I stayed at Griet's for a week while visiting Mechelen for a conference. The attic room is peaceful, comfortable, and like a little cottage atop of her house - private yet still connected through shared hallways, bathroom, and a gorgeous backyard. Griet was communicative and flexible with check in, supplied me with eggs from her chickens, and a powerful fan when the weather got very hot for a few days. She took time to talk with me about Mechelen and Belgium, and social issues in the world. Much of the time I was in and out of my room without much interaction, but openness to conversation and exchange really brightened my days. This was hands down one of my favorite experiences facilitated through AirBnB.

we stayed here because we were going to a wedding party nearby. we could arrive late and let ourselves in with a key from a safe. Good bed, nice room. for people with mobility problems the stairs may be a bit steep but for us it was ok. The house is very nicely decorated. We had to leave the room at 9 a.m., but early after a short night.

Maarten's house is in the heart of the city, very convenient on foot for everything the city has to offer and easy to access, following the precise directions provided. The space is impeccable, if possible better than the description and photos: excellent minimal taste, well-kept, clean and tidy, with a thousand small touches, not at all obvious. There is also a corner for the preparation of small meals, with a kettle and microwave, the table is large and comfortable and Maarten provides dishes but also quality coffee. The small and delightful garden gives the room an extra breath. Highly recommended. Lier is very pleasant, lively and interesting in itself, but also a good starting point for visiting nearby cities. Thank you Maarten, we had a great time!
