Cottage in Kimswerd

"De Gulle splendor" Vacation home, Friesland

Our cozy vacation cottage, originally was an old stable that we (Caroline and Jan) converted together, with lots of love and respect for the old details and materials, into this "Gulle Pracht". Through a private driveway with parking, you reach the terrace with the spacious garden, a lawn with surrounding tall trees, where you can enjoy. Through the two French doors, you step into the bright and cozy living room with the white old beams and a fully equipped open kitchen. There is wireless internet available, TV and DVD. Because of the ceiling in the living room that has been removed, beautiful light falls in from the skylights and you have a view of the roof structure with the old round hoods. The beds are located on top of the two lofts. The comfortable double bed is accessed by an open staircase. The other loft, where a third or fourth bed can possibly be made, is only accessible by flexible guests via a ladder. It is not suitable for small children because of the danger of falling, but older children find it exciting to sleep there. Please note, the two lofts share the same large open space. Under the old beams, you can sleep peacefully, where only the sound of rustling trees, whistling birds or your deliciously snoring bedmate will be heard. The room is heated by central heating, but also only the wood-fired stove can heat the cottage comfortably. You will be provided with enough wood from us to start a cozy fire. Through an old stable door in the living room, you come to the bathroom with beamed ceiling and underfloor heating. The bathroom has a good shower, double sink and toilet. With its inlaid mosaics and all kinds of funny and old details, this space is also a feast for the eyes. There are two bicycles available for nice trips in the wider area (Harlingen, Franeker Bolsward). We may want to drop you off in Harlingen for a crossing to Terschelling. You can leave the car in our yard for a while. We, ourselves, live in the farmhouse which is in the same yard. We are available for help, information and advice for fun trips in our beautiful Friesland. Your cottage and our farmhouse are separated by our garden and the big old barn (with pool table), so we both have our own space and privacy. Kimswerd , located on the eleven city route is a small, quiet and beautiful village where our Frisian hero " de Grutte Pier" was born and lived. He still watches over us, in petrified form, at the beginning of our little street, next to the centuries-old Church, which is very much worth visiting as well. You can do your shopping in Harlingen, the supermarket is a fifteen minute bike ride away. The old port of Harlingen is 10 km from our cottage. Kimswerd is located just across the Afsluitdijk. From there, follow the signs N31 Harlingen/ Leeuwarden/Zurich and take the first exit at Kimswerd, 1st right at the traffic circle, 1st right again at the next traffic circle, straight ahead at the intersection, across the bridge and immediately take the first left (Jan Timmerstraat). At the beginning of this street, next to the church, stands the statue of the Grutte Pier. We live in the farmhouse behind the church, Jan Timmerstraat 6, first wide gravel path on the right. - For small children, sleeping on the loft without a fence is not advisable because of the danger of falling. It's just fun for big kids, the loft is accessible by a ladder. Please note, it is above 1 large open space with no privacy.

You will be staying in a comfortable, fully furnished holiday home, the "Dashuis". The house is next to our private house and has a private entrance. You have your own, enclosed terrace with plenty of privacy. In the immediate vicinity, there is a good chance that you will encounter deer or a kingfisher. The location is in a natural area with spacious walking and cycling possibilities. Cities are easily accessible, Leeuwarden 30 min., Groningen 40 min. A direct bus to Heerenveen with, among other things, the Thialf ice stadium.

We had a wonderful week. The house has all the comforts, including a very nice kitchen. Also nice was the sun in the front garden, where we could have breakfast quietly. The location is nice and quiet, so we were able to sleep really well. In the area we enjoyed the nature, the tranquility and the friendly people. The reception was warm and personal, even our dog Bettie received a warm welcome. All in all recommended, we will definitely come back. Finally, I would like to mention Dokkum, a very nice town with special shops and good restaurants. Thank you Coen and Anne (and Marianne) for this beautiful, wonderful week. A fantastic vacation home with incredibly warm landlords. We had a wonderful time with 2 toddlers, 4 adults and our senior dog. Super equipped kitchen, cozy living room, comfortable beds and a great terrace make for a wonderful vacation. Many beautiful experiences are possible around Grou, for people of all ages. But the best thing was the unconditional helpfulness when we were stranded because unfortunately the car key ended up in the trunk, the car locked! Everything in it! And now we had to drive to Germany with car 2 to get a spare key… Thank you Auke & Marie Christine for letting us wait safely with you 🙏

We had a wonderful stay at Marc's apartment, which is modern and tastefully decorated. Everything was very clean and we felt comfortable in all rooms. We found it very convenient to have a safe parking space right in front of the house. Also great: Bakery and supermarket are within walking distance in 10 minutes. Around Sneek there are many excursion possibilities, especially the smaller places, such as Workum, have their own charm and are worthwhile destinations. We will be happy to come back!

Very cozy, clean caravan in a quiet, natural environment with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The kitchen is very well equipped. The entire complex (showers, pool,...) is also very clean and well maintained. We had the heating on at night, everything worked out great. The staff at the reception were also very friendly. Communication with Stefan was very good. Questions were answered helpfully and quickly. The WiFi connection in the caravan was not always available, but with the existing games, bicycles and the cozy evenings on the beautiful terrace, that was no problem for us. The WiFi connection at the front of the reception/at the pool was very good. It's a perfect place to switch off.

It was super nice. The accommodation is beautifully located with a unique view of the IJsselmeer. As a result, there is also constantly fresh air, wind, and the sound of the water. We loved that. On the dike, there is also a beach for swimming. Good beds, great kitchen and shower, nice living room to relax. Everything you need for a relaxing holiday is there. The dog has also been thought of. Very nice house in a wonderful location. The water property with the beautiful terrace is really special. The house is bright and spacious. We arrived as a family with 7 people, it was perfect for that. In March, it was still a little chilly to use the terrace extensively, but the fireplace in the cozy living room was worth gold. We felt very comfortable.

We stayed with Marian for a short trip and we were warmly welcomed. The accommodation is very clean and stylishly decorated. The breakfast is very tasty. Our dog was also no problem at all. The surroundings are relaxed and perfect for a getaway. We'd love to come back!
