Sleep in a renovated one-room schoolhouse on a working farm—just off HWY 281 and 15 mins from I-40 & Route 66. Stargaze, spot deer, fish the pond, shower under the sky (yes, really), and unwind by the fire pit. It’s peaceful, private, and a little offbeat—just how we like it. Great for couples or solo folks who need a break from the noise. Read the full listing & check pics before booking!
The space
🏡 Welcome to the Schoolhouse!
Make sure to read all the way to the bottom—especially the “can’t believe I have to say this” parts 😉.
If the idea of sipping coffee on a deck while listening to coyotes in the distance at night—and waking up to birdsong and sunrise through big windows—sounds like your kind of magic, then you’ve found the right Schoolhouse.
This is country quiet, the kind you don’t realize you miss until you’re in it. That said, bugs exist (especially if you leave the door open), and while we work hard to keep the space clean and cozy, this is a rustic, offbeat cabin—not a luxury hotel. No one lives here full-time, and we use minimal chemicals inside to keep it safe for everyone.
There’s no TV and no distractions, but we do have central heat and air, conventional plumbing, and blazing fast fiber internet—so you can still stream your music or upload your travel pics.
Whether you're road-tripping across the country or planning a no-fuss, peaceful recharge, the Schoolhouse is a great stopover or destination.

We do occasionally host events here, but your stay will be private—and while we’ll check on the farm, no one will enter the schoolhouse during your visit.
📍 Location
We’re tucked away in western Oklahoma, about:
15 minutes north of I-40 and Route 66
Just off HWY 281
Close to Roman Nose State Park and Red Rock Canyon
If you’re unfamiliar with rural distances: we’re on a “quarter section less 20,” meaning it’s nearly a half-mile square, surrounded by a five-wire fence. Stay inside the fence line—crossing it means you’re on the neighbor’s land (not a crisis, but not polite either). You’ll find maps in the Schoolhouse to help.
🧢 Things to Know Before You Book:
Last-minute booking? Turn on notifications—we’ll reach out to confirm your check-in time based on our schedule.
Late summer brings sand burrs—wear closed-toed shoes if you plan to explore!
Please don’t mess with the bifold door dividers. They're chained up for a reason. We really don’t want to fix them again.
No surprise guests. If you book for two and show up with four, we will contact Airbnb and—yes—have the County Deputy escort you off the property, even at 2am. This isn’t a party house. Try a hotel for that vibe.
We’re proud of this little slice of Oklahoma and love sharing it with guests who respect nature, quiet, and the quirky charm of a restored Schoolhouse in the middle of nowhere. We hope you’ll love it too.
Guest access
Guests are welcome to explore the full 140 acres surrounding the Schoolhouse, including access to the pond for peaceful fishing. Please note—the pond is not designed for swimming, so we kindly ask that you enjoy it from the bank only. 😊
As this is a working farm and natural habitat, wildlife is part of the experience. Recently, wild hogs have been spotted feeding near the pond. They’re usually noisy, so you’ll likely hear them before you see them. Please stay alert in that area, and do not approach them—wild hogs can be territorial and unpredictable.
We want you to enjoy your time on the land while staying safe and respectful of the environment.
Other things to note
The Schoolhouse is perfectly situated between two scenic state parks:
Red Rock Canyon to the south (Hinton, OK)
Roman Nose to the north (Watonga, OK)
Plus, American Horse Lake is just 5 miles west—a peaceful hidden gem for fishing or picnicking.
In the summer, the town of Geary opens its beautifully renovated WPA-era pool, complete with the original stone bathhouse. It’s a great spot to cool off and is located next to local ball fields and a playground.
Roman Nose State Park also offers a public pool, as well as creeks for wading and hiking trails with stunning views. If you’re passing through Watonga on your way there, don’t miss their splash pad—a fun stop for a quick cool-down.
LONG TERM RENTAL
Due to increased interest—especially from those working in the nearby oil fields—I do occasionally consider long-term rentals. However, there are very specific conditions:
The Schoolhouse is closed from November to March. It's difficult to heat in winter, and the outdoor shower isn’t usable in colder temps.
I will not cancel existing short-term reservations. If you're able to plan well in advance, feel free to reach out.
Please come prepared with a monthly rate in mind when inquiring, and be upfront about your expectations.
The space is open-concept. It is not ideal for more than two people, as there’s little privacy.
I do not allow the space to be shared between more than two people, and local water access cannot support heavier use.
I do have neighbors, and I will know if extra people are living in the Schoolhouse. Please respect these boundaries.
Thanks for reading through this section before reaching out—it helps keep the experience positive for everyone involved.
