What are house manuals and house rules?

Hosts share their House Rules to set expectations with their guests. These rules can cover anything that’s important for guests to know, like limits on smoking, areas beyond the listing space that are off-limits, and permission to have visitors.

The House Rules appear on each listing page so that guests can review them before requesting a reservation. They’re also sent directly to a guest once they’ve a confirmed reservation.

Hosts can add House Rules to their listing after completing the steps required to list their space. To add or edit:

  1. Click your name in the top-right corner of airbnb.com
  2. Select Your Listings
  3. Under the listing you want to edit, click Manage Listing and Calendar
  4. Select Details on the left-hand side of the screen, and scroll down to the Extra Details section to update House Rules

A House Manual explains how features of the listing work. Hosts can let their guests know how to turn on the hot water heater or where they can find an extra blanket. Guests receive this information in an email once they’ve confirmed a reservation—it isn’t included on a listing page.
