THE KNOTTY OAK - JFK HOUSE

Sleeps 11 | Extra beds available

Welcome to The Knotty Oak - JFK House, a lovingly restored five-bedroom home packed with character, history, and wonderfully quirky touches.

The location is so sweet! The JFK House is off of Highway 128 in downtown Philo, close to Scharffenberger, Baxter, Witching Stick, Weatherborne and Boonville Road tasting rooms, Lemon's Market as well as Jumbo's Restaurant, which is on the LA Times TOP 100 list. You could literally spend a whole day and not get in the car. There is ample parking inside the property and trails and views and amazing sunsets.

We call it The JFK House because we have installed our famous and unique JFK collection. Decades in the making there are pictures (some velvet!), busts, plates, books and tons of other whimsical and rare historic items and unexpected surprises. It’s quirky, memorable, and definitely not your average vacation rental. The JFK House has almost 500,000 views online and thousands of shares. One of our guests made it a viral sensation, come see why. :)

The JFK House sleeps 11 with one king, three queens, a double bed, and a child’s bed. We can also add one or two twin beds for $80/night per bed, including setup, linens, and cleaning.

Bedroom 1 (Master) has a King bed.

Bedrooms 2 has a Queen and child bed (sleeps 3)

Bedrooms 3 and 4 have Queen beds.

Bedroom 5 looks like a bank vault, made from theater-set panels we scored—kids and grownups absolutely love it. There’s also a giant antique school chalkboard, vintage math charts, mid-century furniture, antiques, and a fun double-sided couch.

There are three full bathrooms (one en suite to the master bedroom), two with bathtubs, all with large showers and heated floors. We provide Malin + Goetz bath products and makeup-remover towels. Bedrooms have adorable Eddie Bauer camp-themed sheets, soft and firm pillows, comforters, extra blankets, and cozy lighting. There’s robust central AC/heat, strong WiFi, and a 50" TV.

The huge open kitchen and large island are a cook's dream with:
Frigidaire brand new range-tons of BTU's
Cuisinart cookware
GE Fridge
Countertop wine fridge
Cuisinart Toaster
Waffle iron (with waffle mix and real maple syrup!)
Bosch Microwave
Bosch Professional Line dishwasher
Cuisinart coffee machine
Starbucks coffee packets
Bodum electric kettle with an assortment of teas.

Outside, you may find deer wandering through the yard. There’s a BBQ and an enamel drink cooler for keeping drinks cold while enjoying the outdoors.

Best of all, guests have private access to Indian Creek, a beautiful shady spot where kids and adults can explore, look for crawdads and fish, or simply enjoy nature.

The JFK House is one of three homes at The Knotty Oak, with 12 bedrooms total, plus glamping tents, meadows, a redwood amphitheater, and lots of event space. The other homes are available separately, or all three can be booked together directly with us for weddings, retreats, offsites, and larger groups.

In addition to The JFK House, we also have The Homestead, a 4 bedroom house, and the Sugar Pine Cabin, a 2 bedroom, so there's lots of space for larger groups and events.

We provide a welcome bottle of wine, refreshments, and snacks. A 110V EV charger is available upon request.

Most dogs are welcome with prior approval for $125 per pet.

There is normally a two-night minimum, but we can sometimes accommodate one-night stays. Early check-in and late checkout are often possible when our schedule allows—just ask! We go out of our way to give guests a great time and are happy to make recommendations on things to do and places to go.

We’ve put a lot of love into restoring the JFK House, and we hope you love staying here as much as we do. Thank you for looking. If you have any questions, please reach out. We are always here to help you!

Hello from beautiful Philo! Nearly all the materials used to restore the three homes at TKO are from reuse and salvage, but there are many modern comfort touches for a cozy stay. We hope you enjoy this quirky and unique mix of old and new. Thx!
