895 and was considered a "grand house" in its day. Many families have lived in it over the years and that along with weather took its toll. We love the property and have renovated it with love, we hope that you will feel relaxed, comfortable and at home while staying there.
The Lincoln House is located in a quiet residential neighborhood.
  • This place was great for us! Thanks!!

    John2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed for our fishing trip. This home has great beds and very clean. The kitchen had everything we needed. This was short drive to public lake access and a quick walk to downtown. The next time we are back in the area we would stay here again.

    Brittany2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Sue had an excellent response time! (Minutes) we wanted to book day of for a business trip and she worked with us. Even with a slight delay she had a back up house ready just incase hers didn't work out that evening after already booking. Highly recommend and will come back if ever in the area. :)

  • Very friendly, accommodating hosts. Having 2 restrooms was great especially with one being downstairs. Nice screened in porch.

    Shirley2019-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • The place is basically the best bang for the bucks.

    Chris2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the size of the living spaces; big kitchen, nice dining room, comfortable seating for all four of us in the living room. We all agreed on how comfortable the place is. Everything met our needs. We especially appreciated a nice sized coffee-maker. So many places are switching to Keurigs so you can't make a nice big pot of coffee for everyone. There was even a pizza pan in the cupboard!

The Tower Suite is about 1,000 sq.ft, newly renovated & part of this 135-year-old brick home on Big Stone Lake. (Zoning laws prohibit parties & events.)
This was a family home until the 1930's, when the upstairs was converted into two apartments. We rent the lakeside & the tower suites. Guests have about 1,000 sq. ft., private entrance, living room (couch) & tower, dinette, kitchen, bedroom (new pilow-topped queen-size, 859 coil count), shower/bath, air conditioning, wi-Fi & cable tv. Recently renovated, this suite provides the ambience of a tower, curved glass windows, wood floors, a bay window with all the comforts of today. I provide coffee for the c.maker & muffins. If you wish to cook, the kitchen has the necessary equipment, & please ask if you need anything. Lingonberry's, a sweets & coffee shop is a 3-block stroll down main street. We live on the main floor and try to be available if you have any questions. There is a fire-pit area in case you'd like to have a campfire& a dock for canonballs.

Ortonville was a turn-of-the-century tourism hot-spot & parts of that time are still alive in our downtown. There is a new art gallery downtown with an active schedule of classes. We also have several antique treasure troves in the area--I have a map. I have quite a few antiques I sell here and on Etsy under the name, Prairiemere. Let me know if you want to stop in downstairs. South Dakota is across the lake & some of the original cabins built for Chautauqua Park, a 1900 campground & learning center, still stand. Their association has many historical markers of interest. We watch glorious sunsets & impressive storms. My pictures of this area are on Instagram under the name: mbtmn.

  • We stayed at Mary’s tower for the weekend of our wedding and it was absolutely incredible!! The tower has the cutest touches. It’s very welcoming & cozy! She was so sweet and had bagels, muffins & coffee for us! Better than any hotel honeymoon suite! I would recommend staying with her to anyone I know!

  • Mary has a premier location on the lake in Ortonville. Great view, and close access to downtown. The place itself is unique and historic to the town, and a rare treat to experience.

    Wade2018-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed our stay in this very unique and homey suite! We loved the convenience of having a separate entrance with a passcode to get into the Tower suite, so we didn't have to time our arrival to when Mary or Paul were home. We didn't get a chance to meet either of them, because we were gone most of the time, but Mary responded quickly to any messages that I sent. We loved the little touches that she provided - delicious muffins, a white noise machine by the bed, etc. She has put a lot of thought and effort into what will make her guests comfortable. We would definitely stay again if we are in the area.

    Marlys2018-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Shorewood Castle Tower was comfortable and included everything we needed. The kitchen was well equipped. I especially appreciated that it was clean and fresh without being perfumed. Mary will help with your luggage at check-in and check-out, by driving it up the steep driveway, but the steps down from the parking on the street and the steps up to the second floor room are not difficult. Mary and her family are friendly but not intrusive. The location is fabulous - just a short walk downtown. The room was stocked with fresh muffins, single-serve oatmeal, and the makings for coffee and tea.

  • Definitely a great place to stay. More than enough room for a big group! Owner of the place was real kind and sweet. Amazing view of the lake. Everything was nice and neat, many things were provided and I was so grateful. I definitely recommend this place!

Original 1925 chicken coop restored beautifully as a 900 sf Guest House on the farm.
We are located 4 miles south of the foot of Big Stone Lake and the head waters of the Minnesota River. The farm was established in 1886 and has many of the original buildings. The Guest House has barn plank siding, carpeted floors and a fir wood ceiling. The kitchen has modern appliances and and all the cookware and utensils necessary. The queen bed has a new mattress.
The guest house is separated from the main house and is very private with views into the trees. The property is in the country with other farms nearby. It is a short 10 minute drive into Milbank or Ortonville and blacktop roads are only one mile away. 11 chickens, 2 dogs and 6 cats live on the farm.
  • Great get-away place - quiet rural setting, cozy retreat from big city life - very comfortable bed. Everything was super clean and fully furnished with all that you need and more. The owners, Cris and Donna, couldn't be nicer or more accommodating. Would definitely stay there again!

  • If you want a place that is unique, cozy, comfortable, quiet, homey, and well equipped, you will love this “coop”. Cris and Donna are fantastic hosts! And we really enjoyed feeding apples to the donkeys! Only ONE problem. We didn’t want to leave!!!

  • Stayed here for three nights while ice fishing. It had everything we could have asked for, lake access 50 yards away, an excellent restaurant next door and all the basic dishes/utensils you could need. We are already talking about staying here again next year.

One-room private cottage farmstay, part of century farmstead, includes original art, handmade furniture, fresh flowers, good birding. Our canoe, grill, campfire and beach are available to guests. Bathing facilities nearby in main farmhouse.
Our farmstay is part of a working organic farm. The Broodio was originally a "brooder house" for raising young chickens, then became an art studio and has been lodging for farm guests since the mid 1990's.
The Upper Minnesota River Valley is a unique undulating landscape and here in Montevideo the Chippewa River enters the Minnesota. A small direct tributary of the Minnesota flows through Moonstone Farm, providing attraction for wildlife, photography and birding.
  • A beautiful place to escape and unwind, with local honey to sweeten a morning coffee while watching the sunrise by the pond! We will definitely be back!

  • Audrey and Richards farm is a gorgeous place for you to stay. They are welcoming and genuinely interesting people. Their farm is quiet so you can really enjoy being away from the hustle and bustle. The cottage itself is quaint with standard amenities, all that you really need. We got to use their outdoor oven to make pizza and went for a quick canoe ride afterwards. Overall a great place to stay!

  • The Broodio is warm and welcoming cabin. Audrey and Richard's Moonstone Farm was a great getaway. Enjoy their organic meats and cheeses as well. Walk the fields and woods and take in the big sky. BREATHE.

  • Had a great time at Moonstone. Stayed in Montevideo to visit the Swift County Fair in nearby Appleton and the ORV park. Moonstone was a great location and the hosts were great!

  • Moonstone was incredible! So secluded, relaxing, and welcoming. Audrey and Richard were the sweetest hosts and ensured we had everything we needed. The Broodio was quaint and comfortable. Wish we would have known about Moonstone years ago!
