Neighborhood highlights

The village of Highland Falls is know for being the gateway to West Point and was incorporated in 1906 and was originally known as Buttermilk Falls. Many of the rich and famous came to the Hudson Highlands for the summertime. Notables such as J.P. Morgan, and General Roe made homes in Highland Falls. You can find Roe Pond today in Highland Falls. The site today where the Museum and West Point Visitor Center are located were once a hotel known as Cranston’s Hotel. Abraham Lincoln, General Sherman, the Prince of Whales later King Edward VII of England all stayed at the hotel. The site later became Ladycliff Academy. In 1982 when the community welcomed back the Iranian hostages, Highland Falls became known as “Hometown USA”.

Just as Douglas MacArthur’s mom, Pinky, did in 1899, I have done the same—I bought a house in Highland Falls to be near my two cadet sons. I love being so close I can walk to Thayer Gate and up to Trophy Point! I have enjoyed renovating this 100 year house and love being a part of the Highland Falls community.
