CLEANING AND SAFETY:
====================

** Pet and Smoke-Free House Cleaned and Usually Vacant Between Guests**

We do very few same-day changeovers so the cabin is usually vacant at least an entire day before and after visitors.

Due to our family’s health conditions, we do not allow pets or smoking and have only a few carpets on our hardwood floors so you can expect to breathe easy here. This is a rare find in this area as most places allow pets. If you have allergies, this is your spot.

LOCATION
==========

Only one hour northeast of Seattle lies a spectacular riverside town called Index. Our soaring mountain views, lush rainforests, giant granite cliffs, and a crystal clear mountain river will inspire you with awe and wonder. But don’t take our word for it - read our reviews.

If your body is craving some rest and relaxation, you'll be pampered by the Simmons World Class Beautyrest mattresses adorned with 680 thread count Egyptian cotton linens. It also has a large closet, Marshall bluetooth speaker, and ceiling fan for your convenience and comfort.

The second bedroom on the other side of the house has a full-size bed on the bottom of a bunk bed and a twin on the top. Both are outfitted with soft cotton linens and memory foam mattresses. The room also has a large closet, dresser, Bose radio, and plenty of space for your adventuring gear.

If you can muster the energy to leave the living room, you’ll cross right by the centrally located gas fireplace with windows on all sides. What’s a cabin without a romantic and comforting fire?

Across from the fireplace is the dedicated workspace equipped with a 21" iMac desktop and printer along with a comfy blue velvet chair.

Margaritas anyone?

THE YARD
===========
We’re at the west end of our tiny 150-person town on a giant 5-lot property that you’ll have all to yourself. We have off-street parking alongside the house.

Outside we have a covered front porch where you can spot bald eagles or watch the train cross the river while sipping your favorite beverage from four Adirondack deck chairs.

There is also a covered gazebo steps from the house where the hot tub is located.

Just off the back porch are 5 bicycles and a box of helmets and toys. This is also where we keep the cornhole game.

In the middle of the back lawn is a fire pit patio featuring a Brio X-series smokeless firepit with a stainless rim capable of grilling your favorite meat or toasting graham crackers. It’s the perfect place for stargazing, smores, and campfire singing (we even supply the guitar).

And of course, we have a hammock between two trees providing your midday snooze.

Skiing and snowboarding are only 29 miles away at Stevens Pass. They also offer mountain biking in the summer.

Local activities include swimming, fishing, white water rafting, and kayaking on the Skykomish River that drifts right through the center of town. There is also world-renown rock climbing on the Index Town Wall.

But most people flock to the area for the amazing amount of hikes for all skill levels within mere minutes. Some of the favorites include:

* Lake Serene and Bridal Veil Falls at the base of Mt. Index.
* Deception Falls.
* The Iron Goat Trail.
* Barclay Lake.
* Heybrook Lookout Firetower.
* Wallace Falls.
* Heybrook Ridge.

(One of the newest parks in the County is Heybrook Ridge just across the bridge with the trailhead about a 4-minute warm-up walk away. It’s a must-do 1.7-mile hike through 2nd growth rainforest offering a spectacular view of Mt. Index, Mt. Persis, and the entire Skykomish valley as your reward. There's even a cool geocache at the top if you're not a muggle.)

Get the top-rated "All Trails" app and you'll have all the details on the local hikes.

Mentioned above, Stevens Pass awaits only 29 miles uphill and offers excellent downhill and cross-country skiing and snowboarding in the winter, and mountain biking in the summer.

Just beyond Stevens Pass is the quaint German village of Leavenworth - an excellent day trip option about 75 miles away. Grab a bratwurst at Gustav's and stroll downtown. Shop the local fruit stands for orchard fresh apples.

If you prefer your adventures to be more low-key, there are a variety of nice long walks with stunning scenery just out the front door.

The Crescent Trail

Whitewater Rafting outfitters located 4 blocks up river was voted "Best of Western Washington" and also serves coffee and craft beer.

A mile outside of town right on Highway 2 you can try the new Mt. Index Brewery and Distillery.

