A typical African style cottage with a large veranda, overlooking the River Nile. The garden has a wide variety of birds and monkeys. Cool off in the swimming pool or catch your own fish for lunch. 5km from Jinja, the adventure capital of E. Africa.
“THE PLACE: Everything about this place screams Relaxing. The hammock by the riverside, the hammock hanging by the front porch, the monkeys playing about in the trees, the three lovely dogs and the swimming pool.... absolutely everything is designed to make you feel completely relaxed. THE HOUSE: Well designed and impecably designed. Had all we needed for a weekend stay. We stayed during the dry season so it was hot at night, but had a little fan that helped during the night. Hope in the future we can have a larger fan. Spend time in the hammock swinging in the front porch and your worries ought to disappear. THE TOWN: The town isn't too far off and you can go eat a nice selection of food while staying here. The host, Ingrid, recommeded an indian restaurant that we found delightful. Jinja is a nice place and a great escape from noisy and rowdy Kampala capital city. HOST: Ms. Ingrid was a lovely host, which shouldn't be shocking as she's been in Uganda for a while and knows Jinja in and out. Ask her for local restaurant recommendations and she will be of help. She replied to all my queries which we brought up. TIPS: If coming from kampala, use the kayunga-Kampala road because it is a newer road that is faster and also has less traffic overall. Come earlier so you spend time by the river hammock doing absolutely nothing but swinging about aimlessly (just like the gods of the nile intended 😄) Talk to the nearby mto Moyoni resort folk and they will hook you up with a boat ride around the surrounding areas. Costs not more than $30”

“This place is really nice for Jinja. It is very well located, close to main street (where you can find most places to eat / buy souvenirs /buy groceries). The place is quiet and you can easily make it your home for a couple days. I stayed for 3 weeks and Taylor was really there for me to make it as nice as possible ! You will find everything you may need in the kitchen. Also, the sofa is so comfy to relax at the end of the day. Thank you Taylor for your kindness !”
Our newly build Guest House is run by Icelandic & Swedish people in a safe area 5min from The source of the river Nile & 5min from Jinja town. The Guest House has fantastic art & design all over the place, great breakfast & free fast WIFI!
“If you're planning to spend time in Jinja and need a place to stay, Source of the Smile is a great option. The staff is all extremely friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. Ellert is a great host and, upon arriving, greeted us warmly and offered us complimentary delicious cold drinks. Whenever we wanted to leave the guesthouse, Ellert or one of his staff would call a trusted boda for us and they would pick is up at the door. The guesthouse was also very clean and safe with two guards checking people in at the gate. On our first night, we ordered Indian food from a local place that Ellert recommended and ate some of the most delicious Indian food I've ever had by the poolside. To top it all off, I accidentally forgot my Kindle and they graciously shipped it back to me. We couldn't recommend Source of the Smile more and will definitely be returning next time we visit Jinja.”
