The space
This house was built around 1900, and still retains much of it's Victorian charm. Set on a residential street a short distance from the marina, it would be very suitable for cyclists, walkers or as a crew house when mooring your boat nearby, or anyone looking for a good base to explore the island. The utility sun lounge that adjoins the kitchen is a great space for storing bikes or pushchairs or drying wet gear, and the rear garden is fully fenced and safe for children or dogs. There is a cosy and comfortable separate lounge with TV, dining room and kitchen. The only bathroom is downstairs, and upstairs are 3 good size bedrooms, one king size, one twin and a single. Stairs are fairly steep. Travel cot and highchair provided under the stairs, please bring your own cot bedding and mattress topper, no stair gates, but all doors are fitted.
Free on street parking.
East Cowes town is small, friendly and quiet with it's own sand/shingle beach at the far end of the Esplanade, next to a fabulous children's play park with a large paddling pool open in summer months, and has a number of pubs and restaurants. The Lifeboat is a great pub and very close . There is also a Waitrose store at the end of the street with good cooking facilities at the house. There is a frequent chain ferry across to Cowes.

Osborne House (English Heritage) is just a short distance away and well worth a visit, as is Carisbrooke Castle. Osborne now allows full access to it's private beach and has extensive grounds ( dogs allowed on leads)
This is a pet friendly property but please clear the garden of any poop when you leave. Please keep pets downstairs and off the sofa where possible.
All linen is provided and included in the cleaning fee.

We are able to offer you a discounted ferry crossing. An automated message will be sent once you have booked and we can direct you to our online form.

Guest access
You will have complete access to all areas of the house while at our house. We want you to feel welcome and comfortable. You can usually park for free directly outside the property. It is fine to use the area outside the house marked disabled parking as this is no longer in use.
There is a simple thermostat for the heating in the kitchen area. Just turn it up ir down so you are warm and comfortable but please be mindful of not wasting energy. Thank you

Other things to note
Please note that is is a residential area and noise after hours is not acceptable.
We have a quiet hours policy of 2200-0800.

The garden is fully enclosed for your dog but be mindful that clearing the garden of dog deposits is a requirement and responsible thing to do.

We want you to be warm and feel comfortable but we ask guests to be aware of the cost and environmental effects of excessive use of the heating.

Neighborhood highlights

East Cowes is a really great getaway location, and ideal base for exploring this beautiful island. East Cowes itself is a quiet, peaceful small town with several lovely cafes and restaurants, and a good size Waitrose and smaller Co-op. It was the preferred destination for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who had Osborne House built in an Italianate style.
Osborne House is within walking distance of our house, and in addition to the house, which is still arranged just how Victoria and Albert designed it, there are also extensive grounds to which you can take your dog, that are beautifully landscaped, plus the private beach, so if history interests you, this would make a fantastic day out, plus of course Carisbrooke Castle near Newport, where King Charles 1st was held during the civil war. Both these attractions are owned by English Heritage so it may be worth joining so you can visit as often as you like during your stay. Also with English Heritage you are entitled to a discount of up to 20%on ferry travel with Wightlink.

We are very accessible from the mainland links, either by car or train. You can easily walk from the car ferry terminal in East Cowes and there is free on street parking. It is actually possible to catch a train from London on Friday afternoon and be in our garden in the evening with a glass of wine in hand! Setting yourself up for a great getaway and ready to explore the beautiful Isle of Wight
The house is very well situated being very close to the East Cowes Marina and just a short stroll into the town and on to the classic boat museum and beach with it's outside relaxing café (open in summer months only). We are also within close proximity of Ryde with it's extensive sandy beaches and pretty High Street for bars, shopping and entertainment venues. The floating bridge is just a short walk away, and this takes you across the River Medina into West Cowes with all it's sailing attractions. Newport has a good range of shops and restaurants as well and is just a short drive or bus trip away.

We are only a few minutes walk from the East Cowes marina, and The Lifeboat pub, so we are a prefect location for yachtsmen visiting the Island for any of our exciting sailing events, and the house would make a perfect crew base.
A short drive brings you to Arreton barns and access onto the downs with extensive walking routes, or take a visit to the tranquil Quarr Abbey.

A slightly longer drive of about 30 minutes gets you to the south or west sides of the island, to explore the many sandy beaches and dramatic landscapes of the Undercliff, and Ventnor with it's Botanic Garden, or out to the rural West Wight area of Tennyson Down and The Needles. With so much to do you will be truly spoilt for choice.
