The space
Welcome to The Lost Loggerhead- this beach house retreat is perfect for a family vacation, a beach trip with your friends or just an escape to the beautiful beaches of OBX. This house is less than 166 yards from the beach, not too far from the Avon fishing pier, conveniently located close to shopping and the grocery store (1/2 mile). The island is about escaping from the traffic and crowds of Nags Head, Kitty Hawk and Corolla. No massive chain stores and big Boxes stores, Car Dealers and non-sense. Avon nesseled in the center of Hatteras Island is a true Beach Town.
Avon is one of the most beloved villages on Hatteras Island — less crowded than the northern beaches but full of charm, natural beauty, and adventure. Spend your days beachcombing, surf fishing, paddleboarding, or exploring the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. End the day with fresh seafood and breathtaking sunsets over the Pamlico Sound.
Located in the middle of Hatteras Island as such you can get to the ferry for a day on Ocracoke Island. Take the bikes and ride into Hatteras Village or to the Light House. Walk a little south on the beach into the National Park where you can only get there with a 4x4 and truly escape people. Go to the north side of Avon under 3 miles and rent a boat or Jet Ski for the sound. Fish for puppy Drum and Flounder. There are several boutique stores with custom products and such from locals here on the island.

Things to keep in mind
1. Hurricanes are a possibility. Please understand that we may not be able to refund your stay as a result of a mandatory evacuation. However, we will work with you to book mid-season complimentary days to match the days you miss in the event of an evacuation. If you book with an American Express card, they may cover the cost of your trip should a Hurricane evacuation become necessary.
2. The Lost Loggerhead stands tall in Avon- This home is one of the tallest built prior to the Height cap. Please keep in mind it does require climbing steps. Home is 4 stories and is one of the tallest in the area- we can see the Hatteras Lighthouse from the 4th floors. **because of the height of the home you may also feel it sway or move- this is normal- home had to be built to shift with the wind**
3. OBX is the perfect place to work and play. The Lost Loggerhead does provide Wifi suitable for remote work plus a printer and additional screen for those Type A's that just have to do some work.
Guest access
Guest has access to the full property and house. There is private parking on the property. A beautiful deck that looks out to the ocean and sound. New lower Deck and a New Fire Pit area for Smores and ghost stories. Open living space and a crow's nest (loft area) with views of the ocean and the sound. Less then a mile to the 4x4 beach access, grocery store and local restuarants. Guest also have Beach Access from the property via crosswalk.
Other things to note
We offer over $1,100 in extras- linens/towels and the following amenities: beach chairs, boogie boards, beach blanket, 3- Surf Boards, beach towels, 4-Bikes, beach umbrella, 2-Standup Paddle Boards, Skim Board, Skim Shot, Beach Cart, Gas and Charcoal Grills an Xbox and much more. We also loaded the kitchen with over 20 spices and provide Oil and Vinger. We even provide shampoo, conditioner and body wash, washer and dryer available. Our goal is to make your trip easy. When you arrive, there is Coffee or Tea for the first morning. There is already some paper towels available and toilet paper in the bathrooms. So, while you might want to get some groceries you are not spending $100 or more dollars is helping us stock the house for the next guest. We live in the home 3 to 4 mos of the year, so we get that it is a pain to arrive and have to try to find something basic- when all you want to do is relax.
