Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
Vintage Victorian style & luxurious modern amenities await at the Van Dusen House, in one of the oldest neighborhoods on the West Coast!

Rented to one party at a time, your group can experience Astoria like one of its founding families.

Built in the 1880s as a showpiece by the pioneer Van Dusen Family and sold in the 1940s, by 2021 the property had been neglected & went into foreclosure. That's when the current generation of the Van Dusens bought it back & restored it to its original grandeur!

The space
UPSTAIRS:
- 4 guest suites
— 3 California King rooms
— 1 Small Double room (48”x75”).
- Each has en-suite full bathroom
- Luxurious white linens and towels, bleached between each group, as part of our deep cleaning procedures.

MAIN FLOOR:
- Ample entertaining space
— Sitting parlor w/views
— Formal living room w/decorative fire place
— Formal dining room
- Powder room
- Open concept kitchen w/another family room
- Small bedroom w/twin bed & trundle + direct access to the backyard & parking lot (This room may be a good option for anyone with mobility issues, as it requires the fewest stairs to access.)

OUTSIDE:
- Lawn and mature trees
- Large gazebo with fire table
- Concrete pad with dining table & barbecue

Guest access
You will have exclusive access to the house and yard during your stay. There is a separate apartment in the basement that has its own entrance.

Ask about our pool table in the garage!

High chair and pack-n-play available. Please let us know if you need them.

Queen aerobed available upon request.

Other things to note
NOTE: Bedroom 2 has a bathtub with a hand sprayer, but no shower.

Bedroom 4 with the “Small Double” has an unusual shower set up that opens directly into the room, which is due to the fact the shower was added in a former closet space. That also explains why the armoire is in a little nook around the corner from the bed. And finally, while the standard term for a 48”x75” bed is “Small Double,” to me it feels more like a slightly wider twin!

Interested in hosting a wedding or other event? We have an exclusive team of party planners, florists, caterers, bartenders, bakers, etc, who have been vetted to our high standards.

Need more space? Check out our sister property - The Rosebriar Mansion - just 3 blocks down the street.

Please note: The couple who manages the property for us lives in a separate apartment in the basement. Rest assured, there are no shared spaces inside the house, and the yard will be for your exclusive use as well.

Meet your hosts

Where I went to school: Stanford University
My work: Van Dusen Beverages, Inc. - Oregon's Oldest Business, Est. 1849
I am a proud member of the Van Dusen Family in Astoria, Oregon! My great-great-great grandparents, Adam & Caroline Van Dusen, arrived here in 1848, when there were just two frame houses in town. In fact, Caroline's diary tells a story about how Chief Walluski, of the local Chinook Native-American tribe, rescued Adam & Caroline’s new family from a dark, cold winter that same year. You could say that I am only here today thanks to that sense of community and caring that Chief Walkuski demonstrated to newcomers to this area. As a 6th generation Astorian, it’s my turn to welcome visitors like you to this special place. I might be biased, but I'm convinced there's nowhere on earth more beautiful and community-minded than Clatsop County. So please, make my day by asking questions and getting sightseeing recommendations. There's nothing I love more!