Index came to exist from the timber and granite harvested from the area. Those commodities were shipped to Seattle by train and those tracks remain active today - providing a daily reminder of the formation of the town. The route stretches all the way to Chicago and is called the Emipre Builder route by Amtrak.

For light sleepers, we provide a new set of earplugs on the nightstand. Our new double pane windows have mitigated the noise considerably. Most people find the train romantic and nostalgic - and a tiny percentage find it annoying (actually, we've had zero complaints since upgrading our windows in 2021). If you hate trains, the Skykomish Valley might not be the ideal vacation spot for you as it's hard to get away from.

Neighborhood highlights

The town of Index has only 150 residents, a general store, a museum, a playground and park, a public beach on the river, a white water outfitter, a coffee shop and not much more. One of the smallest towns in western Washington, Index has a ton of charm and extremely nice people.

The Bush House Inn is a historic restoration project that has just reopened. It's right next to the railroad tracks that run through the center of town and has a restaurant called North Fork Kitchen that's a great options if you don't feel like cooking.

Our house is located at the end of town on a large 5-lot corner parcel across the street from the river. It has a large lawn area and covered gazebo housing the barbecue and bikes.

The area is one of astounding beauty. Our home sits adjacent to the Skykomish River with views of Mt. Index, Mt. Persis, and Gunn Peak as well as a full view of Heybrook Ridge - the latest county park saved from logging by a grass roots effort now boasting amazing trails, tranquility and beauty. There are several beautiful hikes and walks right from the front door.

If you're lucky enough to visit during the summer, you won't find a better swimming hole than the one in front of the house. Walk up to the rapids, dive in, float down, repeat.

Winter guests are often booked to ski Stevens Pass - one of the best in Washington.

Come to relax, breath deep from the woods, and restore body and mind.

My work: We work on the Internet
Hi there! We are Molly and Ken. We love to travel and are currently on a 9-month sabbatical with our two kids (wish us luck!). While we're gone we're renting out our homes exclusively on Airbnb where we have been Superhosts for many years. Below is some information on our two homes: A Riverside Retreat - Our Vacation Rental in Index, WA ================ Having backpacked around the world, we think Index is one of the most special places on the planet. (We also fell in love with Italy, Croatia, Thailand, and we're often found in the Mexican Riviera). We have family in Index and when this property came available we had to own it since it has the best view in town. Unfortunately, we can't live in Index full time so we are renting it out to guests like you! Knowing what travelers need, we have tried to equip our home with everything you would expect for an excellent retreat (like a washer and dryer! hello!). Hopefully, you will agree that we hit the mark. We know that it's a lot of little things that make the difference and we have left out some details as a surprise for your arrival. Be sure to ask us for recommendations on local hikes, fishing guides, river rafting, massage therapists - whatever you need. If you don't have the chance to stay with us due to a full calendar, be sure to contact us anyway as we have good referral options for you - including our mom's bed and breakfast if you only need a single night! The Seacliff House - Shell Beach, CA =============== Because of our Internet-based jobs we could live anywhere in the world, and we chose the Central Coast of California. There's just something about the light, the smell of the ocean and the Mediterranean climate that has captivated us. Everything here is easy, and coming from rainy Seattle we love the sunshine. We bought a 1960 ranch style home on a palm tree-lined street 6 houses from the Ocean and completely remodeled it to make it our own. We have added landscaping and outdoor rooms to make it our dream home, and we think visitors will be very comfortable. Our decor is decidedly but subtly beach home, but on the modern side with premium upgrades throughout including bedding. We're obsessed with having great beds. Technically Pismo Beach, Shell Beach is a coveted area and our central location will be appreciated by those coming to visit. We're about 9 miles from San Luis Obispo, there are 20 wineries within 20 miles, hiking out our doorstep, world-class bicycling (just rated top 10 in the country), and 300 yards from the Ocean in one direction and 500 yards from Sushi in the other. Our home will sleep up to 8 guests and help you delight in all the Central Coast has to offer.
