During your stay
Your hosts are Thad and Liam, and we have two Basenjis (the barkless dog breed) - dog friendly guest are appreciated. We tend to keep the dogs in the kitchen area and in the fenced in back patio area. We are unable to host guests traveling with pets as Basenji’s are very territorial, especially to dogs and cats. They keep their back yard as a squirrel free zone.

We try to be available through text, calls or email.

Liam is available at the house most of the time considering at home the household kitchen is a science lab, cheese maker, Kombucha, Tea grower, Herbs and garden consumables, fermented foods, Baker and all around major food curiosity and the science of cooking.
He has a working Potter's studio at the rear of the property.
He is a NC licensed massage therapist; with in-house massage studio space on the first floor. Massage packages are available, inquire about a massage before you head up to bed.

Thad works full-time for ECU’ School of Theatre and Dance and spends a lot of free time involved in local community theatre groups.

Thad is generally unavailable during the day, Will is mostly at the house doing something.

Other things to note
We have two Basenjis they are very cat like and quiet; they are considered the standard for dog allergies - if you are allergic to a Basenji then you are allergic to all dogs. They come from an ancient breed of dogs used by Africans as hunting dogs. It is believed by some historians that the ancient Basenjs may have been the model for the Sphinx.
For many centuries the local Africans have bred their dogs to be attentive hunters, bark-less they are masters of stealth. In order to locate their dogs the hunters use bells on the dogs.

Our dogs live mainly in the kitchen much like cats, they find the sun and sleep curled up, there is a besenji deck in the back yard. Because Basenjis are curious, fast and quiet we use security gates in the kitchen thus we apologize but the kitchen is not one of the shared spaces.

We ask that you enter and exit through the front door to limit the chances of a dog escaping out the back gate and into the road. You may interact with the dogs in the back yard. Basenji’s are sight hounds and are friendly the room manual has more detail about our dogs. They are hunters and the male will treat you as a stranger until he gets a chance to smell you. They do not lick but want to smell your breath (I don't know why but that's what they do).

The massage studio is located on the first floor and clients are by appointment only - with a separate entrance into the house. This is intended to limit any extra foot traffic in the house while you stay with us. Please do not Knock or enter the studio with out an arranged appointment.

Feel free to check out the potters studio there is a display case with some of the most recent pieces that are preglazed and finished. Thad is responsible for the selling of the pottery.

Neighborhood highlights

The house is located in the Historic Downtown Business District of Washington. The sheriff’s station, fire department, and a church are in the general neighborhood. The other buildings are occupied mainly by daytime run businesses, i.e. lawyers and doctors.

Market Street is a thoroughfare that links the Historic Downtown to 15th Street/Carolina Avenue (the more commercial side of town); fast food and sit-down restaurants can be found in both areas as well as other markets and businesses.

Like most small towns, traffic quiets down after the work day has ended.
