Welcome to WyldeRoots River House — where the river runs directly outside your door.

Cool off in this summer heat - Wild swimming from your doorstep.

Waterfalls pouring into natural granite pools. Ancient ruins in the forest.

No traffic. No noise. Just water over stone and birdsong.

Fall asleep to the river. Wake to mist in the valley. Swim before breakfast in water so clear it feels like a secret.

Private river access, hammocks, outdoor dining.

The space
A restored stone cottage tucked into a fold of wild central Portugal that most people never find.

The thick stone walls mean the inside is cool and silent — the river is there when you want it, gone when you close the door.

Both the river and your drinking water come from separate mountain springs — pure, cold, and clean straight from the source.

Sleep with the sound of the river through the window when open or in silence when closed .

Wake up and walk straight to the water which is right outside the door .

The bedroom has a queen bed and views straight to the river.

When you’re done swimming, come back to a comfortable lounge with soft lighting, books, and games. A dining area for two.

A kitchen stocked with everything you need. A clean shower bathroom.

Outside is where the magic lives. Your own private stretch of river. Swimming pools carved over centuries into granite. Waterfalls. Hammocks strung between trees.

2 outdoor dining tables one with a direct river view , where dinner tastes better as the light fades through the valley. A Portuguese bread oven and BBQ if you want them.

WiFi that works when you need it.

Electric bike and mountain bike to borrow. Indoor bike storage if you bring your own.

* Pets welcome — as long as they’re relaxed around dogs and cats.*

500m from the door an eco trail crosses an old Eiffel-era iron bridge with views to the Caramulo mountains. Flat, 48km, perfect for cycling or long evening sunset walks .

Close enough to everything. Far enough to feel like you’ve escaped.

• Viseu city (groceries, restaurants) — 12 min
• Caramulo mountain peaks — 20 min
• Coimbra — 45 min
• Aveiro beaches and flamingo — 1hr
• Buçaco forest and palace — 1hr

Just beautiful old buildings, a river that’s been here for thousands of years, and the kind of silence most people have forgotten exists.

Come and do nothing for a while. You’ll leave lighter than you arrived.

Where you’ll be

Coutos de Viseu, Viseu, Portugal

Mosteirinho and Passos are two quaint villages near Viseu, Portugal, each offering unique cultural and historical experiences. The property is on its own forest in between these two villages …

Mosteirinho: This small village is renowned for its picturesque landscapes and historical structures. A notable landmark is the metal bridge, often attributed to Gustave Eiffel, which was part of the former Dão railway line, now transformed into an ecopista (eco-trail). This trail offers scenic views of the village and the surrounding Caramulo mountains. The village also features the charming Chapel of São Salvador do Mundo, nestled among traditional granite houses and narrow streets. For families, there's a fenced playground with equipment for children's amusement.

Passos: Located in the Silgueiros parish, Passos is a serene village characterized by its rich cultural heritage. The village is home to the Biblioteca de Passos de Silgueiros, a cultural center that serves as a hub for community activities and literary events. Additionally, the Parque Infantil de Passos offers a recreational space for children, featuring various play equipment. The village's tranquil environment and community facilities make it a charming place to visit.

Both villages exemplify the traditional charm of the Viseu region, offering visitors a glimpse into Portugal's rural heritage and community life.
