Immerse into nature when you stay in this unique Studio Loft. Look out onto the ocean, hear the waves crash in the distance. Listen to the river sound, birds, crickets, monkeys.

This place is for you if you are looking for an exclusive remote jungle experience without neighbors, want to disconnect on a 10 acre finca, don't mind climbing steps, and appreciate the amenities of a well designed house.

The space
The property has beautiful ocean and jungle views, and is bordered by a river. When surf and tide are right you can see the white water breaks at Playa Los Cedros. Depending on the season you might also spot whales.

The Studio Loft has a queen size bed and a stunning outdoor bathroom with ocean and jungle views. Full height operable windows with retractable mosquito screens allow you to capture the breezes from the river valley - you won’t miss AC, instead you will actually be glad to have a blanket at night.

Our finca is a space where you can disconnect, and immerse into nature - comfortably from a well-designed biophilic space. Both the Studio Loft and the Baños Hub were designed by the owner, with attention to details. The architecture of the Studio Loft follows key passive cooling strategies like cross ventilation and a floating high albedo roof providing shade. The large operable mosquito screens make your stay more comfortable, and keep out most unwanted guests - please keep them closed for your own protection, and in consideration to guests staying at the studio loft after you.

The small kitchen has all the basic tools to prepare easy meals, coffee and tea are available for guests.

Note that you need to climb a path with steep stairs to get from your car to the Studio Loft (see photos).

In addition to the Studio Loft, guests have access to the Baños Hub (see photos), which is a beautifully located little outdoor structure housing a large table and a second bathroom (shower room, toilet room, sink room), overlooking the property. Another perfect ocean view hangout.

Guest access
Permaculture is a key driver on our finca - since we took over the land in 2017 we planted over 900 trees of 116 different species, over 250 pollinator-attracting shrubs, and over 3,000 erosion control plants. We harvest rain water (you will enjoy seeing the water shoot from the scupper into the pluvial if you are lucky to be there during a rain shower), and re-use grey water for irrigation of our vivero.

Guests are very welcome to explore nature by walking the exterior paths on the property, which are a beautiful way to experience the jungle, but do so at their own risk.

Other things to note
While the finca is connected to the electrical grid, power outages are not uncommon, mostly caused by fallen trees / branches, and - sadly - monkeys being electrocuted while walking the power lines. Usually power is restored within a few hours.

High speed internet is provided by Starlink, extreme weather conditions might trigger temporary outages.

The water at both kitchen and outdoor sink of the studio loft is safe to drink (well water with carbon filter system).

Where you’ll be

Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica

The finca is nestled in the jungle, bordering a river, approximately 1km from the Pacific Ocean. With the exception of the caretaker and his family there are no immediate neighbors. Once you pass the gate next to their house, the driveway leads you up a small hill. You will reach a long crest from where the property slopes to all sides, giving away stunning views to the ocean and the river valley, to sunrise and sunset.

I am a german architect based in NYC and Costa Rica. In 2017 my wife (and co-host) Adri and I bought a 10 acre land overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Costa Rica. We designed and built several small biophilic structures, including the ocean view cabin. Adri is a certified Permaculturist, we strongly believe that permaculture and architecture need to evolve in parallel during the design process. We look forward to hosting you.
